Cacao Azteque

Absolutely stunning, and this comes from someone who is not a fan of floral scents, This is indeed to my nose a spicy-heavy, warm, unisex (but masculine leaning) take on a very dry and honey-like tuberose. It starts off with a dusty puff of pepper and a touch of a citrus sparkle that dissipates quickly, revealing mostly a dense cardamom and a dry almost leathery tuberose (among other floral notes) with a delicious rum-y honey-like sweetness. Then the 'stage shy' star of the show appears, a bittersweet dusty cacao note together with a warm musky base. I see a lot of confusion about this not smelling like cacao and I think it comes down to people confusing cacao and chocolate notes. Chocolate has a distinct lactonic fattiness and is heavily scented with vanillin, which is what I think people expected. Instead what you get here is, as the bakers among us can attest to, a dry bittersweet raw cacao. Little vanilla, it seems to be sweetened only by the addictive tuberose and some coumarin in the base, which brings also a certain dry hay like quality to the composition. While not really similar, I am reminded of Guerlain L'instant pour Homme EDT, specifically of the way it sits on a fine line between fresh and gourmand, but in this case it is more of a 60/40 or even 70/30 balance between dry, bright, spicy freshness and delicious cacao honey sweetness. The two are also very similar in term of performance think functional all year round day scent of about 4-5hr longevity, light, radiant, ethereal. If you are looking for dense sweet lactonic chocolate, this is not it (see Chabaud Lait et Chocolat). If you can conceive of a dry almost savory cacao, warm spicy tuberose, I highly recommend sampling this, easily a top 10 fragrance for me.

Cacao Azteque is a stunning and very surprising fragrance. It's like a spicy, boozy mix with florals: orchid, tuberose and pittisporum. The mix of Pittosporum and tuberose is a match made in heaven. Add some sandalwood and cacao powder sprinkled on top of it for the final touch! Gorgeous gourmand, perfect for lover of florals scents with spicy facets. Complex. Very alluring and sexy type of scent. Feminine for sure and more warm seasons appropriate. Moderate performance, lasts up to 5-6 hours with soft projection. Needs over spraying to get noticed, but it is beautiful. I really love the juxtaposition between the rum-cocoa pod contrasted with the white flowers in here. It gives the scent a very edible quality! Extremely well constructed and balanced. I’d be bathing in it if I had a full bottle. Edit 29.11.24 I got a bottle of Cacao Azteque at a great price during Black Friday sales. Smells amazing, a beautiful, powdery, floral gourmand!

I don't get barnyard at all. To me this has a spicy, uplifting somewhat aromatic feeling opening. This feeling stays for the duration of the fragrance for me while eventually the cacao joins in perfect harmony. The cacao is not sweet at all and maybe not be recognizable to some because of that. This is not a gourmand. Perfectly unisex in my opinion. I find it refreshing, intriguing, and sexy all in one. It is far from beast mode, but I like having fragrances like this in my collection that are more for me and by small scent bubble. Update: Previous review was from a spray sample, I just got a FB and find that the opening is much more peppery. I am not sure why there would be a difference but it still had the same gorgeous dry down.

I must agree with antonpan: there is no chocolate or cacao scent; as Calvini and Sir Charles say below, this is a floral. On me, it's a spicy, herbal floral. If you are intrigued by our reviews, definitely get a small sample from Lucky Scent first. I would not suggest a blind buy on this one. May 19, 2019: Sadly, I have used up the rest of my sample. While I found this perfume lovely and really easy to wear, no one else but me could smell the scent. If you don't mind a scent with barely any projection (even when you first spray it on) then try a sample of this perfume.

I have tested it in store. To me, this is a dry, aromatic pepper - cardamom - cacao scent in the opening and then gets to a lovely creamy cacao - tuberose, with the opening notes more in the background. It is really elegant and well balanced, in my opinion, and I would really like to buy it. I think it maybe appropriate all year round, but maybe not in hot hot summer days, and it can be worn everywhere I think, since I don't find it to be too strong and projecting.

@Marck Menke - I have not yet tried Aldebaran so I can't comment on any resemblance, but FYI this was released 8 years prior to Aldebaran, so it's definitely not a case of PMC jumping in on a trend set by that still relatively new release.

It is nice. To me the most prominent note by far is sandalwood. I also get some cacao and tubereuse. The rum emerges at the drydown and is the last note to disappear.

