Coastal Veil

I've been looking for a summer scent for a while that breaks the traditional Italian inspired citrus/neroli/aquatic mold that everyone and their great grandfather has worn for as long as anyone can remember. And this just might be it. Costal Veil is masculine leaning and hits you with those marine notes straight out of the spray before the signature Pineward woody aromatic notes take center stage and the seaweed fades into the background. People either love or hate the marine notes as there doesn't seem to be an inbetween but luckily I've gotten far more positive feedback than negatives in that regard. Silage is decent as long as you don't go overboard, longevity is around 5-7 hours at the time of this review but I will have to update it as I use it to see if results change with the weather. Overall highly recommended if you're looking for a different scent this summer. If I had any qualms per se, it would be that some might find Costal Veil boring because its very linear and straightforward. But I feel with a bit of tweaking by the perfumer, it could be the next great trend in men's summer colognes.

Juniper berries forward, seaweed, moss, and cypress with a hint of ambergris in the back. This is very surprising and so unique. It's wet, slightly dirty, damp, cold, atmospheric, natural, and slightly algae green with a hint of a salty mineral note end. Smells like standing on a cliff overlooking an ocean/lake, surrounded by a rocky beach and a green juniper forest in the back on a random dewy morning. It's gloomy, cloudy, the tides are high and misty, it's almost dark on daylight, but it's also calming. This is a literal painting. The sillage and longitivity on the other hand are on the low here, but better worn on skin than clothes not only due to its low projection on paper but also the perfume has a weird dye that probably won't come off easily. Edit: my #1 Fav of the house & the forest collection, immediately a full bottle. This is such a sailor/ boatmen/ pirate/ mermen energy perfume. Edit #2: Apparently, the 32ml of this displayed on this app is very smaller than what it appears. I'd recommend going for a bigger size. And it's also sold out at the site, which is crazy.

This starts off as perhaps the most mainstream-feeling of the Pineward fragrances I've tried, reminiscent of gin-inspired colognes heavy on the juniper and eucalyptus. That opening may not be wildly innovative, but it's very pleasant and well-composed, with the fresh herbs layered over an ambergris core that keeps the former from being flighty or sharp and the latter from being cloying. As this evolves, at least in my experience, the seaweed-y marine notes become more prominent, until it really does remind me of the Oregon coast -- or at least the Oregon coast if I was drinking a G&T on the property of an Australian ex-pat who was really trying to get a eucalyptus stand going, or maybe a beach walk with a guy who'd just used some really good aftershave. This is far from the most striking of Pineward's offerings, but it's beautifully composed and interesting, with quite good performance. (I love Pineward but tend to find their longevity somewhere between abysmal and okay.) Much recommended, especially for Pacific Northwesterners.

I ordered a few samples from Pineward and honestly wasn't expecting such an incredible aquatic perfume. Coastal Veil is a cold windy beach fenced with wet cypress, juniper, and all sorts of lush greenery. It's airy and salty with a damp woodiness. I really can't get enough and I love finding woodier fresher marine perfumes. Just a touch mineralic but I adore that and to top it off it is such a pretty green. What's not to love? Edit: I've never updated a review before but this one just really did something. It lasted so much longer than I initially realized and projected better than I had mentioned. Jumped the gun a bit I suppose. That being said I do still wish it lasted longer, longer meaning forever of course. I'm addicted. Out of all my Pineward samples this one is at the top of my list for a full-bottle purchase surprisingly. I'm not even much of an aquatic girl. It's just too good.

This has been dubbed the "stinky perfume" . . . which everyone LOVES. It is my absolute favourite perfume ever. It smells like: ". . . do I like it? No. I hate it. No. I love it. I'm in love with it. I'll wear it forever. I am a mermaid now. A sea wench who has risen from the ocean floor and I am half alive, sustained by moonlight and barnacles, and I am horrible and beautiful and you will follow me into the ocean and drown and become one with the filtered green light and dance forever in the salt tang currents" But yes. It's that good. Edit to add: this has insane longevity on me. I know some reviews say it is fleeting. But that just isn't the case with me. If you're intrigued definitely order a sample. But seriously. Buy it. This is my all time favorite perfume so I have a vested interest in it NOT being discontinued! Edit to add: this smells A LOT like Tom Ford Oud Mineral.

