Fresh Cream Soft Suede

Cozy, leathery , boozy and vanilla-ey. These are the words/feels i would describe this perfume as . I think this is a more mature version of the warm cashmere scent but it still has that sharp sweetness with that added suede/leather note which makes it unique . I really like this and love to layer with other vanilla scents.

At first sniff, I let out a sigh that seemed to reverberate throughout the house. Back in the early 90's, when Bath and Body Works was catching flame, and their now iconic scents were still well crafted novelties, they released a line called Vanilla Delights. These cologne bottles were made from brushed aluminum, in an attempt to validate their "Heartland" era, and there were a variety of vanilla scents. One was called Vanilla Musk, but there were others: Vanilla Sherbet, Vanilla Mocha, Vanilla Berry, and Vanilla Bean. I believe there was also a Vanilla Tobacco, but after extensive research online, found nothing but record of Vanilla Sherbet and Vanilla Musk. Everything else about this line seems to be expunged; lost into the ether. I will tell you, in the 1994 I received all of them one Christmas, in a gift pack, and have managed to even pass some on to my daughter. Little did I know I was holding a collector's item! However much love I still have for those memories, I can personally explain why Vanilla Sherbet still remains available to purchase. It wasn't great. Who could have anticipated a kiwi, pear, vanilla experiment would not catch on?! I realize this is the long way around the tree, because you are reading this to learn about Fresh Cream Soft Suede, and not the ramblings of a later-aged woman. (Let's connect the dots and see why that indoor sigh was so prophetic.) This stuff takes me back to those golden days of Midwest country chic, and the scents that Bath and Body Works produced were actually quite phenomenal! Philosophy has managed that skilled, yet casually approachable scent with this number. Top notes are sweet and boozy. And while I'm not much of a fan of smelling like I've been drinking, here it works, thanks to laconically applied caramel and musk. Milky sweet vanilla also helps to transform this scent beyond cliche. I'm reminded of those colognes from my youth, and a smile oozes across my face. The structure is linear, it appears legible, maybe even a bit insignificant. I shrug thinking the moment has gone, and then, like an accordion expanding out, the heart brings a smoky, teetering on incense like note, along with a surprising tangy leather. Ah, true nostalgia! Some sort of sorcery contorts this compositional moment into a sticky tobacco vanilla. I feel like I was finally allowed in the parlor with the men, drinking aside fruity floral notes of tobacco burnt variously, and with the utmost refinement. Final stages rest easy with an amber musk, and day dreams of my adolescence. So nicely done Philosophy! This fragrance won't change the world, or influence any r/evolution within its field. It will, however, feel comfortably confident, yet soft enough to cuddle with. I don't mind that the longevity is moderate; I really enjoy reapplying through out the day - for the opening chords, if for nothing else. Besides, cutting the tune periodically, creates a choir's round, which I indulged in today, much to my enjoyment. Ultimately a skin scent, it requires your permission for others to truly experience the nuances it conjures, and isn't that the true mark of class? Remaining aloof, defined by your own discretion.

I love this enough that I have a back up bottle! I discovered this only recently after coming across Fresh Cream Warm Cashmere. The two scents are pretty similar, but just like you’d expect this one has a soft suede accord. I love it. I don’t get screeching tires or melted rubber thankfully! I’m happy to report that to my nose this is a vanilla with creamy soft suede. I don’t find this to be lactonic at all, but the notes are blended in a “creamy” fashion. There are nuances of whiskey and caramel woods all the while smelling sweet and fresh in a white musk clean skin, but better kind of way. :) It is incredibly refreshing to be able to enjoy a fragrance that is so affordable. I find it lasts a few hours and is cheap enough that touch up sprays are fun!

August 2020 Finally! This came out in 2018 so congrats, Fragrantica, on getting your head out of the sand :P This is the second flanker to the pillar - Fresh Cream - and probably my favorite of the line. It opens with the Suede accord which comes across as Rubber. Screech. Yes, it's more rubbery than the "leather" accord in Bulgari Black. But soon, the Whiskey, and then, the Vanilla/Caramel comes over and it's really delicious. I go back and forth and whether that screeching Rubber is worth having to wait thru for that drydown. I think so but YMMV. If you want something similiar but w/o the 'suede', I highly recommend Whiskey Noir by UO Gourmand line. It has the same Whiskey, Vanilla, and Amber but wirthout the "suede".

