Moab

I've had a bottle of this stashed in my cabinet forever, and had forgotten to do a proper review. I snagged it a couple years ago, when I suspected PHLUR was going to discontinue it (they did). I'm so glad I got it, and I have this gorgeous vintage opaque white square with this fabulous juice. I wrote a reference to this fragrance in my notes, "another one wears the dust". And it's true; the woody, sandy, resinous and solar elements of this perfectly capture the vibe of the dusty, windy and arid southwest. We're talking red rocks, sinewy juniper roots and unrelenting sunshine. It's deeply earthy, with cedar oil and two resinous botanicals (gummy and amber). Vibrantly spicy with long pepper and clove. Subtly sweet with floral elements and an almost vanilla-like richness. Its color is a deep and dark amber. I don't often wear it, but I love to take the cap off and inhale deeply. I get such a nostalgic resonance! It's adventurous, but grounding. A far cry from anything I typically wear every day, but something about it has always struck me. I maintain that this fragrance was one of PHLUR's original best, and their holistic marketing for it was wonderful. Even their Spotify playlist captured the essence of a road trip through rugged Utah. Happy to have this bottle of beautiful ambery juice.

I didn't expect to like Moab, as I usually stick to warm musk scents, but I love it. I purchased a sampler expecting to really fall for Hepcat, but the warm, sunny spice of Moab became my summer fragrance. When first applying, the spice is a bit overwhelming - not in a warm way but more like pepper. It slowly fades and evolves into a scent that is a sun-washed version of your own skin. It has the woody notes I like, but as if the wood had been left out on a dry, desert afternoon. It's clean, without being astringent or overwhelmingly citrus-y. I don't generally like clean, citrus, or aqua-type fragrances, and this didn't fall within that category for me. It smells like nothing else I've worn, and I don't have the ability to articulate exactly what it smells like. Just that it smells like summer, in the desert, without sweat.

I wonder if those posting extremely bad reviews also hate Tauer's LADDM and Kirk.'s Grad Soir. Although they are different, they produce a similar vibe. This one's fairly simple - wood and spices. And, it's VERY good. Not being sure what sun and sand smells like, I can't really evaluate their presence in this fragrance. This is a great deal for the price. The fragrance is outstanding (if you like wood and spices), the sillage is fantastic, and it lasts forever. The bottle is beautiful in its simplicity: a white cube with a round MAGNETIC top. And, it's very heavy. Phlur's marketing and customer service is second to none. MOAB may not be your cup of tea, but give them a try. As has been stated before, buy the samples and the cost is deducted from your first purchase.

I really love this stuff. I probably would have never found it if some online perfume seller hadn't included a free sample of it with an order for something else. I could barely wait to buy a bottle. I don't find it as strong as other reviewers seem to. But you have to like woodsy scents. It's in the Anais Anais, Cerrutti 1881 mode, fragrances I've always loved. Moab is nowhere as floral as they are, but the vibe is sort of the same. A relatively light spicy woodsy fragrance. Nothing as strong as a Tom Ford fragrance, or any oud. It seems to last at least 6-8 hours on me. I'm a 72-year-old woman who considers this a unisex fragrance. But then, I wear nearly anything.

Truly devastated that this perfume was discontinued! In my mind this is the perfect unisex perfume. It’s warm and spicy without the cloying sweetness of a gourmand. Some undertones of incense or palo santo - high desert of dreams! Absolutely LOVE this fragrance!

Lovely fragrance for the fall and winter. Nice dusty, caramel, apple, nutmeg, woody and spicy. Gourmand lovers will really dig this one.

I really enjoy this fragrance. Has a "holiday" feel to it. On my skin it smells of Big Red (cinnamon) chewing gum.

