Komorebi 9.1

I am writing this review because nobody commented on how PERFECTLY named this fragrance is. I initially ordered the discovery set. This line has a very distinct signature to the bouquet, that doesn’t smell like any other fragrance line I am familiar with. Although sold as unisex, most of them smell very masculine to me. This one (as well as Poudre de Riz, Manguier Metisse, and L’Eau de Circe, which are most similar to Komorebi) leans more unisex with hint of feminine. At first I thought it was still more masculine than I care to wear, but I found myself draining the sample, ordering another, and draining it too, (and another) so I am about to order a full bottle. ☺ For Komorebi, I don’t smell any of the individual scents for more than a fraction of a second. They waft in and out of each other, and never so individually/unblended that you can identify them before they drift away again. It is enchantingly lackadasical, clean, and muted chiarascurro. One of my happiest memories in my life was wearing this perfume for the first time while walking my dogs in an autumn forest in the late afternoon with that komorebi lighting effect and the aptly-named fragrance to compliment it. It was just such a pefectly curated moment. So exquisite. Perfect name for the fragrance.

Reviewing a bottle from 2024. Komorebi 9.1 was launched in 2018. This is a lovely transparent green herbal fragrance. Komorebi opens with smooth natural mint (not at all toothpaste) followed by herbal florals- mimosa and reseda or mignonette, which smells sweet, floral, and green, often with violet and fruity, strawberry-like notes. I cannot detect the blackcurrant or any fruitiness. The base is subtle mostly tonka and musk. No definite hazelnut accord. This is very atmospheric and I can see the desired effect of sun through deciduous trees on a warm humid day. Quality- excellent Unisex Performance- average; stays close and lasts only about 4 hours. Komorebi 9.1 is a serene fragrance. Softly green on a vanillic tonka base. Perfect for daytime for all seasons. My only wish is for it to have better performance. For this I would suggest a similar but perhaps less elegant fragrance from Perfumane called Greeny Blend. 8/10

Alright then, Komorebi is a perfumer's attempt at interpreting a Japanese noun that cannot be translated into any other language. I say he was one element off.... Komorebi doesn't capture sun filtering through trees but noise. And the noise is clamorous and boundless. Every time I spritz this (which is a few times a day, because longevity is 3-4 hours) I start singing 'Jungle Boogie, get down, get down, get down....' This is a quirky, dry woody fragrance that is really pleasing to the nose. It honestly lifts my mood. There is a luminosity that keeps it from fading into the skin and an interplay of notes that keep it from getting boring. Do try it. And get down, get down when you do so.

Fortunate to have discovered this unique independent French scent at a boutique in Bordeaux. To my American olfactory sense, this is a clean, fresh green floral. Immediate note is a vanilla-spearmint, quickly drying down to a soft musky floral with hints of mint. I get no whiff of chemicals - maybe I got a particularly good batch. This sits VERY close to the skin; so, I say it's great for hot weather or settings in which you don't want to give off too much of a scent with normal activity (eg, healthcare settings). Despite the weak silage and mild to moderate longevity, 9.1 will certainly be one of my favorites in my collection.

My favorite from PG, and one of my all-time greatest scent hits. The way the perfumer balances the high and sharp cassis and green notes with the super-low hazelnut (accord?) and woody elements, leaves a magically open and airy scent dancing area in the middle! The accompanying artistic vision for this fragrance - the visuals of light flickering between leaves - takes this fragrance to a supremely divine level. Perfume as Art, indeed.

I don't know how it works during cold season ,but while almost 30 celcius in the shadow, this fragrance is a divine creation. Very smooth ,luxurious body cream vibe blends with own skin scent .strong mint only at first sniff,later in the back .Very unique in the world of perfumes ,but I think not so unque in the world of perfumed toiletries . Great position for herbal frags fans. I only have a sample ,but it is FB worth .

It's very sweet and sunny on me, with mint near non-existent, i mostly get currant and mimosa on sugar. I love that the black currant isn't sour here! Overall, the scent plays very straight, without any change, but unfortunately it doesn't last long. While it's there, it's a pure joy, absolutely lovely.

I love it! To me it smelled of ouzo upon spraying (love), then like fancy perfumed writing paper (loove), and...it was gone in 20 minutes :) Greatest 20 minutes though. Wish it would last longer...

geez this stuff is good, initial blast of mint and then powdery mimosa is just to die for, prety linial though.

