Saffron

Testing a sample of Saffron by Lyn Harris. In the first minute after application it had a vanilia note that was crossed with incense which I found compelling. The Perfumer H little sample bottles don't spritz so I dabbed the perfume on my wrists. As Saffron continued to dry it became slightly soapy and also smelled slightly of paraffin wax. Memory evoked: myself age 17 sitting on the bed of my goth friend R at the top of her grandparents' crumbling house talking about the bands we liked then. R and I wore a lot of Body Shop oils, she vanilla and patchouli in combination - whereas I wore a lot of strawberry or coconut and all of the Body Shop oils had an underlying soapy smell. As I keep smelling my wrists a slight pine scent comes through the vanilia then the incense note reappears. I like it -this is a secretive skin scent like sharing intimate confidences at the top of a crumbling house with your best friend.

I've liked or loved almost everything I've tried from Perfumer H. This one just doesn't suit my skin I guess. It's smoky, dry, bitter, green and a bit "off". Makes me a bit nauseated. Would be a good freshie if that smokiness didn't exist. Pass, I'll go back to Smoke, Rain Cloud and Salt!
