Purple Rain

Iris, iris, iris and more iris. Iris plastique, iris fresh, iris carroty and rooty, iris poudre, iris clean, transluscent and simple. All of this from spritz to drydown at a low volume. Frustrating like watching a complex movie with the sound turned down to 3. Otherwise a pristine iris frag. If you are an iris soliflore lover and you like simple, delicate irises like Chanel 28 La Pausa EDT or Nomenclature Iri_del, you absolutely need to try this. Edit: I bought a bottle a while back and now I kind of disagree with what I wrote above. Purple Rain is actually a good performer with a long-lasting and prominent iris accord that reminds me of a cross between Frederic Malle Iris Hand Cream and Demeter’s Iris. That is to say the iris parts smell great and unmistakably iris-like, however synthetic. This accord, as mentioned by others, seems to be laid on top of the signature Prada base notes of orange blossom-soapy, iso e super - musk and cedar from Infusion d’Iris. In this way, Purple Rain is like a correction of Infusion which many complained didn’t feature enough iris to warrant its’ name. So if you’ve ever wondered what Infusion would smell like with the iris prominently cranked up (along with sweet violet) look no further. The end result is satisfying but gets a little cheap-smelling to me in the late drydown when there is nothing left but Demeter’s Iris. It’s still great stuff though and 100% worth the price for noses who love LOVE iris frags. 4 out of 5.

The luxury version of Infusion d'Iris, both price and quality wise. The smell is divine; if you love Infusion d'Iris, it's a more complex and richer version of it. It's more musky and has better sillage. Purple Rain is also a bit dirtier; it has an edge that you don't always get with Infusion d'Iris, even if I think that the last bottle I bought is a bit muskier than it was before. The iris is more rounded here than in Infusion d'Iris, less transparent. I'd say that Purple Rain has that Infusion d'Iris + a good sweat vibe, in the best way possible. I love that the name evokes Prince because it's on point for that fragrance; it smells expensive but in an eccentric kind of way. Like one of those rich old women who wear weird color combos and are invited to every museum opening, but no one really knows what they did to get there. So it's a rich iris scent, not cold or warm either, somewhere in between, pretty musky with good sillage and longevity. The vetiver and woody notes make it unisex. The price is horrendous, but I think, if you really love iris, it's worth it, as I don't remember smelling another iris fragrance that resembles it (well, other than Infusion d'Iris). I'm trying to find a scent I can layer with Infusion d'Iris to get something that smells like Purple Rain, but I've found some interesting combos but not the one I'm looking for.

Clearly a fragrance which is in the mould of Andrier's works in the Iris family and frankly this signature accord will be her and Prada's lasting legacy. I don't know if I'd forgotten what The Infusion range smelled like but I found this to be a little more sparkling than I remember Iris or Homme. Could be wrong though. Now as far as I'm aware The Infusions are no longer in production and I kinda understand the outrage at paying twice the price for what is in essence, the same thing. I'd have more of an issue perhaps if they were still making them, but if they're not then I'm afraid this is the alternative. As for the name, I'm a Prince fan so naturally that name can do no wrong. My thought process was...Wow! Loving that fresh bergamot opening, into a hinted neroli, with iris and vetiver heart and a cedar base. Classic and time tested as it comes, but at £280 a little much for me. The 'Night' ones in this line offer more perceived value as big, thick, concentrated beasts.

I’ve been eyeing this fragrance for quite some time. I love iris fragrances and Daniela Andrier is a master of this theme. I have found a full bottle at good price, so I’ve bought it without testing. I’ve read some reviews and people are saying it’s extremely similar to Infusion d’Iris. I would say yes it is, but but not 1:1 and there is definitely difference in terms of quality. Purple rain has buttery iris and I don’t find it so green and fresh like Infusion d’Iris. Also mandarin is missing and overall it has some woody fruitiness. This is amazing iris fragrance, modern and transparent.

Purple rain remind me neither about the color purple nor rain ... BUT... I like it... I find the galbanum and light juicy citrus opening unique and interesting. By then, of course I was wondering, where it the purple or the rain... after the juicy citrus + galbanum combo is gone. Slowly metallic iris appears- but there’s a warm powderiness from the violet and musk + sandalwood. I love the make up-y iris violet combination here also. To make things even more interesting, the vetiver came slowly as the base. Unfortunately it doesn’t last that long on my dry skin. Too bad...

Wow. This is the perfect iris for me. I agree with lada that it is a clear, blue iris. So well balanced - not powdery like L'Infusion, and not crazy and unwearable like the Lutens. The supporting notes of vetiver and neroli are not 'there' as in distinct, but they give the iris a sort of wet quality, like it's enveloped in a cool mist or fog. Simple, elegant - and lasts forever. Better start saving for a bottle of this!

Was seriously looking into buying this fragrance during my trip to Rome. I absolutely loved it intitially probably one of my favorite scents but I don’t think the price is justified at all. Might just be my skin but I sprayed it on myself at the store to see how long it would last and about 15 minutes later could not smell it at all which is a true shame I really do love this fragrance.

Quite identical with Infusion d’Iris - a wonderful approach of iris here. Really soapy and soft, I get little to none projection (skin scent) and limited longevity (3 hours or so), which is quite disappointing, if you have in mind that this is a 300$ (260euro) eau de parfum. Purple Rain is beautiful. It is similar to the Infusion line but if you are long into collecting you can tell that it has much higher quality, it is subtle, smells expensive, you can tell it is a Prada, it has their DNA. Price isn t the cheapest but I can live with that

Absolutely beautiful scent, but a redundant purchase if you own any of Indusion d’homme, Indusion d’Iris or Iris Cedre.