This is what "Every Storm a Serenade" by Imaginary Authors wishes it was. Imagine that, with every note sharpened, extended and livened. For me, this is strongly a coniferous marine scent: cypress is undeniably a crown jewel here, realistic and sharp, the best cypress I've smelled. The imagery the fragrance draws is clear: you, making your path through a softwood forest, with a sharp cliff opening before you, the ocean waves far below mercilessly crashing themselves on the rocks, throwing deliciously salty mist up in the air. The mix of notes is so well-balanced, the fragrance feels real and complete. Talking about longevity: it *does not* leave. You can spray in on in the morning, go about your business, sleep, wake up the next day and it will still be there. The smell is on a softer side for Pineward, but it still projects very reasonably.

smells like a cloudy, damp morning on the coast in the pacific northwest, then evolves into a bit of sun peaking through and glistening across all the salty dewdrops. i’m actually a big fan of this fragrance. it opens super masculine, mineral and oceanic, but the dry down softens to reveal more of the sweeter ambergris and sandalwood notes. i don’t know why the juniper in this is giving me an almost licorice note, which i'm not usually a fan of, but i like it in this. i love salt and other minerals in fragrances so the mineral notes in this are very fun! i can definitely see how the sea like scent can turn some off but a fun experiment for those who like more masculine scents.

i live at a beach on the east coast and this scent is pretty accurate when it comes to fresh, salty ocean. on my skin it starts off herbal, a bit of pine and salt, a hint of seaweed. fades into a powdery, green, salty ocean scent. smells like a desolate, early spring beach - still too cold for fair-weather beach goers but sunnier and warmer than winter, surfers dappled along the distant whitecaps, sea oats spread across the dunes. or like a norfolk pine left on the beach after christmas. soft but long-lasting and inoffensive.

this is one of my favorite scents ever. Reminds me distinctly of the whale watching tour off the coast of canada that I was proposed to on <3. Such a beautiful scent, reminiscent of moss cliff faces, salty, cold sea water, and a dried up oyster shell. Absolutely love love love the memories and vibes this scent evokes for me. One of my faves from Pineward.

An interesting, pleasant fragrance that somehow manages to be aquatic and dry at the same time. The juniper comes through quite a lot on me initially, but it’s underscored by the seaweed and sea water notes. After a couple hours, the aquatic notes come out, which I’m realizing I really enjoy. Reminds me of a more juniper-heavy Acadian.

Very atmospheric scent, like standing on a cliff facing the ocean when the storm is coming. The salty note is lacking for me in here, but I actually don't mind; the scent is amazing as is. Reminds me of Flotholt by Fishersund a bit, but Costal Veil is less northern. The seaweed is very realistic, too. Overall, I am a fan.

This scent grew on me a bit after I wasn’t initially impressed. Very refreshing and crisp. It is powerful too, if worn in an enclosed space everyone will be smelling this fragrance. Lasted over 24 hours on my skin. Not sure if I will buy it, but I will be finishing my sample.

faerie and i had high hopes for this one (faerie wants to smell like a mermaid) but unfortunately it smelled like a sharp tree, not a christmas tree, a spiky tree. didn’t get any seawater at all. we both ended up scrubbing it off. my mom liked it though. smelled good on her.

easily my favorite sample in the forest collection I imagine this as a foggy cold morning off the coast of Oregon where the forest meets the ocean(I'm from LA so that's what I picture) the aquatic notes paired with all the earthy elements is just perfection 8.9/10

• Great. • Pineward's signature pine with a more mainstream blue aquatic spin. Hard to go wrong with that. • Certainly not the most daring fragrance of the house, but possibly the safest introduction.

Smells like a trip to the Oregon Coast, period. Sometimes I layer it with J-Scent Paper Soap, an invigoratingly fresh combo.

