Saffron Rose Absolute

I love this warm, woodsy, slightly dirty rose with saffron. I see it as unisex as many seem to, so of course you can wear it if you are a man and to me it has a distinctly masculin feel, or at least it makes me feel like a distinct man. Many times I wear it for myself at home, sharing it just in my intimate space with my wife. In my wife's opinion this fragrance is quite masculine and sexy. After (3) sprays there is a strong oud blast for a few seconds, but then rose and saffron take over with the oud always present in the background. While the flowers fade out very slowly, I pick also a leathery/ambery/fume scent that I attribute to labdanum and incense. A sandalwood note blends perfectly with the oud during the dry down. Performance is average for this type of notes, meaning that is above average if compared with non Oud fragrances. My rates for Saffron Rose Absolute:: - Scent:.........................8.5 (my judgement) - Drydown...................:.8.5 (really plesant) - Longevity:...................8.5 ( 8+ hours, 3 initial sprays) - Sillage:........................7.5 (4~5 feet at the peak, projects for 2~2.5 hours) - Versatility:...................7.5 (avoid using it in hot weather; very good for many situations in normal and cold weather provided you hang out with oriental scents lovers; It's far from being cloying like many oriental fragrances, due to its smothness) - Compliments...............8.0 (Yes it is compliment grabber due to its smothness and pleasant notes; It's not an head turner but it's very sexy) - Uniqueness:...............8.5 (I do own more that 30 oud fragrances and none is simalar to this one) - Quality:........................9.0 (smells expensive and classy; excelent sprayer; heavy glass) - Presentation:...............9.5 (very classy bottle, very nice box) - Price:...........................9.0 (€23 for 100 ml + VAT) Average: 8.45/10.00 Excelent fragrance; I do recomend it. I consider it to be worthy of deserving a place in many niche perfumists offer. I strongly disagree with some very negative reviews in this page. It's less sweet than its Black Vanilla Absolute brother (sister?) from Perry Ellis, and I like it just the way it is. I found a bit of similarity between this fragrance and Rosam from Histoires de Parfums. Unfortunatly this ressemblance is noted only from memory as I don't own Rosam and only tried it twice.

Saffron Rose Absolute opens with a Culinary Saffron note that smells like a Dessert Spice darkened up with leathery undertones. Its followed by a subtle Rose note thats dark & just on the verge of being Jammy wrapped in a cloud of Heady Incense that becomes more Resinous as this fragrance wears on. The Labdanum combines with the Incense, adding a slight warmth & Ambry sweetness. The Oud is here, but its light. Adding a soft, Dark, Earthy, Woody, undertone to the composition. To my nose the overall accord of this fragrance smells like fresh baked Saffron Cookies dusted with Ginger & Cinnamon in a home scented with Nag Champa Incense. Perry Ellis: Oud Saffron Rose Absolute is Resinous, Dark, Sexy, Mysterious, & intensely Middle Eastern. With regards to performance this fragrance performs best on Fabric. Projection is slightly above average for a little over an hour on skin. Lasting on skin about between 4 to 6 hours. On clothing this fragrance will project & leave a beautiful Sillage trail for over 12 hours. As you move Saffron Rose Absolute moves with you. As your Body heat rises this fragrance reactivates & causes it to project from your clothing. Its a shame the Perry Ellis Oud Line was discontinued. They were the best offerings from The House. **NOTE** Concerning the "Smells Like" section, Saffron Rose Absolute smells absolutely nothing like Montale's "Aoud Safran". The Saffron note in Aoud Safran isnt of the Dessert Spice type. Its much more authentic, potent, Leather-like, & may be a bit off putting to someone not used to the smell of Saffron. Aoud Safran smells more like something that would come from the House of Bortnikoff with its combination of Oud & Saffron. Aoud Safran has a mild resemblance 12 hours after its Saffron note has worn off & its Incense is left. Its not even worth mentioning that these two fragrances smell alike. So please dont buy Aoud Safran thinking that its going to smell like this fragrance. The only fragrance that I can think of thats somewhat similar smelling to Saffron Rose Absolute is "Aswad" by Swiss Arabian.

