Ink

I only have a sample bottle of this one but I did buy Frankincense (which isn’t listed in the database here) but the two are quite similar. Lyn Harris seems fond of notes like Angelica, Elemi, Papyrus and Galbanum and Ink definitely has her recognizable signature of dusty, woody yet watery naturalness with a soft verdant tang. Hard to put that sort of style in words. I believe she uses alot of naturals from Robertet as was the case with Miller Harris. If they say Byredo is for young people who don’t like things to smell like perfume, than Perfumer H is for a more quality-discerning, perhaps slightly older version of this person who doesn’t like to draw attention to themselves and is sensitive to quiet beauty. PS: Everything I purchased there a year and a half ago has gotten better with age, deeper, richer and smoother. 3 out of 5.

I just bought a full size bottle after 3 years of trying it out in my favorite vintage shop that carries Perfumer H. I'm not sure why I waited so long, maybe the price point, but now it's an everyday signature. There's something extremely interesting going on here for me.... I remember on first whiff feeling like I had plunged down into deep, dark, cool water, where everything goes quiet. I can see why it's called ink (there's certainly papery and inky qualities to it) but to me, it feels aligned to the spirit of ink itself. Dark, opaque, permanent, infinite. It's odd, too—everyone who smells it on me says something different about it. Some say it smells spicy, some say it smells like the ocean. Whatever it is, I am into it for any season, any time of day... it's the kind of neutral aroma that just smells like intelligence.

this is very pretty, melancholic and singular. i think it’s one of Lyn Harris’ best creation (and you can really feel it’s from her). very dry vetyver and dusty cedar fragrance with hints of pepper, not an ounce of sweetness. the texture is reminiscent of ink on paper all the way through. after it settles on skin, it has an outdoorsy feel as well. it smells natural and introspective and has the volatility of the scent of the woods: it comes and goes, you have to focus on specific elements to catch it, it’s complex and floating. it’s always there but never overwhelming. signature scent worthy, can work anytime time of the day/year. it’s mysterious, unique and wearable, and reading or writing wearing this is such a beautiful experience. sillage is poor (and that’s on purpose) but longetivity is quite good.

Calling all librarians! Ink opens with dry, woody, musky notes of well-loved antique furniture, old paper and pencil shavings, blended seamlessly with a subdued, watery metallic note, let's call it ink, though I think it's a really clever use of ambroxan. Cedar and rooty vetiver dominate with papyrus and angelica, but the note list should probably be set aside as Ink is really experienced as a single accord, a photo-realist summoning of old libraries, polished book stacks, scholarly exertions. A beautiful daytime scent for the studious, or just for personal pleasure. Very unperfumey. I have a bottle and love wearing it, enjoying catching it from time to time.

Absolutely artful hipster fragrance in the same realm as Patchouli 24 by Le Labo, I don't know what by DS & Durga, and Paper by Commodity. Saying that, this is sublimely crafted. It's woody, cool, creamy and spicy. Unlike Patchouli 24, which it has the most in common with to my nose, there is no sweetness to be found. I can identify the patchouli, the elemi, pepper, cedar and ambroxan. Like those modern, dry fragrances, it wears close after a loud opening, and is completely gender-inclusive. A simultaneously cerebral and sexy, creamy and dark fragrance. Probably the best of the house.

Sometimes, a scent can send me on a journey to a place I've been a long time ago or imagined in my dreams. Ink is one such perfume. When I smell it, I am instantly transported to an old library by the sea, perhaps somewhere in Japan. It’s quiet and peaceful there, and the wooden stairs and pillars of the library are worn smooth. The shelves are lined with old leather-backed books. Soft rain falls outside, and the library windows are open, allowing the scent of the nearby sea and the sound of waves to drift in. This perfume is a masterpiece and a work of art. 5/5

love at first sniff... the second I smelled it I knew it would become my signature... delicate cool woods notes with gentle herbals and a gentle warming spice underneath... it doesn't look like anything special on paper but it smells so unique and comforting! extremely elegant and refined and unisex performance isn't fantasic but not poor either! this is for reading a book on the sofa by the fireplace; a scent for yourself not for others!

Purchased the Ink re-written by Nigel slater. Fantastic scent, wonerfully put together, won't be mainstream popular, nothing sweet or mass appealing about it. Smells somewhere around ink on paper, library and old church stools / pews. I love just to have this on at home smells some comforting and honest.

