The Exact Friction of Stars

I actually had to try this several times. At first I was unsure of what to think - I did pick up on the coconut first but it wasn't something that I thought I would purchase. The longer it was on my skin - the more addicted I became. A few more tries and I began to notice other notes emerging. First the coconut moving into chocolate marshmallow caramel vanilla goodness...but with something extra and I just cannot figure it out - is it the orange or something else. It has a boozy appeal to it (in a good way). I tried the matching lotion and it is a lighter (in scent) rendition and somewhat creamier (as opposed to boozy). The lotion makes my skin very soft. I would not expect it to make the perfume last longer though as the scent is very light in the lotion but while it is on I do enjoy it (especially before bed). The perfume lasts a decent amount of time...but not as long as others have mentioned that it lasts on them. (unless I am just numb to it since I am wearing it a lot). I would love to try the oil. (I MUST like this a lot since I seem to have written a book about it!) giggle

This scent actually hit something very personal for me, and I will get to that in a bit. Out of the vial I smell citrus (like it's been cooked), vanilla and creamy coconut. At first on the skin I smell that baked citrus mixed with a creamy coconut and a bit of spice and almost earthiness...maybe the coffee and chocolate. After the citrus starts to blend in more I mostly smell coconut and a waxiness, like crayons and a bit of pencil lead and shavings.....BUT not in a bad way. Here is where it gets personal for me. I love to draw (not with crayons, but definitely love pencil sketches) and this scent REALLY calms me. I am reminded of fall and baked creamy, spicy, citrusy goodness mixed with art materials. I know that it is a weird combination, but I really love it. So incredibly soothing. I will one day purchase this and I will regularly enjoy the calm that it brings me. It's so strange, but so familiar and good.

This starts out as a DEAD-ON creme brulee scent. Right down to the egg, milk, and fire-melted sugar. It is simply incredible. It stays like that for a few hours, but then, it quiets down to a true vanilla. It isn't the cotton candy, syrup-y sweet vanilla like Outremer Vanille, and it lacks the strong chocolate and orchid notes of Vaniglia del Madagascar by Profumi di Firenze. Several hours ago I decided I really didn't like to smell like creme brulee. But now, after sniffing my wrist again, I may have to set down the money because the outcome is honestly a really genuine vanilla, as in grabbing-the-crystal-covered-bean-itself kind of genuine. And with a name like "the exact friction of stars" - who can say no!

I recently got a sample of Exact Friction of Stars to try after wanting it for years based on positive reports. I get an impression of coconut and almond cookie, with chocolate coming in later on, that's very cozy and girlie, perfect for college casual, or at home casual wear. Delicious!

Delicious chocolate coconut vanilla perfume. I want to eat it!!! I had the oil and it was very long-lasting. Very warm scent but suits all seasons. IMO suits a young spirit as dessert smelling perfumes don't tend to suit over 25's!

They sent me 3 tiny samples and I was in love immediately. I bought all the notes and made my own incense from them. Im my top 30 scents for sure.

Warm melted chocolate, sugar cookie, and toasted almonds--an ultimate gourmand. Another must-have for my collection.

Back in college, a Brazilian housemate got me hooked on Queen Helene's Cocoa Butter Lotion, and I used it religiously for years. This is exactly what Exact Friction smells like to me -- a liquid fragrance version of Queen Helene's Cocoa Butter Lotion. I always enjoyed the subtle scent of this lotion, so this is not necessarily a bad thing, except for the mental image it conjures up of...lotion. XD Kind of ruins the whole gourmande aspect for me (it was under the Gourmande section at Lucky Scent, though I see that it's labeled a vanilla oriental here...which doesn't quite fit either). Trying to break it down for the benefit of others -- Vanilla, very clean soapy white chocolate, and a hint of coconut. Maybe some very very mild white flowers. It is a mild and gentle fragrance, intimate. ETA: After a couple of hours, Exact Friction is delivering on those gourmand promises with a soft and subtle white chocolate dry-down. I can smell the similarity to Serendipitous that others have mentioned. I would call this Serendipitous' romantic white chocolate sister.

