Gilda

This beauty is now manufactured by Marquis Parfums Paris and I'm reviewing the one made under that brand. There may be a chance the perfume got the Rumba treatment and switched owners or the company changed their name after Pierre Wulff left. The bottle is still pretty much the same in the pic except for the Gilda logo is on the golden plastic cap. The top of the cap has the flower design of the vintage cap. Mine came in a long tin casing with pretty much the same logo as the vintage except it says Parfums Gilda France Marquis Parfums Paris instead of Pierre Wulff Paris. Inside is another paper carton similar to the tin casing. The casing and the bottle now has batch codes on them. Now onto the scent. The opening reminded me of vintage Clairol Herbal essences shampoo with a crapton of florals. The mid to drydown becomes woody and powdery. The current formulation lasts only 3 hours on my skin though. The sillage is moderate at the first hour then fades to near nothing after. Edit: The frag costs approximately 16 USD (sans shipping) in my place. Edit 2: I sadly have to part with it, its pathetic life on my skin just won't cut it anymore. I'm reaching for my Alharamain Urbanist Intense Femme more because it beats everything Gilda offers on me by miles.

Gilda, are you decent? - Me? [long pause] Sure! I'm decent. I am so much in love with this fruity-rich-tuberose perfume, have got it blindly in EDP 100 ml art deco bottle, - no regrets at all. Most balsamic, warm, lush tuberose, neroli and jasmine, sweetened by pineapple on very feminine base from ylang, amber and benzoin. Starts loud, like Rita Hayworth throwing her hair up and down, very dramatic heart, like Rita's destiny and sweet melancholic base, like our memory of her. I can not call Gilda vintage smelling fragrance, it is sooo mature, mouthwatering and smart, so strong, yet so romantic. At some point it is one of very few tuberose-based fragrances I love and CAN actually wear without suffocation, another one is Fath de Fath and Balenciaga's Michelle. Gilda, you are not decent, you are tantalizing.

I was gifted this in the 90s and enjoyed it (though it was too mature for me) and I recently went down memory lane and got myself a bottle. Wow the nostalgia! The opening is green/aldehydes/citrus then you get sandalwood, ylang-ylang, pineapple, tarragon, bergamot, cedar & amber. The magic happens in the dry down when they all melt together and create a powdery semi-sweet uplifting haze. It's actually quite potent (definitely made in an era when perfumes had to compete with cigarette smoke*) Gilda gives the sensation of sunshine in a cedar forest as you hold a sweet floral bouquet while wearing a sandalwood beaded bracelet. I absolutely love it. Perfect for warmer weather and for only around $15 it's a great value & a must have for any vintage collection.

It’s strange no body talks about the similarity between Gilda and Estée Lauder beautiful they are very similar but i think Gilda a bit stronger and the dry down is more sweeter/warmer than beautiful , and this perfume getting better and better every hour of wearing it , even if you still wearing it the next day it smells better than the day before . Be ware of blind buy it , it’s not for everyone . Is this perfume Vintage yes on good way , mmmmm I think if you love Fred Hayman 273 and Estée Lauder beautiful you will definitely love this one because it’s combination of the two in my opinion .

Gilda is a rich vintage floral with a green, citrusy opening and a warm, creamy heart. It starts fresh with bergamot, pineapple, and a touch of tarragon, then melts into a cloud of white flowers like tuberose, ylang-ylang, and jasmine. As it dries down, sandalwood, amber, and vanilla give it a soft, powdery warmth. It feels nostalgic, cozy, and bold at the same time. If you love vintage-style florals with a sweet woody base, this is a hidden gem.

I wore this in the early 1990's and I got more compliments on this fragrance than any other fragrance I have ever worn. My boyfriend (at the time) actually asked me to stop wearing it in public, because I always had men coming up to me to tell me how wonderful it was and asking me the name of it. I continued to wear Gilda and got rid of the boyfriend. I'd LOVE for this fragrance to be manufactured, again!!

Gilda is very green opening, almost reminding me of Chanel #19. Beautiful and interesting combination of orchid, vanilla, sandalwood, and cedar in the mid that I enjoy in Vanderbilt Reverie as well. Dries down to a soft tuberose. I love this fragrance and loathe its rarity. I feel lucky to have it in my collection!

