Pino Silvestre Original

Epic Journey Into the Bottled Yonder, 033 ------------------------------------------------------- Purchased May-July 2017 Super conifer pine. Victor Silvestre, Visconti di Modrone Acqua di Selva, and then this by Pino Silvestre were the first ever clean scents. They were wide open air pine firs and possibly the lowest priced aromatic fougeres. They were the first sports, post-shower and post-workout/pre-exercise frags. They weren't necessarily used for exactly those physical activities, but I'm sure they were although the adult population didn't do PE to the point of breaking a sweat and needing some cover up was required. These would've been the tickets to take care of that inevitable problem. People after that period began exercising more and more and soon proper green, fresh scents were invented. These 3 scents were pine needles and some citrus. That's it. If you wanted to take a walk in the forest then just spray these and stay in, since you obviously wouldn't have lived next to a forest. Acqua di Selva has the most citrus in it, to the point where it always reminds me of a freshly opened Sprite or 7up. Agua Brava is a bit like Acqua di Selva but heavier on the wood, while Pino Silvestre was always loudest on the pine fougere, really an extreme amount of wooded fir and needles. I don't have Victor Silvestre, so I'd imagine it's a cross between Acqua di Selva and Pino as they all pre-dated Agua Brava. What a time to have been around for the re-invention of fragrances. Batch: 04360D6 from January 2016.

This is a traditional cologne from Italy. Like most traditional herbal Italian colognes I've tried, I get a strong smell of Italian herbs, especially thyme. The overall makeup of the herbs together however makes sort of a pine-like scent, even though there isn't actually any pine note in this cologne. However the dominant note in this is thyme, and there are no pine notes like in Ralph Lauren Polo or Antonio Puig's Quorum in this. There is no sweetness, and it has an overall dry feel. It reminds me more of herbs I would put on a pizza than an actual forest due to the thyme note (but that's not a bad thing, as it smells pretty good). It's very green and extremely herbal. Sillage is moderate while longevity is pretty good. The bottle - shaped like a pinecone - is one of the most interesting ones I've ever seen in a cologne. Overall, it's an interesting Italian herbal fragrance with 0 sweetness and a cool bottle, and not bad for $10. This is definitely not a safe blind buy however, as it is very different from the regular Western perfume due to its spicy herbal nature. But for me, it's one of the greatest mens' colognes ever made due to its Italian cologne style and good projection, with that green scent. It's like Acqua di Gio Essenza but more herbal and with pine instead of aquatic notes. 5/5

I did not like the newest formulation of this at first (I am referring to the version with the geometric/block graphic on the bottle and box), as I had grown used to the laundry fresh blast of the "Pine Gems Essence" version. Upon first wear I was missing the crisp lemon, instead smelling what I perceived to be a more "musty" and deep green rendition of basil and thyme. After letting the fragrance sit for a couple of months, the mustiness has completely disappeared and now the citrus top notes are even better than those from the Pine Gems Essence bottle. It is a sweet, almost candied citrus made fresh and clean with mint, basil, pine and thyme. All of the notes are of botanical/top shelf essential oil quality, I can't smell anything harsh or synthetic. There is still a definite pencil shavings smell in the heart due to cedar, and it closes out in a mossy/ambery fashion which ironically smells very close to a reed diffuser I've smelled called Amber & Moss by PF Candle Co. This is a masterpiece, and it's obvious why it's been on the market for close to 70 years now.

Couldn't get to sleep last night. Nothing worked...soothing music...my weighted blanket...my magnesium oil spray...my Himalayan Salt Lamp...Melatonin...nothing! As I stumbled into the master bathroom I spied that vibrant green pine cone shaped bottle on the tray with all the rest of my hubby's fragrances. I buy them for him, but he only wears them on special occasions. I know he hasnt worn his Pino yet. I took off my nightie and sprayed myself down. Crawling back into bed, I felt better. Cozy. Like in a log cabin out in the woods, although we live in a very rural area of the Desert where the only pleasant aroma might be after a rain and the scent is soggy sagebrush. I fell asleep quite quickly and stayed asleep till morning. Highly unusual. I quickly snuck that green pine cone bottle into my perfume vault. He'll never know its missing ;). He'll just wonder why our bedroom smells of Christmas. Sssssshhhh!