If you are familiar with Fresh Cream Warm Cashmere, just delete the fake butter note that smells like a Buttered Popcorn Jelly Belly and substitute musk and whiskey, and you get Fresh Cream Soft Suede. A pretty nice combo! A rather like this flanker of the original Fresh Cream. Of the Philosophy Fresh Cream line, my preferences: 1) Fresh Cream (nice), Fresh Cream Soft Suede (also nice), Fresh Cream Warm Cashmere (don't like at all, smells synthetic). I love Philosophy products and own (the original, plain) Fresh Cream and Snow Angel perfumes and enjoy those. The original Fresh Cream bears some similarity to the Soft Suede, but Soft Suede has more musk and complexity, and less sweetness.

I'd rate this a 6/10 - it's a very sweet, edible vanilla, almost a bit sickly for my taste. I don't get the leather/suede or whiskey notes but it's definitely a warm, caramel-y vanilla perfume. A little basic but a nice scent overall, very heavy on the caramel and vanilla. I could see this being a good base perfume to layer with others though! After about 3 hours it lays very closely to the skin, but I could still get little hints of it here and there without pressing my nose to the skin. If you like the Sol de Janeiro Brazilian 62 perfume but want a little more maturity/warmth without any heaviness, this would be a good perfume for you.

I actually really like this. At first, it was just okay, but after having some time to sit, I can’t seem to get enough. This is sweet, creamy vanilla with a touch of whipped cream and caramel. Suede and whisky is prominent to my nose as well but it’s done in the most feminine way possible. I also get slight hints of amber and musk here and there. I personally find this feminine leaning and very sweet but the boozy notes mixed with suede gives a beautiful depth.

the suede comes off like rubber. after a couple of minutes, it smells like raw cake batter. it’s sweet, but not the typical sweet like pink sugar or prada candy. the vanilla in this smells like pure vanilla extract. this is probably the most gourmand smelling gourmand perfume i’ve ever smelled lol. literally smells like you rubbed vanilla extract on yourself.

You’re eating browned butter caramel in your coolest suede jacket. You decide to add some caramel into a cup of black coffee. That’s Fresh Cream Soft Suede

I love Fresh Cream Warm Cashmere so I grabbed a small 15ml bottle of this on Mercari to try. It's okay. Mix:Bar's Vanilla Bourbon is a better version of this without the weird rubber note. Not to mention Vanilla Bourbon is $20 for 50ml in a fancier bottle and not discontinued. After the drydown the base noticeably reminds me of the original Fresh Cream, which I have to say I don't get with Warm Cashmere, despite it also being a flanker. The thing is, I hate Fresh Cream LOL, so this is a pass for me.

I've had this one for a while now and it's my least favorite among the three. I don't get any whiskey or amber, which is odd, bc my skin usually amplifies amber. On me it smells like the suede lining of my purse, just a bit creamy and musky, like a musty paper smell. It's a shame too, bc I have the body cloud cream that came with it. I'm using the cream bc I love the consistency, just layering a stronger vanilla centric frag with it.

It’s finally listed, thank you Fragrantica! I love this scent and much prefer it to the OG. Milky, sweet, boozy, smoky.... reminds me of perfectly roasted marshmallows, yum!

This one alone smells a little like old spilled milk on a suede jacket.

This is a live review after a blind buy. Nowhere on the notes is 'massive pile of burnt tyres', but it should be. For the first 10 mins that is ALL I got. It's intense and nauseating. Whatever this settles down to, I can't imagine it's worth going through the tyre fire part of the wear. I can now (15 mins in) smell some warmth and sweetness coming through, but still a loud note of burning rubber. Nope, it's no good, 30 mins in and I've had to scrub it off! Lordy be this is a negative review, so I'll make it personal - it may just be my skin chemistry and whatever is 'underneath' the post-apocalyptic ghastliness is very nice. It reminds me of Pacifica Island Vanilla, which is not a straight 'my first perfume' vanilla, there's a touch of spice there, but I can't really settle within that warmth because of the aforementioned horrific overtones of garage dumpster fire. Has anyone ever been to Jorvik Viking Centre in York UK? Smells a bit like that... ;)

Tested this out after a shower and when going to bed. My boyfriend told me I smelled like spoiled milk or baby vomit. I get the same vibe as well. All the fresh cream line gives me a spoiled milk kind of vibe.. May just be my skin chemistry. I will be reselling this one just like the others.

