Poudre de Riz

I can't justify how much I love this but, boy, do I love this. It's a fascinating melange of gray and sweet notes that shouldn't work together but absolutely do. It really doesn't smell like much of anything on blotting paper and it takes a moment to open on your skin. It opens with a balsam-cedar mix that seems restrained and tight. A few minutes later several sweet notes (to my nose caramel, coconut, maple syrup) join with a fascinating reinforcing effect between cedar and maple. The overall effect is a sweet wood effect, like very freshly cut cherry or maple wood when it's still sappy in the spring. I'm struggling a bit with the name, probably because of my affection for Poopoo Pidoo, which really does smell exactly like old fashioned rice powder. I don't get that at all from this--it's probably more like Dumont Bourbon Vanilla than rice powder. In any case I recommend it but it's hard to categorize. I agree with the woody musk but I'd suggest more gourmand than floral. I got a sample of this perfume and I can say that I like this quite a bit! As the name would suggest, it has a very powdery component to it. There's a dryness coming from the tiare (which is very strong) and rice (more of a medium strength), but a creaminess which underscores it from the basenotes of maple and light sandalwood. This fragrance has a vintage feel to it. To me, I can visualize a kind of 'Gibson girl' smoothing out a wrinkle in an otherwise immaculate tablecloth in preparation for tea on her family's balcony. A warm breeze drifts through the vase of delicate, pale flowers on the table, mixing the sweet blooms and cream pastries with the dreamy essence of a Summer afternoon. The whole scene is cradled in a sense of picturesque grace. All that being said, I'm relatively new to niche fragrance, in my early 20s, and scents tend to read more sweet on me. It lasted about four hours, with moderate sillage. The opening felt a little sharp, in terms of suntan-like-tiare, but give it about an hour and it becomes a light and pretty gourmand fragrance.

I’ve been wanting to get a full bottle for a couple years and completely missed that it was on sale on luckyscent. It should’ve been meeeeeee I’ve been singing this bottles praises for ages now and I miss out I can’t believe it lol. It’s really beautiful. My sample of it probably got the most compliments out of any scent I’ve ever worn. It’s likable yet interesting and complex despite what you see being said below me. Maybe their chemistry wasn’t a match for it but on me it’s this yummy fresh gourmand that’s mature and sophisticated without smelling like you stole grannies bottle out of her boudoir. I’m a guy but androgynous and scents like these are perfect. It’s feminine but not extremely so that people are gonna put it on those videos of hyper feminine scents to seduce men that are all sugar bombs. This has restraint and is beautiful for its own sake

This stuff is worse than crack! Not that I know how crack works, but it can't be worse than this. Once I start wearing this, I can't stop. It's all I ever want to wear. Every 2-3 h I need a new layer and I don't care if I can still smell it on me or not, I just want more. I want to drench myself, swim in it, you name it, I want to do with it. Strangely, I never bought a full bottle. Yes, it's good, better than good, sweet, powdery, flowery, woody. It's deceptively simple. Smells like slightly smashed makeup kit, suntan lotion and maple sirup. I have this feeling that it's little too expensive for what it is and I would go through a full bottle in record time. My bulimic behavior with it frightens me. It's the fluffiest thing ever.

This is beautiful! ...An incredibly comforting and fluffy scent. I love when a powder fragrance has that vintage makeup bag vibe to it without smelling too mature as some powders do, or too immature (e.g. Johnsons). The key is the *rice* powder- it is truly something special. It is sweetened by vanilla, caramel, maple sap and coconut milk. I know there are other notes in this (Tiare, Sandalwood, Tonka, Iris, Benzoin, Balsam, Cedar) but if I DIDN'T know what they were and I sniffed my wrist I would simply say "Horchata and Rose". This is a soft, powdery, floral gourmand masterpiece, So lovely. I sniff my wrist all day long.

A beautiful medley of floral, tropical and gourmand notes. And I love it. The rice note softens the stronger tiara flower, which often comes across like a cheap Hawaiian cocktail on my skin. Here, it melts into the other florals, eventually resembling champaca flower. Absolutely intoxicating. Poudre de Riz is powerful but still delicate at the 4 hour mark. This perfume is a puzzle—with an odd combination of notes—and all the pieces fit perfectly. Both thumbs up. I must have it. EDIT: I now own this bottle. I fricking love it! So beautiful and beyond my expectations. It’s even better than I remembered.