I've been familiar with this one for years, my dad never owned it or anything (at least I don't think he did?) but I distinctly remember sampling it on a market stall when I was about 12 and not really liking it. Well I think my tastes have changed because I don't think Pino has a great deal. To say it smells of pine doesn't really do it justice as a composition. It has that fresh juniper and pine in the opening which also has green notes of basil and mint. The main thing I get though is a tough, spiced, anise note which has to be coming from carnation. The drydown is a pine/cedar/mossy affair. I like Pino Silvestre a lot because it is unashamedly a gents fragrance and it's quite sour...maybe that's not the right word? It's pleasant ...but just a bit 'off' You can't argue it's poor on any front... price, performance, or development of notes. I have a bottle now and I'm more than happy to wear it.

My first and most successful blind buy! I find it completely delightful. The opening is a crisp blast of basil and lavender, sharpened by citrus elements and pine; such strong, sappy pine. It's strong enough to drive my wife away, but I love it. I feel like I'm in an alpine cloud, trudging uphill in a redwood forest. Then a while later it dries down and she approaches again when the softer, muskier elements come out. You get the sweet, spicy musk and cedar that makes you feel like a kid rifling through dad's bathroom cabinet to splash on some Brut. I've been obsessed with pine scents for a long time, and while I'm not sure this is 'the one', I can't overstate how happy it makes me. Must have something to do with that twee, pine cone shaped bottle, I find literal interpretations like these very charming. You can imagine the chokehold old Avon bottles have on me.

I have to admit I was quite sad to read so many negative reviews about this perfume. It is one of my absolute favorite scents in the world. It brings back so many happy childhood memories of my dad and uncle. It's just so wonderful and fresh and masculine. I haven't seen it anywhere for years and then suddenly it pops up at the local cosmetics shop around Christmas and I was absolutely delighted to see it again. Yes, it might have a connection to some cleaning products, but, as far as I can remember, this perfume is way older than any of them. In fact, I was even happy to find those products because they reminded me of Pino Silvestre. :) Maybe I'm somewhat biased, being a Mediterranean woman who grew up on an island surrounded by pine trees, but I guess perfumes are all about subjective experience anyway.

Real manly man scent. You wear this when you shave you beard, and you go over to your GF to get laid. Fresh, woodsy, pine that opens your sinuses when you smell it. - Meaning it may come off to someone a bit hard but its the PINE. bla bla bla you will hear girls telling it sucks they hate it. But if you are Confident, you can pull this one out easily. And they will tell you later that you smelled nice. To bad they reformulated, the ones from 2000s were much stronger, much more pine. Still its worth the money. Do not wear this fragrance it you are a BOY TOY This fragrance wear manly man, guys that know what they want. No bi-sex guys. You aint anyones b*itch. When you start wearing this your chest hair will start to grow. You can wear this one whenever you want. I love it!

I can’t speak of what this was like 50 years ago but my bottle is new from Fragrancenet and it smells outstanding. It smells fresh, clean, bright and up lifting. There isn’t any of the notes you’d expect of an old men’s fragrance. Nothing that people would find offensive or overbearing. It’s a light airy effervescent scent with lots of pine, juniper and citruses. As is today, this formulation might not please the old head nostalgia junkies but it if a very natural smelling timeless scent that will please anyone. Performance is average. Best for daytime and from spring to fall.

This bottle deserves my least technical and most sentimental review. This is pure childhood memories, of sneaking into the bathroom cabinet to smell my dad's fragrance, that very same one I could smell as a child on his sweater with every hug. Not so long ago, I realized he had this half bottle within his storage, "yeah I don't use it much anymore, you can have it if you want". My eyes shined. I traded giving him a half bottle of Bvlgari wood essence, he loved it, but I loved this piece of personal history even more.

