Labdanum JB

Finally doing a proper sampling of Labdanum JB from the Perfumology Accords series, a 2022 release and fittingly labdanum-focused fragrance created by John Biebel, perfumer/owner of January Scent Project. It involves primarily labdanum itself, showcasing a great marriage of its balsamic and smoky qualities with slight pinches of beeswax and spices, a bit reminiscent of the resinous aspects of Ambre Loup by Rania J (off of memory) but still a bit different. It’s an excellent, rich resinous treat that fans of resinous fragrances will surely love. Currently it’s out of stock and I’m not sure if it’s coming back, but its pricing, when in stock, was $65 for 30ml, very reasonable for a high-quality, rich fragrance. Certainly I’d recommend that anyone interested in resinous fragrances seek this one out. 8 out of 10

I wanted to try a labdanum solinote fragrance and was excited to try this one when I came across it. I am only familiar with labdanum as part of the amber accord. I am a big fan of amber so I am not surprised that I really like this fragrance. Labdnum JB is a sweet and spicy resinous fragrance on a woody base with a soft leathery background. It smells far more complex than just the one note. It is cozy and a little sexy and would equally suit any gender. I understand this line was created as layering fragrances. This one does layer beautifully, but it can also stand well on it's own. I have found some layering fragrances a bit empty, but that was not the case here. The performance was very good. It lasted 8+ hours when I wore it alone. I never found the projection overly strong, but it was always present throughout the wear. It never really reached beyond arms reach, but I could smell it radiating from my skin all day. Labdanum JB smells like a very good quality fragrance, so the retail price of $89USD is pretty reasonable. Sadly because I live in Canada the price increases significantly after shipping and duties. But if I ever make my way to Philidelphia, I can see stopping by Perfumology and adding this to my collection.
