Vanilla Smoke

I'm really enjoying this one! Another winner from Phlur. It delivers a lovely scent journey, with a blend of spicy, sweet, and smoky notes that evolve beautifully. For being a mist, this is pretty long lasting. The opening is bold, with the fresh, peppery zing of pink pepper, which reminds me of freshly cracked peppercorns. Combined with the earthy, slightly resinous touch of birch and the bright, citrusy hint of bergamot, the initial burst is a strong one. As the fragrance softens, the heart notes reveal a sweeter, comforting side. The vanilla is rich and warm, balancing the smoothness of a velvety white cacao. The tonka brings an inviting warmth that wraps the senses in an almost nostalgic embrace, adding a cozy sweetness that perfectly complements the spicier top notes. The base notes introduce a smoky, resinous quality thanks to the incense, which brings to mind the image of sweet, burning wood in a fireplace. Peru balsam and amber round out the fragrance, adding depth and warmth, making the scent feel grounded and comforting. To me, this body mist bears resemblance to Phlur's Somebody Wood perfume in its woody warmth, but with a noticeably sweeter edge. It has that same rich, cozy, and inviting vibe, but with a more pronounced sweetness thanks to the vanilla, cacao, and tonka bean. It's a perfect choice for anyone who enjoys a woody, warm fragrance with a soft sweetness that lingers beautifully on the skin.

HIIIII im back!!!! so i smelt this like one month ago and wasn't too sure with what to say but now im more sure now!!!~ scent: GOD THIS WAS SUPER GOOD, its a smoky vanilla, thats it!!! super simple yet effective, pretty unisex on my nose but its slightly masculine, but no issue to girls wearing this, it gives off amazing vibes for anyone who knows how to rock a leather jacket, im a very sportsy person so i dont know how to do that but alot others can!!! the quality was good and doesnt have the "perfumey" quality that most scents have nowadays, it doesnt have the disgusting ambroxan note, which was great too!!!!~ 8.5/10 very simple but even more effective performance: i didnt expect anything at all from this scent in terms of performance but even that exceeded my expectation, lasted about 7-9 hours on me which is insane for a cheap 240 ml bottle that goes for max 30 dollars, impressive indeed, you can use it anytime and anywhere to further boost the performance. 10/10 its a secret code to smell like a hot buff tomboy biker, which i think is cool as FUCK!!! i love this scent and im planning to gatekeep this and store it in a bunker, seriously good stuff. BYEEEEEE!!!!!!~~

As others have said, this is great for layering. To me, it feels like a less musty, less dusty, more mass-appealing semi-dupe for Moth by Zoologist. I love Moth, but it definitely has that antique, fancy, old, dusty closet quality to it. Vanilla Smoke takes a similar peppery, smoky, sweet DNA and makes it warmer, softer, and easier to wear. I get a lot of vanilla incense from this, which is pretty much exactly what I expected and wanted. It has some warmth and sweetness, but it doesn’t turn into a straight gourmand. The smoky/peppery side keeps it interesting, and that’s probably why I like it so much. It’s simple, but in a way that makes it super useful. This is easily my favorite Phlur scent I’ve tried so far. I especially love it for layering with darker or more atmospheric fragrances because it adds warmth, smoke, and a little sweetness without completely taking over. That being said, I still judge it as a body mist, more in the same category as Bath & Body Works or Victoria’s Secret mists. It doesn’t last forever by any means, though I do find it lasts a bit longer than those usually do. Still, for what it is, I really enjoy it and reach for it a lot.

