Grand Siecle Intense 7.1

Very well-negotiated compromise finding a happy middle ground between mass-market fresh citrus aftershave and super-quirky niche herbal aromatic. Basically Parfum d'Empire Azemour & Iskander, plus Hermes Concentre d'Orange Vert formed a troika, conducted diplomatic negotiation and triangulated a sweet spot between all three. So it adds up to a lovely green-spiky-zingy-mossy treat apt for any gender and bright spring and summer days. Beautiful sparkle of full-spectrum bergamot and orange at first, really luscious and true. Given more heft with some serious grunt in the oakmoss (not as overwhelming as in Iskander or Miller Harris Le Pamplemousse, though). Mint, vetiver and patchouli can all ruin a party for me but they're wisely controlled without making themselves too felt. More hay would be nice but what there is, is just fine too. Still feels a little like perfume-by-committee: it's an all-around people pleaser, but not one with a marked character of its own. Apart from it sharing the usual PG longevity problem: great smell, no staying power. Phase I of bright citrus lasts under an hour, though the rest might stretch to up to 2 or 3. Only the greener, grassier notes - hay, vetiver, oakmoss - stay the course and though it's lovely just as a green salad scent on its own, I pined for that fleeting picture at the start. "Intense"? I'm sorry but pas du tout, M. Guillaume. I can't deny: smells gorgeous, for a short while, and then just very very pleasant, for a little while longer. If any of the 'smells like' above are loves for you, then try it out. May do much better and more impressive things in really really hot weather so bear it in mind if you live somewhere scorching and have money to burn. (Or maybe have better luck with skin chemistry than me on this one). Yet another PG which makes me sigh thrice: once at the beauty, twice at the price...

The best I've smelled from PG. It's balanced and rounded. I think I've tried most of the PG fragrances and for the most part they smell strange and unappealing. I was surprised that they thought of this as a unisex scent because it smells like a classic men's cologne. The hay/tobacco combo keeps it from being too citrusy/sweet, and I like the honey in this because it's not too dominating. This would work well any season, and it does smell wonderful. I did ask a couple of girls what they thought, and they weren't too fond of it. Great longevity and great sillage. It never gets overpowering. Classy.

Apparently made from 100% natural and organic materials. I sprayed on my neck and could only smell it for 30 mins. Smells very good though.

Citrusy, cologne style scent. Not bad but there are cheaper alternatives.

am I the only one to strongly associate this smell with lemon toilet freshner? don't get me wrong, it's a nice smell, but it's as unsofisticated as it can only be due to that associations! it could be a fresh idea when Eau de Guerlain came on the market, but now - not so sure...
