Popy Moreni

It is really a sweet perfume, but it is also fresh, thanks to geranium which I can detect very clearly. Coriander gives it a hint of bitterness, while coffee is present all the time and also prevents the scent from being too sweet and makes it warm together with the basenotes. So many opposites in this fragrance, but it is really fascinating and charming, very well constructed and not too heavy. Edit: Thanks to dear gesch I have now both edt and edp version, and the previous review was for edt. While the edt was about geranium and coffee, the edp starts with strong flowers: I recognize orange blossom and heliotrope. I prefer the edt, but the edp is beautiful also, but heavier and sweeter. They differ quite a lot though, at least on my skin. And I am so glad that I had a chance to try both concentrations!

I know which perfume to compare it with now. Even if this seems illogical, to my nose it gives this impression: The Coffee version of Joy Patou. So if you are one of the Joy haters, this may not be your style. But if you adore Joy like I do, this is the more warm version of it. FANTASTIC! Action

I thought this masterpiece was made by Sophie Labbe, but I read in my vintage books that this one was made by Martin Gras!

My bottle of Popy Moreni arrives today...I cannot wait!! If it's as wonderful as @Aspirina says....(A coffee flanker of "Guerlain - Samsara") I'm going to be over the moon with this one! UPDATE: It has arrived!! On first spray to paper...I smell....floral. No coffee what...so...ever... Similarities to Samsara are very strong...very strong...and that, I like! One spray to back of hand...same thing....floral...Geranium, Ylang, Powdery Heliotrope. No sweetness whatsoever, may have to layer with a vanilla or honey frag. Hmmm....this is more soapy-floral than anything and there is absolutely zero "woody" or "gourmand" aspect to this fragrance. It's not often that I reach for "Soapy" frags as they're they rate the lowest on my personal scale of favorites. (40 mins later....) The drydown on this is very soft and comforting!! The citrus and florals have died down to acceptable levels, still no coffee note though. Hmmm...this is pretty nice! The drydown on skin is VERY smooth! Still...I'm tempted to decant it and add a nice buttercream vanilla to it to smooth it out fully and make it more "Gourmand" overall (instead of screechy floral) as it is supposed to be. For $30 I'm willing to experiment...nothing to lose. FINAL UPDATE: Welp... Enjoyable but short-lived experience. The fragrance dries down to almost a "baby lotion" scent. The wife loved it!! So she asked for the bottle and i obliged. 😊 I'll keep it in my listing as I'll be stealing sprays here and there. But it's officially hers now.

It isn't even a coffee Samsara. There's sandalwood but no coffee. It's got heliotrope, not vanilla, not really. Well not today's vanilla. It's a woody, warm amber floral. There's some coriander and a little mimosa but mainly it's heliotrope. dries down to a soft powdery sandalwood. It's lovely, fairly quiet, easy to wear fragrance. Warm, snuggly and a bit fun for a winter walk. Think pink fluffy scarf and hat. With pom poms. Beautiful stylish bottle too.

I’m just trying my vintage miniature of the EdT for the first time. I think some notes have broken down. There’s no bergamot and I can’t distinguish the floral notes individually, although I do think their sweetness is still there. The coffee is there in the opening and I like it. It smells very very familiar and nostalgic. There’s a very strong beeswax note, probably the most prominent one left. Vanilla is there too. It’s a very pleasant fragrance. It reminds me of the 80s/90s, and definitely has a vintage vibe. but doesn’t smell dated. There’s something animalic too, especially in what’s left of the opening. It’s quite lovely and I think I’m going to get a full bottle soon.

This is coffee. I've tried enough perfume with coffee note with it to be surprised by how this actually resembles coffee, many of those before have let me down (one of them - Bond no 9). None of other perfumes I've tried have captured the way hot, black coffee smells, but this little gem, worth only 24$ does it. And I finally know that...coffee does not work on me. Funny, isn't it? It just doesn't work, it seems too bitter, too foody, I love coffee, but I wouldn't want to smell like this. BUT! If you're searching for a real coffee-smell, try this, don't try Bond no 9, no need for that, just try this one. You'll be surprised.

This is a complex vanilla based oriental, as the list of notes indicates, but that doesn't become apparent until after 30 minutes or so of drydown. Unusual in my experience, but that's what happens. In the opening it reminds me of vanilla candle, but then it morphs into something very satisfying. Very well-blended so that nothing is very dominant. A very lovely oriental and good i think for those who prefer a non-sweet, non-foody vanilla in their floral orientals.