Wow! I love this on its own and it's also perfect for layering over many many of my perfumes, I've tried it over spicy ones and vanilla ones it adds depth & intrigue. It's definitely a sweet, sultry, smokey, incensey vanilla, the smoke is still delicate enough for me. I find the vanilla a little in the background but definitely very sweetening and a lasting note, the white chocolate is very rounding and creamy, while the woods are very grounding. For a body mist this is fire. I'm very happy with it. This will be perfect on date night but can be worn during the day as it's not too too strong or too smokey for my tastes. I disregard the slightly negative reviews I've seen as in my opinion it's definitely how they described it in the marketing. It's also unisex, it has enough sweetness and is not masculine leaning it's right in the middle, but would love to spray this on my boyfriend. I didn't really like MM's By The Fireplace but I love this one.

oh wow. I think Vanilla Smoke is lovely. To me, it's a mixture of MMM By the Fireplace and Phlur's Vanilla Skin. It's a tad sweeter and lighter in comparison to By the Fireplace. It's also similar to YSL's Babycat. Babycat is too strong for my nose and there is a rubbery accord that my nose sniffs out instantly, which is unwearable for me. It wears sweeter on the skin. On the blotter paper, it is spicier. Phlur's Vanilla smoke is a lighter version of that smoky vanilla profile. It opens smoky spicy, and woody. As it dries down, it resembles vanilla skin more and more. I think this is a great intro to the smoky vanilla profile. I really like this one. It definitely embodies that sultry, sweet, and mysterious style that Phlur has marketed it to be. And is a great topper for a wide variety of other perfume profiles since it is unisex. As it dries down, the birch is a bit more prominent, giving a savory flair to this. So unique and good. 9/10

ADORE! I wasn't sure at the smell on a tester strip or in the air but on the skin it's perfect. Smoky, not too warm, not overpowered with anything sweet. I don't go for gourmands at all and thought this would be too syrupy or too icing-vanilla but smelled it anyway at a sephora, maybe I would be wrong. INSTANT purchase! Bitter and romantic. I am always looking for a fireplace kind of scent that doesn't include extras so I am totally satisfied. New favourite! It's like I have been in the mountains camping and came home and my clothes smell of smoke and cacao croissants.

i LOVE this fragrance. the complexity of the pepper and incense are grounded by the warmth of the vanilla and amber. it lasts a fair amount of time for a body spray, but i wish they sold it a perfume as well so i could smell it on me longer. it's sultry, serious, mature, and mysterious. it makes me feel like i could pull off a bodycon dress and compel a man give me his credit card information. it's the kind of scent i didn't know i wanted until i smelled it. i cannot get enough of it.

I love smokey scents and perfumes, this definitely leans less towards incense and more towards fire smoke like from a campfire, and the sweetness of the vanilla balances it perfectly. A lot of reviews mentioned it smelling like cigarette smoke which I personally disagree with but it is definitely a nice smokey smell. It is very reminiscent of the smoke from putting out a vanilla scented candle. Im using it on my clothes and hair and its definitely there, but not overpowering.

similar to by the fireplace by mason margiela, definitely could be worn together. by the fireplace is more bonfire smoke whereas this is more candle or church incense smoke. while by the fire place dries down to a lovely vanilla, this one combines the two. i like wearing this with alot of different fragrances when i wanna give a more androgynous vibe, like as a masculine accessory to a very feminine perfume

It hits you with a wave of smoky sweetness! I love this fragrance. I'm a huge fan of "By the Fireplace," which this scent closely resembles and pairs incredibly well with it. I really enjoy the cacao note, as it adds to its edible quality. There is an almost cigarette-like smell that some people have pointed out to me, especially when I first spray it. Though it doesn't really bother me.

This is the most addictive and perfect winter scent!! It is very strong and long lasting for a body spray. I get a very sweet vanilla with a campfire smoke, incence, balsams and an herbal and medicinal scent. It is very interesting, unique, delicious and addictive. It is blended so perfectly. I could bathe in this stuff!!! The best fragrance in the entire Phlur range!!!

As a lover of tonka, incense and pink pepper, I was delighted to come across an affordable fragrance with all of these, and this quickly became one of my favorites. Spicy and peppery at first but dries down to an ambery, smoky vanilla. So sultry and profound, a shame it lasts so little on my skin. Adore the harmony all of these notes create.