Creamy sweet coconut rice scent with amazing longevity and pretty good projection. It does smell innocent indeed but the opening is a little bit sickly, which is most likely due to combination of coconut (more like condensed coconut milk) with caramel, vanilla and maple syrup. It almost smells like an old fashioned rice pudding made with condensed coconut milk. I kinda like it but at the same time am not sure about it as I really struggle with milky notes, especially the sweet ones. The drydown is worth the wait though, lovely powdery innocent rice scent. Definitely worth a try in my opinnion.

This is such a really pretty powdery Iris, vanilla and rose on a bed of amber and sandalwood. It's sweet but no where near gourmand. It smells slightly vintage but in a good way. I get the rice and maple sap but they're in the background holding everything together. I really like this. It's feminine and dainty. Even though it's powdery, I still get some warm, creaminess from it. Body heat really opens up and transforms this fragrance as you wear it. Uniquely beautiful! I haven't found a Pierre Guillaume fragrance that I've disliked so far. He's quickly becoming one of my favorite perfumers.

Finally, a rose fragrance I enjoy! The gourmand and wood notes soften and sweeten the rose to make it airy and modern. To my nose, it’s a very creamy soap fragrance. Too often, rose fragrances are so astringent they make me feel a little nauseous. I keep trying new rose perfumes in hopes of broadening my horizons, to no avail...until now. Pierre Guillaume continues to surprise and enchant me with his fragrances (Alphaora is one you should also try). I suspect I’ll be purchasing a bottle of Poudre de Riz this spring.

Poudre de riz starts with a big opening, heavy on the rose. It rounds into something weirdly reminiscent of Mugler's Alien but perhaps a bit less harsh, with a bit less billowing, and a touch less drama. As a result, this is much more wearable than the Mugler to me. I get very little coconut until the very very end of the dry down. When the scent settles, I get a sharp sweetness, rounded out by some powdery elements, that gives me a deep purple feeling.

I got the tiare flower immediately. Then, a touch of cedar to offset the scent of Mexican horchata - almonds and a touch of spice. Honestly, it smells like something tantalizing. Soft, melting, delicious, and dries down to the balsam and sandalwood. Sillage is close to the skin, but I wouldn't want it any other way, since it makes the smeller want to lean in close. Instant, intense love.

A scent of impact, a "make-up" type dustiness, with a veil of mystery. It is an unusual, modern and enveloping perfume! this is a beautiful perfume, you are enveloped in a romantic, nocturnal and intense aura! Melancholic and unforgettable ... Very beautifull! Sillage: 7.5/10 Longevity: 8./10 Scent: 9./10 Overall: 9./10

Poudre de riz, French for rice powder is a sensual comforting perfume slightly floral but mostly a combination of powdery sweet materials such as vanilla, benzoin, tonka and tolu, which mediates between them and the rose.

What an amazing perfume. It’s so seductive. It smells creamy, fluffy and floral. I would say that this is unisex leaning more feminine. So welcoming and not that overpowering. Definitely worth a try

I love it, a powdery heaven. Resembles Putain des Palaces, but more plesant: more powdery and less sharp. Sillage isn't much on mw though