I get some fruity notes initially then spices, woody amber - a hint of vanilla – hint of coffee is coming through slowly but not that strong but seems to balance everything well. Florals not strong on me but overall well balanced and not too sweet. I like it a lot but wish the sillage was greater - I think ok for day though. Worth owning just for the fantastic beautiful bottle now sitting next to Mauboussin :-)

I have the EDT, on me this opens very citrus, spicy and sharp floral.. Some vanilla grows while the citrus slowly fades, the florals goes more powdery.. I get the patchouli throughout but I do not get coffee. Its a touch sweet with the vanilla & amber but not really a 'sweet' scent. throw & lasting power are average,

Soft & cozy scent cloud, sweet coffee latte with a bit of gardenia. Reminds me of Spazio Krizia and Rochas Man, but it's more intense with that gardenia! That note isn't listed so it must be the combo of ylang, geranium & orange blossom making me smell gardenia.

This is such a beautiful powdery and sweet scent.I never smelled something quit like this. Im thinking of getting me a new bottle of this great fume I have bought my self a bottle of this lovely juice. I loved it then, I love it now

In the opening you smell coriander, sandalwood, heliotrope, bergamot, maybe mimosa and geranium. As it dries down this is all sandalwood and some coriander. There is NO coffee present.

I'm so disapointed with this perfume. I bought it because of the coffee note wich I like, but I can't detect it in Popy Moreni. It smells... just weard...

Another one from my cabinet of 1990s curiosities, Popy Moreni is mostly out of lockstep with the trends of its time. As a matter of fact, it seems to be in this heretofore unknown junction between 1920s vampy numbers and the weird, wild, wonderful world of the 21st century niche realm. Oddly coquettish, yet oblique in form, it starts off sweet and you almost think maybe this is ho-hum, but no sooner than the sweetness presents itself this fascinating geranium meets coffee shatters this expectation. Now the coffee here is more a patina than ground beads or brewed pots—I usually steer clear of that in perfume anyhow. Here, it reminds me of opening a container of General Foods International Coffee back in the day—the flavored, powdered instant product, specifically Cafe Amaretto. Yes, a pseudo-bougie instant coffee with the aroma of almonds, and I loved it. It turns out that its a growing heliotrope in its heart, supported with some mimosa and ylang, which transmogrifies from celebrating the moments of one's life with a hot cuppa to pampering one's skin with Jergens lotion. Floral, creamy, woody, powdery, I find this heart-to-base development to make the most enduring impression, eliciting sweet pangs of nostalgia. "Ahhh, life used to be so simple"—I think about the days where feeling a little fancy took a less effort and a whole let less money; when vanilla in perfume did not have to smell like a root canal in the making. It was when the early explorations in gourmand fragrance were still very much rooted in the principles of perfume and were not meant to be literal interpretations of the comestible. Kayali "girlies", don't even bother: if Angel made you retch, move along. This is still perfume with a capital P.

I admit even as a vintage frag lover, I hadn't heard of this one. It eluded me until I came across this website and read the positive reviews. I bought it on Amazon.com PRIME and I received the Eau de Toilette. I'm enchanted with the design of the package. It has a chess or checkerboard design and the bottle looks like A HERSCHEY'S KISS! And that's what it smells like too. When you put your nose to an actual Hershey Kiss you get that dark chocolate scent. This is a chocolate gourmand smell. Furthermore, there's a coffee aroma, like someone put chocolate in your coffee to both deepen it and sweeten it. At the top it's froth, vanilla cream froth. It's as much vanilla as it is coffee and chocolate. It's dark and delicious, warm, and inviting. It smells just like they made a Herschey chocolate flavored coffee. The dry down has a slight Oriental bent with patchouli leaves, sandalwood, amber and vetiver. On me these notes were lost except for the vetiver which gives it a sort of oiliness and the amber is also present with it's resinous warmth. This is a beauty. I wish I had discovered it sooner. But it's perfect for cold weather and winter time when you wanna wear something warm. It can be worn with coats, scarves, hats, gloves and into restaurants and coffeehouses or art galleries. Love this scent!

I tried the EdP only. There is a strong floral note/accord at first, but it doesn't last long. Within an hour or so, the fragrance goes linear. The predominant accord involves coffee, vanilla, and brem (fermented rice), with a touch of patchouli. It's not especially sweet, "boozy," or powdery. It's well blended and natural smelling. If you want a drydown that is similar to Pure Coffee or Pure Malt, but much smoother, this is one to try (if you don't mind the floral opening). It smells nice and lasts a while, but for me there is no "wow factor." If the coffee or brem notes were made stronger, I might want to obtain a bottle, especially at current prices, but instead it went more into a "designer" (rather than niche) direction. A great fragrance if this is what you are seeking (Angel this is not). UPDATE: I've had a chance to sample the EdT of this, and it opens up with a fairly strong rosy/geranium quality, but then it soon goes into the coffee, vanilla, brem drydown. I can smell the fermented rice quality better and sooner than in the EdP, which has a more powdery aspect to it. I like the EdT better, and for me there is a "wow factor" to this version, particularly the brem with the coffee and vanilla.

