Tea Rose Amber

Sadly discontinued now, but worth picking up if you can find at a good price. Like the other fragrances in the Tea Rose line, it picks one thing (amber) and does it really well. Definitely the warmest of the Tea Rose perfumes. If you like amber Oriental scents, you will probably dig this. Since it is so amber forward, it would probably be great for layering if you want to add an amber note to another fragrance.

I have to agree with Karlovonamesti, except for the following additional notes. I find it opens a bit boozy, the only fragrance I own that does so. Then it settles into amber. I detect very little tea rose. I plan to layer it with other scents, as I feel it lends itself to that. I'll report back on how that goes later. I personally find the longevity quite decent,about 6 hrs.

My second review! Going to sing the praises of this cheapie! I recently got this on Amazon and I’m finding it to be incredibly versatile. It’s strong at first but gets sweet in the mid notes, about 30 minutes in. The dry down is similar to most other ambers, as you’d expect. I’ve recently been on a search for vintage Opium, Obsession, Cinnabar, etc. which has been partially successful, but this is a good bargain stopgap for my layering experiments in the meantime. My first amber was Jovan Secret Amber, which is outrageously priced right now. I also have various oils and the excellent Kuumba made paste as well. A story as to why I bought this. In 2021, when my mom passed away, I found a half empty bottle of this in a corner of her dark, hot garage, the label peeling off, cobwebs dusting the top. Mom loved Tea Rose but I guess this didn’t make the cut. Or as I’m revising my thoughts now, maybe she was spraying her clothes as she laundered, and forgot it out there when she got sick. I’ll never know. Mom was a true frag head who rocked Passion, White Shoulders, Paloma, Opium and all those vintage beasts, some of which I gratefully inherited. I was going to throw this ugly bottle of Amber out but tossed it in a box of junk and brought it home. You know how grieving goes. It sat in my laundry room for two years and I looked at it every day. About a month ago I finally decided to get rid of it. It was so dark in color I thought, “No way this is any good. Just one little spray before I toss it.” And to my surprise it was fantastic—I could not believe it! Who could imagine a perfume enduring such abuse and still retaining its beauty!! Years!! I am not lying here, it still smelled great! So I decanted the remainder to a new bottle and got this as a backup. I hope it ages as well as mom’s old bottle did! Definitely worth a shot if you love amber or are experimenting with layering orientals! I wore it layered with Another 13 today and I could actually smell more of notes in A13 (unlike before).

This one is a full-blown ambery oriental, with much less of a floral component than the original, although there is a little bit of tea rose in there. It starts off with an animalic honey, cinnamon, and nutmeg accord, made rather inedible by a saturnine rose accent that rapidly darkens the overall tone of the scent. Within thirty minutes this has all melted into a synthetic sandalwood and vanilla drydown, which becomes increasingly powdery and diffuse. Also, lurking in the mix is a semi-sweet "skin musk" type of note. Unlike the original Tea Rose and Jasmin flanker, TR Amber is a sheer and short-lived experience, with perhaps four hours for longevity, and not much throw. It is, however, a nicely balanced, woody blend. I paid five dollars for my one ounce bottle, and I'll have it forever. If you see this one at a discounter, snatch it up. It's no longer in production, rare, and a very nice scent for casual afternoons with friends and family.

Amber, amber, amber!!!!! A nice blend of Youth Dew Amber Nude EL, Cinnabar EL, Ambre Sultan SL. Light version. No roses found. Black pepper, vanille, clove detected) Kinda a retro. Very nice and comfy. Worth tryin'.
