Prada - Marienbad It's romantic how amber, leather, animalic and medicinal notes create such impression. It's cynical, in contrast. Such quality provided like a sardonic laughter from all the great satirists. I mention to some dear friends how leather was always a nemesis to my small nose. Rosendo Mateu No. 5 taught me the hard way and imprint a bold "we never ever getting back together" idea on me towards those beautiful guys (minus the animalic and medicinal smell because it doesn't have it). Marienbad came like a boon companion to my resentful mind towards the said notes. She is a friend. She has skeletons on her closet; an homage to a will with a convivial atmosphere. I've tried it last night and upon writing this, I still pay attention and sniff the juice from a little black cap on the top of tall vial to get the majestic whiff—a rich journey that later penetrates to my system. Marienbad opened with a strong medicinal—almost spicy—notes, dancing and tingling my olfactory porch like a lover coming; knocking on your door like an SO with voluptuous manner... and it's only 7 PM. Yum. Fragrantica generously listed the notes and there it is: bergamot at the top layer of this perfume, revealing a clash of what would my nose had smelled. I sense a cold, if not, balsamic kind of scent. A cold scent, I saw the color brown and the sound of a busy city—a cold, rainy city with reflective cobblestones from the rain. I didn't really smell any bergamot at the opening as if she would hide it on her luxury purse, like a little delight to her big secret; she won't share it at all. Moving on, I sense my favorite thing, rose. The rose gave her a big white fur to protect her from a cold night in the town. Had I forgot to mention that the plum comes with it like an accesory; reminds me—pretty much—of Nuance by Brooksfield. Oh, nostalgic. She's coming from a limo, telling us that she'll attend a party—a ball or anything that will do with her fashion. Marienbad is pretty much a quiet woman as she always is. She took vanilla and incense with her upon stepping her heels to the base layer. Dancing slowly with leather and oud. It's like an ode to an old furniture: there is an old wooden chair in a fancy, big room. I have a complicated history with oud; it's running here and there in my thoughts, one of them is telling me "this is a nice end to a puzzling scent, a luxury to add." Marienbad doesn't abandon any notes, the vanilla is hanging from her lips, there's a slight chance that she will say it—but in the end, she didn't do it. There she is, swaying around with (now) her leather jacket and what appears to be—OH! AMBER! From when she enters my porch to knock my door, hold my hands to enter her limo, the little chat with her inside the ride, and all: she always carry the amber. The amber that is the whole of her. A little gem that she carry around the whole time; the entirety of her. Forget the bottled water or little amenities on your purse if you ever carry one—she doesn't do it. At the very base of the perfume, she finally hymn loudly to the amber that she carry all night, showing her pensive self. The spirit of her meets the persistent determination of how the night should be. She walks away, leaving a beautiful trail of a rich and deep scent. Oh, that is so her. 🧡

Named for the 1961 cult French new wave film Last Year at Marienbad, this selection from Prada's exclusive Olfactories collection is the definite standout and while I still need to watch the film, I can see from a review of its synopsis that this may very well fit its mood. However, this one conjures up a personal scent memory. It is one of the more positive flashbacks from my high school and early college years. Marienbad opens with a gorgeous sultry, medicinal leather fanfare punctuated with civet and bergamot, similar in vein to that of Bal a Versailles, but no sooner than I'm greeted with this exhilarating flash of greatness am I instantly transported to my past. More specifically, this is the exact smell of the head shop/bookshop that would permeate through the second floor of the Garage in Harvard Sq, Cambridge, MA. I recall the frequent visits with friends to shop for CDs at Newbury Comics, get a slice or two at Formaggio's or a wrap at Stuff-It, be dragged into Allston Beat to browse the hopelessly hip clothing of the 90s. Yes, of course this fortysomething will recall simpler times, but also far more challenging ones. It's a challenge to describe exactly what it smells like, but involves a medley of various incense, amber, sandalwood, churchy frankincense, nag champa, musks, powder, soap, rose—definitely rose. But on a very personal level, it smells of badges and pins on backpacks, Manic Panic dye successes and failures, listening to Low on cold nights, discovering my sexuality and unrequited crushes, my first time dancing in a club and hearing "The Bomb" by the Bucketheads. It is learning to find myself while processing family trauma. It is the precipice of being a grown up and all its anticipation and fear. It's my own Proustian madeleine, but never expected it to be quite like this. It's me, hugging my 17 year old self, reassuring him that he will be okay. This bittersweet swirl is stimulating but also comforting, and has easily become a favorite amber due to its ability to reconcile and feel compassion towards the younger me. You see, perfume does have that power, and will reveal itself when it's least expected.

