Somebody Wood

My favorite from the Phlur line-up. Phlur's scents generally don't wow me (they're fine, but not incredible), but Somebody Wood is the exception for me. Probably the best fragrance I have smelled available at Sephora. The promotional photo in the Fragram section of this page that says "SANDALWOOD AMBER MUSK SAFFRON" pretty much sums this scent up, though I think vanilla and oakmoss play major supporting roles as well here. Other than the saffron, I don't get much of the middle and top notes at all; I was surprised to see that citrus was even in this (allegedly). It's all smooth, creamy, ambery sandalwood and vanilla to me. Not too sweet, not floral or citrusy at all. A great, affordable, solid, neutral fragrance that will likely be inoffensive to most. Delightfully unisex to me, a little sweet and a lot woody, but in a lighter, sandier way that doesn't read too masculine. Wear is about 4 hours for me; that's about when I notice it's faded, but not quite completely gone. 9.5/10.

Fall and winter scent. It’s a unique bottle in my collection. I do enjoy unisex scents, and even wear a men’s fragrance every now and then, but the wood in this is unique. I agree with a previous reviewer about it being ashy, but not in a bad way. there’s a lot of true wood with the oak moss+saffron creating a warm leathery accord. my chemistry can take leather too far, but this hits the sweet spot. i firmly believe this scent is highly dependent on chemistry, and mine tends to really get along with this one— a big complement getter. Earthy, leathery, woody, deep, dark. perfect for colder weather, wouldn’t dare try it in heat. If you’re a gourmand girly, floral lover, or fruit addict, clean-girl aesthetic, or lover of freshies, don’t stop here. I wouldn’t throw spice in here either. It’s neither dry nor sweet, it’s smoky in an inoffensive way. If you like woody fragrances, this is a must-try; it never goes dill-y or pickle-y on me as other sandalwoods have.

With Somebody Wood was love at first smell. I like to think that you fall in love with a perfume exactly like when you do it with another person. It is quemistry, then attachments and you build together those memories. I am Somebody wood's person. I didn't know anyrhing about Phlur or Phlur perfumes. I bought a special sampler kit at Sephora with other nine clean new perfumes and it was included there. I was able to test the sampler kit for a week or two before choosing what will be the winner! I have to admit, I was smitten the first time I used it. I was wearing my favorite sweater dress and I spray it all over it and my body and my first instint was to go back to bed and relax and cuddle a little longer! and for me, this Holiday winter will always be attached to Somebody wood. It is cozy, intimate, woody, sexy, comfortable to wear everyday to work! I love it!

This was the last sample in my Phlur sample set, and while there were a few scents I liked, there was nothing that I truly loved and I was feeling a bit disappointed. Until this one. I am obsessed. It was totally unexpected. I've never had a scent that actually somehow elegantly combined a watery citrus smell with sandalwood. This is definitely fairly woody and powdery, but I couldn't believe how fresh it was too. It's truly unique. I've been spraying it constantly I love it so much. I will say it's fairly weak in terms of sillage - you won't smell it at a distance. It did stay faintly on my skin for a good 6-8 hours though. Scent Description: Sandalwood Fresh Citrus Sillage: Weak - Close to the skin. Longevity: Long - faintly for at least 6 hours

Fell in love with this scent when I sampled it at the store... immediately bought the 10ml bottle to trial. Warm, woody, cozy, and just a tinnnyyy but sweet scent that feels like staying inside in on a cold stormy day bundled up. It sits very close to your skin, which I like, but it has no lasting power. I also have to use 5-7 more sprays for this than I would for any other perfume. The only other Phlur perfume I've tried is apricot privee (another love of mine) and while that one projects insanely well, it also has terrible longevity. I'm not sure if this is true for all Phlur fragrances but it's a bit of a disappointment! I love this scent so much but I don't think I will buy a full bottle because I will go through it so quickly.

I first had a sample of Somebody Wood, which turned into a travel size, and then later a FSB purchase when I heard it was being discontinued. Phlur may not be the most sophisticated brand, and this may not be the most sophisticated wood scent either, but it kicked off my own personal exploration of more oud and unisex/masc leanings as an otherwise femme, so for that I am grateful! I've worn this fragrance for ski trips the past few winters and it's now turned into a winter-nostalgic scent for my husband and me both. I disagree with other reviewers about longevity; I find that this baby PERFORMS (lasts on my skin all day, and on clothes for DAYS), and I love the creamy-vanilla and musk balance to the wood notes.

