Tabac Rouge

WARNING: Side effects of Tabac Rouge: obsessive compulsive wrist sniffing and or shirt/fabric sniffing. SECOND WARNING: this is gonna be a long one. ;P I got two sample vials of this absolutely delicious creation and I can tell you right off the bat those two samples are going to be gone in record time. I was working out on my treadmill yesterday and could not stop sniffing my wrist to the point of tripping myself and almost smacking face down on top my treadmill belt. It was all worth it though. ;) Ok let's officially start this review off by addressing the humongous elephant in the room, which is : does this smell/resemble TF's TV and the answer is...*drum roll*.... YES. In my honest, humble opinion, very much so. There are a few minor differences, the most prominent being TR is a sweeter composition but, all in all, they are extremely similar. TR is a gorgeously creamy blend that is worth every single penny (and compared to TV you'll be saving quite a few of those if you go with TR.) This is quality juice and one of my best finds in the past 6 months - hands down. Onto notes/what I get from TR. Heaven. Pure bliss. This fragrance starts out with a dewy, moist almost a little bit bitter tobacco. The honey chimes in and adds a nice dose of sweetness, making this a syrup - like tobacco concoction, followed by a sprinkle of cinnamon all blended together to perfection. I must add that for me, on my skin, the tobacco note never dismisses itself out of the composition entirely. It's present through the whole life of this frag and apparent in all three stages as well. Towards the end it's almost a shadow of its former self but I can still pick it up easily, and I'm ecstatic that on my skin the tobacco hangs around and doesn't fizzle out once it hits the mid. Once the top fades, which on me is about 35 minutes in, I start to pick up a warm, creamy ginger note and a slight powdery vibe. The tobacco is still working it's magic, but at this point is just toned down a few notches and mixed with the ginger gives off a subtle sharp, kind of peppery tobacco-like tone. I also get a slight incense vibe, warming this composition up and adding just a hint of subtle smoke/sweetness, but also adding some balance to the blend. There is a trace of musk adding a faint dose of animalic raunch. There is only but a pea sized amount of it in this fragrance, but just enough to give this fragrance some edge. The benzoine adds an almost vanilla like accord, which further adds another layer of a milky like, creaminess. So at this stage, it's a creamy, spicy, a little sharp, slight incense, slight vanilla tobacco with a splash of grit. Together these notes work off one another in perfect unison, each playing an important role in this composition to make it as refined, erotic and utterly hypnotic as it is. The final stage of this composition settles down into a velvety smooth, slightly sweet powdery tobacco (though I still pick up the tobacco, as I mentioned earlier it's present but in a transparent sort of way) with a hint of that spice and sweet honey. DELISH I also have to point out that between each of the stages of this composition, the transitions are seamless and fold right into the next in such a masterfully composed way. Words that come to mind with this blend are smooth, creamy, velvety, warm, extremely well blended, well rounded, polished, cozy, exquisite, luscious, tempting, edgy but sophisticated, enticing and silky. To me, this fragrance is a contradiction of itself in the best possible way. It's everything and anything, and I adore that aspect of it. As far as gender is concerned, I'm female and I do and plan on continuing to rock the hell out of this fragrance. To me, it's perfectly unisex. There's enough qualities about this fragrance that will cater to both genders comfortably. So, to wrap this up (finally, right..lol) I am utterly smitten with Tabac Rouge.( as if you couldn't tell already by my hour long novella) This is such a sexy fragrance and I'm absolutely spell bound by it. I don't recommend ever blind buying, (although I myself do such a reckless thing), I try (pretend) to be the voice of reason, but with TR, all bets are off. Go right ahead. Buy it. Go go. Gooooooo! If this composition is up your alley then it's a safe bet. Even if you aren't head over heels for it, you are going to at least like and enjoy it. As far as sillage goes, above average Projection. This is hard to gauge since I only have sample vials but with my experience with this frag, by just applying it to my wrists and neck, it definitely projected well. I can only imagine how it would preform straight out of the sprayer. I'm ruling this a safe above average/ beastly Lasting power - 10 hours easily. K, I'm done now. Finally. Woohoo. Happy Sniffin'!

