Samba

I couldn't resist it any longer: I didn't have any hope for this perfume when I ordered it, I was expecting it to be to old and gone of... But, I was wrong, and I'm so very happy about it, it went straight in to my top third shelf, and that is a great achievement in my large wardrobe, counting 192 at the moment. Samba smells ecaxtly how I remembered it from the early -80ths, oooh how much I loved it than, and it feels sooo goood to have it back, and a lot of gooood memories comes alonge with it :)) To me, it smells a lot of freesia, than the orange and so the neroli, not much, but it is there. I sprayed it on my arm yesterday, and it still sticks to my skin and on my clothes. It smells so good, that I proably will need another big back up bottle, 3.3oz/100ml, for use his summer :)) I think this perfume is very friendly, and it will fit everybody of any ages and gender :)) I give it a solid 12++/10 ;p PS: Samba kinda reminds me of Diors Forever and ever because of the Freesia-note, but, they are not quite in the same row, but proably cousins thoug, Samba smells more as some sugary sweet bonbons ;))

Rico Suave I used to wear this every single time I went to the teen dance club in our area (9th and 10th grade). I still have my old bottle (we're talking 1989-1991)! It has turned and now smells like pooch, as you can imagine, but I just love having the bottle around. When I get the chance to smell it, I start to think of Gerardo's "Rico Suave," Soul II Soul's "Back to Life," and DMob/Cathy Dennis' "C'mon and Get My Love!" Despite the questionable music, those were some seriously fun times! Thanks, Samba!

Oh this takes me back! It was my signature scent at the time so reminds me of clubbing and parties, summers at the beach, and unlike so many other perfumes that I connect to a particular boy, this one was worn far too often to limit it to anyone in particular. It's fruity and yet has a zing and a powdery, sweet dry down. It wasn't well known here in Australia, none of my friends wore it. It will always be my own sweet time machine to the hip hop heyday of the early nineties party scene.

Hi! This is my sons favour. Think also its smell werry well good! Last long on skin. Makes me smell often in his wardrobe.It is a wanted favour. Hard too get this days.Im hope it will remark this good Perfume.Its smell so good in my sons room after he spray his perfume. And the girls like this one too. The lily make it warm deep pleasant. I had this in my twenties,about when it came out . I remeber loving its freshness ,its fruityness and its lack of heavy perfume notes,its just .. happy and fresh and playful ! I do believe id like it just as much today,but maybe occationally, not everyday ,though it is quite girlish and not a very mature scent. But yes,a joybringer!

I have the original Samba. Very fruity but not like the floral fruity perfumes of today. This has more substance. Smells wonderful although it is 25+ years old! The orange really shines.

Think it wrong perfyme. It is incense also in. And the name ''Sexy'' ore ''Sexy Man'' and it is a man perfyme. A yellow hat.

This was my first real “grown up” bottle of perfume. My aunt bought it for me on my 14th birthday in 1990.

This starts out citrusy floral powdery but ultimately wind up EXTREMELY powdery, earthy SUPER okakmoss. You have to really enjoy oakmoss to enjoy this one. I would love to find something similar to Tribe, but this one doesn't give me Tribe. The very opening almost reminds me more of the sharp powdery original Exclamation. (The latest version of Exclamation is way more mild than the original). However, its only the very opening that subtly reminds me of it. As time goes on, the powdery earthyness & mossyness grows and grows and grows more strong and has an immense & dense presence. This also last a very long time and isn't easily washed away. I didn’t know they still made Samba! I used to bathe in this stuff in my 20’s! My girlfriends and I would douse ourselves in it in the car before we’d enter our favorite nightclub, Talk of the Town in Vallejo in the late 80’s. You could smell us coming a mile away. Takes me back to mini skirts, neon tiger print tops, big earrings, and bigger hair. I remember Samba as being very fruity. Makes me want to buy a bottle for old time’s sake. I bet one whiff would bring back some wild & crazy memories!

I also used this perfume as a teenager, it was a birthday gift from my brother, and I remember that he used to tease me about it when I wore it, telling me I smelled like a cucumber (I teased him right back, telling him that he had given me the perfume that made me smell like cucumber). I like this fragrance because its sweet and cheery, and I think it is definitely perfect for teenagers. Such a shame this is not available any more.

