Añoranza

Very nice floral fragrance. A bit sharp, but I tend to like those. I think I really get the mariposa lily because it smells a lot like a fusion of white lily and lily-of-the-valley, giving it that sharpness I mentioned. At first it does have an almost coconutty creaminess about it, but I wouldn't go so far as to say it actually smells like coconut. Reminds me a bit of Malibu rum in a way. And this quality dies down in the heart to the point where I primarily get just flowers. It's an odd opening, as there is a masculinity about it, yet it's very androgynous. But in time, I find it more classically feminine as the floral stands out so much. I don't find this fragrance sweet whatsoever. They mention "smoky leathery notes", and they are there in a subtle way. This is by no means a leather nor smoky fragrance. No campfires here. Not even a beach bonfire. It's more like facets that steer the direction of the floral. Like rather than adding benzoin or something sweet and creamy, the flower is anchored by a vetiver tang that goes a little earthy/leathery. But again, it's extremely subtle. The description also mentions a salty quality, and I do get that to some degree. The fragrance overall is that of an exotic, bright, sharp floral. Very uplifting, very classy, and thankfully not full of Cuban clichés (i.e. tobacco). I think it's very well done and would wear nicely on a balmy summer night.

Anoranza does not smell like the notes. I expected more dirty sweetness given the coffee, rum, and vetiver. Instead, it is a sea-salted (surprisingly oceanic saline) fresh, clean jasmine with a distinct fresh/live mint. It's relatively unique among other similar salty fresh perfumes released for women recently given that deliciously green mint note and non-calone based ocean freshness. I do like it, but I wish it had some heavier base notes.

This is a fresh, coconut white floral. I was surprised I liked it as much as I did, considering that I am not much of a white floral person. It was nice, but there are more exciting and interesting perfumes out there.

I'm on the fence with this one. Añoranza is a nice, easy-to-wear white floral, though it's not quite what I expected. It's beachier than the notes suggest, and there's a distinct coconut quality to it - I don't know if I'm picking up actual coconut or a trick of the note combinations, but it's strongly reminiscent of it. I don't get rum, although there is a touch of sweetness, and very little of the coffee note, which is what initially piqued my interest. What I do enjoy is how the mint cuts through and nicely offsets the milky florals, and I wish the earthier vetiver and coffee notes were amped up as it's sort of unbalanced to my nose. As it is, it's really not my style - it feels sort of thin and "top heavy" but lacking in depth and roundedness. The combination of sharpness and creaminess isn't one I love on my skin. But it's probably a serviceable resort-style scent, and I'll always give Phlur credit for its talent for replicating the style of popular fragrances with more transparent ingredients.

Añoranza could probably be considered a straight-up white floral, which few people can pull off. But I really loved it, and amazingly, I pulled it off -- white florals tend to be rottingly sweet on my skin. I'm also impressed with my first experience with Phlur. Many of the "clean" perfumes I've tried have been poorly balanced and smell very different in the bottle than they do on my skin. Añoranza retains its original essence. When I first sprayed it on, I was overwhelmed by the aroma of what I first presumed was alcohol; in actuality, it was mint, which instantly tempered the wedding-cake sweetness of the jasmine (the jasmine smells more like gardenia to my nose). Then there is the conflagration of the other notes, which, when added to the mix, create something that's intoxicating and very unusual. This fragrance is supposed to "conjure(s) the Havana that exists only in a dream". Actually, it reminded me more of Panama City, but other than that, the perfumers manage to nail the smell of Central America city square almost exactly. When you traipse around all day in Havana (or Panama City), your clothing, hair, and general person soak in a melange of odors: hot coffee, fine rum, cane sugar, coconut bread, unsmoked cigars, old leather, botanical gardens, and street air. It's like a halo, or an aura, and it's distinctly un-American, reminding you that you're far from home. Mix that melange with muted white florals, and that's Añoranza. I'm not sure what occasion this perfume is appropriate for, but my initial impression was that I'd love to smell this on a 40+ bride or a woman getting married for the 2nd, 3rd, etc. time.

I received Añoranza as part of my sample package along with Siano and Moab (intense dislike, unfortunately). I like Añoranza and it definitely hits all the notes it describes- jasmine, mint, rum, with tuberose and subtle coffee dry down. You definitely need to be a white floral fan, but it also is a bit more complex due to its other notes. My only issue is that the longevity is somewhat lacking for my preference, it lasted around two-three hours for me. However, Siano by contrast lasts for several hours. Overall, I'd recommend it if you're looking for a fresh, crisp white floral forward scent that's more spring/summer. This is not something I would buy a full bottle of as it's not my style, but I can appreciate its quality. I think it's a bit on the mature side for me.

Between this and Moab (I know - what a jump) - my very favorite Phlur scents. Discontinued and since being sold, I believe the perfumes have gone mainstream and smell like everyone else. I can't write a fancy review with top notes and all, but I can say that this perfume is amazing. I cannot pin any single note that sticks out for me, but the after a spray, I'm enveloped in nothing but happiness. If anyone has bottles for sale - PLEASE - let me know.

I wanted to love this but it’s just too “something”, too coconuty, too intense. There are no coconut notes listed, surprisingly, but all I smell is coconut and pineapple. It’s like a rum drink that is way too sweet, too boozy and too much. That said, I think many of my friends would love this scent as it’s similar to many mainstream fragrances on the market, and the silage is great! 8 hours and going strong. Which is fantastic if you love the scent.

Reminds me a little of a beachier Gucci Bloom, and I would buy a bottle if I saw a deal. Phlur should get credit for not testing on animals. Creamy white-flower tuberose but not sickly sweet like some, also a little musk on the ending. There is a fresh edge to it, and I find it summery. Phlur intends it to remind us of Cuba, where I have never been. Does Cuba smell like this? If so, wow! Is the pronunciation AHN-your-AHN-za?

This is a strong and sharp scent right from the very first spray. I get a white floral bouquet with a lily of the valley scent which seems better suited for a mature woman. It stays that way for about 3 hours before it settles down but even then it still seems like an astringent floral aroma.

If you like white floral with coconut you will probably enjoy this. It’s easy to wear and a nice scent. I definitely get some jasmine and also something coconutty. I don’t think I get any mint or rum, I’ll have to try a few more times to be sure. I’m glad I have it though.