Wonderful fragrance. Excellent. Dominant notes include Cinnamon, Ginger, Tobacco, and a Honey/Benzoin accord which might as well be interpreted as Vanilla. Even though tobacco is not listed in the pyramid here on Fragrantica, it's certainly there, and it's listed as "turkish tobacco absolute" on the Phaedon website. The cinnamon/ginger combination is what I noticed first after applying Tabac Rouge. It's intense and spicy, a strong cinnamon note with a piquant bite supplied by the ginger. Underneath it, the tobacco is fresh and smooth, providing structure in the middle without ever becoming too strong. And finally, a lush honey-benzoin accord, which is soft and sweet, holding everything together at the base. If these notes appeal to you, you will absolutely like this, as Tabac Rouge features a well-balanced structure composed of top notch ingredients. There's nothing cloying or overwhelming about it, nothing grating on the nostrils, and it performs well in terms of projection and longevity. Of course, you can't review Tabac Rouge without comparing it to Tobacco Vanille. The comparison is required, in my opinion, because these two are very, very similar. However, there's a few differences which may sway you in one direction or another. And since both fragrances are excellent, it really comes down to a matter of personal taste. Let's start with price. Although I believe price really shouldn't be much of a factor once you're spending over $150 on any frag, it's good to know what you're working with: Tobacco Vanille: A 3.4 oz/100 ml bottle currently retails for $295. The 1.7 oz. bottles retail for $215. Tabac Rouge: A 3.4 oz/100 ml bottle currently retails for $160 Here are the main differences between Tabac Rouge and Tobacco Vanille, in my experience. 1) The opening: The spices in Tabac Rouge are clearly cinnamon and ginger. They sit in a higher register than those in Tobacco Vanille and have more piquancy or "bite" to them. The spices in TV are a bit darker (not much...remember, any difference between these two is subtle) dominated by cinnamon but also with an apparent clove note that I don't get in Tabac Rouge. 2) Cocoa: In my review for Tobacco Vanille I said that it's about 3 parts vanilla, 2 parts tobacco, and 1 part cocoa. I get a definite cocoa note in Tobacco Vanille, blended with the vanilla, that I don't get in Tabac Rouge. It's just not there. 3) The weight and density: Everything in Tobacco Vanille is bigger, louder, and more tenacious than in Tabac Rouge. The notes are more dense and a bit deeper. For example, Tobacco Vanille's tobacco note smells nearly identical to Rouge's tobacco, but it's more robust and upfront. Same for the vanilla notes, but Tobacco Vanille's is richer and seems to have greater depth. 4) Performance: The longevity and projection of Tobacco Vanille is insane. Projection 10/10. Longevity 10/10. You'll get 16 hours or more out of TV with solid projection for at least 12. I'd give Tabac Rouge a 7/10 for projection, and 8/10 for longevity. But that's not necessarily a bad thing...8 hours with a foot and a half projection is plenty for me. 5) Balance: While both scents are well-composed I get a little more note separation with Tabac Rouge. At times the notes in Tobacco Vanille can kind of run into each other, and that doesn't happen in Tabac Rouge. So which one's for you? If you want big, deep, rich notes with insane longevity and projection, a bit of a chocolate touch, and something that will get you noticed without fail, then Tobacco Vanille is the right choice. However, if you prefer something quieter (though still noticeable), with a spicier cinnamon note in the top, and maybe a little more finesse throughout, then Tabac Rouge is your option. If you enjoy tobacco, vanilla, cinnamon and spice, you really can't go wrong with either one of these, and you should just pick the one that fits your style. They're both great. Although I owned and enjoyed Tobacco Vanille, I'm happy to have discovered Tabac Rouge because personally, I prefer it. Its subtlety is a better match to my personality and I can wear it more often than the Tom Ford. In some cases "clone frags" are annoying, but I enjoy having two options in this scenario. Neither fragrance is superior, but both are certainly better suited for specific contexts and personalities. Choose wisely ;)

"Sweet and stylish... confidently yet subtly making a statement in the nightclub." Tabac Rouge (TR) is a 2013 fragrance from the French perfume house Phaedon. Highly rated on Fragrantica and claimed to be a clone of the much acclaimed Tobacco Vanille (TV) by Tom Ford, I decided to take a risk by blind-purchasing a tester bottle from Sens Unique in Paris (with the help of a friend), as it was sold out. Looking back now, I don't regret one bit over the €120 blind purchase. On my skin, TR opens with unmistakable notes of cinnamon and honey. The opening is thoroughly dessert-sweet and will appeal to people with a liking for gourmand scents. Plus, I also strangely get a bit of sweetened oatmeal note in the scent. After an hour or two, the tobacco slowly reveals itself. Unlike Parfums de Marly's Herod, the tobacco in TR is smoother and more refined. It smells more like a flavoured cigarette rather than the leafy, spiced type I get from Herod. The longevity is very commendable; even after a full working day of around 9 hours and a shower, the sweet-tobacco drydown is still present on skin. Same goes for the sillage; wafts of cinnamon and honey are noticeable from a distance. Its heavy and dark characteristics make TR a perfume best used as a night fragrance for cold climates too. Now comes the big question: how similar is TR to TV? Indeed, they are very similar from the onset: both are clearly tobacco-vanilla unisex fragrances. However, they are a number of subtle differences. Many people claim that TV is sweeter than TR, which is true to some extent, but it's a different kind of sweetness altogether. TV's sweetness stems from its vanilla-dried fruit combo; TR, while arguably as sweet as TV, has sweet notes that come from its honey-cinnamon combo instead. TV is somewhat harsher and louder, while TR is softer and more subtle. In essence, I would say that the prominent notes for TV are tobacco, vanilla and dried fruits while those for TR would be tobacco, honey, cinnamon and a lick of ginger. As user Q.R. Crumm explains, TR is "the refined and classy brother of Tobacco Vanille (who is the loud, shouty ar*e-hole, the person who gets piss-drunk at a party and then gets on everyone's nerves.)". Amusing yet accurate analogy on how TR compares with TV. Mature, refined and classy, TR is a slightly different take on the immensely popular Tom Ford fragrance. Is it blind-purchase worthy? Maybe; if you like TV but feel that it's too obnoxious or overwhelming and want something more agreeable, then TR is definitely worth trying.