This smell is addictive for me🥰🥰, I did not find this attraction in any other perfume, I wish it performed better😢

Quirky, perky, poky, puzzling thing that's somehow BOTH a lot more interesting than it might seem AND a little disappointing. Big bang of red and black spice peppers you agreeably at first - and there's an awkward jolt into a phase which is almost a standard-issue mens' woody-spicy-autumnal mode, with a nearly-BOish vetiver cast. Not noxious - far from it, an almost pimento-y mellow burn, even hinting at Hermes Poivre Samarcande ... which is highly unexpected, but never a bad place to be. Still baffled rather than seduced me. Not a gourmand either, so chocoholics may feel robbed - dark, slightly earthy/sweaty cacao is there to be found, but it's low in the mix, a powdery-soft bassline rather than the main event. Sadly the bottom end is not rich or piquant enough to back it up, ( I mean COME ON! Call it "Cacao Azteque" and I want to smell chili and jungle leaves and unknown delicacies and find it BOLD. This is just ... vague?) And meanwhile... something really odd is going on in the soprano section, with the florals punching their way to the top and smelling ... quite dominant and very weird. (Might be an over-aged sample, but I could have sworn my scent nemesis immortelle lurking in there; there's something kind of acrid/herbal going on somewhere, but damned if I know what.) Sandalwood and musks sweetish, anonymous, generic, but not robust enough to benefit from being as synthy as they are (meow...). Reminded me most strongly of Arquiste's Anima Dulcis, but less sweet and somehow fustier and rougher round the edges. Wears as softly and fleetingly as most of the rest of the Perris stable; initially pretty bossy, projecting up to 6ft, but then it shrivels to skin-scent-only within an hour. Might have been unusually lucky to have it last in that very delicate mode for up to 5-6h. Overpriced. Still pleasant (especially in cooler weather). Maybe the "Aztec" thing about it is that it makes me zigzag sharply between enjoying it a lot and finding it kind of frustrating. Can't get my bearings at all. So: it's worth a go. But if you want real dark edible chocolate try Atelier Materi Cacao Porcelana instead; if you want weird jungly forest-floor niche cacao adventures, Lutens Borneo 1834 or PG Coze might do it with more character, or Zoologist Elephant provide more interest. For a gently skin-musky-spicy cacao, Anima Dulcis does it better for my nose. Still, cacao completists should probably check it out - it's bound to hit someone's sweet spot - and it's certainly a lot more interesting than Perris' generally rather conventional line. A cacao curiosity.

I percussed this second hand and blind bought it. I know that's a Really bad idea in general, but i thought; "i've seen a lot of documentaries on the Azteque and was hoping for something like the cacao explained in the doc's. I can't say i got what i was expecting. But i'm not entirely unsatisfied either. It does smell like something ancient, and isn't unpleasant at all. I just don't know if it's something i can wear in public. More of an experience and an olfactory journey then a fragrance. I'll wear this when watching historical documentaries or movies about ancient times. Other than that, it's going to be good for layering. with a 21% oil concentration and a robust base, this will add an interesting nuance to darker fragrances. Like Oud or dark wood fragrances. The opening is spicy indeed. Has a good kick to it. On my skin it becomes very floral after the first 30 minutes, and from then on smells little of other notes then the floral once. I can't call this masculine at all. But it doesn't really have a overly feminine scent either. I'd say it's unisex, but leaning feminine on my skin, due to all the florals. I wish i could say i got Any kind of cacao, cardamom or sandalwood. But all i get is flowers and maybe a hint of rum. It's quite unique. I have never smelled it's like. I don't love it, but i don't dislike it either. Do i regret the percues? No, but i probably wouldn't have bought it if i had tried it before buying. Score: 6.75/10. As far from blind buy safe as it gets. Not for young people either. This is a mature person's scent. When you want to be interesting and different. You'll stand out, for better or for worse. Broken down: Scent: 6/10. Bottle: 10/10. wearability: 3/10. uniqueness: 8/10. performance 8.5/10.

It's an interesting scent. There is a vibe of mexican spicy chocolate in here for sure. It mostly stays linear on my skin with cacao, pink pepper, cardamom, and a touch of musk/sandalwood/leather. The fragrance goes straight to a skin scent for me which normally wouldn't earn a penny of my money but something warm and sensual pulses through this scent that I foubd magnetic. This is not a fragrance to wear if you want to get noticed. It is too soft and quiet for that. This is the scent you spray on your torso or legs before you get intimate with someone to add a subtle air of warmth and spice, to create a scent memory. Totally unisex, and if this was beast mode, it would be backup bottle worthy. I haven't tried the "absolute" concentrated version but I don't think it can get to where I need it. Scent: 7.5/10 unique and memorable certainly. Well done. Projection: 1/10 for 15 minutes. 0/10, straight up skin scent by the 30 minute mark. Longevity: 3/10 it has a lifespan of approximately three hours on me. Sillage: 0/10. 'Nuff said. Would I buy another bottle? No. I have it, and I'm not going to return it, and I will probably use it up because there is literally *no* way to overspray this: but at $180 retail for this light of a scent, I can't really justify it twice.