Drooool...🤤 OMFG this is good stuff. Smells kind of like a candle at first then transformed into a smokey, skin-like musk with the vanilla being a creamy texture instead of sweet. This is not sweet and I couldn't be happier! A your-skin-but-better scent after standing by a campfire made of aromatic desert woods. 10/10 So glad I bought this!

This vanilla is sweet, but balanced so nice w the smoke fr fr. I totally wanna layer it with more smokey things, and I’m thinking of using some bakhoor for that 🤩 it reminds me of Lebkuchen baking lol, and I also could totally see it being worn by men or women in leather jackets like someone else comment, it just has that lil vibe yk

This is the scent that made me search for a nice vanilla scent (ended up being Vanilla Skin), but I fell in love with this scent it's sweet but smoky but super soft. It's almost like you started baking something and also lit some incense at the same time and the two became married into one.

Not much vanilla but plenty of smoke. Super warm & spicy, smells like a sweet fire if that translates. Almost like a bonfire where everyone's dropped marshmallows into it. Also super great longevity for a body spray, even better than some edp's I've tried. The price point is another bonus.

Tried this out at Sephora and HELLO???? This is so sexy. Kinda gives 1920s noir vignette sort of aura. The balance between the vanilla and the birch + incense as the most distinct notes I smelled is incredible. This scent was made for cold and unforgiving winter nights.

Has a strong peppery opening very reminiscent of By the Fireplace. As I sat there wearing it I realized it had a more incense like thick smoke smell. But other than that it is nearly identical to BtF with a 10 hour+ wear time. Perfectly realistic, mysterious yet cozy.

To me this smells like a cross between By The Fireplace and Liis Bo, but not as strong or 'thick'. I love these. So you'll either like it or hate if this is 'your' vibe. For a body spray 5 / 5. Lasts a very long time for a body mist. Cooler weather, or cool evenings.

Very woody and smoky with heavy incense qualities. I don't find it sweet so not for traditional gourmand lovers, more of a vanilla extract style hint instead. Delicious though and can easily be sweetened up by layering if desired.

Like every wood based Boy Smells scent from their original collection, with the big black caps. just more accessible, or mainstream if you will. Smoky sweet and not too gourmand. Love it as it is great for layering.

Cozy Smokey, spicy vanilla. You could layer this with almost anything and make it a deeper, spicier fragrance. Love it. I can see why some may not like it but it’s a huge yes for me.

I Just grabbed this yesterday. It’s giving by the fire place vibes + the vanilla skin edp . It also , last for hours on clothes and skin ! If you like BTF you’ll like this .

This is so good. It does lean a little masculine, but it is truly smoky vanilla. It is like putting on Vanilla Skin and then standing by a bonfire downwind. I adore this.

This is easily my favorite Phlur fragrance. Sweet and smoky. It is similar to By The Fireplace, but I find this to be more wearable with stronger vanilla notes.

I was so sad when I finished my last bottle of Bonfire bash. This will do. It’s vanillic, its sweet, it’s Smokey, it’s perfect for the colder weather.