I can be a fragrance snob who prefers niche perfumery but no kidding this is a wonderful scent. I wouldn't dream of giving it to anyone because of the tacky and extremely dated packaging, but really, it's great. Compares very well with much more expensive aftershaves. This one is very "foresty -fresh" cedar pine and moss. Very underrated , boys- if you haven't had a sniff don't be put off by the dated name and branding, this may well become your " signature". you could do much worse than this. Big evocative "like"

Crisp mountain air, Mediterranean herbs, and chopped up pine wood is the name of the game here. It's a fragrance of total sobriety, with tranquil lavender bouncing off of the energizing pine notes bringing a feeling of peace. If you're a fan of the great outdoors, smelling this will instantly bring a smile to your face. Sometimes less is more and Pino Silvestre doesn't need a complicated review to sing it's praises.The unbelievable, mostly unadorned scent of fresh wood speaks for itself. Recommended!

U can take the cap off completely and left with "bit better" sprayer, like it was before with wood cap...a classic...new formulation is like eau de cologne (my grandfathers signature scent ,my fathers after shave cologne, im 43 and still love it...) I need this in EDP version ! add on top bit cardamom and mint ,amp up pine,on dry down more wood- rose, sandal amp up oakmoss with bit of tolu balm & benzoin pls...and u have a happy customer :) As its origin comes from 1955 ...from me gets 9 ot of 10!

This scent is a happy memory of my childhood. My dad used to wear it often back in the early to late '90s, and so when I think of blissful moments as a kid this fragrance is a part of that world. Pino Silvestre is a wonderful, clean and fresh pine fragrance that I now miss dearly. It opens bright like a snowy, winter morning in a pine forest and dries down to a gentle, warmer tone with bergamot and citrus notes next to the leading of pine. It has a strong sillage and lasts beautifully long.

I gave my virginity to a man who wore this fragrance. Every time I've caught the scent of it on a man over the many years since, I have found it arousing. So I bought it and wear it and turn myself on. Pino FTW! Edit: The longevity and sillage aren't the greatest, but I just love the scent, so I won't be without it. I'm also experimenting with layering this with other fragrances to make it a little more feminine on myself.

Pino Original is magic. It managed to survive all these changing decades, still being made in Venice. Flawless & natural with a great touch of spicy pine freshness and by no means any sort of old man style. Very calming, energizing and optimistic. The performance is stunning also. Perfect sillage and projection, not pushy yet steady with a great deal of longevity (throughout the day!!). Gotta love this beauty!

Out of fashion, definitely out of fashion. So it starts off well. Masculine, very masculine. Another point in its favor. It speaks of the past: excellent — without roots, where can you go? Autumn is cold and winter is approaching... I can already smell the Christmas tree (a real one). It reminds me of my grandfather. Beautiful. I'm in smartworking, low light, cold outside: perfect.

A masterpiece. Spray this on your sweater and it will last for weeks ! Very natural smelling fragrance. It always gets compliments. Perfect for cold winters. Heartlifting. My comfort fragrance. Warm and cosy, like being under a mediterranean pine tree on a summer evening. Everyone should have this in their collection. Unbelievably low price !!!

After doing my research I chose this purchase. I absolutely love the smell. I hate it's longevity,,, it's gone in an hour. At least it's cheap enough that I can continue buying it,, and I will. I think it'll be perfect in spring and summer, for quick trips out. Refreshing!

I always like Pino Silvestre Original. Reminds me the summers of my childhood, in a small house in the heart of the Mediterranean. There was a pine tree forest up the hills and during the hot hours of the day the air smelled pine and herbs. It was nice!

A lovely fresh pine and herb fragrance with some citrus. Great for Summer or after a shower. The dry down is the best bit when more Basil and herbs come through - it's quite unique and really lovely. One of the nicest cheapies out there.

