Dandelion

There are those who view the dandelion as a lowly weed, a nuisance, defiling manicured lawns. Then there are those who remember what dandelions meant in childhood: their sunny, bitter-green blooms a familiar sight on ever-warming May days, their funny jagged leaves, and once fruited, something playful and fluffy for which to make wishes. The dandelion is a staple of youth from all temperate regions of the world. There are 'dandelion children,' resilient like the flower, impervious to their environment. I was a 'dandelion child.' I wasn't afraid to get dirty, was always turning over rocks to find whatever creatures sought refuge underneath. Picking up pillbugs, earwigs, worms, and salamanders, I was always fascinating with other living things. And then the plants—the milkweeds that grew on the perimeter of our yard, the wood sorrels that I read in a book were edible and sneak in as a snack now and then (thankfully never so much as to be sickened by the oxalic acid!). And then there were the dandelions, which I also learned were edible, but I hadn't quite acquired a taste for the bitter. The smell of the flowers and the curiously hollow stems have been imprinted, and Perfumer H Dandelion is as close to it as anything I've smelled from the fragrance universe. Lyn Harris incorporated basil, galbanum, and vetiver here, and while each are legible to me, the result of their congress here, among bright citruses and florals, animates the sensation of a dandelion pressed pressed to my nose. Also, the sticky sap from the snapped stems is here. There is also an underlying sweetness and tartness that adds to the overall sensation of sunny meadows and carefree rough-and-tumble joy. When its radiance wanes, like a holograph that fades, it feels just as much to me as an ode to childhood as an ode to our dear little plucky yellow flowers. Reminiscing about childhood as one pushes 50 is as bittersweet as the flower itself. The heart can ache over a long ago that felt more pure, less encumbered; but that spirit, whether summoned through keeping play in one's life well into old age, or through a transportive perfume, is what keeps us young at heart. I absolutely adore this fragrance! Truly unisex imo, and smells like you've been frolicking in the grass. Also a very nostalgic smell, conjuring childhood memories of playing hide-and-seek in the back yard on a summer evening. Absolutely gorgeous if you want to smell like some kind of androgynous Persephone. My only complaint is the poor performance - only seems to last a couple hours before I need to re-apply, and has pretty poor sillage to begin with. At this price point I would expect much more. (I'll be buying a 100ml bottle anyways because I can't get enough of this scent!) Edit: I ended up buying a 50ml bottle and the performance is much better than my sample! Projection and longevity are both better and brought up to par with the other Perfumer H fragrances I've tried!

The nostalgic scent of snapped dandelion stalks. A tomato leaf and basil opening of naturalistic salad drawer greenery. Reminiscent of the old Miller Harris La Feuille but very much improved, more lemony and light. Mandarin and airy, creamy woods with earthy support making Dandelion dreamy, soft and summery.

grassy, green, sharp. a perfect sniff of spring (minus the seasonal allergies). that scene in “midsommar” where they dance and dani realizes she speaks swedish. a soccer field with weeds for my younger self to make wishes on and do cartwheels.

So incredibly dreamy & nostalgic -- 'photorealistic' snapped dandelion scent, with a musky warm-green drydown. Perfect.

The first strong muaky scent I love. This is more masculine with the dry down. It smells like a stem of a dandelion, maybe a little less cesar would be better. In overall, I love this. Shoutout to the man in the Paris store who recommended it and gave a free sample:)

A strange perfume, and with a name like Dandelion I’m not entirely sure what to make of it. It opens with real force: bright yet sour, green yet floral all at once. The notes are prominent, but well blended, so it never feels messy, just unusual. Snapped stems scent made by basil, galbanum, mandarin and lemons give it a slightly sharp, herbal citrus bite, while the vetiver keeps it dry and earthy. The floral side is a bit harder to detect for me. Maybe a very slight hint of orange blossom, sandalwood and musk. There is also a plum note in the background, but not a soft, ripe or jammy one. It reads more like a sharp, salted sour plum, almost in the direction of Japanese umeboshi which gives the fragrance an even stranger edge. So, this is a very odd mix to me: green, citrus sour, floral, herbal and faintly fruity. Not easy, not obvious, but definitely memorable. Not sure I would wear it though ...

Green, aromatic, fresh, unisex. Almost bracing in its greenness. A very crisp opening with green plants and citrus. Didn't get basil specifically. But I do get the orange blossom, orange, lemon, and maybe a touch of vetiver on my skin. No spices yet. I wish it was more tomato leaf, truly basil, or something specific instead of a general green/plant vibe. It is evocative of dandelion but not the same as picking one in the yard. It softens after a few hours and becomes much less green. The sandalwood and musk come through then with a touch of sweetness which might be the plum. To be honest, I think I would have preferred a more linear composition. Faded away completely by midday. 6/10

Another vetiver perfume from Perfumer H that smells similar to Rhubarb (green, astringent, herbal vetiver) and many of the others in the line - I think it's very fitting with the story being told although redundant.

Surprisingly it really did smell like dandelion butter! Was pleasant but too heavy as a summery scent, personally

Very green (similar note to Demeter's Tomato, that spicy tomato-plant leaf smell) and a little dandelion-flower-y, but mostly rather synthetic and harsh.

Delightful Dandelion by Perfumer H. Uplifting, fresh, green, citric. Sits close to the skin, but I don't mind because this feels like such a personal and nostalgic scent. It has just the right amount of tart fruitiness to balance with the sharpness of the aromatic notes. Can't wait to wear this all spring & summer; it's a wonderful fragrance. Feels like: leaving the cold shade of a forest and stumbling into a sunlit field on the first day of spring. The closest comparison I can think of is Malin + Goetz's Bergamot, which shares a lot of qualities with the vegetal green citrus aspects of Dandelion.

I can't believe how accurate this perfume is. If you'd ask me to describe the smell of a dandelion I would have been lost, but this immediately transports you back to being a child, playing in the fields and taking in the aromatic and bitter scent of grass, weeds, and dandelions. One of the most vivid and original scents I've encountered in a while.

Starting with a most exquisite graceful bitterness then merging into realistic sweet lovely Dandelion, if you have ever pressed your nose into the soft yellow flower, you will know. How uplifting! Feeling all beautiful wearing this perfume! Lyn Harris performs miracles. With her nose. Love it!

My first impression is bright, grassy, floral. Verging to a bit sour. Watercolour. Light. Fresh. Yellow and green. I think it’s very elegant. A beautiful interpretation of dandelion, without doubt. However, it’s a very specific kind of scent, it will not be for everyone.

Wow super nostalgic dandelion stem snapped. I feel like a kid again staring up at the clouds in wonder. Gazing at at the tops of 70ft pine trees wishing I could fly. I love this house.