Warm, amber, smoky, balsamic, vanilla, warm spicy, leather, woody, sweet, soft spicy, cacao, sensual, rich, deep, intriguing, inviting, cozy, comforting On me this opens with the spiced woody scent of soft spicy pink pepper and woody birch. As it begins drying down the warm spicy cacao, sensual and powdery vanilla, and cozy tonka bean come through balancing out the rich woody and spicy top notes, and adding some sweetness. The dry down envelopes you in warm spicy incense, rich and balsamic Peru balsam, and the golden warmth of amber. It’s a super cozy spiced woody and smoky scent with a soft sweetness with some vanilla and cacao. It’s really perfect for adding a woody, smoky depth during the fall and winter. This is definitely a very smoky and woody scent that’s also quite spicy, and has a nice depth. So, while it’s cozy and comforting, it’s also one that may not be a safe blind buy for everyone. Whenever I first got this as a blind buy I actually didn’t overly like it. However, after letting it sit for some months, and retrying it multiple times, it finally grew on me. I was expecting more of a vanilla scent with some wood and smoke, and this is basically that only backwards, a spiced woody, smoky scent with some vanilla. I think I thought it might even lean somewhat gourmand. I thought because I liked By the Fireplace that I would certainly like this. I’m glad a gave it a chance though because I do enjoy it now. This is lovely on its own, but also beautiful layered with more sweet/gourmand scents. It’s perfect for adding a spiced woody and smoky scent to them, as well as adding depth. I do find it rather unique as the only really similar fragrance that I have in my collection is Replica By the Fireplace. The only other slightly similar fragrance I own is BBW Bonfire Bash which would be a massively toned down version, but it’s still somewhat reminiscent of it. In comparison to By The Fireplace: Yes, it’s quite similar, although I do personally prefer BTF. BTF is more nutty, sweet, and vanilla, while Vanilla Smoke is more incense-y Smokey and more peppery without the smoothing vanilla and chestnut. BTF is also more of a a woody, campfire-like smoky scent, while Vanilla Smoke is more incense-y. BTF also leans slightly gourmand, it has a soft gooey marshmallow sweetness to it, and that’s lacking in Vanilla Smoke. I feel like BTF is a unisex scent that does lean somewhat more feminine, but Vanilla Smoke is more straight unisex. I’m a huge fan of Phlur, particularly their mists. I currently own their perfumes in Honey Moon (absolutely amazing!) and Afterglow (a nice enough skin scent), and their mists in Heavy Cream, Vanilla Nectar, Beach Skin (my 3 faves!), Vanilla Skin, Cashmere Skin, Matcha Milk, Vanilla Blackberry, Vanilla Smoke, Berry Cream, Caramel Skin, Coconut Skin, and Amber Haze. I’m also placing an order this week for their Island Swim and Paradise Nectar mists which I’m really excited for! I get excellent performance with Vanilla Smoke, especially considering it’s a mist. The longevity is very good, it lasts 7+ hours on my skin. The projection is on the strong side, as it radiates out a few feet from me. Warm, smoky, warm spicy, woody, balsamic, unisex, deep, dark, mysterious, cozy, intriguing, unique On me this opens warm, woody, and spicy with aromatic and woody birch, fresh and spicy pink pepper, a touch of freshness from the bergamot, and some warmth from the vanilla, amber, and tonka bean. As it dries down the vanilla and amber become more prominent, and the scent gains a depth and complexity from the rich and smoky incense, and the balsamic and aromatic Peru balsam. The notes that are the most prominent on me are incense, Peru balsam, and amber. Unfortunately, I’m rather disappointed with this one, especially because there is way less vanilla here than I was expecting. I do pick up on it some, but the incense and Peru balsam are much more prominent. I usually really enjoy Phlur mists, so I was hopeful about this one. For reference, I have and really enjoy Heavy Cream, Vanilla Skin, Caramel Skin, and Coconut Skin. I had expected this one to be a vanilla scent that had a smokiness to it, but instead it’s almost all smoky, spicy, and balsamic instead of a vanilla scent with those accords. It’s as if it’s the backwards version of what I’d expected, all smokiness with just a touch of vanilla. I had originally thought that if I found this to be too smoky that I could maybe layer it with Heavy Cream or Vanilla Skin, but now having smelled it I don’t think that will work out like I’d hoped. I saw that this has been compared a lot to By the Fireplace, but I don’t think they’re that similar. I definitely much prefer By the Fireplace because it’s a nicer, smoother, and more nostalgic scent that really does evoke feelings of sitting near a cozy fireplace. Also, at least to my nose it has more of a vanilla scent to it than Vanilla Smoke does. To me this feels unisex if not even more masculine leaning. This definitely feels best suited to the colder weather of fall and winter, and I do think it will come off as too smoky, dark, and deep for spring or summer. I do get great performance with Vanilla Smoke. The longevity is very good, it lasts 9+ hours on me. The projection is really nice, it radiates out 2-3 feet from me.

