Phaesus

I've never smelled a sweaty horse before, but this makes me think that I should give one a sniff. The opening of Phaesus definitely yells 'cologne' and 'masculine'. It reminds me of my dads old stetson. Not that it smells like stetson, it's too floral for that, it just put me in that headspace. This foray into the manly doesn't last long thankfully. The macho flair quickly calms down to a unisex skin scent like none that I've smelled before. I really can't describe this musk, and I can't stop sniffing it either, it's soo comforting. The first time I tested it in store I couldn't part with the test strip, and thankfully the animalics lasted for a week on paper. I'm in bed right now sniffing the shirt I wore it on today because I'm not quite in the headspace to start that adventure from manly man to sleepy animalics. If Phaedon came out with this scent without the top notes I would buy it in a heartbeat. It would skip the line on my Full Bottle wishlist and I'd be broke. For now I'll enjoy my decant of calming horse sweat and chip away at that list, who knows, maybe I'll become a horse girl. I'm sure people have done crazier things just to chase a scent.

Phaesus as both a concept and composition is, in my opinion, extremely successful. Opening with bright, sweet, and sharp florals and woods that blend gracefully with a clean and vital animalic note (which I find is indeed evocative of the concept of horse foam), Phaesus comes across as distinctly lively clean musk. There is something very personal about this scent -- the natural exudation of a very energetic, social friend that you admire. Perhaps you had a romantic inclination towards this person, with some brevity. Either way, there is an attraction to Phaesus. It is more of a skin scent on me, but I am able to smell it on myself with some strength after around 4-5 hours. Due to the bright, almost beachy quality of the sap notes, I would definitely consider this a warm weather scent. To me, this scent is more masculine, but is absolutely unisex. If you do not like the sharp, almost vinegar-like quality that some of the phaedon have, I would not recommend this for you. Otherwise, if you are looking for a unique, clean, summery musk, I highly recommend Phaesus.
