Poivre Colonial

Ok wow. I am going to get a full bottle of this so I think you may see how this review is going. I think of Niche version Terre de Hermes and a little bit of Montale Red Vetiver in regards to other fragrances that are similar. It's a extreemly clean cut of fresh wood. I order all these samples from LuckScent in search of wood notes and I never seem to find that style of wood in a fragrance I like. They are usually nothing close to what wood smells like or too sweet or spicy. This fragrance is wood. It has the perfect blend and spice and citrus in my opinion. It's perfect. Price is great too for a 100ml its around $125. The only bad thing is that it's on back order and that's probably due to the people who get a sample of this So as far as smell goes I give it a 9/10 Quality 9/10 Longevity 8/10 Projection 7/10 Overall 8/10 These type of scents can only last so long and this is an overall well executed blend! Try it!

A rather linear scent — the sharp kick of black pepper comes right from the start, yet it’s softened by what feels like nutty or cocoa-like warmth. The spiciness stays gentle and smooth throughout. Though it’s an EDT, it lasts surprisingly well for about 4–5 hours, drying down to a cozy woody skin scent. Easy to wear in all but the hottest seasons. Recently noticed that the brand has discontinued many of its scents, but thankfully, this one is still available!

The most enigmatic black pepper scent! Just a pure, arm sniffing joy for the entire duration of the one hour it stays on my skin. I might still buy a bottle though because that one hour is absolute bliss.

I am a BIG fan of traditional masculine scents, such as wood, so after seeing the notes on this one I purchased a sample to try it on my skin. PC is a very fresh cut wood scent. Closing my eyes I image that it is the late 1800s and I am standing in a busy saw mill. All around me trees of various types are being cut by large steel blades. The scent of sap from the trees mingle in the air. Sawdust litters the ground all around me. This is great scent, but it is a very soft scent and it does not last very long on my skin. 4 hours in it is a skin scent, 6 hours, almost gone, just traces of it are left and I have to press my nose against my skin to smell it. Bottom line, if you are looking for a fresh cut wood scent you should try a sample of this one. Hopefully you will get better longevity on your skin.

Straight-up black pepper: a gorgeously detailed sense-impressionist portrait of all the facets of the freshly-ground good stuff - somehow tingling, fruity, medicinal, woody, luxurious, and dark all at once - but this lasts for literally under half an hour on me. Downright tragic IMHO. If I remember rightly it skewed slightly male but would easily wearable by those ladies who like it spicy. But honestly Caron Pafum Sacre's diva-pepper burst lasts longer and projects longer than this. A few sneezes' worth of pleasure and I am afraid you're done. No more Poivre for you! Really delightful and impressive but all too brief.

The scent itself is amazing, lovely woody, fresh citrus, spice...it is just not intense enough and does not last. If it were the way it was the first minute you sprayed it (it disappears after about a minute) and lasted a good solid 6 hours on a dry down basis it might be worth the investment. Unfortunately this is a problem with a LOT of perfumes and there are few rare gems that do last / are intense (AND smell good too) are so hard to find. Again, here if you spray 6 x on same spot it intensifies but disappears all the same. So sad. ALWAYS try before you buy! I have 100+ niche samples for swap within Europe - get in touch!