I received a sample of Tabac Rouge with a purchase, and I'm very impressed. My first to try from Phaedon, it is an excellent take on a honey scent. Rich and realistic without being cloying, it is beautifully balanced throughout. Artisanal honey is one of life's little luxuries that I particularly enjoy, and I enjoy the inclusion of a well-placed honey note in perfume as a result. It adds a rich, refined sweetness when done well. Here, it is placed alongside a resinous amber accord, and they marry beautifully. Despite the name, I get very little smokiness. TR is honey-dominant from initial spray, slow, sticky and sweet. It smells like raw, artisanal honey - good enough to eat. Warm, sweet spice complements it nicely, with cinnamon particularly evident. I get some nutmeg too. The ginger is very subtle, but adds to the warm spicy accord. A vintage-style amber base emerges as it develops, rich and resinous. It sweetened to perfection by the honey, and the spices tie it all together beautifully. It is reminiscent of spicebombs of old, but the emphasis on honey gives it a creative, modern twist. It becomes dry as it progresses, with the stickiness of the honey giving way to a powdery, somewhat airy texture. A plant-like tobacco note emerges here, not smoky, but dry and hay-like. It is a nice counterpoint to the sweet amber as well as adding interest. It becomes musky as it fades, remaining a honeyed amber scent until final fade. Sillage is moderate and longevity is long-lasting. It is unisex despite its sweetness, and is best worn in autumn/winter. A lovely, high-quality take on a honey scent, TR strikes the right balance between being sweet, dry, airy, amber-y and spicy without ever being cloying. It is creatively put-together, while being wearable and is satisfying throughout. One of the best honey scents I've tried. 4.5/5.

Tabac Rouge definitely has striking similarities to Tobacco Vanille, but there's also distinct differences between the two. I love Tobacco Vanille, but I hate the price tag. After reading and listening to the reviews about Tabac Rouge I decided to make a blind purchase on this as a more affordable alternative to TV. TR arrived today and I was pleasantly surprised as soon as I sprayed it on. The opening definitely smells like TV to me. The combination of rich, warm spicy notes, tobacco and sweet notes immediately put a smile on my face as it really strongly reminds me of TV. As it settles on my skin the similarities are less distinct. TR has a really strong, rich, dense and sweet honey note that lasts from the opening till the very dry down, whereas TV has a gorgeous vanilla note. The spiciness in TR is much more subtle with just a smooth cinnamon as compared to the spicy blend in TV which is more sharp and potent, probably due to cloves. To me the overall feel of TR is sweeter than TV. TR smells very similar to TV when I just catch whiffs of it throughout the wearing rather than smelling it up close. If I smell the scent really close on the skin I become more aware of the differences. Whiffs in the air bring the combination of tobacco, honey and cinnamon to my nose, while smelling it close to the skin I mainly detect lots and lots of honey. Tabac Rouge is a beautifully composed fragrance and I'm very happy to have it in my collection as a worthy alternative for Tobacco Vanille! Longevity and sillage are great! ♥♥♥♥♥

Why there isn't tobacco listed among notes?! Even without seeing notes and knowing what am I trying,I could say there's loads of tobacco,honey and cinnamon in this scent For years I thought that I loved Tom Ford tobacco vanille and I was saving to buy it for hubby as a birthday gift(and ofcourse sometimes steal some sprays for myself)but now I've changed my mind in a second.I don't want TF TV any more,I'm head to heals in love with this masterpiece As I've mentioned before tobacco is here,lots of it.but there's no tobacco sharpness/edges thanks to honey.honey makes it warm and sweet and it's just right amount of it.too much honey could easily ruin it for me.but there's benzoin helping honey to give it balmy quality and deliciousness Cinnamon and a hint of ginger,give it a tasty edge.I adore it's drydown when a soft hint of powder and musk is added to provide a feminine soft powdery quality but I don't mean that it's a feminine scent.it opens masculine and as time passes,it moves to feminine side of the track.it's definitely unisex and easily wearable by both genders and I'm a girly girl who usually can't wear masculine or even uni fragrances Tabac rouge is a combination of tobacco,sweet and spicy notes which make it a tad gourmand and sexy as hell and very soft powdery notes.it's done so beautifully that it doesn't tire me soon as most honey,tobacco scents Longevity is amazingly.it stays for hours and hours on skin.sillage seems to be great too,can't tell for sure before full wearing Highly recommended ❤❤❤❤❤

For me, this is a better version of Tobacco Vanille. If Tom Ford's composition is too sweet, too thick and too heavy for someone, then Phaedon's proposal is the perfect solution. Of course, the similarity is huge and you need a bit of practice to catch the differences, because at first impression the scents may seem almost the same. However, there are nuances that make me choose the Phaedon version when I run out of Tobacco Vanille. Tabac Rouge is less sweet and therefore seems more masculine. It is also more spacious, not as heavy, musk adds a lot of air and powdery notes lightness at a later stage. One cannot fail to mention the presence of honey. From the very beginning, you can feel that the notes of tobacco, spices and dried fruits are well surrounded by a sticky, thick honey sweetness, to which the balsamic benzoin eventually adds. Despite this, these are not overly heavy or overpowering perfumes with sweetness. I also like that the clove is more tempered here and does not overwhelm other notes, as is often the case in this type of holiday compositions. Tabac Rouge is not an original scent, it can be safely called a secondary composition, but the high quality of the ingredients, the emphasis on slightly different nuances, and exemplary parameters and at the same time the price much lower than Tobacco Vanille make it an excellent alternative to Ford. It is worth it, especially since the price is less scary. Beautiful perfumes. 9/10