I have no idea what coconut cake has to do with stars, be they celestial or human, nor is there any obvious connection with friction, unless it’s the rubbing of coconut on a grater. However, this sweet coconut isn’t the fresh grated kind, it’s the unnaturally moist, corn syrup-soaked and artificial vanilla-flavored kind that’s used in baking coconut cakes, coconut cream pies, and topping coconut donuts. As it dries down it starts to smell exactly like a coconut-vanilla car air freshener, the kind shaped like a yellow fir tree. There’s plenty of sillage, the scent is linear, and it lasts 5-6 hours. I actually kind of like coconut notes in perfumes, so I don’t find Exact Friction off-putting, at least not when it comes out of a plain sample vial. After seeing a photo of the garish bottle, though, maybe I’ll change my mind, especially when that bottle is coupled with the strong car deodorant association.

The Exact Friction of Stars is a tasty, sweet and pleasing gourmand scent. I get mainly coconut and almond extract, even though the notes listed above don’t seem to reflect that. It’s very creamy, with hints of chocolate and coffee in the heart notes. The blood orange never really makes an appearance on my skin. The notes listed above sound like they would add up to something quite unique, but this perfume does not strike me as particularly unusual. I enjoy it, but it’s missing some sort of edge to separate it from the many other sweet vanilla gourmands I’ve sniffed. It’s worth sampling if you're a fan of coconut and/or gourmand fragrances, but for me it’s not a must-have in my wardrobe.

Almond, coconut milk and butterscotch vanilla with a light and airy orange that mellows over time. The coconut is mild and smooth, don't be afraid it'll be too synthetic or harsh like coconut can be. I agree it's reminiscent of Baileys in some ways, though this is not a chocolate scent according to me. Cute, warm and inviting.

I adored this the first few times I wore it, but then came the chocolate and it ruined my love. This happened with another perfume for me as well. The chocolate in a bottle note pushed me over the edge to nauseated. Everything else about it was perfect. If I could rip out that chocolate note I'd have a winner.

It includes blood orange aroma, rich and dark chocolate, clove, coffee and vanilla. I tried this long ago along with Pink Sugar. Very sweet and cloying, longevity is good. A little one-dimensional, it would benefit from some spiciness.

Smells like a toasting Almond Joy bar! I smell chocolate covered toasted nuts. And it has good staying power for a chocolate gourmand. And, I feel it is different enough from Serendipitious as to warrant purchasing both. Eat up!

Pretty, sweet, and the price tag is more than I would spend again, but I got lots of compliments. Like it, not love it...maybe with a teensy less chocolate.

VioletLily mentioned below that EFoS reminds her a bit of Serendipitous so I just thought I'd mention that I've found layering the two is really something.

I got a sample of this in a Luckyscent order and really liked the sample. It was sweet and reminded me of Serendipitous but not quite AS sweet, and I bought a bottle. The bottle shown online is so pretty with the black and pink label and the flower..I could see this fitting right into my collection. Unfortunately that is not the bottle I got. What I got was a rectangular bottle with no flower and the label is white with black lettering, pretty plain. So that was kind of a let down. Then when I sprayed some of the perfume on a piece of paper I was hit with a strong almost chemical like smell..not the sweet deliciousness that I had sampled from Luckyscent. I then sprayed a little on the back of my hand thinking that sometimes perfumes smell a little different when on the skin and wore it around the house for a few hours, periodically smelling my hand and noticing no change. I then sprayed a little of my Serendipitous on another part of my hand and that one was so sweet and sooo good!! Way better than The Exact Friction of Stars (maybe that magical Tahitian vanilla that I love so much?). They are a little similar in the fact that I could pick up the cocao and the orange in both but that is where the similarity stops. Not exactly a fan of The Exact Friction of Stars as it stands right now so since I read that this is an indie company I have put my bottle in my closet and am going to let it sit there for a while and try it again to see if the juice gets any sweeter with time. I will post an update on my thoughts then. Edit (03/07/23): So after letting this set for a few days there has not been much change in the harsh smell I am getting from it (which really boggles me since the sample I tested was wayyy sweeter and yummier!) Still going to let it sit for a little while longer but I do have to say that Serendipitous is WAYYY better as far as smelling sweet and yummy! I just wish Serendipitous lasted longer! Edit #2 (05/03/23) I finally decided that I like Serendipitous way more than this one so I let Exact Friction of Stars go. I just could not deal with that harshness in it.

