The opening is bright, sharp, intense, sour, sparkly, and very pleasant, the fragrance comes across as sporty, refreshing, and very appealing. The initial projection is moderate; the pepper helps to improve the projection. A moment after the opening the mid notes come up, they appear to support the opening notes rather than carving a space for themselves. The lavender adds a faint floral touch that softens a bit the citrus edges; the soil tincture adds an earthy note, almost green that enhances the bergamot; the metallic tone feels like a box of metallic tools or a box of metallic silverware, a curious and noticeable note. The coal feels just like, coal, a slightly smoky, burnt wood-like note that blends well with the pepper found in the opening. The watery notes are not prominent. Finally, Prada Luna Rossa Carbon reaches its dry-down and the ambroxan comes up creating a musky-lemony and slightly powdery note but very projecting note, it ramps up projection. The patchouli listed as a base note is a faint green fresh touch. The fragrance has some noticeable opening to dry-down change, the opening is citrusy, sharp, sour, but as time passes, the citrus note takes one step down, letting the ambroxan to take the lead of the fragrance with a musky-lemony note that seems to create a continuous opening to dry-down bergamot line. Once Prada Luna Rossa Carbon Men EDT has reached its full dry-down, it can be summarized as a moderate projection, musky lemony ambroxan, and peppery fragrance with some metallic, earthy, powdery, and very soft floral tones. The fragrance feels casual, elegant, energizing, exotic, fragrant, fresh, slightly green, inviting, masculine, modern, nicely-blended, playful, refreshing, sharp, slightly smokey, sour, spicy, sporty, versatile, zesty, and very pleasant. RECOMMENDATION: Prada Luna Rossa Carbon is one of the men’s bestselling fragrances and with good reason, it is extremely versatile, it performs well and it is very appealing. This is a great buy. Prada Luna Rossa Carbon launched in 2017, as a perfumer, Daniela Andrier, with a modern and sophisticated fragrance blended with masterful natural and synthetic elements, with a clean aura, fresh and industrial. A vibrant and effervescent abertura, like a bergamot with a citrus explosion, tempered with the presence of chili pepper, which adds a stylish and elegant spicy toque. No core, lavanda is removed, it contains a classic and aromatic freshness, but it has a contemporary composition that includes the use of metallic, aquatic notes, and a lifting toque to do, elements that have a "mid", urban and almost mineral composition. As noted by the strengthened fundo or synthetic-chic character of the fragrance: ambroxan dominates with its ambarado chord, limpo and sensual, enquanto or patchouli offers depth and a leavened amadeirado, sem tirar a leavena de fragrância. This fixing is fixed, within 7 hours it lasts, but it lasts for 7 hours. Projection/Sillage: Strong in the first hours, it is dark but it is light, but it is still visible. Final Rating: 8.8/10 Prada Luna Rossa Carbon is an excellent alternative to the DNA of Sauvage, but with an approach but elegant and slightly aggressive. A dark, electric lavender backed by patchouli to create an edgy fougere accord that’s both modern and a little bit of a throwback. It’s big, bold, and really beautiful. I know everyone compares this to Sauvage, and while I get the tonal similarities (bergamot, patchouli, ambroxan), they really are pretty distinct scents. Sauvage’s opening is both sharp and airier, less grounded in dark lavender, and honestly with a less realistic bergamot, but with its peppery notes already in place. That pepper carries Sauvage quickly into its post-fresh drydown which is rough, peppery, a bit sweaty, and with a distinct dryer sheet “puff” effect. Whereas Carbon spends a lot of time in its rich bergamot-lavender mode, bolstered by patchouli and metallic accents, before sliding into a smooth patchouli dry down. It lacks the scratchy woody-amber base of Sauvage, and honestly beyond an initial family similarity, the two go down different roads. Carbon strikes me as the smoother and more refined of the two, smelling a bit more natural, but it doesn’t offer the Janus faces of Sauvage’s distinct fresh-then-rough transition. Sauvage has never read to me as a fougere, whereas Carbon certainly does. I like both, but while Sauvage is still a sort of bête noire for me that attracts and repels, Carbon pretty much just has me swooning. To me, a more apt comparison for Carbon is MFK Masculin Pluriel, as both are decidedly modern, patchouli-grounded takes on a fougere, and both feature beautiful lavender notes. Carbon is the richer and bolder of the two, however. Definitely recommended for those with modern/edgy sensibilities but sympathy for classic vibes.

So it’s true this one has been reformulated and the new note breakdown seems accurate on the Prada page. They’ve taken out the pepper which use to hit your nose on the initial spray and the lavender no longer has that blue vegetal feel. No more soil and coal but instead they’ve added geranium which combined with the lavender makes it feel even more like a fougere type scent. To my nose it’s still got that bergamot (although it is less zesty zing and more subdued), watery metallic lavender with ambroxan and patchouli in the base. Longevity seems to be similar or even better with possibly slightly less projection. To be honest I think they’ve improved this although I know not everyone will agree. Everything I found a bit cloying about the previous formulation has been smoothed out and now it kind of hits a bit more like a more masculine Prada L’Homme with a smoother hit of lavender which has taken this even further away from that screechy Sauvage style. Overall, this is now a very modern and pleasant fougere that will probably become my new go to dumb reach.

Prada's perception of a flanker for the Luna Rossa line really makes no sense to me. They're really not connected at all by anything except bottle design and name. As far as designers that are fresh-oriented go, I find this to be fairly unique and for some, honestly signature scent-worthy. Not for me, though, as it honestly lacks that "it" or "wow" factor that I personally prefer to have as a signature. However, I think it could be one in that it's distinct, inoffensive, and easy to wear. Some would call it a "dumb reach." Longevity and performance are great--especially at its discounted price point. It definitely can dress down, although it suits business casual best. This ain't a young man's fragrance; it conversely is nowhere near mature. 25+ male in an office job is what I get from it. No wonder I like it then, as someone in that demographic. Cooler weather is probably best for most people with this, but has enough freshness that it would work year-round. 8/10 for me overall. Will wear it a lot, especially for $55 for 100mL.