This is what HIGH END fragrance should be and should do. This is C L A S S in a bottle; no ifs ands or buts about it. Bright, strobelight bergamot streaks across the opening two minutes, the brightness then fades quickly into a warm, rich plum that is closer to freshly peeled than dry. This is the opening sequence but as the cymbal like bergamot and brass horns that are the warm plum begin their jazzy serenade, here comes a lush rose that sweeps across the dance floor in a six to seven minute flourish. She leaves a downright ready to risk it all for a one night affair trail and the heart is now ending. The drydown is a fantastic combination of dry, smooth oud and rich buttery leather that engulfs a satin like vanilla that does a wonderfully slow and sensual dance with civet and incense- this part as it nears the full drydown is JUST HEARTBREAKING. You haven't smelled anything like this transition into a smoke tinged amber. This is when the REAL magic happens.. remember that satin like vanilla? Oh yeah, it never left the dancefloor..it now comes gliding back as the silky musk of civet and now shimmering remnant of smooth oud retreats...the vanilla now kisses the just appeared patchouli and gives the labdanum, ascending from the darkness out of seemingly nowhere, a huge bear hug. These are the three scents that form to create this amber..and this amber is FUCKING SHOWSTOPPING!! I have quite a few posh ambers in my collection because...I DIG AMBER, BABY!!! And, NOTHING I have smells quite like this. It's pure class. Think box seats at the Met on opening night of the opera. The absolute crowning moment is saved for last: the tolu balsam waltzes in and pairs up with this now astonishing amber and it's just....it will make you cry with appreciation and happiness...nothing I've ever smelled comes close to this. It's deceptively subtle while being flamboyantly chic... it's just pure class. Bravo, BRAVO, BRAVO, Prada... Exquisite!!! bon chance

Fragrance 9.5/10 Longevity 10/10 Price 6/10 I admire fragrance companies when they make something new, different, and interesting. It has been soooo much copying it's just so exhausting. I don't even know who is copying what but our current market is flooded with winners and wanna-be copies. Now speaking of Marienbad it is very different of fragrances flooded our markers today. Marinebad it is super sweet, sensual, warm, rich, and super exquisite fragrance. We "normal folks" may never have a situation to wear such perfume, I mean a Rolls-Royce parked outside my mansion waiting to drive me to a royal jubilee gala in London. With this fragrance you are a king of your own, you make your own evening the way you want it, and the experience Marienbad brings you will be no less of the royal gala posture meeting... You can create a royal prince of yourself by spraying Marienbad, instantly all of the aromas will bring you up to hidden quirks only wealthy and highly important people get. This fragrance will make you feel as if you are a Welsh Prince from 18 century, sitting on a throne in your own castle full of burning candles and incense. I love Marienbad for what it is, I hope many more brands would get a spine and follow Prada's way of coming up with something risque and less ordinary.

#1282 in my "Tour de Fragrance" Got this as a decant. This is a very likeable fragrance, but how could something that's a 95% copy of Serge Lutens "Cuir Mauresque" be other than likeable? Kinda a cross between Prada "Amber Pour Homme Intense" and Amouage "Interlude Black Iris." All I would say is if you have one you really don't need the other two, and being an iris addict I would of course opt for the Interlude Black Iris if I had to choose. If I had purchased the Amouage before buying the Amber intense I probably would not have bothered with the Amber Intense just based on the far more profound affect the Interlude had on the women who smelled it on me. But I would say this scent is more unisex than the Interlude Black Iris or the Amber Intense, though truthfully, the women I know would be just fine wearing any of the three. On me this is a moderate performer. More relaxed than the Interlude, and completely inoffensive and workable in any setting. But not so different from the Amber intense. If you had one getting the other would seem like you wasted your money. What would be the deciding factor for me in choosing is really a matter of price. I can get a 100ml bottle of Black Iris for $175 and that stuff always gets noticed in a verry satisfying way, for me anyway.