This is an incredibly welcoming woodsy perfume. I'm a bit of an entry level connoisseur of wood perfumes, and this is definitely the safest for everyday wear. No one will tell you that you smell like a forest fire. I feel like the lack of smokiness here is unique- it's cozy but fresh. It's not dry like wood shavings. The citrus isn't very obvious or punchy here, but it keeps the overall fragrance light. Nothing about this fragrance is screechy or sharp in the nose. I often reach for it when I'm getting ready for bed. I love a big smoky woods bomb of a perfume, but I turn to this when I want something softer and more calm. I think this could work in all seasons on the right person.

This is a gorgeous fall/winter scent. I think it would work well for day or night-time but i would not say it is office -friendly because it definitely is bold! I also love Jazz Club for the winter but sometimes i feel like it is missing "something" and is a bit empty-Somebody Wood has that something! This is deep, unisex and to me the saffron and amber combination is what makes it stand out. The sandalwood makes it creamy and the musk just makes it magic on the skin. I don't get much of the top notes, but that might be what keeps it from feeling too heavy. If you couldn't quite commit to Jazz Club because it was too dank and cigar-y, I would try this!

I'm very picky with my sandalwood fragrances especially when sandalwood is dominant. Some of them can come off like dill or straight up BBQ so I like my sandalwood fragrances to have some sweetness to it. Somebody Wood is the perfect balance of woody and sweet. The sweetness doesn't overpower the scent at all. It's not too loud. Stays pretty intimate on me. If you like a clean sandalwood minimalistic scent, I would give this one a try. EDIT If you have Atelier Cologne Santal Carmin or Room 1015 Ten Fifteen, you don't need this. They all smell similar. It would be redundant to have all 3 like I do. 😄

I tried a sample of this when I bought the Phlur discovery scent from Space NK. I really like this. I was looking for something for autumn/winter that wasn’t too offensive. I tried Ebony Wood from Zara but it just seemed a bit too overly heavy for me and it didn’t sit right on my skin. This has the right balance which could possibly be the sandalwood. Will definitely be purchasing a bigger bottle for the colder months. Update: pairing this with Vanilla Skin body mist will give this a beautiful woody sweet vanilla vibe

Oh. My. God... this fragrance is the exact smell I’ve been searching for years for!!! It’s such a luxurious woody scent, like the type they use at high end hotels. The dry down is literally so beautiful. If you like the smell of guaiac wood you’ll love this! If someone knows a good affordable dupe for this (or anything that pairs well) please let me know as I am trying to use my travel sized bottle sparingly until I can save up for the full size ♥️♥️

Idk why more people don’t talk about this. To me (my personal opinion) this is intoxicating. It smells so good. The saffron makes it so sensual and sexy. Completely unisex, smells great on me and I can’t even imagine smelling it on a man. I keep smelling my wrist, and getting whiffs of it during the day. Lasting power is great. I definitely get the saffron, sandalwood, amber, musk and vanilla. Blended to perfection so addictive! I love

Spicy, woody, deep vanilla, with a hint of leather. Loving it. Only detecting the base notes on me, but I don't mind that at all. It isn't a sweet, dessert-y vanilla. Instead, it's a rather sophisticated one. And I don't get the slightly "chlorine" note emerging during dry down, which I do with most vanilla fragrances. The well-modulated blend also somewhat reminds me of Back to black by Killian.

Somebody Wood probably isn't going to blow your mind, but it sure is easy and comfy cozy. It's quite powdery and a touch sweet and bright, which nicely balances the musky woodiness. It's very inoffensive and feels at home in all seasons. It's right up my alley and one I go to when I don't want to think very hard about what scent to wear. I do wish it lasted longer.

An intimate, sweet, woodsy and powdery scent. So enticing, every sniff is followed by another, then another, then another. The type of scent that makes you want to shove your nose into someone’s skin. Feels like the scent trail of the most boujee and sensual cigarette that doesn’t exist. Loves it 9/10

This is very beautiful and authentic sweet wood perfume. I love it. It's gorgeous, straightforward, beautiful, and very sweet. Not tooth rotting sweet but beautiful sweet. It has gorgeous sandalwood notes, saffron and reminds me heavily of byredo perfumes. It's not too much in your face!

I loveeeeeee this fragrance. Got it randomly as a gift and I think it suits me very well. I like to mix it with tihota indult and it has become a signature scent. Reminds me of what a cool rockstars girlfriend may wear in like the late 60s, sorry about it!!!

oh i love this one. i want to marry it. i want to bathe in it. unfortunately, i think i also literally would have to bathe in it in order to get any kind of projection. my dream fragrance would be this, but ten times louder.

