Bois Blond

Firstly, it is not oriental not a bit. Greens there is nowhere near either. Herbs that is to say in the sense of the word which is for example in number 24 of PG not much. There is a certain warm caked grass clump but not the one in which it would be desirable to lie "in a warm August evening" and it`s with a touch of edgy metallic smell of wood shavings fly with power saws. And this grass is wet (as sometimes smells slime in stagnant pond) but caked grass hay that is to say beginning to rot and smoke thus forming a pungent, smoky odor. It`s dry. So and this perfume both wet and dry. A dry it its balsamic, similar to the strong herbal tincture. Spicy tincture. Spice odour here present from the beginning to the end and does not slide down the flavor to any cream or cream-format up to the base. Cereals (wheat) as well as sweets about anyone is write I did not observe. Maybe they are hiding behind the very spice and woody artificial flavor. After some time (half an hour) slowly appear famous boring, polished cedar boards ready to use for furniture collectors. Here it is the name of the perfume is coming from. And though these boards and polished but rotten. And sometimes moss covered. As it became clear I took it without testing: according on reviews and pyramide, creating in the mind a "perfect" woody fragrance with a strong influence of hay and grass. And none of this I has received. The way I summarize it was surprisingly even for me: it does not shine the "strangeness" and "avant-garde" but its bouquet rather belongs to the vintage, chypre fragrances with an active wood component in which the place of citrus occupies tart rotten grass. So in my opinion should be smell French officers between the First and Second World War: a loud, stern and uncomplicated. The result: sharp, balsamic, rotten, dry.

Hay definitely, cedar for sure, tobacco yes, that's there too, and galbanum. Dry grass, not the green stuff, and there's a herb too, sage I think - the kind you find hanging in big bunches in european delis. In fact, lots of dried sage. I can't comment upon ambergris, not having ever stumbled upon the fabled stuff in person. But wheat? Really? I've been in a lot of wheat fields and haven't noticed anything like this. I really liked this. I like to spray it on hankies and tissues that I tuck away in my handbag as well as on myself. It lasts long enough. As to the lack of sillage, I couldn't comment. My perfumes are for my benefit, and I am not in favour of a large blast zone/trail anyway since other people have unaccountably poor taste. But it's all to nought, because apparently, PG have discontinued this great fragrance. I can only find one online shop who still claim to have this (in Warsaw), but they ship everywhere in the world except Australia because apparently, they can't do tracking to here(!).

This gets the award for weirdest perfume I've ever worn. But I like it enough to seriously consider a full bottle (Edit: I bought a full bottle. No regrets!). It smells like a blend of creamy, smoked mayonnaise, rotten vegetables, and dry tobacco. I can't figure out why on earth I would want to smell like that, but something about it kind of mesmerizes me. I think this is miscategorized as green because it seems too smoky and woody for that category. Even though something in it smells like wilted lettuce, it's still not what I would think of as a "green" perfume. At times I think there is a whisper of cinnamon, but it's probably the tobacco that causes that effect because it's the same thing that happens when I wear Tobacco Vanille. Sillage and longevity are about as much as I could stand. If this were any more potent, the thick, oily mayonnaise would become intolerable.

The woodiest, dustiest lumber-yard + hayfield ever! Starts with a bit of bracing cut-wood sharpness (other notes combined with galbanum?). Slowly dries down into a wood-and-hay amber, still dusty but more mellow and with a touch of sweetness, like golden sunlight at the end of a late-September harvest. Hay-bales piled in an old wooden barn, air heavy with swirling hay-dust lit up by shafts of honeyed sunshine (I did actually play in a place like this as a child, not just filching cinematic cliche). The dusty sawdust notes stop this from going too trad-barbershop, but there is a fougere dimension here nonetheless that arguably leans masculine; on me it just feels like a perfect tomboy scent. Although this isn't super strong it still needs careful spraying because of how intense the sawdust notes are; 1-2 sprays is plenty for me. Such a pity it's been discontinued.

This is lovely. The opening is a well balanced tobacco, hay and galbanum. The galbanum and the fresh grass note make for a fantastic outdoorsy, aromatic first 15-20 minutes. I love the herbal green of galbanum in perfumes, but unlike - say - the straight green grassy fields of Roos & Roos "Malamata" (which the opening of this resembles), Bois Blond soon develops in a woodsy direction, with the cedar stepping forward and taking command once the topnotes settle, and finally amber and musk coming to play, warming and drying the greens of the opening like summer turning slowly to fall. It's beautiful. A bottle of poetry. I bought mine back in... er, 2009? In any case, it's 2/3 empty now and as it's been discontinued (boooo!) I'm going to have to look for something similar now.