I've never been to Italy, but to me Pino Silvestre smells like pictures I see of the Italian countryside. It's a wonderful fragrance.

Great fragrance but every spray I've owned (many) always leaks. The newer frags. without the integrated button work much better.

Masterpiece of royal pine trees 🌲 smell.. it is the best forest smell ever. 10/10.

One word it's a timeless Masterpiece !

The place I live belongs to a continental climate zone which means harsh winters and sizzling summers. This fact has led me to believe that most fragrances are shining their best self either in cold or heat, suffering a considerable reduction of developing their olfactory merits when they are worn in their less effective temperature spectrum. That never was the case with Pino Silvestre because it was always a breath of fresh forest air, incarnated by either the howling arctic winds of Scandinavia or the gentle summer breeze of the Mediterranean. The etymology of Scandinavia is yet to be decided, but since "Mediterranean" means the center of the world, then Pino Silvestre represents this term way better than any other male fragrance would ever do. Emitting its green waves from Italy, the very heart of the Mediterranean, Pino Silvestre is global, epic and staggering. Thinking that calling it the best male scent ever made would be sort of an overstatement, I'll just say that having a place in the ten best male fragrances ever would be no overstatement at all. I have never ever confused it with any other fragrance and I believe it's so classic that it's classicality itself. Something like the olfactory equivalent of Jules Verne and Alexander Pushkin, since it's wildly adventurous and plain equitable altogether. Or something like being simultaneously complacent and not complacent or romantic and not romantic, if you like. How many fragrances would not be laughed at by making such claims, even if they are around for six decades? And speaking of straightforward merits, who said that a fragrance has to cost a fortune to be stunning? Where I live you can have 750ml of Brut, 300ml of Tabac and 350ml of Agua Brava for 100€. Or a whole bucketful of shiny green pine cones named Pino Silvestre. Although it was launched some 20 years later, I believe it was Europe's answer to the other iconic men's fragrance coming from the western shore. Pino Silvestre's archenemy could be no other than the most popular masculine fragrance ever made till then. In other words, Old Spice. But since they belonged to two entirely different genres, instead of a legendary battle we were left with yet another olfactory masterpiece instead. I've heard its bottle being called tacky many times, but if I had to call it something too, then "honest" would be the word. What you see is what you get, simple as that. You buy a fragrance in a green pine cone, right? What would you expect yourself to smell like other than a pine forest? Its biggest advantage however is its aptidude of reassuring you that everything is going to be just fine. That even if the whole world has come to your doorstep, brandishing pitchforks and torches while demanding your ostracism from their modernity land, there's still a sheltering forest to hide and prepare your retaliation. Pine cones can be surely used as a last resort weapon after all, especially when unopened. Just like the ones after which Pino Silvestre's iconic bottle was made. I don't believe there's more than a handful of European men over forty who have never used Pino Silvestre at some point. And many of them are still proudly using it, no matter how hard fragrance evolution tries to lure them away. I believe it has a very certain association with olfactory childhood memories, and many of us are extremely stubborn when it comes to parting from them. And while most of us live in cities, surrounded by a passel of artificial smells, some of us still have a soothing pine forest forever rooted in the very centre of our hearts' geography. And what is a scent without a heartbeat throbbing it?...