My mother hates it, so I wear it all the time. Woody, leathery, old book covers. The moss comes through strong, but not a green moss, a dry moss on a rock. Completely gorgeous and indulgent.

Why do my favorite scents get discontinued :( This is a fall winter scent cool confident girl in a cafe reading vibe. I have not found anything close enough to a dupe.

This is a no brainer, easy reach perfume. It's cozy, warm and sexy. It lasts a long time on my skin and is safe for the office.

Hate that this is how I got this, but I actually found full sized bottles of this and Not Your Baby in the sale section at Anthropologie... so I'm glad I got a steal price but the last time I picked up a discounted fragrance from there, it was the Boysmells OG Vanilla Era, right before they started the reformulation/rebrand. So, I'm so sad to see them on discount, I wonder what it means for the future of them as I think fondly of both of these fragrances. But anyways, just wanted to make the PSA... This is unique enough that it is not just another woody fragrance, at least not to me. I initially was very disinterested because who needs *another* woody fragrance?? but I'm so glad I tried this out. Instant full bottle purchase. Longevity is pretty good, I cannot recall the sillage at the moment as when I tested it, I had already had multiple skin tests of multiple fragrances going on my arm. Will update. I absolutely adore the bergamot opening and I feel so lucky that it and the saffron really shine on my skin. As it always seems to go for me, once I smell saffron, I'm hooked, I'm in love. It's almost got this dewy quality? The way it mixes with the bergamot and the beginning of that deep woodsy warm base gently peeking through is to DIE for. Like, sweet and bright, a touch of soft citrus, and an amber and woods combo ?? sexy as hell give me 14 of them right now. I would love to pair this with my other bergamot and/or saffron heavy fragrances so that it really stays consistent throughout. I'm so pleasantly pleased with this purchase.

I really enjoy Somebody Wood. It's a dry, powdery wood fragrance that doesn't lean sweet or bitter. My skin really amplifies all of the base notes: wood, musk, amber, moss, cedar, and maybe the vanilla. I don't get much of the bergamot or lemon which is strange because those notes are usually strong on my skin. I do detect the floral middle notes, there is a sweet floral scent to this, but it's not nearly as strong as the woodsy notes. The saffron is pulling really leathery on my skin which I enjoy a lot. I enjoy this a lot! Somebody Wood is nothing revolutionary, but I don't mind that. I think this fragrance leans more feminine, but of course, everything is truly unisex lol. I do not think this is similar to Margela Replica Autumn Vibes though. That one is so sweet on my skin, the maple is the most prominent note. Somebody Wood is really different because of the florals. All in all, this one is nice! I will happily use my sample here and there. I don't know if it's good enough to add to my collection though based on my limited fragrance budget. TBH if there was ever a crazy deal where the travel spray was half off, I would jump on it!

A beige aesthetic sandalmusk polished with plastic-toned saffron. I have a type and that type is fake wood!! As a Santal 33 Big Bottle owner, I love this genre. This is the scent of a Lincoln log McMansion, more plywood and laminate than actual tree. It’s sweet, it’s clean, it’s got central heating. Takes me back to the B&BW “Sensual Amber” line of the 2000s (be still my heart). Feels like the sawdust static counterpart to the white noise of Fugazzi’s Angel Dust. Unfortunately didn’t last more than two hours on my skin, but I will go out of my way to spritz whenever I pass through Sephora. Mental Snapshot: It’s 2005. You’re at your friend’s Tuscan-style house in the bougie subdivision. (They have an island in their kitchen!). Everything’s mahogany, granite, and wrought iron. And a whole lot of biscuit, buff, and beige. They have a home theatre. You sink into a brown pleather sectional. It smells like this. tl;dr: model home musk 🏠🤎

Decided to not listen to my own rules and blind buy this as it’s being discontinued. Glad I didn’t pay full price for it, as this is very much a skin scent. It is super intimate and you will either need to reapply or apply a lot of it, but I enjoy having “aura” scents in my collection that I can enjoy for me. This is actually really nice for what it is. A short-lived burst of citrus that dries down into a clean, lightly maple syrupy woods. It is such an easy grab-and-go for the cooler seasons. I would pick this up and wear it without thinking about it. It’s perfect in playing that role in a collection. Perfectly unisex, and I feel Phlur lacks those in its line up, so it’s sad to see this go as the only other fragrance I’d deem truly unisex in the collection is Father Figure. I’d grab a bottle of it before it’s gone if you’re looking for an easy wood fragrance that isn’t too strong or offensive for daily or office-wear.