Poudre de Riz is a soft, sweet, comforting and powdery perfume that is slightly floral and vintage-like in nature, yet never smells too dated. It is the scent of a beautiful and elegant face cream. I wish I got some toasted rice from this, as that would be incredibly delicious; and the only other time I ever got that note was in Kenzo’s Amour (and unfortunately I couldn’t wear it, because the vanilla smelt like chemicals on me). It then develops into a creamy, slightly milky or lactonic fragrance, that continues into the dry-down and reminds me vaguely of some sort of dairy free milk, such as almond milk. There is something incredibly sweet in this, that I think is the maple sap, which is sweet in an edible kind of way, or it could be a combination of notes. I find it delicious. This scent really feels like something I’d love to own, and wear often, especially during the cooler months, because I am starting to enjoy it more with each and every wear. Excellent projection on my skin; moderate to heavy sillage, but never overwhelmingly heavy, as this one meshes well with my skin chemistry (unlike Teint de Neige, which was a beast of powdery proportions on me). I never found this bothersome, but others could very well, so I'd be mindful of your sprays. Very well-blended and really long-lasting, longevity was for about 10 hours on me. This is not super powdery on me. I will say that I am a powder person, but what happens with some scents is that the powder tends to “sink” into my skin, and I get mostly whatever was "supporting" the powder, with occasionally a little bit of powder that trickles into the dry-down, if that makes any sense at all. This is what seems to be happening here. I’m not getting a huge amount of vanilla either, I don’t think, which is excellent, and this may be due to the blend. Heavy vanilla has a habit of ruining a lot of scents for me, and here, due to the heavy sweetness from the other notes, it might be a rare occasion that it has actually been crowed out, when it is normally the vanilla that crowds out the other notes for me! But I will see what happens with multiple wears, as only time will tell :)

The top notes of "Poudre de Riz" is something so especially beautiful that I kept reapplying from my vial until it was all gone! So I had 1ml of dab sample and I applied a bit at first to be swept away by such a beautifully innocent scent of warmness, sweetness and all things fluffy/pretty that I couldn't stop sniffing myself. Within two hours though it almost dissapears so I had the urge to apply again and I did this for all day long until my 1ml was gone. So "Poudre de Riz" doesn't last so long and it also doesn't project heavily, it's really something one wears just for themselves and maybe those special someones around who get to get especially close. Given this - if I'd decide to splurge on a bottle (and believe me the scent is so good that I do consider this) I would probably use the bottle up within months due to fact that I'd be feeling the urge to reapply which I actually never do with my other scents, because I do have a rule of min. staying power etc when I buy. "Poudre de Riz" is...so pretty. It's not sensual/sexy/elegant and all those other words I could use, it's just...NICE. Like the nicest thing I've tried in a long time. It's like clean babies. Like almond body oil on a perfectly clean skin. Like 'almost-there' hair conditioner. It's like skin after sunbathing for long time, when you feel that your skin almost smells like summer itself - pretty, nice and sweet. I would buy the bottle if it lasted longer.

Poudre de Riz is strong stuff: it's a real bomb of very sweet powder. I get mostly just powder and rice, but then I'm susceptible to suggestion and often inclined to smell what a name promises. When I take a look at the other notes, they do make sense, especially the sweet ones like coconut, vanilla and maple syrup; I don't get much of a floral vibe at all. Like I said, the main characteristic of this one is how strong it is: I've only used one spray this morning, and it's still radiating its extreme powdery sweetness like it's on fire. I'm impressed, but I can easily see how others have found it too much, even slightly suffocating, if they're not powder lovers. I also wouldn't want to come near this in even slightly warmer weather, but in the middle of winter it seems fitting, sweet and comforting and yes, innocent, without smelling at all edible. Even so, its pure power makes it unfit for daily or even monthly use, I think: it's going on my want list, but a little decant is probably all I'll ever need.

My mother was not a glamour lady but this smells like what I would have smelled had I gone into a friend’s mother’s boudoir in the late 1970s, and that mother was glamorous. Her old wood vanity graced with an ornate mirror would have been strewn with some big powder puffs and open containers of scented powder, and there would have been perfume bottles as well, used almost to the dregs but containing the last bits of some of the all time classics from the previous two decades, and their scent would have lingered in the air. Maybe there would be a lightly scented satin peignoir strewn across the velvet chaise next to the vanity, and a strand of pearls resting across one of the powder puffs. This is what Poudre de Riz smells like to me. Complete and utter and unapologetic glamour, with a touch of old school perfumes but not in a granny way, in a classic and confident way.

It’s a very singular, original perfume that opens quite strongly, with something that reads to me as a sweet sake note. In the dry-down, it settles into a soft, powdery, sweet Asian scent: a little like the warm towels you are given on an Asian airline, or in a high-end restaurant just before dinner is served. Comforting, elegant and slightly ceremonial. For me, the tiare flower, rice, iris and tolu balsam really stand out. I like it very much, although I’m not sure I would want a full bottle, as it is such a distinctive scent.