This opens up very sweet. The notes on fragrantica are questionable to my nose, I can't find them on any other site and honestly, this doesn't smell like coffee or chocolate at all. Maybe a really light, inexpensive chocolate for children, but that's a stretch. In the beginning I get orange flavored candy that reminds me of something from the 90s (not sure what exactly) and plasticy vanilla, like a scented candle. It's cloying and sickly to me, very artificial and not sophisticated. Surprisingly, the drydown is okay. It's still very sweet and foody, but smells tasty. The weird fruit candy note is gone. Crème brûlée, coconut cake and roasted sugary almonds come to my mind. This stage lasts quite long. I tried another scent from this brand (To Twirl All Girly) and overall I'm not impressed. They smell like something someone would mix together at home with a couple of perfume oils, matching the craft project look of the bottles.

I desperately wanted to like this perfume. A "sexy vanilla" with a name like The Exact Friction of Stars? I was so excited when my sample came. However, on me, so far this scent is boring, cheap vanilla at best and bitter almond at worst. (The bitterness has lasted at least 2 hours and is finally fading a bit in the dry down, but now it's a bland sort of vanilla.) I don't hate it, especially now that the bitterness has mostly gone, but this is not the sexy, cozy vanilla I was looking for. Normally my skin brings out the warmth or spiciness in a scent, but this time around it was only almond, almond, almond. Very disappointed.

Not the one for me. All I could smell for oh, about three to four hours is limey coconut. Now im getting some soft vanilla. But I just ca t get past the lime smell that keeps peepin out!! I'll keepthe tiptoeing through the chambers of the Moon and to twirl all girly and leave this one be. I know many find it a lovely scent I just am not one of those folks.

One word comes to mind with this fragrance: Pointless. I do not smell anything after initially applying it. At first application, I smell car air freshener. The kind someone mentioned below that looks like a tree. For the price that it is, you would expect more. This is definitely a dislike for performance alone. Low sillage, low longevity.

Vanilla blended with dried fingerpaint (that kind of paint kids use in pre-school). Just as dull, bad and not worth any money at all as all of Pilar and Lucy ́s fragrances in my opinion.

There is vanilla and chocolate, but somehow, I also get leather and pink pepper, I'm guessing from the cloves and oranges. It opens nice, but goes a bit off on the drydown for me.

Unfortunately, the coconut drowned out everything else on my skin so it smells EXACTLY like a suntan lotion. Beware of this one. Not as safe a "blind-buy" as it seems. Sigh... :(

A very boring vanilla scent,reminds me of vanilla ice cream..nothing special

This is for the oil and perfume: They both smell absolutely delicious in the bottle, like all of the vanilla, chocolate, orange, and coffee notes listed. However, as soon as this fragrance hits my skin it smells like a flat, diluted, plasticky vanilla candle from a cheap candle store. One of the worst gourmands ever.

Super sticky sickly sweet and impossible to wash off.