I received this today. 1.7 oz EDT. This is a weird one,at first. I immediatley got hit with styrax note..and bitter coffee..and I pulled back quick...LOL. But...like so many other scents like this that I own or have tested,have the "habit" of needing to develope and "open" it's truer self on the skin/chemistry. So, I gave it that chance. The strong opening leaves quickly and mellows out. Think vintage vibe type of perfumes...or "old school",which I happen to appreciate. While not remarkable, This is a "decent" scent. I get a chypre vibe from this in the drydown...with vibes (only) of, let's say...Coco..or even Sisley Eau de Soir "type",not dupe/clone. Further wearing will be necessary to determine more. The price is soooo low,but I cannot recommend a blind-buy fully for this.

An intriguingly distinctive blend. Rose-geranium claims the lead note, bitterly counterpointed with dark black coffee, in a non-gourmand way, There is a bright green flare patchouli that will not be ignored, while aspects of amber and powder (heliotrope) proved secondary support. Ylang-ylang and other sweet accents sport in the background. Now, each time I re-encounter its application on my arm, I'm restored by its novel energy. As for Popy Moreni's distinctive bottle, it certainly qualifies as a petite monument to some kind of vaguely sartorial surreality, ...Though do remove the odd cap carefully. That delicate-seeming needle's eye flagpole at the apex feels like it could snap off without too much effort.

My first expression is "arrggg...vanilla coffee..." I mean it's really sweet and vanillic on my skin, and I am not into sweet perfumes. However, after a while when it dries down, it gives me a mixture feeling of calming, soothing and quite exciting. I guess vanilla and coffee work well in this case. The perfume is very rich and thick. When I spray on my skin, it leaves a layer of perfume oil there. The two main notes from the beginning to the end are still coffee and vanilla. I wish my skin could project patchouli. Longevity: 5 hrs Sillage: moderate. Although I am not a fan of sweet vanilla, I can still wear it for a change.

The reviews below are so funny. Come on guys this is a vintage fragrance, why are you expecting a "sweet gourmand" like what is done today, you have 1000 coffee vanilla blabla fragrances to choose from the billions today's offerings. The fragrances from before were complex where the overall result was a Perfume with capital P, meaning a scent you don't smell in every day's life and not a superposition of raw material notes like what's being done today. Stick to your moka vanilla coffee fragrances please

I read Miguel Matos article and had no other option..I had to order it. I am glad I did it. This is an old school style, glorius resinous, amber scent with tons of coffee, sandalwood, vanilla. Maybe a bit of myrrh...this is deep, sensual and lovely. It reminds me a little bit of Guerlain L'Instant if it were a coffee flanker...or a coffee flanker of Samsara...haha... The bottle is wonderful. What a great finding. They could sell this for >$200 if it was a niche brand. But I got it for less than $30.

I just received my small 50ml edp bottle of this. the coffee scent in this perfume to me is more like a sweet coffee/vanilla candy and not brewed coffee like L'or de torrente. I get the coriander and vanilla, the vanilla is sort of carmel like with spicyness in the mix. I also get some sort of floral note but I can not detect which one it is. All in all this IS a very nice scent , unique, but not one to announce your presence but it stays with you all day.

Ooops... I hate Joy, too much civet! Thanks for the info, this fragrance has been discontinued and is hard to find so every little helps! I put it on my wish list as I happen to love discontinued orientals from the 90s so this looks right up my alley. The coffe note is interesting too, I love coffee in fragrances so already have Ilaya, L'Or de Torrente and Trussardi Inside alling having a coffee note in them. Do you have the EDP or the EDT version?

Having a coffee note, although not specifically a coffee fragrance, it does remind me of standing next to a floral perfumed lady who's enjoying a warm cup of potent java. Chock full of an assortment of notes this is intriquing, slightly mature, sweet and a bit dated. Very Italian, too. Strong start but settles down to a powdery scent. Spray on clothing it'll last until the next laundering. I dig the bottle and box. ✨

If you like that old lady hospital smell then this perfume is for you. I do not get any coffee at all but when I smell this it makes me think of a place I visited when I was 5 years old, that place was morgue. It starts out as a lovely smell of morgue than it fades into an enchanting smell of hospital, and the last phase is that old lady smell. Just a lovely perfume of death if you're into that :)

I have an old sample of this that i decided to try today, so i'm not sure the scent is still faithfull to the original. It reminds me of Irish coffee, when the warm caffee receives a splash of alchool to revive it. It does nor smell of alchool. I don't find it overly sweet and could see a man wearing it.

This is a sweet sexy powerhouse of a perfume.Got the EDT. A littlegoes a long way. Cozy for Autumnal and cold weather. Coffee note is subtle - a sweet coffee.This is a ylang ylang orange blossom bed spritzed with calming Geranium.Just gorgeous -many vintage lovers are fast asleep on this one.

I wish I'd gotten the coffee vanilla everyone is talking about. I got candy flowers, like sweet pink lilies, then it went straight to an old fashioned rose powder and stayed there. Might be nice as a bedtime scent, but I"m not terribly into rose or powder scents.