Warm, sweet, delicious, well-upholstered, reassuringly solid. Like shisha from heaven, with all the bewitching tobacco smell but none of the screechy cloying notes. Nothing to scare the horses or sweep you off your feet in amazement here, but this is seriously, intensely comforting and enveloping stuff. It *is* very sweet, which I usually hate, but this manages not to cloy at all; it's all soft curves and rounded edges in all directions, so never becomes saccharine-sugary or thuddingly tobacco-heavy. A really finely-controlled exercise in restraint. Both tobacco leaf and honey notes seem truly organic and multi-faceted to me, though I'd have really loved a bit more of spicy dimension as well. It may sound like faint praise but when I say it's a less-complex Chergui, or a less-blowsy Habanita, I mean both of those as serious compliments. For those looking for the perfect tobacco, this should be an automatic try, and very probably an automatic win. Seems totally unisex to me, though some might find it over-masculine if heavily sprayed. Almost entirely linear, I didn't find it evolved much, but it's so delicious that was a definite plus. Strikingly impressive longevity, too - still hitting hard up to 6h, detectable at 9, faint skin scent up to 12h and on cloth a little further than that. Goshdangit this one truly is a winner.

Beautiful underrated scent. SUPERIOR to TF TV in longevity and projection. In fact very similar less vanilla, more cinnamon and spice. Problem is I wont buy both anymore as Parfum De Marly does a better job again. Its smoother. TR and TV are drier if thats what you prefer. None the less if you love Tobacco I would think one of these three would be anybodys honest top Tobacco picks. As such and for reference after 40 or so Tobacco scents in my collection my top would be one of the above followed in no particular order and simply because they are different to each other and none smell alike yet all stand out in performance: Xerjoff Commandante Xerjoff Naxos Miller Harris Feuilles De Tabac Atelier Cologne Tobacco Nuit Comptor Sud Pacific Rhum Et Tabac Nicolai Parfumer Cuir Cuba Intense Ormonde Jayne Montabacco Intense Ormonde jayne Montabacco Stephane Humbert Lucas 777 Qom Chilom (though no tobacco is listed) Farmacia SS Anunziata Autore D'Tabacco Kerosine Broken Theories and borderline where tobacco is there but not as distinct Ex Idolo Ryder, Sl Chergui and Piotr Czarnecki Kiviskin and.. just to upset some people... no Killian - overated, where every tobacco scent is barely traceable...(yes I own some)... I wanted to shorten and rewrite my review. I've worn Tobacco Rouge for a couple days now. I think it is my #1 Tobacco frag. I liked what someone said; of Tom Ford TV, Tobacco Rouge, and Franck Boclet Tobacco, they are all very close, so it may be best to chose the one you like best... I did get all three. But I may not be repurchasing TV, and definitely not Franck Boclet Tobacco. All 3 are great, but Tobacco Rouge wins out, here is why... The quality and performance are equal if not better than Tom Ford TV, and better than Boclet T. Vs Franck Boclet, the notes are more distinct here with Tobacco Rouge. Tobacco Rouge uses a real Turkish Tobacco absolute, and plenty of it in Tobacco Rouge. (according to Phaedon web site) It has the best and strongest tobacco note of these 3. It has great benzoin, honey and ginger notes. The ginger adds freshness and complexity. The sweetness feels very natural, because it's coming from the honey note. It's not overly sweet, and balanced with the dry Tobacco note. I'm picking up on the great quality benzoin gum resin here. It's a light woody resin, that gives aromatic depth. In the dry-down it becomes a TV clone, but I like the differences for the first hour or two. Rating: 9.5/10 God loves you. John 3:16

Can we get the notes for Tabac Rouge corrected? The Phaedon Paris website says "Turkish tobacco absolute and incense make up the core accord" yet neither note is listed here. Not listing tobacco in Tabac Rouge is downright silly since the name "Tabac Rouge" is French for Red Tobacco. Tabac Rouge smells like a rich combination of tobacco and honey that is cozy, welcoming, and smoooooooth. Longevity is off the charts and projection is low to moderate, which is perfect for a scent as heavy as this. It doesn't scream out for attention but it'll get noticed when anyone comes close, making it a marvelous choice for an autumn evening with someone special. I was debating a purchase of Tobacco Vanille when someone mentioned I should try Tabac Rouge too, and I'm so glad I did, because I greatly prefer this. Tabac Rouge is easier to wear, it's more versatile, and it's smoother. Thumbs up! Way up! I'll also add this: It's funny how some people try to smell with their eyes instead of using their nose. Read through the reviews below and you'll see a few where they didn't see tobacco listed as a note, so they couldn't smell tobacco even though tobacco is the most prominent note in the scent as well as being in the name.