Balsamic, smoky, warm, warm spicy, woody, soft spicy, rich, deep, unisex, sensual On me this opens with woody birch, spicy pink pepper, just a bare whisper of bright bergamot, a soft touch of powdery vanilla orchid, and even more subtle cacao and tonka bean. Once it’s dried down the smoky incense, balsamic Peru balsam, and resinous golden warmth of amber which are intertwined throughout the entire fragrance really become prominent taking center stage here. This was a blind buy for me, and turned out to be rather different from what I’d been expecting. There’s not much vanilla here which is one of the things that really surprised me. It’s more like balsamic smoke with a whisper of vanilla orchid. The notes that are the most prominent on me are the birch, pink pepper, vanilla orchid, incense, amber, and Peru balsam (the most prominent note). This also seems to lean more unisex to masculine. So, for me this one needs to be layered with a sweet vanilla. Some of the ones I like are Phlur Vanilla Skin, Phlur Heavy Cream, BBW Boardwalk Marshmallow Clouds, Whipped Honey & Vanilla, Cozy Vanilla Bourbon, Vanilla Romance, Fireside Flurries, Bonfire Bash, Wicked Vanilla Woods, Warm Vanilla Sugar, Snowflakes & Cashmere, Vanilla Bean Noel I’m a big fan of these Phlur mists, and own several of them along with this one, including: Heavy Cream, Vanilla Skin, Caramel Skin, Beach Skin, and Coconut Skin In comparison to: ✨Replica By the Fireplace - BTF is much more sweet, woody, nutty, warm, cozy, and comforting. Vanilla Smoke is much more smoky and balsamic, with less sweetness and vanilla. ✨BBW Bonfire Bash - There’s a slight similarity here, but not too much. It’s no where near as smoky, or woody, and has a lot more vanilla.

If pink pepper wasn’t in this, i’d be loving it, otherwise i wish it wasn’t so projected in the beginning because it kinda hits you in the throat when smelling it lmao, but it tones down once its dried. This is certainly not ideal for hot summer and bright days unless you want a screetching headache, i smelt this earlier this year in January and i don’t remember it giving me headaches, so this blend in a perfume is only meant to be worn in the cold. I really love this fragrance, im thinking of pairing it with a more sweeter vanilla, like a bourbon vanilla, because i don’t think i could wear this on it’s own because of it’s intense peppered-amber effect

To me this is a mixture of Maison Margiela By the Fireplace and Jo Malone Ginger Biscuit. It has the smoky vanilla of By the Fireplace and something sweet and spicy from Ginger Biscuit. I like it better than I expected to, but it is still just a bit too sharp for my taste. I don’t get any bergamot or amber, it’s mainly incense and birch with distinct vanilla and hints of pink pepper and cacao. Has moderate sillage and lasts about 5 hours on me. I saw that this was compared to Zara Supreme Vanilla but I disagree as Supreme Vanilla is sweeter and is nowhere near as smoky or woody.

I am not Phlur's normal customer, so this was a pleasant surprise. The vanilla's there, yes, but you mostly get the smoke and pepper. A less spicy, less sweet By The Fireplace, perhaps a ghost of a dupe of Tobacco Vanille. Body sprays usually project much further than perfumes simply because they get caught in the hair, the clothes, so I'm pleased that it does not smell cheap or sad, I may even purchase the full bottle when the weather cools down (along with the wildfires, wearing this feels a bit pointless AND tasteless with all the smoke here) Fantastic price for what it is.

I love this one and can see myself wearing it a long time coming, BUT it is not for everyone. It’s definitely smoky and full of incense, but that’s what I like. Not gourmand, but ever so slightly sweet. As for longevity and projection, it lasts a long time and I can smell it on clothes a day later. That being said, it’s great if you prefer people to say you smell “unique” rather than “good”. Only downside in my opinion is that the bottle is kinda ugly but it’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make

I got it today and it’s decent. Reminds me of Kerosene Blackmail (which is one of my faves) ; but without that berry note to it. I happen to like the incensey churchy smells. It’s like a goth girls gourmand. I have not smelled by the fireplace so I can’t compare it to that. Layers nicely with other vanilla fragrances; I tried it with fire at will and it gave it a nice little smoky undertone. If you don’t like churchy incense vibes you’re not gonna like this one.