شروع ای نرم و اسپایسی با همراهی آکورد ای بوزی که نوید بَستر ای مناسب برای نشستن گُل مریم بر مَسند کار رو میده و هِل؛که در ابتدا بسیار پرقدرت و شیرین ظاهر میشه که البته دوست داشتنیه ترکیب بوی هل و رام در ابتدا با نیمچه حس چوبی و حتی دودی آمیخته شده بود که دلنشین بود و این مراسم ده دقیقه ای ادامه داره تا گل مریم خیلی آروم و با وقار جای خودش رو تو دل عطر باز کنه و کنار نُت های پودری مثل صَندل و مُشک؛ظرافت شکننده ای پیدا کنه گل مرم به شامه من کمی حالت ایندولیک داشت که شاید ترکیب اش با مشک،توهم ای از چرم رو به مخاطب القا کنه کاکائو زیر سایه مریم قرار داره و عملا تحت فرمان اونه.به طور کلی از فضای مرسوم کاکائویی هم فاصله داره اما وایب گرم،خوشمزه و زیبایی داره وجه گلی عطر صرفا معطوف به مریم نیست و نت های گلی دیگری هم تاثیر گذار هستند که گاهی خودنمایی می کنند و همراه هم به مشام می رسند شیرینی کنترل شده ای از جنس چوبی_گلی_پودری داره که روی مخ نمیره و به اندازه است -تست شده از نسخه تولیدات اولیه- ****************** scent:8/10 longevity:8.5/10 sillage:9.5/10 purchase value:5/10 ******** overall:7.8/10

I really like this! This is quite unique in the usual niche kind of way but really does work and blends beautifully. Wonderful spicy opening which quickly gives way to a rich and non-sweetened realistic cacao as the heart of the fragrance. The white flowers mixed with cacao is where the interesting uniqueness of the perfume lies. The tuberose is not powerful but is distinctly there, mixed with the orchid which mellows it out. Orchid and vanilla combinations are not unique in other fragrances but I believe this was the inspiration behind this, substituting vanilla with cacao for something different. I wish this projected slightly more - although not completely an intimate scent, I do have to come in close for a sniff. For the niche price I wouldn’t purchase this, but it has inspired me to explore more cacao scents that are not typically gourmand.

It's very nice and interesting, quite rare for a cocoa scent. The cocoa here works more as a spice than a sweetener, well, like real cocoa. The idea of leaving unsweetened ingredients that are usually associated with sweets is great. I would like to see this more often than once every 10 years. But... it's too simple, flat and seems unfinished. Something is missing here. If there was at least more rum - it would be great. It definitely doesn't smell like a perfume with 10 notes, but like a perfume with 4-5. It would work better as a spicy enhancer than a standalone perfume.

Pepper, cardamom, cocao, rum, tuberose, sandalwood. Brown, green, cream, spice. It's not sweet. It's strong in character but intimate in sillage, even with the extrait I have. With the name this brings to mind the smell of a hut in a hut in Yucatan forest, where chocolate is ground and brewed. Cacao Aztecque isn't gourmand, though. It's the fragrance of the room, the ingredients and tools before the drink is ready. Naturally beautiful, balanced and limited in performance.

It's so not typical for my nose to like pepper but I actually love it in this fragrance. The spicy opening is stunning and actually my most favourite part of how it develops. The cacao not is not sweet at all and it fades quickly. This is definitely not a sweet perfume so it's easily unisex. It's so different from what I usually wear and yet I like it and find it beautifully crafted and intriguing. I'd consider buying if it lasted longer.

Spicy, pleasant, muted, elegant, dry. On my skin the cacao takes about 30-40 min to be detected, and only slightly, more like a supporting note than the protagonist of the fragrance (this is not a gourmand). The longevity is ok, about 4h on my skin, with an intimate projection, i.e. people won't notice unless they get very close to you. Totally unisex. A like, but not a love for me.