Tabac Rouge is an extremely well-made fragrance. In my opinion, it is very unfortunate that this scent is so heavily compared to TV & subsequently identified as its clone. This kind of practice (also seen with Tuscan Leather & La Yuqawam Homme) limits the newer scent's effort to demonstrate in full their own interpretation of the particular theme and possibly its unique characteristics. To my nose, TR & TV are pretty distinct perfumes, considering their evolution. They apparently do share a very similar sweet tobacco burst in the opening, but that's about it. The tobacco note of TV (at least on my skin) lasts for a short time and all I am left with once it's gone, is a delicious vanilla note that lasts for ever. On the other hand, the tobacco note of TR is spicier and always present (though much weaker of course) till the far far drydown. In total, Tabac Rouge is a very cozy gourmand fragrance, quite elegant & discreet with a balmy vibe, that is a total pleasure to wear, especially when the weather is cold. It possesses a nostalgic & romantic aura due to the immediate correlation of the all so familiar tobacco note to the good old days of family gatherings. Very delicate, enveloping & warm. 8/10

I love this perfume. It must be one of the best tobacco perfumes available. It features a true tobacco note with holiday spices. A cozy, autumn or winter tobacco dream! I can appreciate the comparison to Tobacco Vanille. They smell similar, but there are some (in my opinion) big differences as well that are worth mentioning. First, Tobacco Vanille smells just like vanilla flavored pipe tobacco, whereas this smells more like iced cinnamon buns and gingerbread mixed with tobacco. Tobacco Vanille has an ashy quality about it, seems denser, heavier, more suitable for evening or special occasion and definitely has outrageous sillage. Tabac Rouge has more of a gourmand quality, seems cleaner, more translucent, sweeter, almost candy-like, features distinct cinnamon/ginger spice; and sillage is more appropriate for those who do not wish to make their presence known before they even enter the room. Due to the sweetness, I think this has more in common with Chergui than with Tobacco Vanille. But Chergui is sweet and powdery like marshmallows, and Tabac Rouge is not particularly powdery. Tabac Rouge is truly a quality perfume, very well crafted, and absolute must-try for tobacco lovers.

To me, this smells like the love child of Xerjoff Naxos and Tom Ford's Tobacco Vanille. It is decidedly sweeter than TV with a strong, albeit natural and not cloying, honey note replacing the vanilla. I'd argue that Tabac Rogue is a more balanced overall blend than TV which to me has a really overpowering clove note. The connection to Naxos is of course due to them both being honey tobacco fragrances. They're both blended very well, no complaints there. The distinction to me is that Tabac Rogue is less fresh since it lacks the floral and fruity notes that makes Naxos uniquely wearable in warmer months. Tabac Rogue knows what it's trying to do, be a sweet, spicy, and sexy fall & winter powerhouse, and it excells at it! Overall I'd say 9.2/10 and at half the price / 100ml it's definitely better bang for your buck than TF TV. Especially considering I get poor longevity from recent batches of TV. Frankly, even smelling side-by-side they're tough to tell apart, it's really just the difference in sweetness, and toned down clove that helps tell them apart. If someone from Gen Pop who may have smelled TV once or twice smells Tobac Rogue by itself, they'd probably mistake it for TV.

The first time I smelled Tabac Rouge, it brought back a lot of memories from childhood for me. My Dad and a couple of my Uncles used to smoke pipes when I was a kid ( None of them smoke anymore, my Mum and aunts nagged them out of it over the years) and I remember sitting on my Dads lap with my uncles and their other friends in the evenings over drinks and this haze of fragrant pipe tobacco smoke hanging over it all, laughter and jokes and the smell of Scotch and clink of glasses. One whiff of this brought all that back. It's amazing the memory triggers certain smells are. Sometimes you love a fragrance for more than the sum total of it's notes and smell, sometimes it represents something more abstract, so my review might not be completely objective. For me personally, Tabac Rouge is My favorite tobacco fragrance,a beautiful construct, smelling like a newly opened pouch of fragrant pipe tobacco. Good projection and longevity is about 10 hours with a couple of sprays as well. Chergui and Tobacco vanille are my other tobacco loves but this is my favorite. Excellent Stuff. 9/10

This is SO good! Tabac Rouge does smell remarkably similar to Tom Ford's Tobacco Vanille; for sure. The only difference that immediately comes to mind is that Tobacco Vanille is just a little spicier than Tabac Rouge; the vanilla note in Tobacco Vanille carries just a touch of spice that isn't prevalent in Tabac Rouge. Tabac Rouge is smoother; creamier, though. There are absolutely no sharp edges in Tabac Rouge. The wafts of Tabac Rouge that catch your nose throughout the day make you pause and savor it. Both scents are warm, inviting and cozy, and absolutely perfect for chillier Autumn and Winter days. Honestly, you can't go wrong with either fragrance. If I had to choose one, though, it would be Tabac Rouge. The price is so much more reasonable, at $150 for 100ml. Tobacco Vanille is more than twice that price. I wear Tabac Rouge so much more often than Tobacco Vanille for this very reason. I love wearing Tabac Rouge around the house on the cold, overcast days of November and December. I would be hesitant to wear a $350 fragrance casually around the house.

This starts with a big cloud of smokiness, unmistakable Tobacco indeed, but not the Marlboro kind. This is the stuff rich people smoke with a pipe, in their library. Leather bound books, stacked and well preserved in their mahogany bookcases, dimmed lights, a cup of tea with some honey sat upon the Chesterfield desk. With the green leather decorum. Whilst this scent leans heavily masculine to my nose, it’s not the overbearing spicy kind. The sweetness of the honey balances it, but it’s a slippery slope. It’s a beauty, for sure. One that can be worn by the 30 something year old man that’s making a career for himself, as well as his feminine counterpart. In terms of longevity, on my skin it performs way better than Tom Ford. This one can go for well over 6 hours. TF lasts all but 4 hours, also the vanilla in Tom Ford is something that doesn’t appeal to me, I think the honey is a less generic choice for a sweeter balance to the scale. Which is funny, as I usually despise all honey-related perfumes.