I ordered six samples of Phlur fragrances and this is the only one that stood out to me as unique. I really enjoy the underlying dryness of the fragrance -- like dry wood or dry sand. However, I think they missed the mark by adding vanilla, as that is certainly not a desert plant, and I'm also picking up cinnamon or clove. Instead, I wish they had used the plant scents I associate with dry climates -- juniper or white sage for top notes, maybe Texas cedarwood -- that would have made this more evocative to me. As it is, it comes across a bit disorganized: the lovely dryness overlaid with a sweeter haze that doesn't make a lot of sense to me. That said though, I do really enjoy it, but it reminds me too much of another scent I own to purchase a FSB. (May sound crazy, but it reminds me of a dryer version of TokyoMilk Dark Novacaine.) Also, longevity on me is very poor -- basically nonexistent after 2 hours.

Man, I am so pissed to learn that Phlur discontinued this fragrance. I had a sample spray back in 2017 that I used up, then forgot to buy a full bottle when I should’ve. If I can manage to find a bottle being resold for a reasonable price, I’ll definitely throw down some cash. Moab served up spiciness in a way I enjoyed — arid and feral. Very dry, just like its namesake. Smelling this perfume made me feel like I was standing among beautiful red rocks while being wind-whipped by sand. It felt like there was a scorpion scuttling over the dunes nearby, presenting a little bit of danger to keep me on my toes as I marveled at my surroundings.

This opens up spicy, peppery, and sandy with a bite to it. I'm not sure if this is just association to hot days in the desert, but it smells a little bit like sunscreen. The middle notes come out in sweet vanilla, clove, and cinnamon that stick to your skin like candy you spilled on yourself but can't wipe away. The intense sweetness honestly made me slightly nauseous. As the scent settles down, there are hints of clove and tonka bean, still sweet like sticky fingers after eating candy on a hot day. The start was exciting, but I'm not a fan of intense sweetness in the middle notes.

This is really good. It's a lot like Siano but it dries down sweeter and less sour. Fully dry it smells almost like a pure cinnamon perfume, which works fine for me. I'm a little annoyed at the resale prices being so high but I guess that's the game you play when you want to get new in box discontinued perfumes 😜🪿

Reminds me a bit of L'Air du Desert Marocain. Having visited Moab a bunch, I think it's a good name - even though the fragrance is woody, it also has an arid red rock vibe to it. Quite interesting.

Very nice balance between spice and fresh sun drenched air. This one I like. Moderate on the saturation and room filler. I smell the cloves most I think. This one is nice.

This has a strong cinnamon element mixed with dry wood. I enjoy it a lot! To me it is very reminiscent of the desert. Glad to have finally gotten my hands on it!

LMAO!!! @mmcdonald36 I think you're confusing this with GREYLOCKE. This one is not that bad. I get a light cinnamon apple.

Cinnamon sprinkled over pencil shavings. It’s actually very nice. It’s dry and cozy.

starts out drinking absinthe next to christmas potpourri. Then a chocolate note comes in that I don't love. The tonka bean warmness comes out, and it ends up a kind of faded, sweet but not sugary vanilla. The spices make a slight return at the end, but only when my wrist was close to my face. I thought I would love this based on the notes/description, but it was kind of meh overall.

Slightly reminiscent of the CD Dune - edt. Dry, very soft spices, vanilla-y, and a little salty. Almost a skin scent.

I find this absolutely nothing like L'Air du Desert Marocain and it's cabinet of savory spices combined with sharp citrus and astringent cedar. Moab in contrast only contains sweet spices, namely cinnamon, and is markedly sweeter on the whole. It's an OK perfume if you are into a vanilla/cinnamon combo. Good sillage and longevity clocks in at 8-10 hours. I just don't get any development, only a yawn-worthy vanilla and cinnamon mixture that reminds me of a holiday candle. Nothing aobut Moab makes me think of the DESERT, only of DESSERT. With Ralf Schwieger as the nose, I was expecting at least a little bit of a wow factor. A definite try-before-you-buy. It seems like the folks who mention LDDM are male. As a woman, my skin brings out vanilla, and I personally get tons of vanilla from Moab but only minuscule amounts from LDDM. I would never think to compare the two perfumes. They are apples and oranges to me. this starts with spices and woods-the spices have a bit of sweetness...seems like cinnamon maybe (?) then i get a soft musk, wherein it becomes a spicy sweetness with musk. ok but nothing to write home about...and a bit too sweet for me personally.