I used to wear Gilda in the early 90's but when I was about to buy a new bottle it had disappeared from the market. I searched for it everywhere and finally, after many many years I found it on internet abroad and managed to get a couple of bottles with a slightly darkened juice. Thank god for internet! However, Gilda is actually one of my best vintage smelling fragrance. Eventhough it is created in the mid 80's it actually refers to Rita Hayworths famous role in the 30's. Therefore it has more similarities with Rochas Femme and other early creations than with any 80's fragrance. Gilda has sweet gourmand notes in the top from the pinapple, but not edible fruitnotes. Just a little bit to create a delicious take off. Quite soon it becomes more dry and woody and I can smell strong tobacco notes in the flowery heart deriving from the mix between peppery carnation, amber and various woods. It is actually here I get most of the "vintage" smell: It strongly resembles the smell from a womans purse: perfume, pastilles and tobacco, and it has a dry powdery quality that reminds me of the aged cloth on the inside of the purse. In the end Gilda becomes softer, sweeter and more sensual from the basenotes. I adore the bone structure, longevity and sillage of this fragrance and as a Lindy Hop dancer I mostly wear it in special dance evenings, when I want to take the time machine back to the 40's.

Nose Note #344 Smells like a lot of other fragrances of its time, even the presentation and the color of the bottle is telling. The other one I have that's similar is Doriane Yves de Sistelle. Ylang-ylang, orange flower, jasmine, pineapple, amber, vanilla, sandalwood. As if they even mix the ingredients in same proportions fragrance to fragrance. The opening is definately going after Chanel #19. Same as Silences Eau de Parfum Sublime Jacomo. Bitter herb very reminicent of the pod of the peas (i.e. the coating). That goes away quicker here and evolves into a powdery mildly sweet ylang-ylang-sandalwood scent. Definately nice. Very sad that these kind of DNAs are out of trend. Now this is considered an "old lady" fragrance. But look at the promotion photo, that woman was supposed to be the target audience.

I found a vintage-bottle of Gilda and WOW what a scent it is. I guess its about 20 years old and smells absolutely gorgeous! Sweet Pineappale, vanilla and nice flowers. Longlived on my skin. Never thought I would have the chance to try this one, and now I have =) Not my type of perfum but a great perfum it is. Jag hittade en vintage-flaksa och WOW vilken doft! Jag gissar att flaskan är över 20 år gammal men doftar helt ljuvligt fortfarande. Söt Ananas och vanilj med en rejäl dos fina blomnoter. Långlivad på min hud. Trodde aldrig jag skulle få prova den men nu har jag det. Inte min typ av favoritdofter men en härligt doft, det är det =)

This is still my favorite perfume, although I haven't worn it in years! By far, it was the most complimented upon perfume by the opposite sex. At first spray, I hated it; I think maybe the pineapple seemed too overpowering and out of place. But then it had the most beautiful dry down, and a softly interesting (not overwhelming) scent. Playful & seductive. It is more of an evening perfume, but I wore it all of the time. I just wore a lot less during the day or in the summer. I've never found anything to replace it. I would comment more on the notes, but as I haven't actually smelled it or worn it years, I really can't. I can only comment on the sweet & unforgetable memory that it envoked. This perfume being discontinued, really broke my heart. I'm still not over it.

Wow - aldehydeblast in my face ! Then heaven is opening up - oo this is a great fragrance - the sweetnotes are soft and gentle - but the tarragone sticks up his green head saying: Se me, smell me. I wish more people could smell this masterpice of a perfume. The old make-up note making it feel even more vintage - like in the 30 ies. The notes are in perfect harmoni, sweet, floral and greennotes all intermingles. The powderynote is getting stronger and stronger. It is not a typical 80 powerhouse at all. It is strong indeed but after drydown it softens even more and in the end I am left with a soft smell of babypowder.

I had a sample of this when I was around 10 years old and I loved it. This is THE ONE perfume from my childhood that I really loved and of course I cannot get my hands on it today *almost crying* It would be so great to smell it today and see if I still love it, but until that miracle happens - I wish! haha - at least I have Laura Biagiottis Romamor that reminds me a bit of Gilda :)

Big bold, impressive sillage. Pineapple is really prominent and mouthwatering in the early stages. Lush tuberose. Really beautiful dry down.