The Exact Friction of Stars is a sweet and flirtatious vanilla gourmand. It's one of my favourites in this category, but I must admit that it can be linear at times. It opens very sugary and candy-like on the skin, with vanilla, coconut and orange. It reminds me straight away of vanilla icecream and hard-boiled caramel candies. It's one niche fragrance that I wouldn't hesitate to suggest to young women, or anyone with a sweet tooth. Thankfully this fragrance has been skilfully blended, so as not to smell cheap or nauseating. The chocolate accord is more noticeable in the heart. It tends to be milky and soft, never overpowering the dominant vanilla. If anything, it smells a little bit like a Bounty chocolate bar. The Exact Friction of Stars is a great fragrance to wear while binging on all the naughty foods that our waistline never agrees with. I thought this fragrance might have been a hit with men, especially seeing that sugary gourmands often grab their attention. Unfortunately my boyfriend didn't like it, and commented on it being a bit too strong. In retrospect, I agree that the sillage is quite loud, but I still don't find it offensive. In addition to the strong projection, The Exact Friction of Stars also lasts the whole day on the skin. There's a lot to love about this perfume, however it does have the odd negative review, so I probably wouldn't blind buy this one. A sample can be found on Lucky Scent. I was starting to move on from gourmands, but The Exact Friction of Stars has renewed my love for them. I'll be wearing this a lot when Winter comes.

Well, it's interesting. The overall impression for me is buttery English toffee and cheap vanilla-scented candles. It's half pricey gourmand and half candle-and-potpourri aisle at Walmart. It's not a bad smell, but not a smell I'd choose to wear as my perfume. It's a smell I would gladly choose in a wax melt to use in my tart warmer for fall and winter. I actually pick up a waxy/candle note in the composition. I do love that it conjured up a long-forgotten memory from my childhood. We didn't have much money, but there was a well-to-do elderly lady next door who my parents helped look out for. One Christmas, she gave our family a box of Queen's Lace: a rich candy made of English toffee and butterscotch ribbons drizzled on parchment paper to make a delicate filigree lace pattern. It came in a blue satin box tied with a velvet ribbon. I had never seen anything so beautiful yet edible; my sister and I felt so sophisticated sitting at the worn dining room table in our footie pajamas eating precious little pieces of that candy lace--all in the warm glow of vanilla Christmas candles found on clearance at Woolworth's. I wouldn't want to wear it on my person, but i really do wish they made wax tarts. This would be my go-to winter room scent. Not hardly worth the niche price tag imho, but I'm so glad I purchased the sample just for the unexpected trip down a forgotten sidestreet of memory lane.

This is for the oil, rather than the perfume, as I’d heard that it lasted a lot longer. I got a sample of this a while ago and loved it, so this was my request for my birthday present this year. The projection on this is amazing – every time I left my office today, I’d lock it up and when I came back I could smell it as soon as I opened the door; I loved it because it made the office smell like a chocolate shop! Straight away I got a lot of the blood orange and vanilla, and yes, a lot of coconut and almond, even though they’re not listed in the notes. It took about three hours for the chocolate to show up, but it’s not a sickly milk chocolate smell – it’s more a soft, smooth, dark chocolate. This mixes nicely with the clove – I keep getting lovely wafts of both. If you want to kick it up a notch, you could try layering this with a vanilla scent (such as Reminiscence Vanille) or a chocolate or caramel scent (Serendipitous or Love, Hope, Denim) for even more gourmand yumminess! That said, it’s not a necessity – this is quite delicious enough all on its own. Seven hours in, it was still going strong. 11 hours on, and it’s still there – softer, but still noticeable, so the longevity of the oil, at least, is brilliant. Very, very happy with this one.