This is something so vintage and oldschool about this fragrance - I don't know what a Parisian girl from the 1960s smelled like but I imagine it was like this. Ultra feminine, playful, just sophisticated enough to be a lady but not enough to be stuffy and serious. This fragrance is very French in composition. I picture this on a girl with a collared blouse and a mini skirt strutting down the Champs Elysees.

This smells just like it's name! Rice powder. It is a calm and comforting back-ground-scent. Even though i love it, it doesn't have the WOW factor. There is a French brand who specialises in house perfumes and candles and such, they also have a Poudre de Riz in their collection. It is the same! If you are looking for a soft scent which cocoons you, but is not in your face then this is the one for you.

To my nose this is a powdery, creamy, a little spicy ambery vanilla floral rose. Really pretty and more feminine to me. This is lovely if you like "glamour scents" as someone stated earlier.

I am not able to distinguish individual notes here. But the whole smells like a firni desert without the cardamom. After 40 min it turns more powdery than milky on me.

Smells a bit like my sweater the day after I've worn the magificant Iris Poudre. The note list is far fetched to say the least. Another OK scent from PG.

Windex... until it dries down and becomes much better. Scent- 6/10 for me

When I first tried this I was taken aback, the opening is completely different from what I expected. This starts with a syrupy sweet, plummy rose with strong undertones of plastic and an artificial clean vibe. The syrupy note doesn't remind me of the listed maple syrup or caramel, it smells fruity and not warm. No rice powder in sight and honestly not my taste at all. But as the fragrance progresses, a soft cosmetic powder unfolds, consisting of dry vanilla, coconut and even a hint of the titular rice I was looking for. The screechy rose gradually moves to the background and the scent gets warmer and more natural smelling. The longer I wear it, the more I like it. The final drydown is completely different from the beginning. As there are other options with powdery vanilla and coconut or more pronounced rice notes, I personally don't see any reason to suffer through the opening. On the plus side this is quite an original blend of notes though, so it might be worth a try if you enjoy all of them.

If someone is looking for the twin of this sweet potion, it’s closed to the Iris by l’Erbolario. The sandalwood and the tiare are obviously giving a « rice » feeling, half compact face powder (poudre de riz), half silky warm pudding, but not bad at all. Just a little bit boring in a very gentle way. I need more twist, drama and emphasis in a fragrance to keep using it.

The notes seem wonderful, but I imagined it completely different. Basically, it smells like clothes washed with cheap laundry detergent. Not a bad thing. The perfume is nostalgic, cosy, clean. I don't find any resemblance to Putain des Palaces.

Powdery Rose bomb. I have kept this way too long and I really don’t know why. I think it gets more vintage the longer I own it.

Powdered sugar rose with a hint of Windex.

This comes across as 95% similar to baby powder to my nose, with a hint of added complexity and other notes. Unfortunately I’m not getting any of the rice which is what drew me to the fragrance. If you like baby powder type scents then I do think you might really love this because it is well done and soft and elevated. Just not for me.

Lemony, citrusy vanilla with milk and rose. Not bad but synthetic smelling, could work as an air freshener. I can't see wearing it but will be sniffing it until my sample runs out. It's the coconut that gives it the plastic feeling, as it slowly surfaces after the lemon blast opening.

Rice, liquor, and a floral opening. A bit boozy and starchy, with peeking flowers. Vanilla, tonka, and benzoin, balsamic and sweet, almost coconutty. Then, the tiare blooms and powdery iris joins. I get zero rose. It's super weak, discombobulated, fast paced, and not worth it. The beginning burns the nose and then it disappears. The end result is beautiful, soft, rice powder, but how did i get here? Eww, after it really dries down, it almost smells sour. I thought I picked up the wrong test strip.

I'm yet to find a Tiare flower fragrance which would be suitable for a man to wear. There's something inherently feminine about it in my opinion but that doesn't detract from this being a nice perfume. Despite the focus on tiare I'd say the main note is a lighthearted rose smell when it's all settled down and that's safe and crowd pleasing to most people. The opening is quality, sweet florals with a touch of the tropical about it, putting me in mind of something kinda Hawaiian. I think it might be the vanilla and touch of coconut making Poudre de riz a bit gourmand at times but with a warm ambery base and although I don't really detect tolu balm or even know what rice smells like I can believe they are in the mix. This is because it smells complex and very much a go to, quality powdered floral for women...basically it's versatile. The quality of this is undouubted and I don't know what it costs but I suspect it isn't cheap. My knowledge of similar perfumes is lacking but I think you might get something similar cheaper. I liked it though but from a practical point of view I could never wear it myself.

