Perry Ellis for Men Anniversary Edition

I bought it after watching a video on YouTube with the top 5 perfumes of the 80's. I didn't know anything about it. The contents, the bottle and the packaging are identical, except that it does not say anniversary edition. From what I've read, the smell is the same as the 1985 original, except that the now banned oakmoss has been replaced with cinnamon. I can easily say that it is worth blind buy it. The smell is aromatic, slightly spicy amber, perfect for autumn and the longevity is incredible 12h +. Also the price is incredible for 150ml. P.S .: The only downside is the sprayer. At first I thought it was broken. You have to give 5 puffs to be equivalent with a normal puff.

Mine does not say Anniversary Edition on it. Aside from that, it looks like the photo above. I absolutely LOVE this stuff. Longevity is always an issue for me, because apparently my skin devours fragrance. Perry Ellis for Men has excellent longevity on me, though. It doesn't smell overly-masculine to me, because of the rose note, maybe. It's spicy-sweet. I think virtually anyone could wear it, regardless of gender - or age, even. Except maybe not an adolescent, unless they were very trigger shy with the application. But then, it seems to me that most fragrances I really like could be right for men or women - or anyone in between, for that matter.

Let me make a few things clear here.. If you weren’t born in the 70’s or 80’s then this cologne very well may not be for you. Although cool to see fellow members in our community loving this stuff, please don’t mistake their experienced noses and experience to make a potential blind buy, you will be disappointed. Unless, you’re into old barbershop fragrances that have well over 10 ingredients to add to the pyramid then I’d avoid this one, it’s dated, and smells how men back in the day used to smell, strong, and unbreakable. Now that the disclaimer is out the way I have to say I hated this stuff. So much so that it’s been sitting in my collection collecting dust for over 10 years. However, recently I decided to pull this stuff out and give it a shot. I don’t know if I’m becoming stupid in my older age, but I don’t remember it smelling this good, and I never liked these scents. Who knows, maybe after expanding my collection with hundreds of poor preforming bottles, I find myself craving older colognes that have nuclear sillages that can choke out a room. The pyramid seems to be missing here so I am spit balling here when I tell you which notes stand out, but only because I’ve smelled these barbershop scents so often that I have their notes memorized to a point. This stuff was released originally in 85, but was reformulated with the anniversary edition. Top: Aldehydes, basil, green notes, lemon, lavender, verbena, bergamot, fruit notes, galbanum. Middle: Carnation, jasmine, thyme, mandarin, rose, pepper, pimento, cyclamen. Base: Amber, benzoin, incense, leather, moss, musk, tonka bean, patchouli, vetiver, sandalwood, civet, opoponax, vanilla. Anyway, 30 notes later and you have this stuff. It bangs hard and if you can stay away from people for an hour after spraying you will be giving off decent whiffs that others will appreciate. If you like scents like Puig, original Paco Rabbanne, Lagerfield classic then this stuff is for you, but if not, move along and save your money. These types of scents you literally grow into with age, luckily I’m in my 40’s now and I eat these scents up now. I’d rate this stuff higher if there was more versatility, but there’s simply none, what you spray is what you’re stuck with from start to finish. 7/10

this fragrance is a nuclear bomb in terms of longevity. It;s half life is atleast a full day and probably into the next morning. The interesting thing is at least the sprayer on my edition bottle (which does not say anniversay edition) only spits out the little teeny squirts. But trust me, thats all you need. Its a kinda strong scent in that respect. As far as the scent? after revisiting it after some years and more than several other scents in between, the scent is not bad. It does have a sort of lightly floral kinda airy pleasant springtimy rose upfront, which I do like. After a bit, the scent turns kinda like a root beer note or something, with a touch of orange. Could say amber but it is not as enticing or nice as amber smells. There is also some spice down under, and maybe woodiness. Im not really a fan of the scent in general, the first part for me is the best, the long mid is not as good. Way down at the end of the fragrance hours in a pleasant spicy wood creeps in. In fact, it took me about 50 wearings just to find it a bit interesting. This was and still is a little odd for me. Its the kinda root beer like note.. It;s not bad though but definitly not as good as Lagerfeld, Obsession of even Quorum.

