Peau d'Ambre 28

A nice balanced, amber with spices, incense, benzoin and resins. A good choice for Fall weather, I like it but I’m not convinced Peau D’Ambre dethrones my favorites: Rania J’s Ambre Loup, L'Artisan's Ambre Extreme, AG's Amber Fetiche and Akkad by Lubin. I do like it better than MFKs Grand Soir which is much brighter on my skin. That said, I’d wear it if I owned it. Linear, easy to wear and perfectly unisex. With above average performance too. Edit: forgot to add my favorite new Amber discovery, Ambre Khandjar by Une Nuit Nomade

The PG website makes a point of including Resins in the notes list and I think that is important. This is more than just your usual ambery perfume, it goes further than that. It is a fantastic composition, where a discreet leather base combines with opoponax, fir and resins, plus a transparent incense note (and thankfully no vanilla). In many ways it feels like a Lutens creation. The opening is particularly beautiful with an accord that I can't quite explain, but it feels like amber-meets-ripe-citrus/orange (it might be the combo of the existing notes). Anything with opoponax is bound to radiate off the skin. Only downside is its average performance. I feel that a composition of this kind should have lasted longer.

It's a nice, syrupy amber that feels incredibly cozy in dull rainy weather. Perfect unisex balance of smoky and sweet. I prefer this to something like Replica By The Fireplace because it's a lot more transparent and less cloying than that over the top vanilla musk in that one. The name of this kind of implied a gentler skin scent but it's definitely not stuffy and overwhelming in its presence. I still prefer balsamics that a little more multifaceted and complex like Chanel Coromandel, it definitely just smells like the sum of its parts, but it's a really well-blended and well done sum of its parts.

Beautifully balanced opening with notes dancing together in unison - boozy amber, fir, incens. Develops rather quickly, though, leaving an aftertaste of something very familiar I can't put my finger on (and which I don't enjoy that much).

A really well balanced and subtle smell. Quite hard to define because none of the notes are over-powering the others. It's a discreet Amber that dances a Valse in an elegant yet fun and authentic Ball, getting lost among the softness and sweet smoke of the Incense and the Benzoin. The Balsamic aspect gives a modern twist on this Amber perfume, and allows it to feel young and energetic while remaining a classic and easy to wear perfume. It's a very dynamic perfume, I can hear La Foule from Edith Piaf when sniffing it.

There is a LOT going on in this scent, a LOT. It has already progressed to the second stage, and for me the resins playing with the fir is what makes me a big fan. Sweet, tasteful resins paired perfectly with fir. Definitely worth a second try...