I recently picked up a Seventh Generation Cleaning Spray and was immediately struck by it's similarity to none other than Pino Silvestre. It all makes sense when I check out the label, and the cleaning spray's main ingredient is...Thymol aka Thyme. Pino has always been a bit of a let down to me because it forsakes it's main task and name by being a fragrance that leads with herbs, mainly thyme, rather than PINE. What the heck?! The bottle is a dang pinecone (which is amazing), for crying out loud! Granted the pine is there (ish), buried under the citrus and herbal opening, but to my nose it is never at the forefront and only there if I really strain to look. Perhaps my nose is less sensitive to pine, or highly sensitive to the other herbal notes? I would actually be satisfied if this was a smoothed out pine-sol, as I do like the smell of that, and pine-sol actually does call to mind pine, albeit artificially. Beyond the pine misnomer, Pino is actually pretty good, especially for a cheapie. It smells fresh, in a highly herbal way, and the musk/amber/tonka base smooths things out as it progresses. Again, for a cheapie, this smells surprisingly natural and it is uplifting in a singular way I haven't really experienced with other fragrances. Is this going to work in the office, going out, or for an everyday scent? Eh, probably not. Pino Silvestre may have subverted my expectations on a pine scent in a negative way, but it came through in another way. It makes the perfect scent to keep around for novelties sake (again, one of the best bottles I've seen), and I actually like spraying this after cooking an Italian or strongly herbal meal...it comingles with the herbal aromatics in a way that just works. I may only spray it every once in a while, but it holds a pretty unique place in my collection. Pino Silvestre, the perfect kitchen sink fragrance! Side Note: In season 1 of The Bear, the kitchen staff complains of Ritchie's "Pine Cologne" and I had to wonder if they were referencing Pino.

So my father used to use this when we were in Europe and when we moved to Canada, he couldn't find it anywhere. Four years ago I bought a 100ml bottle online for him and gave it to him for Christmas. He was so happy he cried, one; because I remembered over the years through him always complaining over not being able to find it (eventually giving up on his search in the mid 90's when I was a kid), two; because it's always been his signature scent, which brings back memories for him. He ran out about a year and a half ago, but I didn't replenish it for him. He's old school when it comes to his toiletries; he also uses a shaving brush to lather the shaving cream on his face, which is part of his morning rituals. So long story short, his shaving brush broke about a year ago and I finally found one to replace it last night and I bought it for him. When I got home, I told him I had a surprise for him, hiding the brush in my hands. While his face lit up, he asked me, "what is it? Did you get me Pino Silvestre?", I kinda felt sad for a moment it wasn't his cherished fragrance. When I showed him the brush, he got super happy and hugged me for a couple minutes. So today I went online and bought him a 300ml bottle of Pino for $20. Can't wait for that to get delivered and see his face light up again. It's simple things in life, no matter how inexpensive, that bring joy to people. This scent showed me how powerful scent can be and how it connects with a persons identity. I can't imagine losing my signature scent for 30 years and then all of a sudden being reconnected with it, then running out of it again, like it was a foggy dream to have something for a moment and it being taken away from you again. I'm so excited for him, I can't wait! :D

OK....this was a $12 purchase...didn't spend a fortune so there is NO reason to be over critical...this brew is what it is...and it's great! Moving on.... Last time I had this fragrance was in 1987 .... purchased somewhere by the Sears Water Tower while at a medical convention at McCormick Center...I was not a fragrance 'hound' at the time and I probably purchased it because of its unique bottle...and was pleasantly surprised to find its contents was simply great! Traveling from Chicago back to NY (where I resided at the time) the weather remained cold enough to actually bring the best out in this fragrance...bear in mind, this is a cold-weather scent...don't think of trying this in the middle of July ... simply won't work... I disagree with several here who position this as a bathroom cleaner...thick with industrial pine...Not the case at all! Actually to my nose, its more spice and a 'boozy-gin' (courtesy of the juniper berries) fragrance nicely held together with basil, lavender and cedar...fresh, green, dry and simply magnificent. This will work on younger gents as well as the more 'mature' like myself...it is a straight-forward clean fragrance that compliments your colder seasons... For the paltry price, it should be in every mans collection...and the bottle design is an extra bonus!