Coastal Veil is a fragrance that aims to capture the image of an overcast shoreline, where a thin veil of mist and seawater hangs in the air and softens everything it touches, evoking a rugged coast with salt-stained rocks and seaweed debris underfoot, damp algae clinging to stone, and twisted coastal cypresses gripping rocky cliffs above. The atmosphere is cool, moody, and immersive, leaning more toward a wild, weathered coast rather than an idyllic beach. This fragrance is often compared to Every Storm a Serenade by Imaginary Authors, and sometimes even spoken of more favorably. That comparison alone means Coastal Veil has some massive shoes to fill. The bar is set high, so let’s see what it brings to the table. The opening delivers an immediate hit of salty seawater and seaweed, accented by cypress. On paper especially, the first moments are reminiscent of Oud Minérale, though Coastal Veil quickly sets itself apart with Pineward’s signature cypress and juniper. The opening feels raw and mineralic, like standing close to crashing surf. After about ten minutes, the juniper and cypress come forward slightly, adding a faint spiciness from juniper berries and water pepper. They remain subtle, while the seawater and seaweed continue to dominate and keep the focus firmly marine. Around the thirty-minute mark, the scent begins to shift. The initial seaweed-heavy opening softens, and a deeper earthiness emerges through moss and eucalyptus. The moss is the standout at this stage. It smells convincingly wet and green, overtaking the seaweed and making the fragrance noticeably less "ocean-y" than it was at the start. At roughly an hour in, Coastal Veil becomes especially interesting. The fragrance leans away from oceanic funk and toward a more rocky, mineral character. It remains aquatic, though no longer suggesting deep ocean water. Instead, it brings to mind an outdoor water ride, something like Splash Mountain or River Rapids, where freshwater is used to mimic white water rafting. There is an earthy mineral quality layered in, as if the water is circulating through stone or concrete, similar to the scent of gunite, which is a great smell (shoutout to contractors and pool builders). After about two hours, the fragrance continues in this direction. What remains is primarily seawater blended with mossy, vegetal earth, seaweed, slightly rocky and zinc-like mineral notes, and a light touch of cypress. If I am being completely honest, Coastal Veil reminds me more of Oud Minérale than it does Every Storm a Serenade. Where Every Storm a Serenade leans into eucalyptus, ozonic notes, calone, and a hint of vetiver, Coastal Veil feels more like a damp, rocky shoreline with wet cliffs, moss-covered stone, and coastal cypress. Coastal Veil was not what I expected, but it turned out to be a pleasant surprise and a welcome addition to this style of fragrance. I will also admit I have a soft spot here. If you combine eucalyptus with sea notes and ambergris, there is a very good chance I am going to enjoy it, and Coastal Veil certainly delivers on that front.

Unexpected and intriguing. This does a lot of different things in the first few minutes of wear—blue-green rounded aquatic, sharp medicinal eucalyptus, minerals and wet sand with a not unpleasant hint of decomposing wood. On me it settled into a mental image of a lonely old fisherman who lives in a hut on a rocky beach, salty faded aftershave and memories that aren't mine. And then it mysteriously vanished? Only to come back after a chilly evening walk through a very different kind of forest in some early spring snow. I worked up a sweat pulling my kid home quick in the wagon while wrestling with a dog who wanted to chase deer and began to notice a much tamer woody aquatic with just a hint of spicy saltiness to it. It's not something I could pull off as a daily driver—I'm born to freshwater lakes and Michigan forest, not a rocky sea coast, but on the right person this could be divine. It's still something I'd wear on a chilly gray day when the mood strikes me, though.

The seaweed and mushroom elevate this above bodywash and give it a another dimension. Earthiness isn't overpowering, but it's a "dark water" scent to me; the woods keep it fresh and balance all of the murky mushroom. Eucalyptus is there but not overpowering at all. The sandalwood and ambergris also give a soapy-clean aspect that is actually kind of nice when taken as a whole, and in the dry down this lasts quite a while. There's nothing offensive in this composition; to me it's an easy wear (for better, or worse, depending on your tastes) if not a little generic. Moderate projection/sillage. Better longevity than Acadian, but not as complex and interesting. Reminds me of Big Sur Eucalyptus by DS & Durga, and Every Storm a Serenade by Imaginary Authors.

I used to live on the beach in the Pacific North West. I moved away many years ago but miss it dearly, and have been looking for a scent to appease my nostalgia. When I read the notes of this I immediately ordered a sample. The opening is very herbal and aquatic. The most prominent note was eucalyptus, which had me a bit worried. Of all the smells that come to mind when I think of the coast, eucalyptus isn't one of them. However as it dries down the mushroom note emerged giving it a nice earthy quality. Once the mushroom fades and it settles into the skin, it becomes a fresh and woody scent that stays very close to the skin. Overall, this wasn't exactly what I was hoping for, but it is a beautiful and interesting scent nonetheless.