This is absolutely intoxicating. It's different than any of the other fragrances I own. It can be too much if you hose it on, (it can be overpowering if you do) but once you figure it out (3-5 sprays for me) this smells classy, expensive, and a bit exotic. It is glorious. I also have the black vanilla version, which is also great, but there's just something about this one. I was stopped by two attractive ladies the other day who wanted to tell me I smelled really nice (I was actually shopping for a women's perfume for my daughter so after thanking them they gave me some ideas) It also layers well, I tried it with Hawas black as well as Ramz silver with great results This is a real treat. Worth every cent, one of my favorites.

This ticks off all the boxes for me for a very enjoyable wearing experience. I have recently become familiar with Arabian oils so I know what oud (agar wood) is supposed to smell like. Perry Ellis did a great impression of it right out of the bottle..tangy medicinal oud but it quickly dissipates into the saffron rose side of this perfume. It's a spicy sensual rose..it reminds me a lot of Madness by Chopard but lighter...it's a bit more crowd friendly. I guess my recommendation is, if you haven't had a lot of experience with Arabian perfumes but would like to try something different, this is for you. I love it!

This perfume smells so expensive and the oud is done in a really alluring way. The oud in this smells like the oud in my other favorite oud perfumes but at a wayyyy cheaper price point. I got this at burlington for like 25 dollars. its super strong and long lasting. If you like saffron rose oud combo, you'll love this.

GOOD TRY PERRY ELLIS. I HAVE OTHER DESIGNER WITH SAFFRON AND OUD AND THIS ONE RIGHT THERE. BLENDED WELL AND DECENT QUALITY.VERY NICE BOTTLE IT LOOKS SO NICE ON MY DRESSER. A COZY SCENT FOR COLD WINTER NIGTHS.

The price is creeping back up so get while you can! The suggested retail price was $90 so this was not a cheapie by no means people are lucky enough to get for cheap in the states but the price will not be in the $30 range any longer. The fragrance I've had for 2 weeks now so the review is my opinion. This is a nice softer Oud then other Oud's out there. The Rose is not as pronounced as i would like but the Saffron is defiantly in the house. The Rose starts it off and the Saffron and Oud takes over. Giving that it is a Perry Ellis Frag, it isn't bad and the Bottle OMG is Fantastic! Again because your able to get it cheap doesn't mean that it is cheap at all.

This is the second of the line I've worn, and like the black vanilla scent this is a light-touch synthetic oud that will serve as a great "intro to oud" for newcomers, or as a mild oud for those that like oud-rose fragrances but are in the mood for a mild one for one reason or another. On my skin it's got light-to-moderate projection when it opens, a very soft skin scent within a 2-3of hours and after four hours it's essentially gone, so I like to keep this as a "house" scent - so it's available for re-application for day use or it's settled close by for sleep if I apply it in the early evening.

This fragrance has plenty of saffron, some rose, and very little oud on me, but I'm okay with that. I also like that the incense note isn't highly noticable, as I'm not a big fan of incense heavy fragrances. As it matures on my skin, it does get a little more oud-like and less rosy. I like this, but I have to say that it's not my favorite oud. I like Oud Vanille and Oscar Midnight Amber better, and they are cheaper and easier to find.

A friend gave me a full bottle. At first, I thought, “oh no, another rose-oud combo.” But it’s quite well-blended such that it’s harmonious. It’s not as superb as Tom Ford’s Noir de Noir, in my view the best rose-chocolate (with oud and saffron hints) in existence (pre reformulated!), bit this is a really nice scent. Again, no one note screams. It’s just well-blended. EDIT 2/20/21: Beautiful powdery rose-saffron confection.

This smells cheap and ugly. Dry-down smells like stale feminine deodorant. There are many other rose-oud-saffron scents at this price point that are far better. This fragrance is a fraudulent, cynical mockery of the rose-oud-saffron tradition.