I fell in love with the opening of this, spicy, peppery and exciting. Unfortunately it didn't get much futher. Skin scent within twenty minutes. vanished within two hours. No middle no end. Maybe it's just my skin chemistry, it was a cool day, but honestly I've had £5 EDTs I've bought on a whim that lasted longer.

it starts with a lively shot of pepper, with a touch of cardamom and red pepper that dresses up a cocoa absolute with a raw and bitter profile. A few tuberose petals mingle with cedarwood and sandalwood in the company of musk for a more velvety effect, but the scents remain dry and muted... A bit too much alas

It's very nice & transparent, with a surprising amount of pittosporum, but doesn't deliver the star of the show—cacao—which is faintly noticable compared to all the spices and indole.

More sandalwood than cocoa. Slightly sweet, unisex, comfortable to wear. A niche scent that everyone likes. I prefer vanilla de Tahiti.

Its too light on the cacao - if a perfume is titled cacao it should smell like cacao. This one comes off a little sharp and aftershavish from the bottle - the pungent aftershave flavour thankfully vanishes within 45min or so leaving behind something softer - if you REALLY look for it you may imagine a hint of cacao, or at least something sweeter. It’s too pungent from the pepper making it too sharp. Tone down the pepper, especially the red pepper and increase - heavily!- the cacao note, perhaps with a dash of vanilla or benzoin and voila you would have a cacao. As it is, I don’t hate it but it doesn’t fill any gap in the olfactory repertoire. The longer dry down leaves behind a beautiful subtle feminine white floral but it is so close to the skin you literally have to bury your nose in to look for it. This in itself would make a lovely scent, called something white floraly as no cacao there.

Intense black pepper and smoky cardamom, very persistent. Rum comes second. Cocoa is there somewhere but it never gets centre stage. After many hours you get a beautiful floral lingering drydown with tuberose and pitosporum, and a creamy hint of musky sandalwood. More than an Aztec cocoa beverage, this makes me think of a Caribbean privateer, living it's rogue but luxurious life, raiding cargo ships full of spices for the glory of the Motherland. Overall a very interesting and well crafted scent. Not very feminine, more unisex-to-masculine leaning. Lasting power is average.

Im not sure - there is a floral note/scent that im not fond of --- OR not familiar with because I continue to put this fragrance on to figure it out. Overall a creamy type of scent, pink pepper spicy, maybe a little soapy like Jasmine soapy, and then it smells of white chocolate?. I also get rum - but not an ahoy mate roll out the barrel rum - which is my favorite! but more like a Carolina Herrera VIP rum. Longevity is about 3-4 hours. Prime & proper (June Cleaver)- holiday music, candle opera lit while trimming the tree type fragrance.

I had a sample of this but didn't end up testing it on the skin - in the air it was too spicy for me in a way and although I enjoyed the scent, it wasn't one that suited my personality.

Very natural Like a scent you might expect from a handcrafted oil or aromatherapy fragrance. I don’t find it to be linear. It is much more peppery at the top, then the cardomom and orchid. The chocolate develops slowly and is very subtle. Continues to grow more beautiful with every sniff. Oohhh I adore this. It does fade very quickly but it’s now at the top of my want list nonetheless. I’d consider the extrait if it’s known to have better Sillage.

Maybe I should try again, but for the life on me, theres nothing that reminds me of the drink of kings. No no nah.

The Aztecs believed that the cacao tree was a gift to the man of Quetzacoat, the god of wisdom, who taught them how to roast the beans and grind them into powder to make the drink they called cacahuatl – a fiercely guarded secret by the gods . Initially, only priests and royalty drank it, but it soon became available to everyone. Spanish historical documents report that 100 cocoa beans could buy a slave. Having said that, I was expecting a fragrance centered on the note of cocoa precisely, even let's say accustomed to the "almost mononotic" style of Perris: to reproduce an image here there is only a sprinkling of it, almost imperceptible. Spices are felt (in a really nice opening), then leave space to pittosporum and tuberose, which unfortunately I hardly appreciate, and this is not the case. So obviously subjectively speaking, if the fragrance had kept the head line, I would have loved it. However, if you are a lover of florals with these facets, I absolutely recommend it.

There is definitely cacao in this, it's very much present! The reason people probably don't recognise the cacao in this is because it has little to do with standard processed, milky chocolate sold in Europe and the US. This is IDENTICAL to the scent of the hot chocolate we used to have in Guatemala. The chocolate tablets they made hot chocolate of was different from the "european" smooth, bitter cacao or chocolate bars we make hot drinks of here. It was a more natural and crude kind of chocolate/cacao. It had an edge to it, was more spicy and it was really good! So given the name of the perfume - azteque, this is cacao the mexican way, from the land of cacao and chocolate itself. It's not a loud perfume, it's quite discreet and you'll probably have to reapply during the day, but I find it lovely and it really is mexican cacao in a bottle. Edit: Discovered that this stuff is amazing for layering. It will spice up whatever you blend it with.