The opening to my nose is reminiscent of Spicebomb but slowly fades into Tobacco Vanille around the 1-hour mark. I have both Tobacco Vanille from 2013 and 2020 and Tabac Rouge leans a bit more to the newer releases of Tobacco Vanille. There's a bit of freshness in the background that combines with the spicy vanilla that makes it a tad more wearable year-round. You can't beat this for the fall/winter. It literally smells like Christmas and is loved by just about everyone. You can definitely wear this with a sweatshirt and sweatpants but it's geared more towards dress casual. I get around 6-8 hours of longevity and 1-2 hours of projection. There is this fascinating scent bubble it creates and if you're close enough to someone, they will talk to you about it :) Easy blind-buy. 4-6 sprays max will do the trick. Cheers!

Well, this has been on my list of must tries for far too long. My decant arrived this morning and I couldn't wait to savour the potent honeyed tobacco. It makes me think of my Grandad and his Gold Block pipe tobacco. I had to live with my Grandparents for a year after a family tragedy. I was about 6 and I bonded with both very strongly. Smells were already very important to me. The tobacco is strong even though sweetened by honey and tonka. I think it's the ginger note that gives an edge and power to the tobacco. I see why folk liken it to TF Tobacco Vanille but it's the ginger and powder notes that separate them. Tabac Rouge has more fire in its belly and would be perfect on my fella. Some ladies might find this a tad masculine. TF TV is much more smooth and cultivated. Moderate sillage with great longevity.

Tabac Rouge is an absolute charisma. It opens with herby-spicy tobacco and honey along with the other listed notes while the tobacco note is just impeccably refined (even more than Tobacco Vanille) and classy. Does tobacco note stick it out strongly to the end? No, it is gradually subdued (not gone) once it gets to the drydown or even around the mid-phase, so my warning is that you've gotta love honey note as it seems to be consistently dominant here. Most of the time, honey does not turn animalic / faecal on my skin, so I cannot comment on that. However, I would describe it as smooth, tranquil, fluid-like, almost resinous, not gourmand. The waft of this is just beautiful. I got a compliment right after the first wearing. Definitely going to be my next purchase :-). P.S. The packaging is so fine.

Very similar to Tom Ford’s TV, if you love TV you will most certainly love this as well. The main difference here is the absence of vanilla and the inclusion of honey. The honey is a strong influence in the fragrance, giving it a tobacco leaf infused with honey vibe. There’s a faint amount of spice thanks to the ginger, but you have to search for it. I find TV to be a lot more denser and spicier, so for me TV is still ahead, but only by a nose. For the money, this blows TV out of the water. So does one make the other redundant. To me no, because Tabac is heavy in honey and gives enough of a different vibe for me. Many might find one or the other redundant, dependent on which one you prefer. It’s closer to TV a couple of hours into the dry down as the honey looses its potency. Great fragrance!

This has recently launched its way to one of my very favorite fragrances. The comparisons between this and Tobacco Vanille have been beaten in pretty hard, so I'll try to spare too many of them: Tabac Rouge shares the same wonderful tobacco note as TV, and a general similarity, but side-by-side they are noticeably different. Phaedon's creation is much less "in your face" in the opening, and while there is some sweet (honey) spiciness, it is not as syrupy. Overall I prefer TR as the whole composition is much more my style. This is a daily driver, and while longevity and projection are both great, it is not an attention whore. Again, the tobacco note is simply sublime, and everything else that comes with it only adds to the appeal. Phaedon hit it out of the park with this one.

I hate when people call this fragrance a dupe of Tobacco Vanille. Quite simply put, it’s much better and cheaper than the aforementioned fragrance. It opens with a very warm mix of spices—tobacco, cinnamon, ginger, and they’re all mixed very well. The tobacco leaf is strong but classy, the cinnamon sharp but smooth, and the ginger is hidden in the mélange. You feel these as they enter through your nose and travel to the back of your throat. The dry down is stupendously pleasant as well; the spices give way to a very raw, animalic honey that is very sweet but not overwhelming. Behind the honey is a very powdery and subtle musk. This fragrance is great for every season but suited best for the colder months. My personal favorite and an absolute gem. 9.4/10

It's very similar to Tobacco Vanille. I get a cherry & dried fruit opening that settles into a strong tobacco with honey. Good value, these Phaedon's are very reasonably priced and if I didn't already own TV I would certainly consider this stuff as an alternative for sure. Don't get me wrong it isn't exactly the same eg: No vanilla, prominent honey but somehow not as sweet (probably due to the lack of vanilla)and a more resinous quality all of which give a moderately different character especially in the drydown and I've tried them side by side. Truth is I don't like this or TV as much as I used to and in truth rarely wear the Tom Ford so I'd opt for something else from Phaedon, like the majestic Rouge Avignon.

