Freakypirate explains this perfume very well. I just want to add that to me, too, this is such a delicious fragrance. Caramely sweet (immortelle) and balsamic, but with enough savory stuff playing along (lavender, licorice and eucalyptus) for contrast. They add a salty, spicy edge to the composition, which makes this perfume not only mouthwateringly yummy, but also very original. Good price, too!

1957 opens with a blast of liquorice, eucalyptus and lavender. Very herbal and aromatic. Soon the notes get a sweet undertone when vanilla and heliotrope appear. The peru balsam adds some spice to this mix and a tiny bit of labdanum adds some powder. The drydown is a herbal sweet and salty liquorice. Performance is ok, both sillage and longevity are moderate. Not just for men, any woman who likes a good herbal aromatic can wear this one. It reminds me of Fougere Bengale by Parfum d'Empire, it has the same sweet liquorice notes that are so addictive to me. 1957 has a bit more lavender than Fougere Bengale and instead of tobacco it has peru balsam. Yum, yum! I can't believe how much I like this kind of scent. Salty liquorice in a bottle, this is my kind of gourmand. I don't get much aquatic notes out of this one though, maybe a little bit of ozonic notes on top of a thick layer of herbs and spices.