I still have a nose to be trained but I can definitely understand the people who are saying that this smells like some "pizza spice." As a classic and a hyper masculine (in a non-aggressive, street-chic way) throwback to the... probably 50's, this smells like pine resin and basil to me. I get no lavender, no bergamot here. Just pine, resin and basil. There is a certain dryness on this that makes me get the spice rack notes- if there is such thing. Also, it does not smell like pine needles after a light rain, it smells like the part where the bark dries out and there are new pine needles in light green colour. The smell does not stay for long but it does not have to be, I think in the EDT form it is simply more than enough. It is strangely a sharp, dry, dusty and herbal scent. You can't wear this on a beach club that's for sure. But going to your uncle's pizzeria with your friends while also "working" in a "waste management company" is your thing, then this might be well suited for you. Timeless, very herbal, has some sort of tanginess to it, yet somewhat fresh, nostalgic and masculine. From the times where men had curly chest hair and thick moustaches. Would recommend.

Review of newest formula: The formula with the retro graphics on the box is here, and has been with us for at least a year or so. This version tames the intense woodiness of the prior formula, without entirely removing the cedar. It also returns the overall vibe to the aromatics, with a bright lavender/lemon/basil accord ringing out for an hour before darkening a bit. Unlike the prior version, this one has a bit of a honeyed amber in the heart and base, and longevity is more like two generations ago -- relatively short-lived at maybe four hours, and with heavy application you might squeeze out five with three of them being soft skin scents. I find it amazing (and encouraging) that Mavive gives its fragrance such loving attention. Here's to hoping they eventually ditch the sticker on the bottle and return to a clear sticker or painting the name on the glass. They do that, and it'll essentially be identical to what it was 25 years ago in both appearance and smell.

this is kinda like the scent of chopping a pine tree and handling the logs, with the bare hands or gloves, and then the scent of them. more the scent of pine sap rather than pine needles it is a raw scent. it's a light scent, but it's good, im not sure other than that how to describe it, it is just a natural scent, of piney nature, and it does last. i think way underneath and later on, a pleasant very light musk remains. I conjures for me the imagination of being on a mountain, on a trail through a pine forest, with nothing but dark green pine trees, and granite rocks and boulders around. and the dirt trail between them. the crisp mountain air and the cold grey rocks. fallen pine logs and branches is places. Pino, pine gems essense, the scent of pine sap, pine log, and a pine cone. being a natural fragrance, it would not smell out of place to wear this at just about any age, including when over 100 years old, but no young kids would find this wearable.

Now, this is the first fragrance I've ever smelled!!! I was (maybe?) 6 years old. My mon used to shop in a small local cosmetics shop in a nearby town. There I saw a keychain with a small pine cone-like green bottle with a brown cup on it. It was so cute, I was a child and it intrigued me! You see, it looked like a toy! I was told it was a fragrance and I could sniff it, if I wanted to. And so I did... and from the moody, gray town, I was immediately transfered to the high mountains, where their tops had still snow, the sky was so blue, the sun shined and the pine forests were welcoming the springtime. Every time we would go to that shop, I would sniff those cute little pine-like bottles and travel through time and place to the high mountains... That deep green, velvety, woody fragrance haunted me for many years. I've always thought positively of it, because I have these fond memories. I don't care if it's been reformulated. I respect it anyway!

When I receive a fragrance I'm not sure about, I usually feel the need to persevere for a bit. My original thoughts on first sniffing PSO were oh no gym changing rooms Lynx/Axe overdose maybe cleaning products cheap But I persevered and came to eventually enjoy the refreshing nature of this old classic, especially the herbal accord that comes on pretty soon after the zingy juniper/bergamot opening. Clearly this is a seminal and influential fragrance but it's interesting to note how scent styles eventually scale down from perfume to...magic tree. I wonder if Ambroxan will ever appear on bleach bottles? Lizzie Ostrom talks a little more about this in her excellent essay on PSO in her recent book A Century of Scents. Anyway, PSO is remarkably fresh-smelling for a 1955 creation and feels good to wear on cold, crisp days and I'm looking forward to trying it out again in summer. Cool bottle and great value too. Worth a go folks!

