Velours Rouge

happy valentine's day! this scent isn't totally for me, but i can truly appreciate the level of craft and nuance in this fragrance. an almost shampoo-y gourmand, the cocoa and coffee come off heavy upon first spray, but the dry down really brings out the velvety musks in this. ends up giving a sweet, amber feel on me. luxe! will be trying more from this house

This scent immediately evokes the various tastes, feels, and romance of Valentine's Day for me. Soft, velveteen sheets with iris and lush red rose petals scattered atop them that you’re hesitant to disturb. Rich chocolate truffles that you feed your lover, then wash down with a sip of the boozy libation you’ve been poured. The velvet accord and musk work together so beautifully to create the feeling of this romance being sealed to your skin like a hug from someone you never want to let go. Someone who’s skin you almost wish you could crawl inside because that’s just how close you want to be to them. Chocolate covered iris and rose petals with a hint of booze and soft musk in the background is the best way I can sum this fragrance up, minus the fanfare lol. This is unmistakably gourmand, but the rose and iris specifically keep it from being explicitly so. I’m a sucker for gourmand florals, and I think anyone else with a similar proclivity might very well enjoy this scent as well. I get about 6-7 hours from this one and I really enjoy every phase of it. The gourmand elements kind of dominate the opening to my nose. But as the scent evolves from the mid to the dry down, those elements come into perfect balance with the velvet, musk and florals.