Bought the travel size when it first came out and before it was on Fragrantica. Did not smell how I expected and I did not like at first. Revisited after a few months and the scent has changed. This smells like a sweeter version of MMM Replicas Autumn Vibes. EDIT: just got a sample of Ten Fifteen by Room 1015 and that smells also may identical to SW. Fascinating smell. Exactly as they describe: like a sensual embrace from a strong and sensitive type. It now smells much more bergamot/citrus and sweeter than when I first got it. The saffron is present. I don't get too much sandalwood smell, but it feels creamier or more watery and fresh now. Doesn’t last very long unfortunately. Bright bergamot, watery fresh floral, and creamy wood. NOT VANILLA! Very unisex but smelled slightly masculine at first. Feels less masculine after it sits for a while. I do not like the packing which seems to evaporate or something.

This one I keep going back and forth on. When I first smelled it I was thinking it would be very heavy wood, but the initial sweetness and florals really surprised me. At first I was kind of repulsed, but part of that might be because of the preconceived notion in my head as to what this might be. This one out of all the Phlur scents is probably the best scent to wear by itself, at least from a complexity standpoint. It smells less like a tree and more like a wooded flower garden. As it dries down the woods get more and more noticeable, but this is definitely one of the most interesting floral/woodsy scents I've ever smelled. I like it now, but if you are used to more traditional woodsy scents it might throw you for a loop like it did me. This scent is also 100% unisex, and I personally might try it more as we get back towards fall here in a few months but this was an interesting surprise.

Sandalwood, cyclamen, musk and saffron with a hint of amber, moss and cedar (maybe even fig as well), all well balanced and blended. Clean, woody, musky, boozy, cozy, warm, smooth and slightly soapy-sweet scent. It smells like a "trusted adult" scent i have encountered as a kid, idk why i feel this way when smelling this but it's dependable. it's unique and unisex. Slightly above average sillage and longitivity. The note composition is well put together, but the saffron-musk combo with this level of dosage is just foul. Some have expressed their concern about this very bottle smelling "burnt," and I believe the strength of those two notes is responsible for said challenges, it undermined the sandalwood's presence and amplified eachother's strength, a huge con. Regardless, this is one hell of a good musk, potentially the only musk bottle I find inoffensive and attractive.

It's alright. I find myself saying that about all of Phlur's line aside from Father Figure which I really enjoyed, but even that one has bad performance and I'm not sure that it's worth the money when better figs exist out there. I guess it's par for the course at this point. In my subjective opinion, this is too sweet to be a woody fragrance. The sandalwood is unmistakable, but it's smothered by florals and citruses. I don't really jive with the ambery dry down in this one either. It just isn't for me. I like my woods deep, dark, dry, and earthy. I don't feel like this is that. This is also extremely weak on me and lasted all of 30 minutes before fading into the abyss.

a sweet, orangey intro. your high school boyfriend picks you up in early spring, you dress light, in the mindset for warmth. but it's still cold, he wraps you in his leather jacket. and even as the night chills you're stuck with this warm vanilla feeling of going nowhere, staying home, waiting for the heat to come. the performance is meh, but i like this scent. very safe and quite sweet for a woody fragrance. i love the leather body. i ordered the travel size from sephora and the atomizer was broken; they sent me a new tube & i'm hoping the new one works better/contributes more to its performance.

I’m not getting much floral. Instead, the woody notes are subtle but lovely. A creamy, slightly sweet wood. It’s feminine and unique. There are times I enjoy this on its own, but others when I want something layered for complexity. I think the creamy wood fragrance would add warmth to some perfumes. I layered this with Jake’s House by Henry Rose and absolutely loved it. It gave JH a woody, ambroxan base and elevated the overall fragrance. Jake’s House is a non-offensive, clean laundry scent that I otherwise felt indifferent about. Somebody Wood made it into something I enjoy wearing.

I am very impressed, this scent is not what I expected! I did expect a woody scent but there is a lighter note of bergamot at the end and vanilla at the base that keeps this scent sweet and light. It kind of reminds me of antique furniture smell in the best way possible. It’s very unique in my opinion and I love how this woody scent is complex and mixed with many other types. I usually layer “into the night” from B&BW and I think this would work perfectly this scent!