I’ve owned this scent for a couple of years now and haven’t written a review of it yet. I decided to write one tonight after reading through the previous reviews and seeing some negative ones that do not match my impressions of this scent at all. I own a few rose/oud perfumes and have tried several others that I don’t own and, I have to say, that this one holds it’s own against most of them. It is less rich and sweet than my much loved Oud Bouquet but, because of that, is wearable in more situations. It’s certainly more easy to wear than my Indonesian Oud which borders on the edge of the barnyard. I really appreciate the saffron note in this. It plays beautifully with the rose and this is a leaner, drier, rose than the big jammy sweet rose in Bouquet. Oud in this is more subdued and less prominent than it is in many Oud fragrances. I can and do wear this happily during the day although I would avoid wearing it on the warmest days. One area where it might offer less than my more expensive Oud/rose scents is in the area of longevity it’s not fleeting, but it’s not the 12 hour bomb that some of them are, and it’s not going to reach across the room and mug people 10 feet away from you. I’d say probably good for about 6 hours at a decently noticeable level.

Compared to the PE Black Vanilla, this one is a bit disappointing on me. I am not a very big rose fan to begin with but I enjoy saffron, oud, musky scents, especially in the cooler temps. At first spray, this comes off like a tangy sweet powdery rose, almost off putting - deal breaker, especially on my skin. After about 10-15 minutes, that funky introduction fades into a softer, incense and oud and this performs much better on my clothing. In fact, the layers of smoky incense, saffron and oud can be better detected on my sweater with much more pleasant delivery. This scent can go either way in terms of likeability, it's either up your alley or not. Definately not safe for blind buying for sure... Longevity and sillage are about 4/5 out of 10, but the bottle is huge and beautifully done, so a few extra sprays to freshen up won't hurt.... Edit: The lingering scent on my sweater 10 hours later morphs into a powdery, woody rose.....

GRACIOUS! OK, so I have an array of Rosey Oudy Saffrons. Some medicinal, some stunning (Hello Noir de Noir)...this almost made my jaw drop! I have the Vanilla one as well, which is also great, but for the rose N saffron lovers, here's your baby that does not scream, nor smell like medicine from the 1920's. It has the smoothness of Noir de Noir for sure, if anyone is looking for something to compare how it's going to come off. If you like one, you'll like the other. This is not a beast, like so many in this family are. Altho one spray will do ya, & go from there ;). VERY WELL done PE, do NOT mess this dream up w/ a silly reform, like so many do. I DO highly recommend. Man or woman. I am a woman, this would def work for both, as does it's cousin NDN, b/c there's no sharp manlike cologneyish knife stabbing at you! Nom Nom,,,I smell good! I also have Yves Rochers above ^^ I like it, but I do like this better.

I’ve been wearing this (new formulation) on my hand, and after about 5 minutes I kept thinking, “This smells so familiar!” It just dawned on me - this smells like a toned down Alexandria II/III if you took out the apple and cinnamon. Obviously this isn’t a side-by-side, but from memory they’re in the same vein. All three share a similar slightly powdery rose, with a dry woody/oud accord. I can’t comment on performance, but if you’re a fan of the Alexandria line, you’d likely enjoy this one. Not bad considering it can be had for ~$30!

Very nice fragrance, well balanced, classic and classy. Lots of warm, tempting rose served on a saffron plate and seasoned with some incense that adds profundity. It would be extremely seductive if... it didn't disappear after several dozen minutes and if it were sensible at more than 15 centimeters... Pity!

This is a very cheap smelling scent. Don't be fooled. Oud, don't smell any. Rose? not in my bottle. Saffron plenty and this is where it ends. I guess I shouldn't complain because it was not that expensive but, I will. Just have to mix my own Oud and rose with it. Really Perry Ellis? I Pass. 1/10

This smells like a cherry fizzy drink to me. I was hoping this will be dark, sensual, and Gothic. I don’t really know how I feel about this perfume, but I’m going to leave it in my car and if I happen to return it fine if I keep it as a car perfume also fine. Returned it

Love this scent but at some points it feels a little lackluster compared to other rose oud combos I have tried. Because of that, I am looking to sell or trade my full size bottle within the US if interested!

I agree with Max Forti on YouTube, saying this is really similar to Lyric Man. For small amount of money u get great alternative to Lyric Man. Check it out!