Pierre Guillaume is one of my favourite perfume houses: everything they make is so unexpected, and most of the time the original combinations they come up with work very well too, so their scents are as wearable as they are interesting. That's true for this Komorebi as well; I agree with one of the reviewers below me who mentioned that this list of notes looks like it shouldn't work together, but it really does. I get mint mostly in the opening, when it's an airy, green, refreshing kind of fragrance, really great for summer. I don't recognize cassis or mimosa or reseda specifically, but I can believe they're there because of the general kind of natural, slightly sweet green character of that opening phase. Minty, but with an edge to make it...yes, interesting. Then very soon the scent starts to retreat closer to the skin, and at the same time the woody/nutty aspect of the fragrance becomes much more dominant. The mint stays there in the background for a while longer, but to my nose this is definitely a woody scent predominantly, because this side of it is what sticks around all day. It's a light, nutty-green kind of woodiness, though, so still pretty summery - like a walk in the coolness of a forest on a hot day when the leaves are still new. It's unisex, maybe slightly more masculine than what I would usually go for myself, but not to the degree that it bothers me. What makes it unique is the combination of/transition between herbal and woody, minty and nutty - it takes a genius like PG to imagine that would work, let alone to execute it successfully! I'd like a bigger decant of this.

This was a blind buy and I like it. Notes do not match what shows up on my skin. This is an extremely woody fireplace scent with chestnuts that will be perfect in fall and winter. Today when this Komorebi perfume arrived it was unusually cold (73 degrees) so I’m not sure how this will react in Arizona high desert heat. This is a very strong skin scent but doesn’t leave a scent trail. It lasted all afternoon 5 hours before I changed to a different scent so that was good. Wish I smelled mint or powdery scent like other reviewers but that never happened, maybe on a hot day it will. I may edit this review later after testing it more.

On me this was a sharply fresh, garden, blackcurrant and leaf scent, gorgeously crisp and natural. Mint can be iffy for me but this one smooths it in nicely with the rest to a great effect overall. Didn't pick out any hazelnut and I don't know what reseda smells like, but the oak's definitely there adding strength and depth. Projection isn't huge and longevity not that strong - like so many other beautiful PG scents - but it's a green idyll while it lasts. Organic and complex and un-sweet enough to be true unisex, too. Reminded me powerfully of Miller Harris Cassis en Feuille, which is very very much cheaper.

Another Pierre Guillaume perfume that I really like. Initially I got a lot of mint (which I love) then it faded quickly to a sweet mimosa with vanilla and spice scent. I know vanilla is not listed so maybe it’s the tonka? I also thought performance was lacking (like the reviewer two down) but Komorebi lingers softly. I hate using the word “interesting”...it’s such a an overused word. But looking at the notes, they don’t seem like they would work and somehow they do. So yeah, that is interesting. I’m really digging this perfumer’s style. And yes, I know I’m late to the Pierre Guillaume game.

Wonderfully unique. Perfect for lovers of refreshing colognes. Sharp and green, it's got something really akin to the wet grassy forests of a far away place. 7/10

It is meant to be 'related' to Yuzu Ab Irato, but other than the same mint note I don't see any other similarities. I really like Yuzu A I, but Komorebi I struggle a bit. Not because there is anything wrong with it, but because it starts heavy and stays heavy. The mint note is a herbal spicy one (in fact really nice), but then reseda amplifies this without anything to provide some contrast. Drydown is creamy-woody and comes as relief, but it's a tough journey getting there. Good performance.

There are quite a lot of PG scents that smell like various cleaning products, and then within that quite a few still that smell specifically like toilet products, and this one is (drum roll)... Urinal cakes! I actually quite like the smell, but lordy lord I don't want to smell of it. I just like it when my toilet smells like that.

Not for me! The combination of notes just smell off. I like mint, but not with mimosa or any of those notes listed here. It’s flat and kind of savory spicy on my skin.

This perfume would satisfy some of my deepest scent cravings: mimosa and mint in one sunny happy fragrance, if only it weren't so shy. An hour after spraying liberally I can just barely find it on skin or clothes. It's a lovely scent, warm and fresh in one, outdoorsy in a mellow way, great! Hope Pierre Guilaume reworks this great idea one day into a stronger version! Edit: Mea Culpa. I was too quick to judge. Komorebi IS shy and soft, but in its own transparent, private way very beautiful. An hour after spraying I thought it had gone, but whenever I moved around airy pale green wafts played hide and seek. Every re-occurence al small joyful surprise. Shame if that playfulness was lost when the notes were to be amped up. It's perfect.

It opens mentholated like a vicksinex. Full of mint, pine resins, fir, patchouli ?, mimosa. Female at the opening it fades slowly like a sort of absinthe,stevia, reminding me of 60's Linetti grease. Tons of tonka come forward more and more along with oak in the long finish with a liqueur touch. It is a dejavu. it reminded me of my grandfather, so I would say more masculine.

Coastal paths and sunset strolls In the opening you are greeted with mint and mimosa that transition to a somewhat dry oak and hazel note with bright undertones of resins. Maybe I shouldn't be suggesting the setting of the fragrance but if you imagine a dry path, the sea, the low sunrays between the shrubbery and the summer you should grasp what this is about.