I think Marienbad is easily my best discovery of 2025. I spent the time testing the entire Olfactories line in Harrods back in August; on a tester strip this spoke to me straight away. 2 months later, I now have a full bottle and it’s safe to say I’ve fallen head over heels for it. It’s beautifully inspired by warm vintage ambers of the golden age of perfumery; gorgeous face powder and vintage soaps coming from what smells like shimmering, metallic aldehydes (even though they’re not listed), along with a powdered vanilla and amber base, with a whisper of civet and smoke. There’s something somewhat sharp and sour about it, but that’s what makes it stand out beyond its gentle powdery embrace. It feels like the lovechild of Chanel No. 5 and Shalimar, without directly smelling like either one. It’s got elements of both, yet with its own unique soapy Prada twist on it. It’s utterly enchanting and one of my favourite purchases of this year.

I only tried spraying Marienbad on my wrist twice at the Milano Malpensa airport today. But it is divine. It's super well-blended and balanced. As someone who shuns too animalic perfumes and too much civet as in YSL's Kouros, to my nose this is a CLASSY, elegant civet that is just enough to make a statement/slight head-turn. It is still clean and uplifted by the softness of the vanilla and powdery amber! This scent is unbelievably cloudy and smooth, with so many nuances to appreciate as the different notes take turns in briefly revealing themselves in gorgeous combinations. This fragrance is a beautiful crossing between dirty and clean, old school and edgy. It has a lot of character without being aggressive. It's undoubtedly on my wish list now.

  • em inglês

It is really beautiful and warm but I read the notes and I'm confused. I'd swear there is an animalic note in the juice and something like styrax as well. After I sprayed it on my hand the first thought was "wow, they put civet in it! Unbelievable!". The next five minutes I got whiffs of leather (obviously), styrax and incense. The "cat" abandoned me ten minutes later and the whole composition performed exactly like Cumulnimbus said below; a creamy sweet oriental leather. Sillage is really good without being annoying and longevity on my skin is impressing too. I wish I could afford a whole bottle but fortunately I have a small vial of this and I'll keep it for special occasions.

Not really sure with this one. Seems a bit old fashioned to me and a bit of a feminine perfume. I get tons of amber and vanilla which combine a bit weirdly with each other, being rudely loud and way too sweet. It was a bit of a let down because I love vanilla and amber scents. I got a 6 hours longevity with really good projection. Follow my scent journey on instagram instagram.com/scentsexual

Quite a dry, dusty amber... I get the leather, vanilla and other animalics, but by and large this is a pleasant amber right here. Part Ambre Sultan, part Ambre Loup, this is not unique or weird enough to grab my attention. Having said that, it's still damn nice, but it's not anything that blew my socks off... Worth trying.

This is one of the weirdest perfumes I've tried in a while. Andrier is one of my favourite perfumers in terms of her minimal style (in the most part) and it's reflected here but in a perfume which has dusty, musty, leathery and animalic notes relatively modern (Jesus 10 years ago was 2015 eeek) but smells like a million year old vintage. Every other person I sniffed it with talked about the plum note, now I pride myself on training my nose and often being able to detect subtle notes and accords but I just don't get plum from this at all. Opens with a saliva on skin, animalic note slightly dirty hair costus and the mild, breathy ick of monsieur de moustache (that Guerlain one they discontinued after over 100 years) then it's like this Miss Haversham attic of dusty vagina bats and tundra, I found it quite bleak and oppressive but strangely appealing that minimalist way Andrier's work can be the vagueness of it, until it's not and everything snaps into focus. The base as it dries down becomes way more pleasant, friendly and perfume like but even that is a surprise! Marienbad is full of the damn things! Fascinated by this perfume why it exists and the brand and line it doesn't seem right, it's just bizarre! I'm sure I tried all these upon their release but the oddness of this one obviously passed me by. I've only sampled it on card and my hand at the moment so I will update with a wear report but felt I needed to get initial thoughts down.

Lots of similarities with the old 1990's bottle of Pierre Cardin pour monsieur that I still have sitting around. I never made it through that bottle though, which speaks to the lack of wearability for that scent, for me personally. I would agree with the review below that says "Prada does Shalimar". This is more unisex and very high quality, but it is going to be more of a niche offering that the masses would never reach for.