This is just so damn beautiful and enticing! Dark, deep, creamy cacao, not too bitter, but not sweet either. I get this almost pine resins (turpentine) hint, it gives the leathery vibe, very soft and warming, it wraps around my skin as a leather glove. Flowers are there but really not in your face, barely there but intoxicating memory of tuberose and gardenia. My only concern is that it just sits sooo close to the skin only minutes after spraying, like barely any projection at all... is it just me? It is the only reason I haven't gotten a full bottle yet even after months of testing and enjoying this. I will probably still give in and get a bottle though, gorgeous, sensual scent. Perfectly unisex. Uodate: I got the bottle after all. More sprays remedy the longevity issue. Projection still medium.

Cacao Azteque is a pungently sour blend of odd spices, stale tuberose, bitterly non-gourmand cocoa powder, and a santal note so overtly pickled that little sense of the ostensible wood remains. This must rank among the most controversial (and least enjoyable) concoctions released by Perris Monte Carlo; a house that usually delivers much more pleasurably refined offerings. There actually is a largely regrettable trend for scent profiles composed of hot spices, cacao, and tuberose. Barrois' iconically polarizing Aldebaran seems to be the model to which they all aspire. Presumably this is Perris Monte Carlo's attempt to cash in on this puzzling phenomenon.

In the opening this feels like I've shoved a pepper shaker up my nose. This is one of the only times I've felt that the pepper notes in a fragrance were actually like ground pepper. Straight from the kitchen cabinet. With a name like Cacao Azteque, you'd be expecting a scent based around Cacao. There is no sweetness to this scent at all. It's an incredibly subtle and subdued fragrance. Most of it's character seems to be around pepper more than anything else. If you're looking for a Cacao scent you may be disappointed. If you're looking for a woody, peppery scent with trace amounts of something warm, give this a try.

I received this as a sample and wow this is short lived, which is a disappointment. I do detect a hint of cacao under rum, but I’m getting ahead of myself. There’s a green slightly bitter note to begin, then the rum/cacao, then there’s a woody leather. I don’t smell any soap in this. It quickly turns to a skin scent which is something of a shame as it is quite delightful. If I can find it at a ‘designer’ fragrance price, it will be worth owning.

I was expecting a lot more cacao for a scent named after it! What I am getting is a spicy, peppery, green cardamom floral. Reminds me a lot of Neon Graffiti Jasmine Sarai, even including the slightly citrussy elements. Just smelled Jasmin Sarai empty bottle, that one is so much fresher and greener, but that spicy cardamom / floral is similar. This is a refined cacao fragrance. I'm not a big fan of cardamom, rum, and pepper but everything is so well-blended, this just sinks into your skin so elegantly! The cacao is spiced but not spicy, and yes, this is naturalistically quite sweet but it's neither edible nor gourmand. Cacao Azteque is unisex but I find it ever so slightly feminine. I think this is appropriate to wear year-round as it's not overly rich.

Now we're talking my type of party rt. Sixth in the discovery set, not sure the order but opens amazing. Get bitter greens and browns, different earthy with the Tuberose blending in. Keeps the forest bitter set accord going and then starts releasing uplifting pleasantries to it. Not familiar with all florals in this, but the calm and special in the mid is really nice.

For some reason this fragrance reminds me of two other fragrances from this same brand. It’s spicy and peppery like Shinning Moon and also has a sandalwood effect like Santal du Pacifique. I like both of these fragrances, so of course I like this one as well; a good combination of both. Long lasting and unisex.

I'd really love to love and buy it, but I smell only pepper, cardamom and something soapy. Likable, but no cacao at all, and I know the mexican type of cacao. It's weak, also, it does not project at some cm... So sad!

not sure i can tell there's cacao in here. strong tuberose-gardenia at first, then much later softens/warms into something more, for lack of a better word, "sensual". is that the cacao? i could be imagining it.

Good Mexican chocolate (think Abuelita) meets sandalwood scent with a healthy dose of pepper and floral notes. Unfortunately, sillage and longevity are non-existent which ruins the experience for me.

More florals than I expected, but I do get a light, powdery chocolate and sandalwood underneath. Great formal one for spring. Also very unisex, I really can't tell if it's more feminine or masculine.

This one is EXTREMELY similar to Creed Royal Mayfair. I do not smell any tuberose and cacao here; but I got that specific eucalyptus note with cedary molecular base.

Dusty cocoa that is versatile and smells unique, but not in a ‘look at me’ way. Nicely balanced and natural smelling.