These are the notes listed on the Phlur site. long pepper, clove, vanilla, jasmine and tonka bean. The clove really dominates with maybe a hint of vanilla and pepper. Nice to sample but not full bottle worthy for me.

This smelled terrible on me. It was immediately off-putting. Strong spiceyness that settled into old-lady. It might just be my skin, but I am not a fan.

I just received my sample of Moab today and while I can't find any official notes listed on their website, there is something about this that reminds me of Stephane Humbert Lucas' Mortal Skin. It took me a few minutes and a sniff through my perfume collection to pin down what this reminded me of. Definitely spicier and less aquatic, but there is something in there that reads close to it on my skin. I am not getting much of the sweetness or apple spice others seem to have gotten from this, on my skin this is far from a gourmand and leans more salt than sweet, but the dusky spicy scent of Moab is hitting a nice note for me. There is almost something about this that feels like it could even be a Perfumerie Generale fragrance. It has that blend of spice notes over something a little sweet kind of like Aomassai, although they don't smell alike. This is definitely a fragrance that I feel both sexes could wear easily. Overall this reads as a much more expensive perfume, and it has a bit more going on than the average juice you'd find at this price point in a department store. The presentation of the samples was very nice. I'm definitely going to be trying more from this brand now that I have gotten a feel for what they are putting out.

Can't believe not one other review is mentioning the "dirty" part of this frag. It unfortunately turned me off to it quickly, but on a positive note the entire rest of it is terrific. In guessing, it's the jasmine that dirty-fies it; it's what some refer to as "naughty" borderline animalic some-might-even-say borderline fecal...no one is getting that at all? I'm sure it's the jasmine. I often like jasmine but it has to be pretty specific. Gets too "organic" for me, but I get that some have a taste for it. Kinda a sexual thing, but I pretty much never like it when frags try to go sexual; just too sweaty and BO, and jasmine can take us right into BO readily. Outside of that, I liked everything else about it. I'd say it's for those who like spicy orientals with sweet vanilla dry downs. Even has a little bit of projection. I thought this was an all-natural product line but discovered it is not, so that likely explains the projection I wasn't expecting. If the BO was removed, I'd be very into it. But I can't get past the sex BO part. But I almost have even *more* trouble getting past the fact that not one other person has mentioned this component to the frag.

Although I don't believe Apple or cinnamon are listed as notes, I sense them. Kind of like a dusty Apple/cinnamon combination. On my skin there is a noticeable sweetness - the first fragrance I thought of when I smelled this, was l'air du desert marocain, although this would be a tamer version. Faint sweetness and dustiness makes for a pleasing combo - though not going to blow your mind, this would be a great year-round go-to scent. Fb purchased. Day 2 edit: Still wracking my brain trying to think of what this reminds me. Still nothing. It's a familiar smell. I'll stick with desert marocain for now - but they are only similar in their dusty/dry/semi-sweetness. Tauer's would definitely be the sweeter of the two. On a side note - this house does a two sample thingy where you pick two for $10 - then if you buy a bottle, you get $10 off. Nice! The presentation of the samples - yes, samples - is fantastic! I was really impressed with the overall quality and feel. I would highly recommend checking out their website (also very well done). 7/10

This one is unfortunately a miss for me. I ordered a sample set of 3 from this company because I love what they’re doing as far as transparency and quality ingredients, and am still hopeful one of my other two pics will be a win. This was the one I thought I would like most based on description, but it had too much cinnamon and sweetness for me, and absolutely no longevity and poor sillage. Others could only smell it on me within about an hour of spraying, and at that point it was all pepper and cinnamon, like a spice cabinet. By the time the (too sweet) middle notes came out, I could barely smell it myself. Within 3 hours I was only smelling my skin with a little sweetness washed over it, nothing interesting. By 5 hours not a trace of anything. Reminded me of Kenzo Jungle Elephant on me, which is another I wanted to like but didn’t. Just made me smell like Christmas.