A portrait of iris, sketched in mist and light. Not tangible, not ghostly, just gently hovering like powder on skin, the breath of fabric still warm from a body. It opens cool and taut: the stemmy green snap of iris root before the cream blooms. Metallic, green, faintly bitter, the botanical heartbeat of orris in its raw, rooty form. And iris in all its dialects is here: vegetal, cosmetic, softly melancholic. There’s the cold clay texture of a lipstick snapped fresh from its bullet, but also the watery calm of iris steeped in fog. More Santa Maria Novella's L’Iris than Chanel No.19. Though unlike SMN’s dry, stalky insistence, Purple Rain feels gentler, moisturised: the difference between a linen curtain and a chiffon scarf. The orange blossom here is not standing front and center, but it’s present, thinly sliced, citric, a silken thread of neroli-clean brightness winding through the iris. It doesn’t scream sunshine; it suggests it. Softly, yet clearly. More gleam than glow. And alongside that brightness: a milky curve. A hint of lactic softness, like steamed sap milk with a trace of floral lotion stirred in. It’s musky too, but not bodily. Think Musc Outreblanc’s damp-skin sensuality, only now diffused and sterilised, dipped in silvery light. It has that rounded, laundry-skin fuzziness, but pulled back, distant. And there’s something strangely poised about it all. It smells expensive. The blend is tight, the transitions quiet. Nothing juts out. It feels... composed. Like a woman brushing her hair in a fogged mirror, the faint scent of soap and iris still in the air. I mean, is it unforgettable? Perhaps not quite. But I keep sniffing the paper, and that tells me something. Understated, atmospheric. I don't know if I'll wear it. But I’d watch her walk by, again and again.

Purple Rain is kind of an Infusion de Violette. The opening gives a clear reminescence of Infusion d'Iris, with this green, citrusy and clean musk signature. The green and clean feeling lasts a while and then surrounds a violet heart, a sweet and floral Parma Violet but with a sightly aquatic, watery aspect. In the drydown the musk remains and the violet melts with vetiver, giving shy sparkles of a peppery scent, nothing like the fluffy balmamic base of Infusion d'Iris EdP. I wonder how this fragrance compares to the now discontinued Infusion d'Iris EdT. I remember loving this violet-centered fragrance, I wish I had a sample to compare them side by side.

Iris powder woords... Starts with harsh iris, and settles to tender woody powdered iris. The Iso E BLOOMS softly in the base note that shows the creamy milky texture of powder essence. Actually, this is the kind of scents that is kept personal and requires to be within the intimate silage cause it hugs you, and hugs those who comes close to you as if it will represent your personal odor to those who comes near to you. Beautiful.

- I get the smell of carnation from this. It's very likeable and has a cooling effect.

This isn’t gonna work – it’s soft in that not only does it not project all that far, it also suffers from being quite ‘light-on’ in scent, itself. At this price, I was expecting Nasomatto-style projection! Light iris-plastic with a few leathery-animalic elements. Soft, but present. A light woodiness and what might be vetiver – mild, though bearable. Not my favourite, I must say...

Very nice and fresh Iris. Opening is gloriously bright Iris that is very uplifting. Difficult not to like, and as long as you have the budget, this will be an easy grab for those warm days that you want to feel clean, refreshed and classy. The Iris tones down in the mid and base and it reverts to a nice clean scent.

Clear shot iris and violet with perfumer Andrier's signature soapy clean musk accord that she uses in other Prada scents. Very nice, lux feeling clean iris musk. Cargo de Nuit is darker slightly sweeter, more hazy with the tonka addition but you can see the relation between the two.

Take iris silver mist minus the cloves and church it up with fresh neroli and soapy vetiver. I don't get anything purple, more of a off white slightly green hue. I"d call it Respiro de Angelo. P.S. after searching and searching for my perfect iris, purple Rain is still numero uno.

The opening is very beautiful: For 10 minutes or so, you get a bitter and natural orris root note. But then, here comes your old friend "Infusion d’Iris" and the surprise is gone. Yes, it is beautiful, but I was waiting for a Purple Storm, not for a "Infusion d'Iris" flanker.

Predominately an iris scent. It weirdly smells like carrot juice on me. With a name like Purple Rain I was expecting something with a Prince influence maybe. Something purple, jammy or plummy. Nope, a soft powdery scent thats light as air. Pass.

I honestly get just iris, iris, iris, and later on, it's iris warmed up with neroli. I personally prefer the Infusion series. Purple rain is pretty, it's casual, but Infusion 'd Iris is more interesting to me since it has the incense and cedar.

Is Prada riding the short bus or a perfume mislabel here? This smells exactly like Infusion D'Iris EDP that costs half price this bottle in their infusions line. Same size and concentration. Redundancy overload!

Between Un Chant D’Amour and Purple Rain, I much prefer the former. Purple Rain resembles Infusion Iris a bit too closely for me—I can’t quite find anything new or distinctive in it.

This is a nice classy fresh clean iris woody scent, moderate staying power..definitely Unisex, it has a cologne vibe..this is perfect for summer and spring days.

It is a descendant of infusion d'iris mostly. but there is a touch of iris silver mist from Serge Lutens.
