Bergamotto di Calabria

This is a study on pink pepper and how it's cleverly deployed here to create a totally unique bergamot scent for purists. This smells vintage, even though it's a modern fragrance. The perfumer has managed to extend that acidic "sting" of real real bergamot all the way from the opening almost to the end of the fragrance. It smells almost like vinegar, and it's sharp as if it's slightly fermented. I've tried a ton of bergamot focused niche fragrances, and this stands out as one of the best in my collection. I have about 25ml left from my 100ml bottle, which I bought for really cheap (40 bucks) on eBay in July of 2024. I'm thinking about buying 2 more 100ml bottles because this is a staple in my bergamot collection. Conclusion: excellent unique and natural acidic bergamot. Fixitives are used judiciously and hidden very skillfully. Fresh citrus with lots of pepper in the opening, like you can smell the pepper being ground on the spot, fades away eventually The citrus - Bergamot is both zesty and juicy, I have the sample for the cedro and neroli of the same line it smells very similiar to those Last for about 6 hours with 4 spray on my neck, projection is moderate, male leaning imo bc of the pepper, you can smell good quality ingredients with this fragrance

Sampling Perris Monte Carlo Bergamotto di Calabria (from the Italy collection), the tartest of the three entries I’ve tried from this house, albeit with some restraint, like Cedro di Diamante, of which it is reminiscent in its citrus dominance (bergamot, to Cedro’s lemon), with pepper, woods, iris, and musk. BDC is also laden with orange blossom, orange flower, petitgrain, and jasmine, so there’s a hearty floral component to it that is maybe not so present in Cedro, which lands in slightly sweeter territory. Bergamotto is more to the floral side, with the bergamot less dominant in it than lemon in Cedro. Overall, it’s well rounded, an easily likable fresh scent for the warmer weather, especially. Bergamotto di Calabria is priced at $190 for 100ml and is sold through Indigo Perfumery, Luckyscent, and several department stores in the US. As with the other entries I’ve tried (Cedro di Diamante and Arancia di Sicilia), I regard this as good value, as the fragrance offers some intrigue but is quite pleasant and versatile. Still, Arancia is my favorite of the three, but Cedro and Bergamotto are both nice, as well. 7 out of 10

Bergamotto di Calabria is a skin scent, but one that is well balanced, textured, with some depth. I had to press my nose against my wrist in order to detect it. I had also initially suspected my juice had turned due to the vinegary smell. I've experienced turned juice manifested as vinegary at times, rather than the common nail polish like smell. But as I read reviews, it appears that facet is probably a manifestation of the peppery bergamot. It's backbone is the common neroli/orange blossom/pettigrain combination, but the other notes texture the composition. But nothing stands out, not even the vetiver. It's all nuanced and well blended.

Unlike Perris's other citrus scents, Bergamotto di Calabria goes for the woody angle and it showcases, after 30 minutes or so, a bergamot-vetiver accord with refreshing, zesty, slightly soapy bergamot, refined, transparent vetiver and cool petitgrain, some pepperiness keeping things on the dry side, a tiny hint of iris bridging the citrus and the vetiver. Perhaps not the most exciting perfume in the world but well-blended and quality shines through. I enjoy wearing it for myself and it's perfect for those slightly cooler, cloudier days that bookend summer where you yearn for the sense of calm and space that vetiver can bring.

Reminds me a lot of one of my all-time favorites, Creed Virgin Island Water. They do have some notes in common, and that probably tells you what notes shine through best in this scent. Lots of zesty and juicy citrus, with a gorgeous jasmine heart, and a musky base. This is, of course, not as tropical and doesn't have the coconut, but if you were to add some coconut and light rum to this, I bet it would be very close to VIW. An ever-so-slightly-leaning-masculine scent, but as close to unisex as it can get from there. Clean and vibrant, while still being warm.

You get what the name implies exactly, a fresh juicy bergamot with some white florals. The freshies from this line are truly comparable to those acqua di parma ( including the sillage & longevity which is poor for this kind of scent ). I got it at a bargain for €40

This is a green woody bergamot fragrance, which is generally not the context that I enjoy smelling bergamot in. The focus appears indeed to be this peppery, woody, slightly soapy dry down with bergamot mostly being a fleeting introduction. A bit stale and boring, but if that is a genre you like it's a good option to look out for.

There is a significant contribution from pepper notes here. There is also a vinegary presence and in the opening quite strong I might add, it reminds me of a jar of peperoncini. This one is sharp citrus/pepper but this vinegary is pungent. It settles down but never really goes away.

Unfortunately this is my least favorite from Perris's "Italy" range. On my skin all I get is an aggressive pepper explosion. I first thought that the juice from the tester I used had "turned", but after trying this again from a separate 2 ml sample I had to reluctantly admit that this fragrance just doesn't work for me at all.