This is a gorgeous fragrance.......soft, slightly spiced and sweet. I do think this is sexy actually unlike others. It is not over the top like some proclaimed sexy fragrances. The rice powder reminds me of my mother’s old Max Factor Creme-Puff Make up compact with a bit more woods added in. It reminds me of tanned skin at the end of the day when the oils have stayed on the skin for hours. There is a bit of tropical freshness there. The opening is tiara flower on me. I prefer the scent as it transitions to rice, caramel, coconut and Tonka bean - actually reminds me of a rice pudding with white chocolate sweetness, but with a rose background. I would say give it a good hour and a half to develop.....the changes are worth waiting for. I have never really been a sweet fragrance lover, but the powder in this rounds it out and makes it quite well blended and smooth. This will be yummy as Fall and Winter approaches. I will wear this for me...not sure yet if compliments will come, but that is okay.

Well, it's better than Vohina. It's not blaringly obvious that it's coconut in that it sidesteps the chemical terrors that you might expect from the "coconutTM" section of Bath and Body Works. The rice is subtle and delicately floral, with sugary notes that are kept in check throughout. Yet it does open with the kind of shrill, sweet powder that invades a number of scents from this line. This opening settles fast into the understated coconut-floral heart, but just like others from the brand, it smells far too much like hair products to be taken seriously.

Poudre de Riz: to my nose a fragrance with completely opposite qualities from its name. I was expecting a fluffy, ethereal, soft cloud of a scent, when I encountered a strong, ambery perfume in the style of What we do in Paris is a secret. No individual notes I can recognise, and sadly the composition feels a bit synthetic. Glad I purchased a sample, given I was ready for yet another blind buy after reading the notes and reviews. Its style also reminds me a bit of Calypso from Piguet; they evoke the same atmosphere in my opinion

I'd been looking forward to trying this one out for a while now, and I was a little disappointed when it went on. The dainty elements are all there (rose, rice, iris, sandalwood), however, the woody-resin elements were nearly non-existent for me, unfortunately. I sorely wanted to experience a balance of the two, and whilst this is quite a nice smelling scent, it wasn't 100% what I personally was looking for. The benzoin kinda comes out towards the end, but not anywhere near enough to what I was hoping for...

The notes looked so promising...I like them all individually, but in this fragrance they create a cacophony of sorts. It opens with a soapy smell of tiare flower. It's not a creamy, exotic, Hawaiian tiare - it's a sharp, soapy one. Then it slowly turns more powdery and sweet. I don't personally detect the rice note, it just turns into a tonka-iris mix, with a tiny bit of benzoin in the background. It's interesting, but not for me - I cannot stand the opening.

Powdery rose Panna cotta. It is both toiletries-fresh and milky smooth with gourmand tendencies. The dry down is very pretty and sandalwood-y which makes me wonder if it is really that feminine as the first impression suggests... all notes can be felt at one point or another, including the coconut and tiare, which definitely give it summer vibe. To me this is very easy to wear and enjoy as a day scent.

This is a very fluffy, cozy, romantic scent. It feels like a vintage Boudoir perfume. It is a gorgeous powdery floral with some gourmand touches. It feels like it could be a child of Dior Poison Hypnotic with a more floral,ambery and resinous scent. I am glad I was able to obtain a little decant. I would like to buy a full bottle.

The scent of powdered sugar maple donuts perhaps? It reminds me of a cross between V&R Bonbon and Wildfox. Unfortunately powder is what's making this hard to wear in the heat. Testing this in summer I find it difficult to breathe with this on. I will try again in the cooler weather.

Powder, violet/rose lipstick notes, and a perfume-y sharp (sandal, I bet) edge that doesn’t detract. A bit more sticky powdery than my beloved Rouge Assassin, though, so I'll go with the Rouge Assassin.

Booze for the first couple seconds then turns into a nice floral powder. The sweetness is nicely done.
