Ambre Ceruleen

Ambre Ceruleen is a really nice fragrance with a modern structure and say to avant-garde. Explore an original and surprising way various facets of an amber oriental fragrance. First open the natural essence of verbena scent CO2 and mixed with synthetic scents exploring on almond facet Tonka Bean that is beautiful the so pleasant shock created, creating a scent like a slightly sweet almonds with a hint of citrus lemon and a point floral soft, all progresses to drying with a balsamic agreement, sweeter, dusty and thick with opopanax and sandalwood, moreover tonka bean rotates a soapy point sniffing set as wax, somewhat weaker than start but still a whole, very interesting, nice, portable and with enough quality. I think Ceruleen means '...up the wahzoo!' This is an INTENSELY resinous warm, deep uber powdery amber... This is an attack of amber! The quality displayed here is great because it's all about balance. The opening is wierd the whole thing takes time to develop but when it does it's gorgeous! Rough, for just a moment a sweet, hot spice effect (a bit like cinnamon) coming from opoponax, then smooth tonka beans and sandalwood. This is an example of simple construction where the notes themselves have several facets which shine to create more than the some of it's parts. I like amber so naturally this scent appeals to me however I can definitely see how it would be too much for some. Update: So funny when I read a review then revisit a perfume years later, (April 2020) I think putting 'INTENSELY' in caps was a bit misleading but largely my thoughts are the same. This is one of those amber perfumes which smells barely there in the opening, no real top notes to speak off and sleek, sheer santal and coumarin merging all the resin into indistinct fuzz of warmth. Knowing perfume means you learn to detect little foibles and pick up on signs and a meek opening amber is usually a less full on experience than say a labdanum/incense heavy amber like TF's Amber absolute for instance. This is more laid back, powdery, balmy and lighter on it's feet but still just a massive chunk of a Base/Bass heavy perfume. I like it but compared to a million other amber's it doesn't announce itself nearly enough to warrant special attention, a pleasant wear though.

Overall, it is a powdery balm of an airy amber scent. In the first spray, I can smell a bit bitter scent of crushed almond (but, this is a denser version to the one I found in FM L'Eau d'Hiver). I also detected smell like a rubbery scent and kinda annoyed me. I was about to think that this fragrance might not be my cup of tea. Then I realized that I was wrong. The drydown was sweet ambery, like MPG Ambre Precieux but little bit harsher. Silage and longevity are quite good.

Testing my sample; amber vanilla sweetened with honey, very airy and powdery, smells much lighter than you would expect an ambery vanilla scent to wear. Can get away with this all seasons except summer, I think this profile works best in cooler weather. Sits just at arms' length.

I love this scent. On my skin I get a smooth, warm amber/tonka/warm/sexy-mix. A bit skinclose but longlasting. I was gifted a sample of this beauty - I will not buy a bottle - its too expensive for me. Totally unisex - if you can - try it.

I just sampled this, the scent is a sweet opoponax powder, which is nice; however, there is no sillage to speak of, longevity is poor as well. Do I like it? Yes. Would I pay retail price for it? Absolutely not!

Pleasant scent but even in the opening I have to waft my shirt to get a smell of it. To get OK performance I would have to apply 1ml/hour.

Honeyed amber, incense, vanilla. Cozy sweater scent, great for winter. Similar to some Tauer bases. Recommend for women.

Cerulean is a type of blue (colour that is; sky-blue to be precise-for those of us who remember Pantone millenium!). I struggle to see the context between that and an amber note. The amber note itself is rather beautiful (opoponax will always do that), but unfortunately performance leaves a lot to be desired. It doesn't disappear as such, but it becomes a very faint skin scent. Compare this with something like Chaldee Collection Heritage Jean Patou (my favourite opoponax perfume, and sadly discontinued), which lasts for hours and hours.

Amber, amber, amber...it's all amber...to much, no thank you!

Sample courtesy of LuckyScent. It's a very powdery-feminine amber, sweet light and bright. Certainly I would say a true feminine amber! Accompanied by some darker-herbal undertones with some more added powder. It starts off like this, and while I do like sweet, powder is not quite my thing unfortunately. As hard as I try, I just cannot find the verbena note listed, although that could have been the muted fresh herbal note I just about detected at the top. It takes time for the amber to really take effect, but it's quite nice when it does. Just about. But the main theme of this scent is sweet powder, like the powder balms girls buff their faces with- it's endless! Too 'nice' and feminine for me, so my personal score cannot be great. Also, it's very linear- so it's really one for testing before splashing out as this is one of the more pricier niches (not Amouage-like, but one to watch out for anyhow). I was really looking for more woods, and especially more resinous qualities of the amber/opoponax itself, but sadly, none came. Really is one for ladies who love their amber-powder! 2/5 for me. 3/5 overall.

Too meek, too mild, too modest. Very pleasant indeed on the opening - the papery opopanax and slightly citrusy verbena inflect that golden, 'amber' tonic warmth really well, in a way that's not that common to amber scents - but all too soon that more interesting swing has died away into a general muted sweetness. Definitely discreet and wearable anywhere (and by anyone of any age or gender, though I'd say much more on the feminine side) - but it's just so dang unobjectionable that I sort of object to it. It's so determined not to offend or be outstanding in any way that it kind of annoys me, in fact. Sillage is so weak that even relatively good longevity (6-7h) is barely detectable anyway. A gentle shrug and a delicate moue of disappointment from me - just too nicey-nice for its own good. Loveable but dull.

This is such a beautiful, warm fragrance and one that's perfect as a comfort scent on a cold day. The opening is creamy and smooth, the opoponax dominating at the start, and a hint of the verbena jazzing up the composition. As it dries down, it becomes a powdery amber, quite sweet and clean. I find the lasting power of this one is around 5 hours, which isn't the best, but is acceptable enough. This one has become a staple for me this winter, already getting a few wearings. I like the fragrance so much, in fact, that Ambre Céruléen definitely has a prime place in my top five favorite Pierre Guillaume creations.

Beautiful, sugared and resinous amber, with a powdery undertone, delicious and sensual, for the 30 minutes it lasts. Such a gorgeous amber scent! If I get a full bottle I would need to reapply multiple times...what to do? I will keep enjoying my sample while I meditate on my financial decisions...

Very true and natural ambra. This smell like oil Ambra from Egipt or Tunisia :)

This disappears after 20 minutes on me. An expensive mistake.