I bought the sample set from Sephora, and this is the 1st fragrance I try, and also 1 of the 2 I do adore in the whole set of 7 samples. The woody scent is truly charming, warm but not intense, and sweet in a very genderless way. The dry down is pleasant with a gentle powdery scent. Just imagine you are in a winter resort, with beautiful heavy snow outside, and you sit in front of a fireplace with your loved ones, that's the coziness of this fragrance makes me feel.

I have 4 Phlur fragrances , and my favorite is Apricot Privee' ( however I don't smell any apricot at all, mabe just the seed of the fruit). Vanilla Skin is pleasant too, Sandara is nice, the worst IMO is Ameline , fake rose which I'm going to donate soon......Solar Power is ok, I don't think I will try any of the other fragrances. Enough is enough :o)

What's in a name? WOODS!. Flat out!. You do get a pleasant hit of saffron, amber, and vanilla mostly in the beginning. But overall, a bunch of wood. Pleasant and enjoyable. So if you haven't realized it yet...if you don't like wood fragrances, then this isn't for you. Decent fragrance. I can see where all the hype comes from.

This is just so close to Santal carmin, I thought it wpuld have been done by Jerome Epinette, as he did tangerine boy in the line, but I was surprised it was done by another perfumer. As I own santal carmin, I will not buy Phlur, but definitely a stunning saffron/suede light touch with a gourmand vibe!

Sweet wood. A synthetic saffron along with sandalwood and cedar wood. Over time the amber kicks in and makes it smell like Annie Mae's cookie shop found in American shopping malls. Not terrible, but not my thing. Too juvenile, but suitable for a young man or woman. Scent 5.2/10 Performance 6/10

one of my favorite phlur fragrances despite the hate for it, surprisingly fresh and cleaner than i expected. i quite enjoy layering this with cherry stem, i find the wood melds really wonderfully with the cherry scent. it is definitely short lived, but it's a very interesting, polite wood

This is a soft, pretty sandalwood scent with a tinge of lemon. I'm delighted that this works on me, as many woody scents go sour on me. It's also very light and a tiny bit sweet, which I enjoy as a scent that's subtle enough for everyday.

Pretty standard fare woodsy scent. I see why they discontinued it (esp bc the longevity isn’t great), but I wish they’d give us another unisex fragrance like this instead of dropping sweet body mist duos again and again.

I love how this smells, it has a leathery scent to it, while also being sweet which i'm guessing is the amber. I personally love layering this with the Sol De Janiero bum bum cream. It's like a match made in heaven

I’m no expert in perfumes but like @Frangrance_fit said this smells somewhat similar to Initio Side Effect but with more of a play dough smell and woods. Either way this house has some damn good smells!

Okay hear me out, this reminds me of Snif: Sweet Ash super fragrance! But Somebody wood leans more woody as opposed to the creamy dry down the SweetAsh Super fragrance has. Really good layering combo

woody in a way that is approachable and unisex. slightly gourmand: it is easy to enter and get into. a little forgetable, a little light, and lower longevity though.

Probably one of my favorite woody scents. I love that it's soft and has just the most subtle amount of sweetness. Very wearable

This is basically a sandalwood fragrance. A crunchy sandalwood. Nice clean masculine. Easy dumb reach for any guy.

Very pleasant , it smells somewhat gourmand at the beginning, but there are no gourmand notes in it. I like it.

If you landed here because of a certain Sudanese influencer on social media saying this smells like Sudanese ‘khumra’ or ‘bakhoor’, well I’m glad you’re reading this. I blind bought the 10 ml after seeing said post and I thought it was quite pricey for the size but it was an EDP and I had been desperately looking for something similar to Sudanese traditional scents. Upon receiving it, I really liked the opening - it was a strong woody heavily-fragranced Sudanese bakhoor scent - kind of like the collective scent of all the heavily perfumed and bakhoor-ed aunty toubs you hug at a wedding. So the reference is totally legitimate at least initially and manages to capture some of the home-made woody, musky complexity of Sudanese bakhoor and khumra (which often include the marine muskiness of ‘dufra’/finger conch). But then the dry down turns burnt sugary and that, like the other reviews say, disappears so quickly (within 1 hour for me) and then it’s nothing. This is a disappointing longevity for an EDP at this price point and what I’d hoped we’d end up with is the lingering sandalwood base that we can all smell on toubs worn at an occasion days before. I really had hope for this with its bold opening but it’s so transient and unmemorable which is something Sudanese fragrance is definitely not.
