Snoqualmie

A bitterly cold, clear night in an unfamiliar forest. Finding a clearing, you're surprised to see a creek that hasn't quite iced over and as your knees press into the brittle frost to fill your canteen, you uneasily begin to wonder how deep it actually goes. I was surprised to find myself coming back to this again and again, because at first sniff it was unlike anything I've ever gravitated toward. So clean and bracing that it's almost aquatic, but in a way that would stop your heart from the cold if you took a dip. The aromatic greenery has such an intense edge to it that it's almost juicy, but not sweet in the slightest. Like using your front teeth to start peeling a grapefruit and the almost tongue-numbing sensation of the bitter oil spreading through your mouth as you're anticipating the first bite. It's dark but so incredibly fresh that it's not the night itself but the sharp clarity of a winter moon. I didn't expect to fall in love with it, but it has the same compelling quality as strong pine and citrus cannabis sativa buds without giving cannabis itself. The only sample I've actually used more of from this order is Subalpine (received as a promo), which feels to me like the same forest clearing but warming with the waking dawn instead. It's high on my list to repurchase.

Smelling the opening of this on paper today was quite an olfactory experience. It was incredibly intense and realistic, like a damp, moldy, earthy, woody pine forest. After checking the name a couple of times, I realized it was named after the waterfall near Seattle that I visited several years ago, and it fits the name very well. I’ve only smelled the opening on paper, but based on that, it doesn’t feel wearable to me at all. Which is ok, because this is definitely an art piece. I wouldn’t buy it, but if I did, it would just be to smell it from time to time and share the experience with friends and family. It was definitely eye opening.

A lovely new addition to Pinewards long slew of coniferous fragrances, that feels more refreshing than its previous releases. This is a Douglas fir tree no doubt, but there’s a balsamic, powdery, resinous sweetness dusted over that offers a different take than its usual DNA. I find this to have a fresh muskiness to it too, that feels like you’re smelling these trees in the early hours of the morning. It’s light, airy, fresh, but warmly sweet too. I feel like it’s distinctly Pineward’s typical forest esque scent but the freshly musky touch and light sweetness makes it feel new. An all around lovely scent

"A previously offered and long discontinued perfume inspired by Twin Peaks: The Return". It could mean a blind-buy simply due to its association with one of my favorite series. It's worth mentioning that there's no note suggesting the presence of the Black Lodge in that forest. The scent is extremely airy and naturalistic. Compared to previous releases, this perfume seems to focus (finally!) more on the tree's canopy rather than its trunk.The only downside is its longevity. PS my fave enchanted forest frag is still Falling Stars on Winter Solstice by Alkemia Perfumes

super fresh and chilly, i really do like this one, to me it smells like a frozen waterfall by the coast of Oregon on a chilly morning 8.4/10

This is such a beautiful tree scent. If you long to smell like the air in a Pacific Northwest forest, definitely give this a try.

My third Pineward. The resin is sandarac, which comes from a Moroccan tree used to produce varnish and incense. That varnish (not turpentine) note is central to this fragrance. To me, this smells more like a woodworker's shop in a forest than an actual forest. This also has a peppermint/camphor accord that is inexplicably not mentioned in the note description. That is what gives the snow/ice feel of this. Some fragrances are worn for others. Some because they make us feel good. Others, like this one, paint a picture that you appreciate as if in a gallery. You appreciate the care, ingenuity and expertise that the perfumer put into it, but it isn't necessarily something that you would want to smell like on a daily basis. That is probably why Pineward sells their fragrances in such a large variety of smaller sizes. The differences between Pineward fragrances are often quite small, sometimes based solely on the different types of pine needles or saps, and that is analytically fascinating, somewhat akin to tasting for differences between different vintages of the same cabernet. But if I'm being completely honest, the similar dna with subtle differences between the different Pinewards makes me a bit impatient a good while before the fragrance fades. As the fragrance dries down, there is a significant difference between the sillage and NDS (nose down shirt). In the air, you get more of the needles of the tree, along with that mintiness which cools the skin, and bits of varnish. NDS is varnish forward, then the fir wood itself, then the minty accord. This would work well outdoors except that it's high fragrance/low alcohol content limits it projection. It could work for an art gallery exhibition, a jazz show at an underground club, maybe apres ski. Even though I like the varnish note, it may not please those around you, sort of like the polarizing gasoline note in vintage Farenheit.

