The Monastery of St. Onuphrius on the Field of Blood

animalistic af. the saddle bag of a traveling medieval doctor, filled with strange concoctions and ingredients. horse sweat on worn conditioned leather, civet and other necessities to keep miasmas at bay. the dry down is a bit musty, wet and cold. i like how uncompromising this is.

This perfume smells like the confessional murder scene in Exorcist III. Lacquered wood, dust, and the smoky incense inside the censer. It smells like someone breathing down the back of your neck. Sexy and suppressed and ancient and sad.

On his website this is described as smelling like “blood on flagstones” and “the sweat of monks who haven’t spoken in years.” God help me, but I thought that sounded amazing. In fact, it was the first one out of the sample pack as soon as it arrived. And you know what? It smelled exactly like that. Like so much so that it’s unnerving. Old man sweat and blood, why did I think I would like this again? It’s like the monk who hasn’t spoken in years is brandishing his rusty iron crucifix in your face as he invades your personal space. Honestly, this would work great as the scent track to a horror movie. I kept thinking someone very unwelcome and bad intentioned was in the room with me This is someone's holy grail fragrance, just not mine.

I bought a sample of this perfume out of morbid curiosity, and it smells exactly like the description. When I first sprayed it, it was the most unwearable thing in the world (smelled exactly like the skin of an old, working man), but it dried down into a kind of leathery vinyl scent that I loved. It's very evocative and impressive, but I don't think I'd wear it.

This is a very British scent memory for me, but it smells like a working men's club. I'm into it. Old cigarette smoke clinging to worn leather bench seats, old sweat, spilled John Smith's in the carpet, and a freshly polished wood bar.