Cozy, smoky brownies. Definitely no cigarettes here — only wood smoke (though not fruit wood). Mega sweet and youthful. I see lots of By the Fireplace comparisons, I also get Blackmail (they’re similar). It pisses me off because Vanilla Smoke outperforms Blackmail every day of the week. I find it lacks depth, so I layer it with an incense to goth it up. A safe blind buy if you like this sort of thing... though if that’s the case, you probably already have it!

This is not a vanilla. It’s not here. What is here is a very prominent birch and incense followed by a resinous amber warmth that’s very quickly dried leaving a smoke trail. I really like it but the name is misleading. I do look forward to using during the fall. It’s perfect for the end of summer months. The dry down is pretty reminiscent of burning paper to start a fire in a cabin fireplace. Pairing this with Sdv is a solid combo just fyi

To my nose, this smells like a wet fall bonfire. The birch is beautiful, but the smoky notes can be quite strong and does lean a bit more masculine. The Vanilla is soft and powdery while the citrus notes add a touch of sweetness. It doesn't quite have that warm edge that By The Fireplace does but it is still quite beautiful. The bottle lasts a long time and it is easy to over spray.

Birch sawdust & pink pepper dominate Vanilla Smoke for me. I don't get any bergamot and very little vanilla. This does not smell burnt to me, but it definitely gets a smoky quality from the balsam peru + incense notes. I feel like this is too intense on my skin. I prefer it as a linen spray layered with Phlur's Beach Skin to create a warm & cozy atmosphere before bed.

i like this a lot. what you should know is: 1. i like the smell of cigar smoke 2. i have no strong positive feelings about vanilla if you're expecting a sweet gourmand with a slightly burnt nuance, this isn't that. this is a smoky incense scent with a hint of sweetness. it reminds me a little bit of snif sweet ash, but much heavier and much less "safe"

Gothic. Carmila, Elvira, Dracula. The powdery ash of a vanilla incense in a charmingly old gothic castle. An abundance of candles are lit throughout dark hallways. Dust and spider webs. Accessible gothic fragrance. The cacao powder adds a rich dustiness. The vanilla, amber and Peru balsam is ever present making this approachable.

Initially I get the scent of wheat beer, but the dry down is very similar to tender Tonka by body shop. I don't get any vanilla, which is a shame. But I like to pair this with tender Tonka as a very cozy autumnal scent profile. To be honest, when I'm done with this bottle I will just use tender Tonka as that is stronger

Sharper smokiness than MM By The Fireplace. Longest lasting of the Phlur mists I have. Layers phenomenally with green woody scents too but right now I love it with Chai Epice as it cuts the sweetness nd adds that oomph. Think that will be on heavy rotation come October

I can't decide whether I love it or hate it. Sometimes I get whifs that are awesome and other times....ugh. It is summertime now (hot and oddly humid in the high desert) so I may wait and see how this develops in the colder weather.

Have to disagree with the ashtray- comparison. It's a creamy Bonfire with a lot of vanilla. Not as grown up and unisex as by the fireplace. It's really smokey in the beginning, but not cigarette smokey; Bonfire smoke from dry wood.

Even though it's unisex, I feel like it's more suited for men. It's really spicy and smokey in the beginning, but then it fades away into a sweet amber smell. It feels like you are next to the fireplace on a rainy autumn night.

Same family as BTF bit less sweet, more airy, whispy. Lovely smoke scent story. PS Luv to layer a spritze with a caramel frag, like Bianco Latte. Really elevates a sweet scent, gives it an edge, more interesting.

As someone who adores By the Fireplace, I feel like I can confidently say that this is a perfect pair with it, maybe even a replacement if Maison Margiela raises their prices again :/

Great sexy evening layering scent. Smells like blowing out a vanilla candle. The smoke is a little weird for a daytime office scent, but it’s a great winter/autumn evening mist.