I've sampled so many wintery, earthy green scents but I haven't had my head turned from andrea maack's Coven in a long time..... Very different, as if this is the same cold forest during the day, near a waterfall, while Coven is what comes at night. This is a renamed perfume inspired by Twin Peaks. There's a powderiness that's holding me back from buying it, it's quite violety and innocently sweet at points. But then Douglas firs and resins can be soft and even slightly bubblegummy in the right weather... Not to give a "better as a candle" comment, I'm just not sure where I would wear this. Even though I want to. This is soily, cold, and deep green, and reminds me v much of Dunkeld in Perthshire. The colour is incredible and I see this working in most seasons.

Don't let the haters fool you on this one. While it is very photorealistic fir tree. It's not quite as linear as people are making it out to be. There's an ozonic cold air quality to this fragrance. Like a foggy morning after a damp night in November. It dries down to a heady balsamic fur. Not like a Christmas candle though. Like you rubbed the tree resin into your skin. Not a challenging fragrance by any stretch of the imagination. Very good for layering if you want to add a fir tree note to any fragrance. And the juice is very light. This one won't stain clothes like some pinewards do.

Christmas tree dripping with sweet, warm sap in the bright sun. This is realllyy really good. Kinda reminds me of what summer camp in the forest would smell like. Opposite but very similar to Murkwood (my favorite), Murkwood is deep, smokey, almost cold and slightly masculine leaning fir tree forest. This is just a singular tree, bright and sweet.

This to me is a perfectly photorealistic Christmas tree scent. Smells exactly like going out with my family in late November to pick out our tree every year. I’d pick up a few fallen needles here and there and snap them in half- just to sniff while we shopped. Evokes feelings of Christmas cheer and the holidays in the most stunning way.

I really enjoyed this! Slightly sweet and pretty resinous. It's sharp and balsamic up front with something darker in the background. IMO this is similar to Quartana Forest of the Golden Dream, though less complex and without the sparkly/magical vibe.

like pure essential oils, nice and sharp/spicy pine smell, one of the better ones (pinewards) thus far, also lighter and fades quicker than the others

Pretty good pineward. Starts off woody but as it dries it starts smelling more damp and watery. Wood quality sticks around though.

Perfectly encapsulates a dense forest of different kinds of conifers with a thick carpet of tree needles on the forest floor.

this smells like any number of old vintage thrift stores in new england, dry and dusty and woody, pine but not too festive.

as someone that grew up in washington and frequented snoqualmie, this doesnt hit the spot for me. something in this is off. it is maybe close.. but all of pinewards perfumes have this similar dna and that dna just doesnt fit for a true pnw forest. yes it has this freshness which is indeed accurate, i could smell the waterfall, but the ... resinous part doesnt make sense to me. i dont think you smell tree sap in the air, maybe up close to a tree, but i wanted the air smell. just fir needle smell and dampness and crispness.

Crazy balsamic opening and drydown of a whole fir and pepper jungle. Dirty, woody, spicy-green and dense. It's such an atmospheric fragrance but it's too vegetable like for my taste and wearing. So unique and cool. It has a considerably good level of sillage and longitivity. Edit: there is a second bottle within the brand and it's named "brokilan" that has a fresh, less peppery, bitter and balsamic take on this, it's much more wearable.

