Coffee Tabac

Sampling Pineward Perfumes Coffee Tabac, one of the house’s most recent releases, and it delivers on its name and then some. Aptly named with lead notes of coffee and tobacco, further colored by cocoa, woods, and resins, it’s a great option for cooler weather. It’s dark and powerful, and a bit reminiscent of a combination of Slumberhouse Ore and Jeke, black cocoa pepper meeting boozy tobacco in a very dark setting. Its performance is very, very strong—stronger than most of the other dark concoctions of the house, even, I think. I feel it reaches a good balance, too, among sweet, spicy, woody, and resinous aspects, very complex but not too labyrinthine to enjoy. It’s unsurprisingly mostly sold out, currently, as word must have gotten out before I took the opportunity to test out my sample, but its pricing is in line with most of the line’s extrait concentration perfumes, at $205/135/80 for 57/37/17ml, quite reasonable in my opinion. As with many of the house’s releases, especially their darker, more cold-weather-leaning options, I’m very impressed by Coffee Tabac and it would be one of the first bottles that I’d buy from the house. 8 out of 10

My 4th from Pineward. I am really shocked by the low rating for this. I am the 8th to leave a review from nearly 50 voters. Crazy. This is just as its billed. Lightly sweetened coffee with tobacco. Leafy tobacco. Well blended. Perfect for the fall setting. My only complaint is that it isn't as loud as Treacle or Funerie. Better scent profile, but much more subdued. Still get a tad over 7 hours out of it on 3 sprays. But not a real heavy projector. That isn't a bad thing. But for me, I just want it to scream a little more. Certainly dark. I only tried on skin and you can see the color difference. I would assume, as mentioned below, that this isn't suited for light clothing. Pineward has many rich and dark scents that probably could leave a stain. Beautiful scent from start to finish. I picked up a 4ml bottle and may need to grab a larger size.

Intense, rich, cozy, and wonderful. As with so many Pineward fragrances, this does what it says on the tin: lots of dark coffee and tobacco notes (much more sweet cigar than ashy cigarette, thankfully), over a background spiciness that adds warmth and complexity without shouting about individual notes. A similar vibe to Maison Margiela's Jazz Club, but with more coffee and less overtly sweet/vanilla-toned rum--though Coffee Tabac does have a hint of that rum sweetness. Beautifully balanced and wearable, in my experience, especially on a cool, rainy day.

Such a lovely spicy, sweet, slightly smokey scent that also has a hint of coffee. BIG WARNING THIS WILL STAIN CLOTHES!!! Luckily I sprayed it on my skin and it left a brown spot that I had to dab off so be careful.

Really good scent. I love the initial rustic smell, and the charred coffee that comes with. I did about 2 sprits, and it didn't last that long, and was awfully weak on my skin. Great smell nonetheless <3

So far my experience with Pineward fragrances has been a roller-coaster. Acadia smells like a straight up urinal cake. Murkwood and Eldritch smell like A1 sauce. I'm hoping for a win and luckily, Coffee Tabac is a win in my opinion. To start off, this scent in my opinion is not blind buy safe nor is any Pineward scent, nor is this mass appealing. It smells like the inside of an antique trunk thats sitting next to a coffee maker. Its musty, stale, very very slightly sweet and altogether just.... odd, nostalgic and good. After around 3 hours the musty stale coffee backs off and some spices come in and turns this a little sweeter than the opening was. It's quite nice. Also note this stuff last forever, not crazy projection but the longevity is crazy. I can still see the oil stain on my hand hours after spraying. It also takes a bit to evolve on skin, but it gets there after a while. Im not sure I'd buy a full bottle of this yet, but its a very comforting scent to me, I'd give it a 7.5/10.

amazing amazing sweet, heavy, dark and full bodied perfume. opens with a blast of rich spicy patchouli and sweetens into coffee and tobacco. smells good all day even when it softens into a skin scent. not quite gourmand. warm and cozy, good for wearing with a warm sweater in winter or while sitting in front of a fire. wish it projected a bit more and lasted longer but overall love this scent a lot

Smells like my great grandpa's office. Stuffy & stale in a really nice way. Straight up coffee-bean rather than brewed coffee. The tobacco note is almost identical to an unlit American Spirit black. I like layering it with a spray of Raghba to sweeten it up.

A warm, deep fragrance where sweet coffee takes centre stage with the smokiness/earthiness of woods and tobacco keep it from being too sharp. The spices hang out on top to add some sharpness without being grating.