I had to buy it, just to see if some of the more amusing reviews were correct or not. I bought it expecting to be transformed to an Italian forest, with an automatic burst of pine and citrus, something to wear at Christmas perhaps..... .....The reality, rose tinted glasses away, mixed herbs from the spice rack, that's the only thing I can think of, the various citrus notes are almost undetectable, all I get is a mix of oregano, basil and rosemary, its so weird. I can't imagine the original formula smells anything like this current version, I don't hate it, I just don't think it's very good, and I have no idea when or where I'd want to wear it, maybe if I were going to an Italian restaurant? I love the bottle, it's really cool, the atomiser is pretty good. I recently picked up the Amber Woods edition, which isn't listed on here, a much much better option in my opinion. Worth owning as a curiosity.

Pino Silvestre Original I believe Pino Silvestre translates as Pine Forest from the Italian. A great simple name for this fragrance. First time I tried it, I did not particularly enjoy it. Harsh and overbearing. It eventually dried down nicely. Second time, much better. It's a spicy forest. The juniper is very prominent to my nose. Pine tree and cedar are also there. Like walking in the woods in Spring. Drydown brings musk, oakmoss, and amber. Lavender throughout. Also says bergamot and lemon, and I kind of get that. Citrus and pine seems like a strange mix, but here in this spicy forest, it makes for a good combination. Moneywise, this is a bargain. If you are looking for a pre-70s classic, and something more mature, you might give this a try. Have patience with it. It might feel like someone slapping you with pine branches, but the warm drydown is worth a little green bruising.

I don't get why some people think this is for old men or turn their nose up at it, to me it's a great refreshing scent. I particularly like putting it on sometimes when I get in after a long days work (office work and stuffy heat)after cleaning up and changing a couple sprays of this helps me feel refreshed and relaxed. It is definitely "old school" but that is it's charm IMHO. It's not as overpowering as some of the older fragrances due to the freshness vibe it has going on. It should be noted, that, price wise, this has a great cost to use ratio, I was able to buy the aftershave and shower gel along with the EDT for the same price a 50ml bottle from the likes of Boss or CK would have cost me, and I'm glad I passed up whatever their latest "sport" or "night" blah blah released this season is for a complete set of this great fragrance. Two thumbs up from me:)

A scent is a scent is a scent! Our own subjective judgement adds words such as dated, old fashioned etc. to it. Every single scent on this planet and universe can smell heavy or fresh or sweet or floral or woody and so on and so forth. When I smell Pino Original i do smell beautiful woody herbs and wood garnished with a pinch of citrus. Many compare the scent to Agua Brava and Acqua di Selva. Yes, they share a lot but they are by no means identical. They are related at best... Pino = woody herbs, wood and a pinch of citrus Agua Brava = Dry wood, pinch of herbs, no citrus Acqua di Selva = Wood, fresh herbs and a lot more citrus (bergamot) in almost equal quantity. All three are iconic and belong in every serious collection. Minor downside of Pino Original is the sprayer. After a few sprays the bottle is all wet. Beautiful designed bottle..

This is very plesant. Spa like. For that price a lot qould be fine. But this is actualy well made, musky clean but not the generic musk that is in everything these days. Very clearly coniferus. I can't wear it cuz it remindes me of my aunt who wore it ocasionaly in remembranc of her (very badass) grandmother. It was her signature scent from the first releas untill she died. Non of her grandchildren would have thought it was a Mans fragrance cuz it was just Grandma Musch's Parfum 😝 I searched it, knowing only my mothers discrbition of "looked like a green pine cone" never found anything until I spoted this little gem at my aunties. They where all shoked but amused that theyr very straight forward, no nonsens Grandma picked a Mans cologne in a time where moste leaned in to the hyper fem scents. Aparently it fitted her personality.

