Monoliths & Dimensions

Simply stunning. It's a masterpiece of modern perfumery and I recon this scent profile will be emulated in the future. It's ahead of it's time in every aspect. Forget linear this thing is unpredictable and elusive from start to finish. Where most perfumes go left or right this one goes up. It takes so many twists and turns but the gorges sandalwood and vanilla anchor it all and keeps the more experimental edges of this fragrance in the realm of enjoyability. It opens with a blast of sandalwood but instead of coming across like a smack to the face as in the case of lesser sandalwood based fragrances this one pulls you in and cocoons you in it. There is no harshness to this sandalwood, every aspect of it is smooth and soothing. Dark and resonous without taking on a musty quality, sweet without becoming cloying, spicy without becoming overpowering. This is the most finely blended sandalwood I've ever smelled. I think the labdanum is what keeps it at bay, just enough for it to be impressive but not unapproachable. Then the oud, amber and vanilla. The oud comes across every so slightly fungal but it never strays into the fecal quality oud can sometimes get. The amber and vanilla pull it back, anchoring the woody fungal quality with familiar sweetness. And that beautiful sandalwood stays through with all of this like a baseline keeping it he whole composition together. The patchouli is there but in a supporting role. The whole of the fragrance is dark and rich so the patchouli serves as an accent. The contrast elevates the whole scent and i think it would be lesser without it. This is a special fragrance. It's so far removed from the realm of designer and all but the most masterful niche scents that it's hard to even describe. It's a masterpiece.

My first review I'm posting here! This stuff is probably my favorite take on a sandalwood forward scent. To me it's rich, deep, slightly sweet sandalwood with this beautiful smokiness. It has this nearly church-like incense just to balance out that sweetness. The oud here is noticeable for sure, but isn't stinky to me. I think it's that oud that gives that almost smoked wood feel. This may sound odd, but the smoky quality is almost metallic for an amount of time. I will say this smells so cozy, like a memory to me. It is a remarkably long lasting scent on my skin, with it lasting at least 11-12 hours, from 6am to about 6pm. I will definitely get a bottle of this one!

opens with a ton of sandalwood, peppery and sweet. theres almost an incense and resinous background to the sandalwood. as the sandalwood soften, a beautiful vanilla begins to seep through. the vanilla is very sweet and dusty from a distant labdunum note. theres a resinous incense to the vanilla to from the olibanum. theres also a patchouli note that's slightly spicy and green that adds onto the depth.

Crushing sandalwood that keeps you comming back for more. It wraps you in a warm spicy blanket and forces you to contemplate its beauty. Come to me my precious...

A really oudy, ambery, woody and resinous scent with the Phronema woody DNA. I rate this a 7/10

Testing this blind from the discovery set my first impressions was a more boozy and less ashy-tobacco version of TM Tobacco Vanilla (TFTV). And while a side-by-side comparison reveals significant differences, they appear to live in the same neighborhood. Not one for the ashtray elements of TFTV, I enjoyed Monoliths & Dimensions moreso. It came across in blind testing as more smokey, weird, and pleasant. While it didn't have the power of TFTV, and was more subtle in contrast in it's character, its less sweet, more congnac-like body capture my imagination more. This might be more of a growing distain for TFTV (a kind gift from a friend) than a growth of love for M&D, though I have almost wiped out my sample and so far is my favorite of this house. While on first application it seemed more boozy, the sandalwood and smoke-vanilla-incense elements came upon after hanging around for a while. It does leave me wishing for a bit more, somewhere , somehow, but still an enjoyable fragrance that is trying less hard to slap you in the face with tobacco ash, and I appreciate that.

Dark smoky amber scent with a slight feral feel to it, this is an auspicious debut for this mostly natural small batch artisanal scent brand. The scent opens with smoky olibanum, labdanum and patchouli leading to a heart of mostly animalic ambergris and amber. It settles on a powdery sandalwood bed with hints of vanilla and oud. Overall the scent maintains a dark ominous tone throughout its wear. If there is one area that could be improved upon, it’s the drydown which remains fairly flat, linear and familiar. But overall a dark evocative composition that lovers of things a bit on the darker side (think of Prin) should gravitate towards. Enjoy!

The sandalwood and vanilla are very good, but it’s way too smoky for my liking it kind of feels like the smoke overtakes this perfume if you are in to perfumes that are dark this is definitely for you and I can definitely see why a lot of people would like this just not for me

It is a masterpiece. Calming. Meditative. Oudy. Sandalwoody. More than that. It’s something that keeps you contemplating. Wow. Fantastic.