I received my sample today from luckyscent of this perfume. I am considering buying it because of another fragrantica member's recommendation. I feel as if this scent is sweet, warming, very sugary, but it isn't strong enough for me. I pretty much used the whole sample on all my pulse points, I used a lot of it so I could really get a feel for this one. I love sweet and gourmand perfumes but I like them to be loud, not a skin scent. I heard elsewhere the Bath and Body works Creamy coconut has the same scent, so I have purchased Creamy Coconut instead because Exact Friction of the stars is pretty expensive for a scent I'm not trusting is going to have enough longevity for me. I do like the scent and upon smelling it I think, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate factory, but we are on the candy, lollipop side :)

Sigh...I love my exact friction of stars... Comforting, yet sexy at the same time... it’s just incredibly, credibly scrumptious! I adore the chocolatey, vanillary, coconutty, orangey goodness of it!! The dry-down brings to mind a luscious crème brulee, though it’s not sickeningly sweet. It reminds my man of an After 8 (an after-dinner mint)! And it also reminds me a touch of Serendipitous, though without the coconut and Serendipitous is much more a soft chocolate orange to me. Different enough to have both!! It lasts well on me too. Two very favourable comments I’ve had on EFoS, the first one being that it’s like the aroma of a very fine and expensive sweet pipe tobacco. And the second, “You smell absolutely delicious!”

I found this beautiful scent whilst haunting Luckyscent and ordering a sample. It was (at a minimum) enchanting and yummy at the same time..very much a 'vanilla' scent yet mixed with notes of almond, cocoa & blood orange peeking through. The drydown has just the right amount of vanilla and coconut to get people's attention. I was a haircolourist at the time and a client smelled me and as me to write down the name..she literally ordered it when she walked in her house after smelling it on me! I'd say that's a pretty good endorsement! Hope you find this informative and helpful! Enjoy!

I bought this off LuckyScent.com about 5 yrs. ago and was pleasantly surprised. Yes, it does have an extreme coconut note in it but after about an hr. it dries down to a fabulous Vanilla Oriental with notes of Chocolate & Orang in it. I wore this SO often that one of my clients INSISTED I give her the name and she ORDERED IT on the spot. She said she couldn't not have the scent, it was that beautiful!! I've tried other Pilar & Lucy scents but this one is my "keeper". Give it a try, I don't think you'll be disappointed!! Good luck!

The exact friction of stars was a surprise scent for me. Thanks to rebella I had a chance to try it:) At the beginning there's a very sweet edible scent of caramel, chocolate, vanilla, sweet milkshake, chocolate pudding and ice cream. I can really smell each of these ingredients. And the dry down is such a surprise - on me it smells exactly like the famous Baileys liqeuer! Keep it away from the fans of this drink, they might drink it:) The staying power is also very good.

I do love this smell. I keep sniffing my wrist over and over. I wish there were more "umph" to it though. The other reviews are pretty accurate. It's very gourmand with a hint of smokiness to it. A very interesting scent. Could've been a knock-your-socks-off scent if it were stronger. I've heard the roll-on oil is much more potent; I might just break down and order it. The scent itself is pleasant enough to warrant having around, even if it requires lots of applications.

I have wanted to add this gorgeous gourmand to my collection for over 12 years now and have finally done so. This is delicious! A warm vanilla sponge cake filled with a sweet coconut-rum cream and rolled in sliced almonds and shredded candied coconut. Longevity is 12 hours and sillage is decent without being cloying. This is one of my holy grail fragrances and I'm glad it's finally in my collection.

I am a chocoholic, so really wanted to try this potion. The opening - fabulous: chocolate and I think amaretto? I got super exited, but my excitement lasted for about minute or two and it all went down hill from there. All I was left with - synthetic vanilla. Why?!!

This is surprisingly lighter than what I expected, I applied two hours ago and now I can barely smell it. Maybe I should have applied more, but I applied the usual amount that I do with any fragrance I'm trying. So far I would say this is a nice vanilla fragrance.

Terry's chocolate orange. A bit of toasted coconut. Not original enough for the price--I get asked if I'm wearing Bath and Body Works' (sorry, but none of their 'fragrances' are for me!) Warm Brown Sugar

It's yummy but smells a lot like the Jaqua coconut frosting perfume oil I already own.It reminds me of suntan lotion and butterscotch candy.

Best. Perfume. Name. Ever. Too bad the scent doesn't live up to its edgy, cool name. A likeable coconut vanilla.