Please note that I typically LOVE Pineward scents. Picture a filthy work pickup truck littered with trash and stinking of stale Marlboro Reds. There is a paper cup of the most vile, bottom-shelf coffee in mainland America sitting in the back. Not 7-11 coffee, the actual bad stuff. This coffee has sat in the open sun in the rear cupholder of this truck to the extent that it has now condensed into a mildly thick, dark puddle. Next, picture the owner of this pickup truck, equal in dereliction to his vehicle, spitting his cheap dip juices into the cup. Now add some stevia and take a swig. That’s what coffee tabac is like.

This is a photorealistic coffee tabac. Imagine smelling a cup of cold coffee that was left on a café table, and someone has been using it as a makeshift ashtray. Cigarette ashes and buds are floating on the surface, somewhat soaked. That’s what it smells like to me. It’s a very specific smell, not your run-of-the-mill honey tobacco vanille.

Much like Mint Cocoa, Coffee Tabac opens with a blast of cold, camphorous patchouli and waxy-Hershey-kiss-like chocolate. All of the warmth from the spices and resins are just perceptible underneath the oppressive cloud of patchouli. Maybe you're into that! I unfortunately am not.

Revisiting this sample and glad i did. I got it in a dab bottle and not a sprayer which might be worth noting- but this reminds me a lot of another pineward scent- i think ponderosa- which i kind of liked but felt really compositionally imbalanced to me, the sweetness wasn't right and the main body of the fragrance felt overly dry and these two elements really clashed badly to me- this has much different notes but actually feels like it took all those elements and keeps the main accord but balances everything out here. There is a dry element at the base to my nose- it almost smells like dry bark or a certain type of petrichor smell, and the slight accent of tobacco actually accompanies that perfectly. I feel a light sweetness from a realistic clove and ground cinnamon note. Im not getting slapped in the face with an obvious coffee accord which some may be disappointed by but i am happy with. At first it really smelled very distinct and deep and dark and then when it settles thats still there a bit but it smells so much more warm and spicy and comfortingly homely. This has such a beautiful “home filled with the scent of baking spices and stale tobacco in autumn” vibe to it that im really fond of- it doesn't feel like an overly palatable perfumey “angels share” or “tobacco vanille” type of affair, it has a little more grit and nuance to it, it smells realistic but still slightly elevated and sweet (my dab bottle/lack of sprayer may affect those conclusions about it not coming across as “perfumey”)- but is still very likable. This may be one of the best “holiday spices” type of scent ive ever come across, i will have to revisit it again with a full wear to really settle on how i feel about it but i am impressed overall On skin also is one of the few pinewards that really meshes well with my chemistry- just morphs into something perfectly warm and vanillic with a slight hint of spice- actually really resembles the profile of tobacco vanille when its on skin for me, just with the tobacco having a more stale effect then it does there and the presence of a light patchouli note as well

I will start by saying this is not blind buy safe. Contrary to popular opinion I believe there’s a good selection of Pineward fragrances that can be mass appealing and certainly safe to buy blind but this isn’t despite the inviting and cosy energy it gives. To my nose the tobacco is what I smell straight away and what remains on the top for the duration of this fragrances lifespan on your skin. The coffee and spices are certainly present too and they almost smell chocolatey to me. I personally enjoy this fragrance and how bold it is, I can still smell it in my room a full 24 hours after the first couple of spritz’s. However I can see how it could be too much for a lot of people, and I would be lying if I said there was no argument behind it being a “trashy” scent to wear given its obvious tobacco notes. Also another note is its extremely dark colour. It will absolutely stain clothes and skin a green colour. I tested the difference between letting it sit on your skin and dabbing it off and dabbing it off works effectively and doesn’t hamper its smell

You know im excited about this line! Can't wait to test! Update: If you tried Treacle before, this coffee tabac offering will focus more on the tobacco without all the spices you get from treacle. Treacle was a heavy hitter fragrance too but this one will be for the ones who just want tobacco. As for the coffee note, I don't really pick up on the coffee. Perhaps you are able to pick up on it up more accurately than I but what I get is what you'll never be short changed on, the burley tobacco!

Good news and bad news: this is almost an exact copy of Slumberhouse Jeke (the old version). Just not as sweet, which is a plus. Initially there is a strong blast of bitter coffee, but after it disappears, the perfumes are very similar. The good news is that this is easier to find and cheaper, the bad news is that this is not the most original perfume.