Possibly my favorite gourmand-esque scent. It’s not any specific desert, but you smell delectable beyond imagine. It’s heavy on the cinnamon, but leans into the sweet side instead of smelling like a pure extract. It’s not complex in the pronunciation of other notes in neither the top nor base. You get the sweetness of the honey to tone down would could be an abrasive cinnamon, a full benzoin bade with powdery light musk to fill the space. A ever so slightly present ginger tang to give it a slight edge....this is easily a signature scent for me. It would work best during fall, as it gives the feel of a warm latte with cream cashmere—but with a duality that could be used for day or night. J’adore xo

Sweet honeyed tobacco. Like fall in a bottle to me. I enjoy pipe tobacco from time to time and this captures the scent of real tobacco very well. It does strongly resemble Tobacco Vanille, but I find this slightly more wearable since it isn't as dense as TV. Interestingly, I haven't had a lot of compliments outside of "oh you smell nice" or similar middling ones. Seems tobacco-heavy/focused scents tend to do better with men than women? Not sure if that's just my experience. I get solid longevity (6-8 hours) on my skin and it projects well for much of that time. A 9.0/10 for me. If you want Tobacco Vanille for a lot less money (but still fairly expensive around $150) TR is your best bet.

Yes, it smells like TV, but I prefer this one more. It's less spicy, more honeyed in a musky/warm/animalic way that feels positively alive. I like how it's not a beast of a performer either, it's my own preference to have my scents moderate. I don't need my scent to announce that I'm here. Tabac Rouge also feels less rough, more well blended, which lends to the playdough or candle-like feeling, which I dislike out of the nozzle but smells great on skin. I dislike saying one is better than the other as it is all up to preference, but I prefer Tabac Rouge. It's more honeyed on my skin (like, 80% honey and subtle spices, 20% tobacco), less powerfully spicy and more femininte to me than TV.

This is exceptional. On my skin there are very few differences between this and TV, scent-wise at least. This isnt as monstrously big as TV but i have found longevity to be as good as TV. comparisons over.. This is such a warm and inviting fragrance, not as honey-heavy to my nose as others. Fragances like l'envol edp by cartier are what i would consider honey-forward fragrances and this isn't nearly as forward in that respect. The excellent performance means the deep drydown can be experienced, with a very softly-spiced resinous glow. Will be replacing 5 or 6 bottles in my collection which do something similar, none as good as this.

First and the most prominent note here is definitely cinnamon. This perfume smells like a huge mug of Christmas punch! I get some tobacco here with cinnamon, honey, and just a hint of sharp ginger. Very pleasant fragrance. I noticed that cinnamon + honey give me cherry sometimes, this was the case with Crimson Rocks by Amouage. I also can smell some cloves. No powder at all. I'd say Phaedon Tabac Rouge smells like pipe tobacco soaked in a thickened cherry liquor. It is very rich in flavor, sweet (but not cloying), and morish. If you love honey fragrances I don't see any reasons why this one wouldn't be a safe blind buy.

Let's just say if I could only own one scent and it was between this and tobacco vanille, I would honestly choose this and it has nothing to do with this being less expensive, it's strictly the smell it produces. I think I like the honey instead of vanilla mix with tobacco better. It's super high quality and lasts forever. I don't know what it is in tobacco vanille, but there's a note that I don't like and when it comes to high price niche fragrance s, I don't settle for anything. I love it then I buy it. With this fragrance, I love it all. Scent 9/10 Longevity 9/10 Projection 9/10 Overall 9/10

Tabac Rouge is one of the best pipe tobacco perfumes out there, quite similar to Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille, but not exactly same. When you look closely you can see vanilla note is absent in TR where vanilla is very noticeable in TV, but still overall feel is quite similar. TV is thick, dense and very heavy while TR is airy, transparent and light (but not weak), I prefer TR to TV. It's not very complex, not much development over the time. Performance is great, 10+ hours with soild projection. If you like pipe tobacco perfumes then this is a safe blind buy.

lol. I love the "discussions" around this one. I have been wearing this about a year now, so I will add my perspective: Similar to TFTV, SIMILAR, not the same as ... but different enough to own both. The sweetness in TR comes more from honey, whereas in TV it comes from a heavy Vanilla. I do find TR to be "lighter", but in the end, start to finish, both are heavy sweet tobacco frags. My advice: Buy TR first, since it is relatively cheaper. If you love, and can afford TFTV, add it to your collection, otherwise, the TR should satisfy your cravings.

Where to begin ... Recently received this from Luckyscent as a blindbuy. Wow. I am so impressed. Anyone who says this does not at least smell SIMILAR to TF Tobacco Vanille is sniffing paint. This is Tobacco HONEY if you will. The staying power, Sillage and ingenuity are all there. This smells rich, deep, dark and natural. Bourbon soaked Honey and ginger brought to life in an old tobacco pipe. This is great stuff. Not going to replace my Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille, but its definitely a keeper and a true winner. Nighttime use (almost exclusively...)

Ok, I have to say, this is a very seductive wonderful fragrance. However, I always felt it was missing something, it was thirsty for couple more ingredients. Judge me as much as you want, but I've been using it together with Etro Messe de Minuit and it just transports me to wonderful imaginary places from 1001 Arabian nights ferry tales to the time of mummy embalming in ancient Egypt. It's also great by itself, but if you own Messe de Minuit by Etro, which has Frankincense inside, just try it together with Tabac Rouge, you won't regret it.

After my second testing of this liquid I am starting to really appreciate it more than my Tobacco Vanille. It is definitely more wearable than TV. I also get a vibe of Tea for Two by L'Artisan. Its a compliment waiting to happen and perfect for holiday wear and winter time in general. If I were to guess how much this liquid smelled like both of the other concoctions, I would say 1/3 T42 and 2/3 TV. To me this is the best one of the line. Let me be clear....I do not care for Tea for Two, but the way this is mixed it is really nice....