Bergamotto di Calabria by Perris Monte Carlo is the ultimate bergamot fragrance, featuring three different bergamot plant species; femminiello, castagnaro and fantastic. The bergamots used to create the essential oil featured in this fragrance are grown exclusively in Calabria, along the Ionian coast in Italy. The initial spray on skin is quite concentrated with a green, crisp and slightly sour burst of bergamot, petitgrain and pink pepper. There is barely any sweetness in this fragrance, and the materials smell very raw, to the point you can almost taste the citrus and the rind. Bergamotto di Calabria has a relatively linear scent progression, with the green, sparkling bergamot accord persisting into the drydown. Vetiver, sandalwood and musk provide a smoother finish to this fragrance and allow the citrus accords to rest on a dry, woodsy base. Unfortunately, this fragrance has rather poor longevity, (which is a common fault with citrus-focused fragrances). It lasted approximately 4-hours on my skin. I wore considerable amounts of Bergamotto di Calabria during Summer, especially when the temperature reached 40-degrees celsius. I found it refreshing and clean smelling on my skin, and I would have purchased a bottle of this fragrance had it not been so expensive and short-lived on my skin.

I recently had the pleasure of trying Bergamotto di Calabria by Perris Monte Carlo. This scent is warm and inviting with notes of Bergamot, Calabrian orange, Jasmine, Green Teas, Wood, and Tonka Bean. The elegance of this fragrance is undeniable, evoking thoughts of Zhongli from the popular video game Genshin Impact. This scent is perfect for any occasion, from a casual day out to a special night out. When I applied it, I immediately fell in love with the rich, yet soft blend of citrus and wood notes. What I noticed most is that the Bergamot and Orange notes are not overwhelming, providing a sweet but not sticky aroma. The Jasmine provides a light, floral tone, while the Green Teas and Wood add some earthy, smoky depth. The lasting scent of Bergamotto di Calabria is something special. It rests lightly on my skin, becoming warmer over time and becoming a gentle reminder of Zhongli's mysterious aura. The Tonka Bean scent also stands out, adding an exotic twist that blends the other notes together perfectly. Overall, Bergamotto di Calabria by Perris Monte Carlo is an excellent scent and one I'm sure Zhongli would approve of. From its light, refreshing aromas to its long-lasting notes, this fragrance is one I'll surely be reaching for again and again.

This scent is kind of a burst of citrus at first. Bergamot is blended with Petitgran, a naturally citrus smelling plant oil, then sweetened with citrus floral notes - Orange Flower Water, Neroli, Orange Blossom, Jasmine. You can definitely get the Pepper notes, but on me they stay kind of mellow and help to temper all the flowery citrus-ness. I feel like Vetiver and Sandalwood blend nicely in the base, adding a warmth that doesn't overpower anything. I can definitely smell the Jasmine coming through. It doesn't smell like it at all, but it reminds me of Jean Paul Gaultier Classique for some reason. Or maybe Creed Wind Flowers, but much, much, much softer. Or kind of Ramon Monegal's Monbloom. It is a unisex scent, but feels like it leans towards the feminine side with the Jasmine coming through so strong on me. I guess, in the end, it feels to me like a citrus, Jasmine, Neroli, Sandalwood type of scent. A little bit of a soapy quality comes through after a while, but in a nice way.

Immediately after applying, Bergamotto di Calabria is a skin scent. In fact I had to press my nose against my wrist in order to detect it. Granted I’m testing from a dauber when a spray is preferred, but this is light — between a body spray and a cologne in terms of strength. But I tend to absorb anything I’m wearing so it could just be my skin and not the fault of the composition. I pick up a barely there vetiver with bergamot. After a few minutes I pick up some sandalwood, and an overall clean, being in nature feeling. I want to test BdC via a spray to make a final decision. Leans slightly masculine but wearable by anyone.

My mom bought this because she loved the smell, but then got an allergic reaction from it and gave it to me. I was a bit surprised that this actually is male-leaning. It' not very masculine, but I actually don't think it' unisex - it has a very distinct cologne note. It's a pleasant freshie for a man though. Kind of a green lemon tea warm cologne. However, because the smell is so simple it' possible to layer it with other fragrances. I chose to pair it with Nebras Elixir today - a very sweet, milky scent with a hint of cookie.

The opening smells like those tiny green peppers in vinegar that they used to have at Steak N Shake. Very vinegary. Once it dries down it’s a beautiful, perfectly unisex bergamot with vetiver and nondescript flowy white flowers. It has a green or white tea feel to it as well. I don’t usually like vetiver, but this is very nice! I just can’t get past the initial spray of peppery vinegar unfortunately... I just feel like there’s a lot of other lovely citrusy summer fragrances out there, so why put up with that?

For someone who loves citrus perfumes,this is a dream come true. It starts with a burst of zingy,fizzy bergamot radiating from the skin but only after a couple of minutes it becomes creamy,woody a little flowery but not sweet.This is as good as it gets, if you like citrus fragrances with character. The only minus is a rather poor longevity,after 2-3 hours it's almost completely gone.

This not your usual bergamot fragance, its all fresh Bergamot and Ground pepper, with flowers underneath. Starts off masculine, but ends up, feminine and elderly. Very different from and unique from the usual bergamot scents like Acqua di Parmas or Ateliers version.
