Encens de Nuit

#1601 in my "Tour de Fragrance" My fellow guitarists know rosewood as a hard fretboard material that takes an excellent shine, stands up to punishment and has great acoustic and tonal properties. Perfumers know the bark can be steamed to extract a fruity and floral essence resembling freesia, as it does in this scent. Freesia is a note you never see in men's fragrances. The one exception I can find was a Nautica from 2008, "Sunset Voyage" that took its sunset voyage immediately. What guy wears lotus and freesia? To me, calling the steam-extracted, very fruity/floral essence of palisander rosewood bark a "woody note" is stretching it, but okay, fine. I see it more often in female and unisex scents than in men's scents. There are some men's scents that have palisander as a note that I've kept but have never yet worn them beyond the day they arrived. A few I despised enough to throw them away (Jimmy Choo "Urban Hero" is absolute pisswater). Only one palisander scent I've bought has gotten a second buy, Xerjoff "Alexandria II." But I've always thought the Alexandria II would be better with some incense, which this scent does feature. The coriander and basil offset the girly quality of the palisander and neutralizes the citrus so that it blends without dominating. The result is this really comes off as a subtle, light, non-aggressive woody incense. That has its fans for sure. For myself I prefer sandalwood and incense, agarwood and incense, and a I really, really prefer a darker, heavier incense, sandalwood and agarwood combination. I'm cool with this lighter incense, but I have an issue with the potency, which is really at an EDT level. Because it's not very strong this is carpool, elevator, tight office space It's versatile for any use in any weather, but I really don't see this as other than intimate wear because only an intimate partner will notice. Anyone further than arms-length probably won't notice it. You'd get the same effect showering with a woody shower gel like my favorite Cremo "Palo Santo". Got this as a decant from scentsplit.com for $3.99. They are the least expensive source I can find for 100ml bottles at $135. I like this scent okay. I don't like at that price. I'd recommend you try before you buy. If you like incense but you're sensitive to stronger incense scents, maybe this is your jam.

If you are looking for a carbon copy of Farmacia SS Annunziatas Nero Incenso, this is it. There is some waxy sweetness to the frankincense in this, which makes it a bit lipsticky. I'm not a big fan of that particular note, as I prefer the frankincense tob be lighter and sharper. Still a solid fragrance with decent longevity and sillage though.

this perfume strangely smells fizzy like a soda (specifically coke like other reviews have mentioned) but with something a bit more herbal/citrus added in there. it then fades into a nice subtle smoky smell as it dries down. i really like this scent i wish it lasted longer on me its so fresh and unique