i have the 5 oz EDT perry ellis for men. it does not say anniversary edition, its the black box with a brown bottm part not silver. basically what i realize is this is a pretty great ROSE scent. a scent of oranges, leads to a huge dose of airy dewy rose, and a woody resin scent. there is some light peppery woody spice and a touch of amber in the base. I didnt like it for the first times i tried it, but it is actually pretty good. ROSE. it almost smells like a rose soap sometimes at first. it can also get pretty woody spicy later on. a huge rose is in this fragrance, and maybe that was the main point to make a rose scent with the orange, spice and resin complimenting it. this fragrance lasts FOREVER! its pretty tenacious. though rose is not my favorite scent, this is a nice scent to wear anytime, and even when reading a book or just chilling out

Im kinda start diggin this Perry Ellis for men fragrance. I have this same bottle, but it does not say anniversary edition, just a standard bottle. I did not really like it when I got it a few years ago now, I thought it was pretty generic and boring, but now I tried again, and a couple times now, and I kinda like it. It is a nice casual dressy sort of fragrance. When you dont want something bold or challenging or a powerhouse etc. or a fougere. or a citrus. this one is kinda a rosy wateriness, and very woodsy resiny but elegant sort of scent. This is a nice pleasant easy going fragrance.

While I understand that the anniversary edition is by any measure a different scent (the powerful oakmoss awesomeness that was the foundation of the original having been replaced by what appears to be a strong dose of cinnamon), this is a steal at 150ml for about $25 US. The amber is still there, as are the leather, florals and a musky base that if not the original civet is a more generic musk that still gets the job done. On its own this is still a moderately complex scent ideal for cool weather use day or night, with an effecive, moderate sillage and decent staying power.

I Myself have This Anniversary Edition...I Must have smelled The Original Vintage but don't really remember as I was Completely Lost In A CLOUD of Calvin Klein scents in the 80s & 90s LOL...I Do Really Appreciate this P.E. in it's Own right as a Beautiful Leathery Rose Chypre that Just as I'm Typing This is reminding me a lot of CHAPS by R.L.!!! No Wonder I Like THIS!! A GREAT Scent for those Crisp Autumn Days!

hmmm. This is a nothing special scent. First try it smellt like the scent of walking into a clothing store. After many many many more uses to try and convince myself I didnt waste $20 on such a huge bottle of fragrance, I came to the conclusion one night after putting it on and laying in my bed to read a book before falling asleep. Then it hit me. This is the perfect scent to wear to the library.

This scent is old school. It is very strong, and has an animalic vibe to it. A good friend of mine put it well, “it smells like your old uncle.”

I have a particular fondness for scents from the 80's, but this smells like failure. It is pungent and will unfortunately, radiate from your skin for hours on end. The oak moss is nearly non-existent and you can likely find its rival at a dollar store. Sorry, folks.

I absolutely hate this one. I don't dislike many fragrances but this one smells old, dated, and disgusting to my nose.

This perfume is long lasting n smells classy with strong smell of rose n with ambery sweetness. Can be unisex.

Firstly, let me say that I don't have the Anniversary Edition, I just have the normal one with the same looking bottle. From what I can gather they are exactly the same juice. With that out the way I have to say I LOVE this stuff. I had never even heard of it until I saw a couple of reviewers who review old school scents talk about it. From what they decribed it sounded like something right up my alley. I love rose when it's done right and this rose is very nice and masculine. This reminds me of stuff like Kouros, Furyo and those uber masculine 80's powerhouses. It's got that clean, slightly animalic, locker room fresh accord but this is much more on the cleaner side. It's amazing quality for it's price. I blind bought it for AUD $27 for a 150ml and have no regrets. But keep in mind, you need to have an appreciation for scents of this era or it may not be for you, but I find that people from very different demographics like the smell of this on me. I think it would be a great signature scent if you are a mature guy who likes to smell a little different from all the others guys wearing their blue/aquatics and bubblegum spritzers. Price/quality ratio = Off the charts.

@Thomaso7, it sounds like you have the formulation that I believe was released 10 or more years ago. Your description of it is quite good! However, IMO the "vintage" formulation is quite different, softer, more complex, perhaps the smoothest "masculine" of that period.

Mine never said Anniversary Edition on the box, but the bottle is the same. This musky thing I have to be in the mood for and its not that often. I get a lot of vannila in the drydown. Definately not from the modern era. The bottle is huge and the sprays are small.

if you whip your ass, used that to clean around your car's gas tank/hole, then gave it to your friend to smell, he wouldn't be able to tell a difference. Out of all the colognes in my collection, this is the only one I can't stand.