Tobacco Vanille? Something must be wrong with your nose. This is a lot simpler and honestly I prefer it over TV. Smells like christmas gingerbread with honey with drinkable qualities like honey green tea. It's definitely gourmand, not overpowering but not weak either. The honey smells very authentic and natural and compared to many other gourmand honey scents this one isn't really that sweet to my nose. It's sweet but in a very enjoyable way. Not overpowering at all. Easy love. Linear, heavy sillage and long lasting.

Doesn't work well in the heat, tropical country aware, sample first. On my skin, just 4-6 hours then completely gone, projection is moderate, within an arm in first 2 hours, then sits closer to the skin and became skin scent. After a few testings, it has grown on me a lot, imho, the scent itself is pure heaven, leaning towards gourmand on the dry-down, sweet, spicy. So I accepted the performance did not met with my expectation. The dry-down reminds me of Parfums De Marly - Oajan directly!!!

Stunning! Absolutely stunning. Picture Tobacco Vanille with a dollop of honey and cinnamon on top. Its not too in-your-face, and it's a little less mature than TV. This is perfection bottled for me, the Holy Grail of fragrance. It smells natural, too, which is a huge plus for me. I can smell each and every note jumping out at me in a symphony of sweetness and richness. Ordered a FB as soon as the sample hit my skin. Love at first sniff!

I’ve raved about this and how I think this is better the TF TV imho. I just received a free sample bringing back the smell and memories so I can now more succinctly recall the difference. This is smoother and linear - ignoring the note table a first impression is of a creamier Vanilla with slightly damp tobacco and maybe a sprinkle of tea. Herod is still my go to but I still think this is the best value out of the three.

This is like a cozy night in a snowy winter. Spicy cinnamon and sweet honey are not a particularly unique combination, but the way they are blended with the ginger and the benzoin makes it stand out from the crowd as my warm winter scent. This is one of the longest-lasting perfumes I have ever tried, I could smell this well over 10, 11 hours of putting it on. It's amazing, perfectly unisex and such a gorgeous scent.

Secondary review: This stuff lasts INFINITY x INFINITY! Wow, i can smell it with virtually every inhale!! No olfactory fatigue happening, and 6 hours into the day and it's nearly as strong as when i applied it. This stuff is kinda like 70% Tobacco Vanille and about 30% or less of Pure Havane. Amazing tobacco fragrance, one of the best in my opinion. SO in love. Too bad this stuff is semi-hard to find.

Sweet honey and unlit pipe tobacco-leaf fragrance. Similar to Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille but with less vanilla and more honey. Initially there is a prominent benzoin note but it quickly dries down into a more subtle/background benzoin/ginger note. This is a stunning fragrance and is probably the closest I have come to smelling that sweet aromatic unlit pipe-tobacco that I have been looking for!! 9/10

This is a perfume bottle that belongs to the top of tobacco scents. Combining cinnamon and medicinal herbs, honey to create a strong aroma of tobacco. The scent is extremely pleasant and quite relaxing. Radiation is also extremely good, sticking to my skin for over 12 hours and emits strong scent within the first 5.6 hours. A cigarette should be made for tobacco lovers.

Am I the only one who gets an impression of bubbly ginger soda? I tested this and Tobacco Vanille at the same time and at the risk of sounding pretentious, they don't smell the same at all. I like this so much more. TV has more of a syrupy, heavy quality. This has more sparkle and less obvious sweetness. I can't wait to break this baby out this winter.

This is what Sherlock Holmes would smell like. I used to roll my own cigarettes back when I was a smoker. Good tobacco isn't dry like in pre-rolled cigarettes, but soft, wet and dark and smells exactly like Tabac Rouge. This is one of a few fragrances that I not only really like but that I also want to smell like, because it's very close to my heart.

Such a rich beautiful fragrance. Smells sweet, warm, and thic. Vanilla and honey. It smells exactly like Tobacco Vanille by Tom ford. However the quality is better and it's much less in your face sugary sweet. TV is very sweet and a tad bit too much for a man. Tabac Rouge is half the price for double the amount for superior quality. Great stuff here!

This scent smells so good and so sophisticated it makes me want to cry. The opening is beautiful turkish tobacco and spice. I imagine an old middle eastern shop full of old books and spicy honey tobacco. Wise men are smoking and contemplating finer things. This is beautiful and sophisticated, and very reminiscent of tom fords tobacco vanille.

Just my take, but TV is an insecure brick screaming it's presence, an initial 'Wow!', for me is replaced soon enough by, 'I get it, calm down'. On the other hand, I love Tabac Rouge, it invites, it doesn't intrude, it is rich and warm enough as it is, it doesn't need to dominate, maybe it's Canada, I don't know, never been there.

This is a very nice fragrance. Starts of with a Barenjager soaked dryb tobacco, then dies down to a lit, vanilla scented pipe tobacco. It is very sticky, heavy and radiates warmth. So use it sparingly because it is thick. Wonderful fragrance over all. Good for fall season when sipping a latte or going to a steak house

Yes I absolutely love it... Just slightly less than TV 😂. The Tom Ford is ever so slightly spicier, more emphasis on cloves and dried fruit to me. Also, I found that the difference in performance here is pretty slight. If anything TV will get noticed more easily, but both are 10h+ longevity.