Linear, photorealistic fir. Certainly very well made, doesn’t smell like chemicals at all. There’s just not very much going on here. It’s nice on some occasions. I just can’t imagine anyone ever wanting a full bottle of this.

At first I was delighted - at opening it is fresh, verdant, cold mountain air... it transported me to hiking in Washington state... then unfortunately my hike passed a bobcat marking its territory. A peculiar stale ammonia note entered and now I can't ignore it. The dry down kept its original cooling sensation (lovely) but only slightly lessened the cat pee (not so lovely.) Like most Pineward, strong sillage.

There's a lot of lore to unpack with Snoqualmie. I love that. Snoqualmie is a beautiful town and waterfall in Washington state. This is the dramatic waterfall seen beside the Great Northern Hotel (Salish Hotel & Spa) in the television show, Twin Peaks. The name means 'moon' in Lushootseed, a Salish Indian language historically spoken in the Puget Sound region. Snoqualmie, the fragrance, is the same or similar to a discontinued scent by House of Matriarch called Future's Past, which was also thematically connected to Twin Peaks. Like many Pineward scents, Snoqualmie is naturally green due to chlorophyll in the coniferous essential oils and resins used. Purportedly, 99% natural, it contains oils from Douglas-Fir (Pseudotsuga menziesi), Balsam Fir (abies balsamea), Red Cedar (Juniperus virginiana), Western ? Larch (Larix ? occidentalis), Tamarack (Larix laricina), and Sandarac Resin (Tetraclinis articulata). Interestingly, all species used are native to North America, except sandarac which comes from North Africa. The actual fragrance of Snoqualmie is sharply resinous and of fairly high-pitch, but there is also a fruity sweetness to its scent profile which is evocative of green mangoes. There is als a soothingly subtle hint of smoke in the deeper drydown, just a touch. The scent happily reminds me of hiking in wet coniferous woods, and perhaps becoming stained with fresh pitch along the way. As such it is also most evocative of lumberjacking, especially in the Pacific Northwest. Like many Pineward creations, this is quite different from most mainstream woody fragrances. Even the conifer essential oils used here are much less commonly encountered in fine perfumery, compared to such Mediterranean species as True Cedar (Cedrus spp.) and Cypress (Cupressus sempervirens). Wearing this scent socially would be a literally remarkable experience, as others would likely remark on the scent. I would imagine most of the remarks would be intrigued or complimentary in nature.

I sprayed this on paper first. Always the play for me. I was not at all interested, but then I decided to finally get my set used up and stop being so scared to wear them. I sprayed it on my wrist and I was kind of surprised in a confused way. It took me back to my childhood when I would wonder why we never bought live trees whenever we'd pass them in the store for Christmas. I would constantly pick at them and this just reminds me of seeing the water at the bottom of the tree

The wood is saturated in rainfall and the soil is rich. Resins are smooth and earthy. There is an aquatic element amongst the fresh greenery that reminds me of the river or waterfall mist collecting in dew drops on tree moss. The Reminds me of forest elements from Olympic Orchids - Olympic Rainforest and some elements of the aquatics in Kingston Ferry... but far more wearable. Overall this is a beautiful scent that gorgeously represents what it set out to paint a picture of.

Has that same larchy vibe that Brokilan has, but it’s less sweet and citric and instead a bit muskier. I feel like the muskier aspect kinda ties in the fact the real place of Snoqualmie has a waterfall. It’s like fresh wet air without smelling damp, aquatic or marine. It feels like it would suit those that wanted Brokilan without the sharp citric edge.

Amazing green scent. I love ozonic airy scents and this perfectly mixes that with the green moss in this fragrance. Probably the most wearable pineward and the one I had to get a full bottle of. Great airy green mossy scent.

The first 2 seconds is ketchupy to me lol, but then it’s a very fresh green fir and cedar leaf mashup. Smell like a living breathing Christmas tree! I like it.

I don't think it smells like this, but it reminded me of going into the woods in Indonesia