If I want to be mean this one smells like mouthwash but my partner told me this is how a dentist's waiting room smells like. So something to do with teeth :-) anyhow, this is the greenest smelling fragrance in my collection! For me carnation is very significant and I thought it has clove as well but as per fragrantica it does not contain clove. This scent reminds me literally nothing, which is a big plus because I hate having similar smelling scents in my collection! The box is lovely Christmassy green however the bottle itself is not my Favourite!! It has this very old design and it could have been a bit more updated by now! Overall it is a unique smelling super classic/old perfume which cost pennies and if you are a perfum-maniac like me, you must have it in your collection!

Wow, so this is my first male fragrance and I can honestly say it smells FAR from awful. Smells like lemon and pine. Kind of makes me want to go for an autumn drive. The tangy effect is quite strong it’s even on my tongue. I’d probably mix this with something much sweeter, just so I don’t feel like I’m in Venice being forced to have a shot of Limoncello! But I DO like it as a general fragrance (every damn hotel soap smells like this), so I get why it’s sold as soo many different products. Happy to have bought the 125ml tbh. Haven’t worn it for long, but at its price it really is just like being given a fragrance for free. Will be trying some more homme/uomini fragrances over the next couple of months. PS: the woodiness reminds me of Idôle. I absolutely love this aspect of it.

oooh pino silvestre. the scent of the outdoors. in a pine forest - depending on where you live if there is a pine forest or not. an amazing scent, but simple. i could wear this scent forever just since it is the scent of nature in a northern forest. pine trees, pine sap and creosote, and a crisp air between them. i live in the north, so i know the scent of pine - white pine grows up my street, and all over the region. though it is a different pine than is in this scent, this scent is the natural scent of pine through and through. it is really great. this is one of those realistic natural scents, in this case pine. nothing mind blowing, sure, just the scent of pine.

Pino Silvestre Original has been around since 1955. This classic Italian fougere will not appeal it all tastes. It’s not for fans of sweet scents like 1 million. This is for discerning and cultured tastes. It’s not a pine tree scent at all. It starts with a mix of juniper, lemon, bergamot and herbs. The heart of this scent is spicy with nutmeg, geranium and fir tree. The dry-down is mossy with hints of musk and cedar. Although it's is an old and classic scent it’s not an “old man scent.” It’s a very refreshing and earthy daytime scent. Longevity and sillage are moderate. It’s a very inexpensive high quality product that I very highly recommend!

Where’s the pine? I only get basil, sage and a bit of lemon. A tad of woody dry down but it’s more of a herby fresh smell. It’s not bad, don’t get me wrong, but I expected more of a conifer, foresty smell. Maybe it’s a difference between the after shave and the EdT? I have the after shave (foolishly delivered with a sprayer!) and it really lacks the pine note. But I still like the uplifting herbs and it’s a bit of a medicinal, invigorating kick that gives the skin a soothing relieve. It’s cheap and the bottle is classy vintage and brings back many memories from my childhood when this was found on fathers’ and grandfathers’ bathroom cabinets.

Ahh, the great fragcomm punchline that is Pino Silvestre. Seriously though, for all the derision flung at poor Pino, it is definitely not the worst-smelling frag. Not by a long shot. You have to give credit to what my nose detects as natural oregano (where is it in the note breakdown!? it is THERE), thyme, and caraway oils. And for a pine scent, it thankfully isn't overdosed with Pine Sol-esque Isobornyl Acetate. It's actually fairly balanced, if not a bit skeletal. I could see Pino as good for layering with a rose or patchouli scent. Or it could be layered with other conifer-centric scents, like Yatagan. 7.5/10.

It's my first review on fragrantica, initiated by first fragrance that i remembered. Almost fully agree with Kostas54. Todays formulation has vey litle to do with original Pino Silvestre cologne. I still like it, as it is unique, but wish I had a chance to buy and use original. It used to be an explosion of scent of actual tree,named in latin Pino Silvestre,mixed with lavander. There was plenty of lemon zest and acidity.As it dried down,you could smell caraway,clary sage,bergamont,juniper,to name a few... A great deal of oakmoss an cider was at the bottom. It also lasted much longer than todays formulation.