I confess I didn’t ‘do’ Phlur the right way - I know their thing is to read the descriptions and listen to the playlists to get the whole feel of each scent, but I knew I wanted Moab because it was created by Ralf Schweiger, and if you tell me that AND say it’s warm spicy, just show me where to type my credit card number. First sniff and I involuntarily said ‘oh heck yeah’. Dry and soft. As picknenders said, it reminds me very strongly of something but I just can’t place it, certainly similar to LDDM but with rounder edges. Whatever it is, it’s comforting and easy to wear. Stays pretty close to the skin but I do enjoy periodically sniffing my wrist here in my aggressively air-conditioned office to imagine that I’m basking on a dune somewhere.

I really adore Phlur fragrances and everything the company stands for, but Moab was my least favorite. When I first sprayed it on, I was overwhelmed with a blast of cinnamon, ginger and pepper. Given the ad copy, I expected this to be a dry, exotic fragrance, but unfortunately, over time, Moab evolved into a simplistic vanilla-spice smell that reminded me of the cookie tray around the holidays, or perhaps a generic Christmas candle. I don't get any "desert" out of this -- but I do get a lot of "dessert". Moab's not terrible, but it is a let-down compared to the other Phlurs that I've tried and purchased. This is the only Phlur fragrance I wouldn't buy in a FB.

My body chemistry tends to project even the smallest amounts of fruit notes, so on me this is mostly dried apple and cinnamon/spice. This is also powdery in the sense of stepping into red desert dust that is fine and silky, not body powder. What keeps this from being too feminine is that the apple is more dry than sweet, and the spice is not so overwhelming as to lend itself toward a holiday candle. This is a very unique fragrance. I agree with another reviewer that this would be a fine year-round scent. It is soft enough that it likely wouldn't bother scent-sensitive people in a work environment.

I'm a big fan of Phlur's Sandara, Siano, and Hanami, but Moab is a miss for me. It's dry and aggressively spicy - clove, cinnamon, wood, and hot peppers. But then Moab's desert becomes dessert with a cloying sweetness that reminds me Cinnamon Imperials, those old-timey candies. That sweetness ruins it for me. It's loud yet non-committal. I don't know what this is supposed to evoke. For me, this is a confusing letdown.

IMO this is a what DG The one for her should have smelled like with more quality and a middle eastern twist. I was really impressed but this to me is unisex and leans feminine. I ended up giving this to my mother who liked it and had nothing like it in her growing sample collection from me. I recommend this upcoming brand and was pleasantly surprised. fair projection and 5 to 6 hours longevity.

This is the one I like best between the two I do like. Grey Locke is good if you are into vetiver, but I love Moab. Lasts over 24 hours on my skin. Fresh, lots of depth, and plenty of development. Different in a unique way. It's a fresh yet smooth peppery spicy cologne and the mix of notes is just amazing. Wearing it is a great experience. Definitely a masculine fragrance.

PHLUR IS an earth conscious perfumer . It's very nice to see an American company join the heard. Love MOAB. I'm not interested in whether or not its smells like blah blah blah. It stands alone as a great product .

Am I the only one that think this is a dead ringer for Gap Om? That’s all I can think of when I wear this. Also very similar to TF Noir pour femme and Kamla Made Amber Paste. But closest to OM.

I wanted to like this one in theory, but there's something in this one that dries down just a tiny bit sour on me. Maybe some of the spices, or an unlisted note?

I love this! It reminds me of an easier to wear Tobacco Vanilla by Tom Ford!

Sweet, A little like a Root Beer Float or Chai Latte!