Testing today a vintage mini. I cannot say that I can detect any particular notes. This is an early slightly fruity toned perfume I would say. It has a sweetness to it common in many perfumes today. Not my particular style but not bad either. Big white floral lovers may well like this also. Drydown smells like drydown of Pleasures.

this perfume reminds me of backpacking through europe with my ex-boyfriend in 1990. it was so exciting, fun and romantic. to this day, certain songs and the smell of samba conjure up wonderful memories of pillow fights in the french alps and topless romps on the riviera! oooh la la!

I've got some fond memories of this original Samba fragrance, it was my first-ever perfume as a young teenager...the year was 1989 and I got it as a Christmas present from my mum. I can still remember its sweet and fruity smell which embodied the spirit of the 80's very well :)

This is fruity! It's an aldehydic floral with a blend of freesia, orange and oakmoss. It's a borderline chypre with a bit of woodiness and a sharpness to it. I am wearing the Esprit de Parfum.

This was the first perfume my mother bought for me when I was about 11 years old! I think it's appropriate for a teenager. It's a powdery fruity fragrance, yummy and sweet.

Flashbacks to a perfume I owned an loved. I remember only being able to use a little at a time because this scent was so overpowering. It was fun though!

It's definitely a strong perfume and not for everyone. I happen to like it plus I love the shape of all samba perfumes.

A nice party-like fragance. My sister has it and everytime she wears it it kind of gives me a "lets-go-party!" mood.

Well, isn't this a surprising chypre! I found just a dribble of vintage Samba tucked away, and forgotten. At first, I thought this was one big pass for me, but lo and behold, it bloomed into something very interesting and complex. Freesia stands unconvincingly at the top, like the floral notes have been inverted into a surreal, disproportionate element emphasizing more animalic notes than feathery floral. Freesia is not the only one that has been naughty. Neroli comes into the heart panting, braving the indolically sweaty sweetness. Only to be outdone in earthiness by conspicuous oakmoss. Levitating the forest floor with soured notes of earthy decay. Lily illuminates the batch, by exposing bright and peppery chords, while mandarin adds a tangy sweetness. It is provocative, as a whole, like we are witnessing a life cycle from birth to death - a worthy consideration, maybe even a purchase for some of you who enjoy the complexity of a perfume's duality. This has the feel of fragrances like Jungle and Cafe Cafe. Please hear me when I say, they are in the same family, not the same. As for myself: I fully enjoyed my experience with Samba's review. I like a challenge. Besides, this smells like so many things encountered when I was young. For me, this is scent carried a label, and defined "Alternative". So, although this will not be a future purchase, it is still dear to my heart.

The opening is kind of odd. My husband described it as "burnt candy" which isn't exactly what I picked up, but I got the burnt part. But it dries down a bit better. It's definitely one where the top notes aren't great and the heart notes and base notes are better. It's pretty vague though, hard to identify what you're smelling. It's not I don't really like it, but I don't hate it either. Maybe it just doesn't work with my skin's chemistry. But it's pretty easy to find and affordable.

As told by my mother: Her parents bought this for her on a trip to Spain, circa 1988/1989. She wore this when going out in her late teens and early 20s, and “always got tons of compliments”. My thoughts: Can totally see why for her and everyone else this was or evokes a party scent. Starts with a strong bubblegum opening and continues to project. (Spraying this in a closed vehicle is LETHAL) Also the bottle should have been fuchsia with a blue accent, not the other way around.

I think it smells exactly like apricot and lotus. ( The original formulation anyway.). I had an apricot perfume from Outremer and mixed it with Whiff of Lotus from Pink and it smells exactly like it. 1987!

I blind bought online on Ebay. That was super cheap so I took a chance. To me this is heavily synthetic and lasts forever. I cannot really detect any of the notes with the exception of maybe some synthetic orange blossom. It gave me an headache actually ... Maybe I need to try this one again but my first impression was extremely bad. It was cheap but I still regret buying it :)

Bought this one in the 90's based on a magazine review that described it as "sizzling". Yes, it is possible to heat up this revolting melange of fruit until it gets hot enough to sizzle. No argument here. P.S. You know you really don't like a fragrance when YOU CAN'T EVEN CONCEIVE anybody pulling it off. But that's why fragrance is soooo personal.

