Versailles

The gourmand, baked-goods notes are front and center in this one. Citrus is subtle and definitely a background note. Smells like a honey-soaked cake topped with orange blossoms. Despite that, it’s not at all cloying and comes across delicately sweet. My only issue is that is that it fades pretty fast on my skin.

I could EAT this fragrance. Straight up lemon poppyseed loaf. Wonderful gormaund. Very citrusy and sweet. Feels youthful and fun.

I’m picking up a very pretty vanilla cake scent. It’s light, natural and easy to wear. I think the main issue though, is that cake and food smells are so common place in 2022, and Versailles smells like so many others. Also, you have to want to smell like cake, and I rarely do.

April 2024: I seem to run into this issue with indie houses and their use of (possibly) cheap fragrance oils. The type of fragrance oils one buys in bulk that could be used to make generic scented candles or air freshener, diluted, and sold. Unfortunately, this one (and a few others from this House) fall into that issue. Because of that, it’s not something I would wear publicly - perhaps mix in a scrub and call it a day. Specifics: I do get a little orange blossom, which reads creamy white floral, and then a tart blood orange note but they are both weak. I didn’t expect any powerhouses from Poesie based on other reviews (primarily through reddit) so that’s expected and not reflected in any of my ratings. If I focus there is a citrus icing but I wouldn’t say it’s vanilla. I do not get anything gourmand from this. August 2025: Tried this again today. I pick up the cupcake note and orange blossom more with a hint of citrus (think bathroom cleaner citrus; not realistic). Although I'm picking up different notes and both "cupcake" and "orange blossom" are much stronger after over a year of maceration, the sentiment above remains. I was hoping for something more realistic or decadent, but this reads more generic mass-produced fragrance oils that one DIYs and sells (I could be wrong). And because of the dispenser, one can really only put it on their skin. Perhaps on clothing it would smell better - but because this is so oily, I wouldn't recommend doing that. My favorite Poesie fragrance so far is Full Moon at the Temple. An experience was created there. NOTE: I want to express that my olfactory senses and what I pick up will not be the same as yours. Poesie's custom sample set is worth trying and I'm glad I finally did so even if the fragrances aren't for me! They might work for you and this could become your favorite indie house. This is just my personal experience and what I personally pick up from the fragrances I chose.

Lemon cake. Unfortunately, it has this cheap candle-like smell to it. It will have you smelling like one of those boutiques that sell homemade soaps and candles.