I love the Fresh Cream so I bought a 15 ml size in this but I hated this! It smells really masculine! I had to bin it immediately.

It's basically a woody Fresh Cream (my 6 year old says it smells like bacon... I can see how he would get that... like a candied bacon almost). Pretty unisex IMO. Kinda reminds me of a VERY toned down version of Replica By the Fireplace. I blind bought it out of curiosity because I own Fresh Cream Warm Cashmere and have used up a 15 ml of Fresh Cream. It's not that it isn't a nice scent, but it's my least favorite out of the 3. Because all 3 only last an hour or so on me I really only find myself using these when I'm looking for something cozy but really don't want to commit to a scent for the full day. Cozy scents for me are things like: Fresh Cream, Replica Coffee Break, A. Grande REM and Banana Republic Dark Cherry & Amber. I guess the wood just throws off my vibe.

An easy warm, suede, boozy and cozy vanilla. Definitely a scent I can wear to bed or just lazying around the house. First initial spray reminded me of BBW Warm Sugar Vanilla and high school (yikes) but as the dry down settled, you can notice the suede/slightly rubbery accord which I found makes it (slightly) more mature and unisex. After 5 hours, I still smelled it on my skin and clothes but I had to overspray as its a nice, close skin scent. Not that great of a silage. I got a 4 oz for $28 at Marshall's so check your local one as thats such an amazing deal! They had a good amount in stock at mine.

I call this one "udders up", because it's the entire cow, from the milk-filled udders all the way to the suede exterior. And I guess there is a ton of cotton candy and vanilla ice cream nearby as well. Perhaps this cow is having a grand time winning her blue medal at the county fair. Sometimes when I spray it, I am hit with a saccharine and oddly specific scent that evokes street vendors selling heated and candied nuts/coconuts. When I smell that specifically in it, I no longer want to wear it, but even then it's very much useful as a scent experience, just not an accessory, but that's fine by me.

I just love this~ I have a lot of the Philosophys, & this is one of the best! I might like Original Fresh Cream a tiny bit better, but these & Fresh Cream Warm Cashmere are all amazing. This type of scent is something not many "Well known brands" do, so keep up the good work Philosophy!!! I have over 500 in my insane collection, & I am downsizing. Blind bought this for a tenner so not upset but it smells like a dentist glove on my skin. Also has that artificial sweetness that wouldn't have been bad if it was with suede and vanilla but with rubber its a no from me. Imagine those jelly beans you get that have gross flavours like snot, grass, rotten egg etc but the flavour is dentist so that sickly sweetness with elasticy rubber behind it - the way you think that would taste is how this smells.

When I sprayed this on paper I immediately smelt the mask used for anaesthetic at the dentist - STRONG rubber that made me feel like I was getting teeth drilled! Fortunately, I was brave enough to spray this on my skin, where it is actually quite lovely. I don't catch the rubber note at all, it is very much a vanilla cupcake smell. I don't think it's for everyone, but it was a surprise enjoyment for me.

rubber/car tire smell on initial spray. For me disappears after about a minute or less & leaves a leathery, creamy & warm caramel, vanilla scent that’s slightly boozy. Wish the leather was a bit less because that’s what’s causing the initial rubber note. excited to wear this out & hear other opinions. My mom says it smells delicious ✨🍪

I’m not really into Philosophy fragrances in general, but this is a cut above. You do have to get past the rubbing alcohol/car fire opening, but it’s quick. The rest is just what you expect. Boozy suede, vanilla milk, and burnt sugar. It’s sweet with a very little edge. Easy to get along with, but not insipid. Worth a try!

this smells so bad, i bought the soft suede on accident when i meant to buy the warm cashmere version, and i really do not like this one