Wow, there are a lot of Samba flankers, but that bottle shape is fun. The bottle I have shows an entirely purple cap and pale lavender-coloured liquid. This seems to be the original Samba, or something called Samba Esprit, which might be the same thing. (Fragrantica doesnt have a separate listing for Samba Esprit anyway) So what does this Samba smell like? The leading opening note smells like bubble gum. A bubble gum scent might indicate tuberose, ...but sometimes it's just bubble gum. Could I imagine this as a melange of the listed notes: freesia, orange, oakmoss, & lily. Hmm, with enough imagination, I suppose I could, ...though I certainly don't get neroli. This is really coming off as something like a random, mystery fragrance. Maybe I'll wear it someday when I'm a mysteriously random mood.

The notes listed here are different from basenotes, where they have them listed as citrus notes, jasmine, rose, orange blossom, amber, musk and myrrh. I remember when this came out in 1987, it seemed quite different and unusual with those citrus fruit notes, but not “fruity” by today’s standards. I can detect the jasmine and orange blossom, and it does have a sort of resinous/ musky base. Late 80s/ early 90s scent; fun & nostalgic. Love the bottle, too. *just wanted to add the jasmine in this smells like the jasmine in some of the Alien perfumes specifically, and I’d be curious to smell a vintage bottle of this to see if it was like that before.

I was expecting something that smelled like Carmen Miranda's hat, with a cacophony of every imaginable tropical fruit and flower creating an olfactory equivalent of an Escola da Samba batucada parading down the street in Rio at Carnaval. Samba is actually rather subtle --- perhaps they should have named it Bossa Nova. It opens with a bright, sweet generically fruity note, no individual essence standing out, and quickly mellows into an equally generic ambery vanilla. Not unpleasant, but not particularly memorable or distinctive either.

i put this on today for nostalgic reasons. in a second the monthly school discos, blue glitter and spice girls flashed before my eyes. ahhhhh... sometimes i do miss the 90s! hahah this smells like canned fruit salad, the best kind with the cherries. the drydown is actually not bad, very citrusy and spicy. in my opinion this is the kiddie version of sun moon stars. both turns into a super-sweet fruity freesia on my skin. i doubt i would buy a bottle today but a part of me will forever love samba.

Liked this a lot, back in the days... like, a bit masculine almost, in a good way (I like sorta masculine perfumes) and just clean and fresh and crisp... I think u can still get it some places on the internet... brings back memories, being a teen, the 90's, havin fun and just being young, haha :D Well, still am young! :) But not a teen ;) I would like to get a hold of this, just for the nostalgia... hehe :)

Just got this for $3.00 at a thrift store. Fruity, bright, and there is some sort of development going on at the opening. Fresh, clean , white floral , orange-y. There is a tartness in the dry-down. Nothing original and although the opening was a "burst" things simmer down to a skin-scent FAST. Certainly worth $3.00 . Bottle color should be white or pastel orange- NOT dark blue.

The original Samba, now called Samba for Women, was introduced in 1987, the same year we got married. It is currently distributed in Mexico and Puerto Rico, and not in the the USA, but I was able to find a bottle to celebrate our 30th anniversary. Sweet and floral, it makes her smell like a bride.

This is my first "real" fragrance as far as I can remember along with Tresor. I used this in high school, and I didn't have many scents then, I wore it every day. After one bottle I got tired of it. I remember that it was nice and different at that time, not a typical 80's stinker.

My grandma had a large collection when I was a kid I used to sneak in to her boudoir and Spray this perfume always brings me back to the good old days my grandma is gone now i always keep a bottle on my vanity is like having piece of her with me.

They must have reformulated this, it doesn ́t smell the same now as it did in the end of the 90 ́s. Yesterday when I tested this it was like a new perfume for me...odd because it was my signature scent back in the days :/

Ah, one of my first perfumes. I remember it being more ambery with tobacco notes than a fruity/floral fragrance. Still, it would bring back some fun memories if I was able to sniff it again :O)