This one is a marine scent with some woodiness and some creaminess to it. It smells fresh, aquatic and just like the name, a coast. It smells like a shoreline, waves crashing, cool salty breezes, and a hint of sun kissed sweetness. The seaweed and sea water notes are strong in this but in a really atmospheric way, like you’re overlooking a beach coast on a high cliff, seaweed washed up below you. This feels like a salty beachy scent that isn’t too overwhelming. It has a soft smoothness to it with the sandalwood that really works. I think this would be really nice in the summertime.

The smell of walking on a foggy night and knowing the ocean is somewhere nearby; although you can’t make out the sea yet- one whiff, and you know it’s high tide without even having to glance towards the coast. The first spay is harsh and smells like aftershave- instantly drying down and becoming more sweet and natural. A more tasteful and classy aquatic. Pairs very well with Acadian and Akėdo!

This smells like a dark stormy coastline with crashing waves surrounded by big sharp rocks covered in mussels and seaweed and a vast coniferous forest. It also reminds me of the crumbly foam cube pit at the gymnastics gym my little sister and I used to play in as a kid. I just have to try not to think about that too hard and it’ll smell more like the first vibe!

I really love the way this scent smells out of the sample I got, but for some reason it does not smell very good on my skin. I'm unsure as to why exactly, but it started giving off a sour fishy smell about an hour into wearing. Maybe it just doesn't go with my skin chemistry? Such a shame because it smells amazing...

A nice clean pine smell on me with a hint of something cold and salty. I do like this scent, but it's to masculine for my liking to wear (would love to smell this on a guy).

Incredibly realistic seaweed note at the top that is both addictive and a little unpleasant. Bracing and pungent, like low tide in the winter.

literally just pine and eucalyptus on me, the eucalyptus gives it a nice cool minty-ness. there's also a little bit of sandalwood

I've had a hard time placing this one. It's strong seaweed and cypress combination makes this scent lean less unisex for me and more masculine. Definitely not something I would throw on for the office. That being said, it's refreshing. Sure, the initial spritz is off putting, but give it a minute and it will settle into this very honest depiction of the forested seaside. I'm back on the Oregon coastline, the evergreens at by back and before me is the vast grey/stormy sky and the sea. I was worried about the seaweed scent at first, now having worn it for a few days, it's not so much gross aquarium so much as costal. I will also note that as it mellows, more of those mid notes really begin to mesh well together. It doesn't last very long (3-4 hours mostly), but it's very noticeable. Unique, masc-leaning, summer scent that I would suggest getting the sample before blind buying (but that goes for all of Pineward scents).

Was hoping for something that would smell like the central coast of california where I grew up (cold ocean air, eucalyptus, sea water, sand). This smells nice, but kind of generic. Not photorealistic to any nature I've ever been in. It has a very woody scent with a mild undertone more akin to ocean-scented shampoo than an actual ocean. I was hoping for something more salty/earthy/sandy, but I don't smell the seaweed or mushroom notes in the slightest. It needs some of that oceanic fishiness to it. It feels quite warm to me. Might try layering this with something earthy.

I feel like any of the sea notes got drowned out a bit by the eucalyptus. The scent was pleasant, and I think overall they do mushroom fantastically, adding subtle complexity. Overall I think the sandalwood and eucalyptus washed out a lot of the other good things that this had going for it. Overall 4.5/10 Projection (scents are quiet on my skin) 4/10 Longevity 3.5 hours Worth a shot but more of a mood than a scent.

I really like the seawater note in this. Reminds me of hiking on a bluff overlooking the ocean on a foggy day. Longevity is not great, but it is an EDT so that's not super surprising. Will be getting a larger size! Edit: I got a 4ml and it's so much stronger and herbal than my sample! Kinda bummed about that. I liked the sheer foggy aspect. It smells like aftershave to me and my partner now.

Really tried this one but I struggle to smell it at all. Must be my skin or something because no matter how much it often I spray I just can’t seem to smell it. The small amount of time that I can smell it I enjoy it, it’s just not long enough to get a vibe.

when i first sprayed this i thought it was going to smell like epsom salt! it does not. it very quickly morphed into smelling like i was standing next to the sea lion tank at my local aquarium. this is wet carpet and sea water.

