Villa Diodati

i ordered a sample of this among others, and it is such a nice fragrance! in the bottle and upon first application, it’s a very strong rosemary, but when it dries down on the skin it smells mostly of vanilla, mint, and cool air, and it’s a nice change for me from the cake-y and heavy gourmand vanillas that are popular right now. so many fragrances—both “good” and “bad”, subjectively speaking—trigger my migraines, but this one surprisingly doesn’t! definitely something i’ve been searching for for a long time, and i’m really excited to receive my full sized bottle for christmas lol. one of the best fragrances i’ve had the pleasure of trying, and definitely a new favorite!

Villa Diodati makes me feel like I’m a witch standing barefoot on a wet, foggy lakeshore at dawn, with a bundle of rosemary in my hands for a ritual I’m about to perform. It’s worth mentioning I really disliked this at first but now I love it. And my impressions of this vary based on current weather; sometimes the rosemary is exceptionally prominent and sometimes everything is more subdued. So if you don’t like it at first, I think it’s worth revisiting.

This smells amazing. It dries down to be a lot sweeter for me after an hour or so. It's a bit more formal than other perfumes I got from Poesie. I'm glad I took a chance on this because I'm not big on water notes, but I realized I just don't prefer aquatic or oceanic scents. I don't get a ton of rosemary, it's very subtle for me and the balsam fir is stronger. My mom thought it was a bit mossy, but absolutely loves it as well!

I love this scent! The rosemary was very strong at first but it dries down to the sweetness of pine and something aquatic and minty fresh. It's a very transportive scent, once you smell it you are immediately captivated by its atmosphere.

literally the most beautiful thing I've ever smelled in my life. makes me feel like a ghost haunting a foggy lake shore. I want to be buried in this scent.

This smells like a foggy morning at a lake cabin in the woods. It's seriously therapeutic. A full bottle is on the way!

i love woody pine scents, but it's hard to find ones that don't just smell like a generic evergreen candle. this is a return favorite because it really accurately pins down the smell of a pine forest after rain, but i also have very mixed feelings about actually wearing it because it's quite pungent. initially, i get a strong blast of rosemary and pine resin. it's powerful (and might not be for everyone because of that). i personally love rosemary, and i think it's underutilized in woody scents because it enhances the sometimes fleeting smell of pine needles and sap. the strong pine/rosemary lingers for a few hours, and as it fades, the vanilla starts to come forward more. usually i don't like vanilla scents because they tend to skew sickeningly sugary to my nose, but this one reminds me of the warm sweetness of burying your nose in the split bark of an old pine tree, where the sap has been flowing and dried in rivulets down the trunk. on sunny days, or after precipitation, the trees are sweet enough to almost remind me of pancakes with maple syrup, with a dusty papery smell from the wood itself. this perfume is a gorgeous sensory experience that's deeply nostalgic for me of time spent hiking in the dense pine forests of the rocky mountains. when applied early morning, i can still smell a lingering woody warmth on my skin around bedtime. however, it projects very strongly, and is a much more potent perfume than i usually go for. wearing it in public makes me feel a little self-conscious, because i don't wear perfume with the intention of inflicting my scent preferences on everyone in the room, i wear it just for me. if i could dial down the sillage on villa diodati like 15% or so, it would be perfect. as is, i have to use it sparingly. it also feels like it's missing a note. like it needs Something to bridge the gap between the beginning sharpness and the ending sweetness, help them harmonize better and mellow each other out... i almost wish there was a hay/grass note in here, but maybe that's just the high desert nostalgia talking.

Quite accurate to the notes. The pine is super natural and fresh. Really strong rosemary scent, which I don't always love on my skin, but just compliments the pine really well. There is a definite aquatic quality to it, which really drives home that feeling that you're inhaling fresh forest air with a nice creek, dewy in the morning. The vanilla doesn't come through as much but it is there if you search for it and provides a nice warm base, it comes through a bit more in the dry down. Very pungent and woodsy, would be perfect on the right person but might be a little much for someone looking for a more subtle vibe. I do see the vapo rub comparison, but quite like it regardless.

Opens up as a lovely herbal, with fantastic execution on the lakewater concept. I tend to turn away from water notes in scents, they can feel a little too upbeat for me. They can be cloying in their reminiscence of beach products, but not this. This water is goth. It really reminds me of a dreary, moody lake. A lot of Poesie’s offerings tend to end on a soft and sweet note, this one not being an exception, but that vanilla is deliciously dry; the pine giving it a lingering and almost peppery nudge that keeps the sweetness more interesting. Powdery in the drydown, but with that water and those herby touches swirling together softly.

A natural Swiss chalet vibe to this scent, but I also can relate to the Vic’s vapo rub comparison below. Immediately I conjured up a scenario where Villa Diodati would work. My suggestion: this fresh, herbal pine perfume would make a good massage oil scent. The addition of vanilla is a surprise, but it helps ground and sweeten the profile. I’m voting “like” but only if Villa Diodati is accompanied by a masseuse.

I definitely understand the vapo rub/ bug spray/ citronella comparisons many reviewers make. It has a strong essential oil like smell but in an herbal/zingy/earthy way. I personally really enjoy this scent but it is hard to find a proper opportunity to wear it. It reminds me of summer camp in a very nostalgic way. Love.

Smells like a pine tree forest and a minty vanilla that isn't too sweet. There's something nice and nostalgic about this one.

Definitely rosemary and fir. I am not sure I want to spray it on me since I like very feminine fragrance. But it is interesting.

While I love each of these notes individually (particularly Rosemary!), all I get from this is a mentholated “Vicks” vapor rub scent on my skin

Very herbaceous, almost minty. A little sweet from the vanilla. I feel like this is what the first Twilight movie would smell like.

Straightforward pine-needles with water notes. You can really smell the vanilla after the fragrance settles. I can imagine using this on a fall rainy day in the PNW. I'd say it’s leaning towards more masculine because the mix of pine and water notes reminds me of cologne. I can just imagine: a tall brunette man with a beard, he wears caps, flannels, muddy boots, drives a truck, and he likes rainy days.

Reminds me of a campground near a lake. Really pungent and thick, like holding a handful of fresh rosemary and sticky fir needles in your hand. The aquatic note doesn’t jump out but rather hangs around in the background to add atmosphere. A little bit moody overall. I love this composition.

Without reading the notes first, after application to my skin I smelled fresh/herby and slightly sweet/creamy. It also smelled like I had just sharpened a pencil. After reading the notes, it all made sense. Lovely scent. Haven't decided yet if I want a full bottle of this.

literally vicks.. gonna keep the sample vial by my bed whenever i need a hit of that scent
