Ciel d'Airain

I was very surprised when this masterpiece didn't evolve well in daytime. i thought i bought the wrong fragrance, i tried it in the evening just before the perfume shop closed. I loved it from the top notes to the base. next day i sprayed twice, on skin and on my shirt. both areas gave me exotic fruity vibrations. i was upset and smelt only coconut, like in bronze goddess 2010. In the evening i gave Ciel d`Airain another chance to show me hidden treasures of Pierre Guillaume and it works. I felt indescribable mix around soft fruity accord with delightful sharpness. It tickles your nose and keeps your thoughts not in this world. I'm very pleased to feel this modern and minimalistic music suite. It's like one thin sound which knits with random piano. It's like ryuichi sakamoto piano experiment. I definitely think this fragrance stands out from the others few components perfumes.

Coconut milk, ripe figs, and threading through it all, the unmistakable scent of olives. If you turned your head and inhaled of an evening on a walk in Tuscany, this might be the fragrance you caught on the wind. I love this perfume, it's versatile enough for day or night but quirky enough that in a social setting it would stand head and shoulders over more pedestrian choices. Great conversation piece too.

The perfumer’s intent was to produce a feeling of being in an orchard just before the rain, taking refuge under a pear tree. Hence in Ciel d'Airain you have the bark and leaves accords rather than the fruit, all shaded with ambergris for that dense just-before-the-summer storm effect.

Having tried Philosykos, Premier Figuier and Premier Figuier Extreme, the hunt was on for a fig fragrance with that added extra something. This is it! Ciel d'Airain is fruitier and fuller than Philosykos, which was a tad too green for my taste, not to mention a little thin and insubstantial. I prefer it to the L'Artisan creations - I found those a little heavy on the coconuts. I LOVE this perfume. It's the perfect balance of fruits and woods. It feels full-bodied and well-rounded compared to other figs I've tried (could that be due to the presence of amber?). Having said that, this is not a heavy scent and I would feel comfortable wearing this any time, any season, any place. Once it dries down to base notes, the amber is more noticable and quite lovely against the coconuts. My only reservation about this is the longevity. It's very faint about 3-4 hours after application, have to press my nose very close to my skin. Need to retest, see if I can make it last longer! Lovely stuff :-D May not be a very "true" representation of fig, but it is a truly lovely scent.

Fig is mentioned very briefly and in passing on the PG website, so not sure how important a note it is. Personally, I don't get anything remotely fig-like. What I get is a fruity note, which I find it hard to place; happy to accept that it is pear tree leaf. In the end it comes across as a fruity-freshy; I smell like I just got out of the shower and the shower gel was a pear one. This in itself is not bad. In fact, I would say this is a nice composition overall, but it's not stormy day in northern Italy. This is a summer fruity scent for holidays in the sun. The notes above are wrong: there is no amber in this perfume; in the PG website it clearly says ambergris. However, I get no ambergirs in the drydown (perhaps it's there in a small quantity).

Mild fig nowhere near as strong as the fig note in Le Labo Thé Noir 29 (2015). Strong good smelling pear; many pear notes can smell like Pear Drops candy or acetone. This has a nice (synthetic) ambergris which is salty and slightly musky. Olive tree wood notes running through it which gives it a Mediterranean vibe. I've tried Bois Naufragé (2010) which is also by Pierre Guillaume and contains ambergris, fig and something pear like, but this is better. Price in UK is £138 for 100ml (in 2021). It is a really nice and interesting scent. It is bottle worthy, I like it, but don't love it. Solid 7 out of 10 and a true unisex scent. 1ml sample

Massive Fig note in the opening which has all the juiciness and green qualities you'd expect, It's wild but not as much as diptyque's Philosykos. That lasts a few minutes then you're treated to a delicate woody amber. I'm not familiar with pear wood to be honest but the smell here is a fruity wood accord which I find very appealing. The drydown is delicate and blossom like... a kind of peachy powder. I'd prefer it on a woman, not that it's feminine but I don't think I'd wear it. Hasn't blown me away but is a very interesting start for a house which doesn't use conventional notes. I'm looking forward to some of the other samples I have.

For me it smells like a fresh green figue leaf. A little bitter. I would love to have a bottle of this one for summer.

Opens very tropical- coconut, pineapple- very light and fresh, drying down into a milky fig.

I get fig leaf. It's quite nice, nothing special.

This one was very interesting, I must say... I got a washed out 'nag champa' note, mixed with a 'Remarkable People' notes, as well as a striking Nasomatto note. I don't get any Pear + Olive similarities, or anything remotely comparable. It's a pleasant scent, totally not for me, and I don't see myself taking this any further...

While my initial review from Apr 2011 remains on Fragrantica, this perfume has disappeared from my "I have this" shelf. After some searching online, I've found that this comes in a dark bottle, same shape as the white one that I own. Love this fig note, although it smells less sweet and more woody, earthy, than the fruit it self. This one reminds me of Diptyque's Phylosikos, (more figgy goodness). A bit coconut-y, as stated by 'Olfractallnfemm, in their post, but I don't get the pineapple they detect. It gives 'Fig Leaf & Cassis" by Thymes a run for its money, but I can't choose between the two which I prefer best. Me thinks I will be hoarding what little I have left of my 50 ml, since Fig Leaf & Cassis has made a disappearing act on me . . . hard to find now (sad face : (

I agree with Finzi below. I too love this scent but struggle with the longevity. I just used a heavier hand so let's see if that helps. But this is one of those scents that just makes you happy. Immediately my mood lifted and I feel more energetic. It also helps to clear the mind, get you focused. Funny how scents can do that, isn't it? Ciele doesn't deteriorate into a stink fest, nor do any of the notes amplify on me. It remains calm throughout, silently fading away. I don't get olive so much as wood, and any fruit notes are restrained. Just charming.

What an interesting scent. Olive was most evident on the opening shortly followed by the woods. Olive is most definitely the dominant note on me at least. I don't know where the ambergris is but I suspect its underneath all the woods and twigs. There is not much sweetness to speak of. Its all very natural and pleasant. Very unisex and a natural smelling woody fragrance. Very nice. A shame it has no development. A very simple fragrance with moderate sillage and longevity.

Sweet, airy greenery. So unexpected but very nice. It is uplifting to my senses whenever I smell where I've sprayed it. Reminds me of being outdoors on a beautiful summer day among lush fruity greenery by the water. Mmmm. . . want to take a bite of this perfume.

Totaly Fig perfume. Bitter silightly sweet. Similar to Bissumin fig perfume.