Smells just like the ocean shore, complete with rotting seaweed and lots of salt. Good if you want to smell like you just came back from the west coast, but I want to smell a bit more sensual than that.

I wouldnt say this reminds me of a coastal veil bc what i mostly get from this is a vegetal musk- it smells very very similar to frederic malle’s french lover to me with that realistic vegetal bitterness but just with an added light calone-y aquatic note that hovers over it. Its devoid of the usual forest- like character thats present in many other pineward scents. And i like it, i dont love it- i like things that are very naturalistic but im just not usually that smitten with vegetal accords in general unless they are complemented by something else or used to complement something else- here its pretty central, and i dont think the aquatic element clashes but i dont think it exalts either. The dry down on clothes does remind me of oud minerale quite a bit as someone below me said, when the vegetal element dissipates more and the aquatic element takes more of a center stage- however i also see a lot of people getting forest and pine- like accords from this and i feel like thats just from name association or something, because realistically as i said this a a very atypically non-foresty pineward scent. its fairly well done it just doesnt arise any strong reaction out of me. Every pineward ive tried with an aquatic element i also feel like isnt done badly- yet its also not a knock out of the park for me. If youre a vegetal lover id recommend trying this out, otherwise i appreciate it but its still a pass for me

Ahh yes, ok I now understand what they mean when they say this is mens cologne type of aquatic where it's fresh like aquatic themed mens perfume over photorealistic dank ocean with it's varying facets. To be honest this is very polite and it isn't *exactly* masculine cologne smelling, it just literally smells like the cleanest ocean air. Like fresh salty ocean air and it does have a touch of brine and seaweed accord more brine then seaweed actually) like a super clean gentile fish market by the beach where ocean air is passing through. I know this sounds like a conundrum but when I say I was expecting/hoping for dank, I was thinking in terms of Zoologist Olm and Solstice Scent Sea Of Gray/Gulf Breeze. This is not that but it also isn't full on Megamare either though, it is kind of in between? If the first two are too gross/realistic/dank for you and megamare was the headache inducing sickening chemical bomb then this is in between, though oddly it does pull facets from both. It does have the brine/seaweed from Olm/SS (more brine in this) and it does also have that chemical ozone thing in megamare and both facets pop their heads more at varying stages of wear. I like the Olm/SS variant and not the Megamare thing and I own Olm/SS which are miles better so this is a definite pass now. One less thing on my wishlist now thank god 🤣

I picture a foggy afternoon of rock hounding at the tide pools on an Oregon beach. Damp, pungent seaweed strewn on the sand mounds and driftwood, wet stone, cold bubbling brine and soggy earth. Photorealistic bay scene in the Pacific Northwest. A little too realistic for me, it's a bit funky. I can appreciate the realism, however. It does remind me of the many coastal hikes in the area. l love the purity of Pineward creations, Nick is a true artist painting nature landscapes with scent.

Quite repulsive marine note. If you like the seaweed algae, salty air smells, this perfumer does an amazing job of portraying that artistry. If you are sensitive to fishy, marine smells like I am, run the other way. I received this in a sample set and already knew it would not be a favorite which is fine. Another review mentioned TF oud minerals and I definitely get that as well so could be a cheaper alternative if you enjoy that one.

Don't blind buy. My sample disappointed me so much. It opened promisingly, I could smell the seaweed. Then an industrial odor, like a warehouse full of tires or discounted-discounted clothing. Then a birdbath smell. And my grandmother's basement. (She wore Shalimar.) The dry down brings back the seaweed. I liked the seaweed.

Top 5 in my favorite fragrances of all time. So refreshing and beautiful. Imagine standing near the beach, sea water all in your hair, it’s night time and you are standing on a rock smelling the sea breeze. It’s an olfactive masterpiece. Nothing i’ve ever smelled smells this realistic.

Darnit! Even Pineward are using that spiky wood note I dislike so much! I do get the salty water and hint of seaweed that I wanted here, but the note of screaming sharp rubbing alcohol eclipses it and burns my nose. Sad!

i just tried tom ford oud minerale for the first time and it immediately reminded me of this one. they both have a similar seaweed ambergris vibe.

The scent was pleasant, but after 5 Minute there is no scent any more on skin or on cloth. disappointing Longevity 5 minute