Absolutely incredible. I've never smelled anything better. It's simultaneously fresh like a downpour of rain on the opening, then spicy, then dries down to the most wonderful thing I've ever smelled. I gave a hug and my friend wouldn't let me go, in order to keep smelling this.

I got a sample of this. Delicious, wet woody scent. There's a deep sharpness to it that does give me ink, but reminds me most of all of paper and woods. Smells like damp coldness on a hot day, like finding solace in the shade of big trees or perhaps a church.

First Impression. It really does smell like ink on paper, but in a good and wearable way. This and rain wood (realistic petracor) are literal interpretations, and very creative artwork.

A perfect love triangle between vetiver, resinous woody notes and church incense. Dry, green and mineral on my skin. Contemplative. Gorgeous. But no ink.....

this is incredible, inky, dark, gothic, but very wearable and calming. it does remind me of encre noire but evolves muskier and less harsh

What rises first in Ink is not ink itself but the cultural image of ink: a dry gray atmosphere composed from vetiver, cypriol, and traces of isobutyl quinoline. The materials overlap without sharp assertion. Vetiver supplies a mineral dryness; cypriol bends smoke toward paper and dust rather than fire; isobutyl quinoline contributes bitterness without ever fully becoming leather. The effect is less "liquid ink" than the quiet air of a study already arranged around the idea of writing. The structure reveals Perfumer H's characteristic restraint. Where Germaine Cellier deployed isobutyl quinoline at the then-extreme concentration of roughly 1% in Bandit (1944), pushing it toward violent rupture, Ink withdraws it into the margins. Even the smokiness remains controlled. Within thirty minutes the composition settles into a soft gray vetiver haze whose development is elegant but highly stabilized. No accord dominates strongly enough to reorganize the fragrance around itself. This restraint is inseparable from Perfumer H's broader aesthetic: Lyn Harris's muted compositions, Michael Ruh's hand-blown bottles, the spacious boutiques, the rhetoric of artisanal quietude. Yet beneath this atmosphere lies the industrial infrastructure of contemporary niche perfumery—embodied here in an ongoing supply relationship with Robertet, the Grasse natural-materials house founded in 1850. The point is not that Perfumer H is inauthentic. Rather, the brand stages artisanal intimacy atop openly industrial foundations, transforming "craft" itself into an aesthetic surface. Placed beside predecessors, Ink clarifies its position. It inherits isobutyl quinoline from Bandit, the vetiver axis from Encre Noire, and dry smoke from Patchouli 24, but neutralizes the risk each of those works embraced. The result is coherent, tasteful, and technically refined, yet structurally cautious. Its materials never exceed the concept they are assigned to express. This is why Ink often resembles a mood board more than an olfactory discovery. The fragrance does not fail; it fulfills its brief precisely. But the "quiet intellect" it depicts remains carefully precomposed from the beginning. The ink is already dry before the pen reaches the page. 6.5/10

Interesting. Classic, clean and fresh. Papyrus and Angelica shine next to the cedar. The vetiver is prominent.

A light, dry and smoky Vetiver. Personally I like my Vetivers moist, grassy, rubbery and bold. “Ink” does not work for me. Reading about the notes I was expecting something more daring. ..minutes later I have left on my skin only some very dry wood, burned woods, ashes.. Sycomore by Chanel and Encre Noir come to mind indeed although these fragrances are much bigger. The project more. Ink becomes quickly a skin scent for me.

i prefer akro's ink to this. this is inspired by the ink in books and the library of scents that surround it. this is harsher. dark woody resinous. antique, old. suggestive of incense. dry. akro's ink refers to tattoos and although less consistent, it is cool, young and appealing. sometimes i get oaky wine cellar thats warm and inviting. other times it's cool and alcoholic like a metal table in surgery. still it draws me back in like its addictive marketing imagery.

Ink where? This is just a green and spicy fragrance for a guy. Not fussed about it though

Review for the Ink Rewritten version. It is an amazing scent. It is nonlinear. Starts out cold. The cold you smell when you first go outside on a cold night. It mellows into a more masc vetiver. The into a really nice comfortable skin scent. I like all of the stops on this journey. Very glad I took the plunge on a blind buy. I can’t wait to explore more of their offering.