Marienbad opens with a burst of soft spice and tasteful naughtiness, promising to take you on an aromatic, balmy and comfortingly animalic ride, only to burn out early and turn into a polite and vanillic powdery amber. On the bright side, it never really leans into sweet territory. While decidedly 'femme' and vintage, it feels too bloodless, lethargic and inhibited to evoke any sensuality or liveliness, while simultaneously lacking the nonchalance required to exude aloof elegance. But maybe I shouldn't hold all that against Marienbad, which was named after a former health resort frequented by an ailing European aristocracy and its acolytes, as well as aspirational upstarts. Maybe Daniela Andrier has actually created a perfume that is most fitting for a setting which was significantly shaped by languid Habsburgs in bathrobes hoping to find relief from their rickets, gout and rheumatism, while lamenting their dynastic decline over coffee and 'kolach'. The frail Habsburg nobleman, with his trademark protruding lower jaw, can only crack a crooked but knowing smile, confident, the appeal of his indulgences will be lost on the lowly peasantry.

Blind bought this and absolutely HATE it. Wow it smells like my Grandma and Grandpa's musky basement. I sprayed it on my arms and then tried cleaning it off, and now all that is left is a powdery softness which isn't terrible. But there is no way I would EVER EVER EVER grab for this stuff, it's just terrible.

Unique amber in my collection - somewhat more powdery and animalic than it is gooey or sweet, to the extent that it immediately conjured up memories of Guerlain's Jicky. Unfortunately for me, Jicky is unwearable because the civet simply screams on me. Marienbad is what I hoped Jicky would be in terms of how the civet is executed. There are many other facets in here that are blended seamlessly and on the amber front it doesn't remind me especially of anything else in particular - not more than mere echoes, in any case. Which at the end of the day I think is a mark of greatness in an overcrowded and overdone area 😊 Totally unisex to my nose but you probably have to have a mature nose to pick this over say, Grand Soir etc. EDIT 10 May 2026: I wore this today and it is still unique to me, and still mesmerizing. If anything I love it even more than 2 years ago when I first reviewed it. It has brought me joy and comfort all day, catching whiffs of it when moving around. Stunning work. Pushes the boat out just enough to be immediately different from your average amber, especially the crowd-pleasing 'pretty' ones. But still remains beautifully wearable instead of a conceptual, super abstract piece of work done for art's sake. Sample it if you can, it is so, so worth it.

I am not sure why they called this "Marienbad" ... a Czech town known for its mineral springs and roman colonnades. Or is this named after the most stylish yet inaccesible Nouvelle-Vague film? Either way, with a name like that I was expecting a romantically morose atmosphere... dark plum and olibanum, watery notes bordering on mouldy, stark incense conjuring up the memory of damp cathedrals ... instead when I sprayed it on I got the vivid memory of this new-age-crystals-tarot shop there used to be in my town called "The Magic Beanstalk" ... I guess if they had called it "The Magic Beanstalk" they might have not been able to include it in the exclusive Olfactories. That being said...even though it does smell like a new-age shop from the 80s ...there is something about it which I do still quite like

I tested Marienbad in the official Prada store in Milano. Out of the 10 prestige fragrances offered by Prada this was the most interesting. I`ve never been in Karlovy Vary (Karlsbad) or Marienbad so I can`t comment the relation of the name to the smell. What I get is a dark mix of incence with leather. The same leather that I get from fragrances like etro gomma or Knize Ten and incense like that from Comme des Garcons Series 3 Incense. The sillage of this fragrance is great. One spray surrounded me within 2 metres for about 2 hours. Great quality fragrance.

  • em inglês

Dark, warm, heavy. Not my cup of tea. Smells like vicks vapo rub straight away, adding to the initial old man vibe. Once that subsides there is something sinister to it, i could see a villian wearing Marienbad. Edit: 2nd wearing was better than 1st. I'm picking up on some of the lighter more redeeming notes now. It's calming and could be a good winter reach.

  • em inglês

This exploded with incense and oud like HELLO before it finally calmed down with that warm vanilla. The leather in it is on the sharp side on my skin, and something about this one reminds me of sitting at my dad's old WWII era writing desk with the dry wood and musty drawers. I feel like it's too close to "Day for Night."

  • em inglês

Animalic "dirty " fragrance done by the cleanness masters prada. This is civet, powder and luxurious soap with a base of amber sweetness. Old school musk with modern twist. Think of amouage gold but much more refined and wearable. Projection and longevity are excellent.
