Insuline Safrine

Currently testing this from the tester set I got from Première Peau. It opens with a very reminiscent smell I get from a candle I’ve smelt before. If buttered popcorn, cooked sugar and sweet almond pastry had hot sex, this is how it would smell. If you close your eyes and smell, you’d think you were in a patisserie. I have a sweet tooth, so this absolutely tickles my fancy! On the dry down though, the saffron is more apparent, with a spiced cinnamon maintaining the sticky sweetness. Like a hot cross bun because the bakery notes are still lingering. I imagine this smells a lot sweeter on a female, as a male’s natural ‘musk’ helps give this spice more of a bite. Personally I find this very long lasting with care, and a very pleasant aroma. PP are 3 for 3 out of what I’ve tried, and I’m now struggling to decide which one I want to spend my money on... 👏👏👏

Insuline Safran took me by surprise. First off, I think this is a true gourmand. There's a very prominent cake note that isn't listed on Fragrantica. This makes it quite buttery and rich; and I don't think leather should be anywhere near the top of the pyramid. I also don't think it's anything like Babycat or Queen of the Night, like, huh? This is a gourmand that rides the line of being edible. Now for the scent itself, it's very beautiful and I'm pleased to say it makes me want to explore more sweet-ish gourmands. The juxtaposition between the cake, saffron, leather, and sandalwood is done near perfectly. Everything is balanced quite well.

Just got my discovery set from this brand and... yeah. It’s giving scandal. It’s giving late-night sunset, over-the-top and unapologetically dressed up. Full-body vanilla, but make it sculpted. This is luxury that doesn’t beg for attention. It owns the room. Projection is off the chart, my boyfriend could smell me in the other room. I’m obsessed 😍

And there go my savings again as i have no self-control when it comes to gourmands Tried this one in the sample set and it’s ridiculously potent, I was choking out everyone in a five-meter radius. Wonderful saffron note, not medicinal, more leathery. I don't get the 'French pastry' note it's just more butter and puff pastry to me. Delicious.

the only gourmand in the collection, and the most favourited one until now. reminds me of Generation Godard from Toskovat : burning salted caramelized pop-corn, sirupy. Very lovely. Unisex but feminine leaning. Night-out scent.

Wow, smells just like a butterscotch cookie!

I get all of the notes at once. The saffronated praline smells like a now-dry dishtowel used to mop up flavored coffee creamer. A much more appealing sweet fruity orange blossom fights to be heard underneath. It smells better balanced on fabric than on skin. It finally starts to smell altogether mellow and pleasant after about an hour and the leather emerges. The leather blends with saffron and the praline fades to a toasted hazelnut and vanilla. I must admit that gourmand is one of my least favorite categories of fragrance and so it is difficult to be objective here. But useful warning, don’t even bother with this one unless you love hazelnut and caramel notes. It is, as advertised, a leather scent with saffron and sandalwood but the gourmand essence is substantial and unavoidable for the first hour. Now that I’ve sampled all seven, It turns out Albâtre Sépia (cozy, not-too-sweet vanilla) and Simili Mirage (earthy, immortelle and leather) are my two favorites from this brand. The other five: Doppel Däncers (musky iris on steroids), Rose Monotone (whisper-quiet crystalline rose), Nuit Èlasique (unisex jasmine), Gravitas Capitale (unisex spa-like tuberose), and then this one Insuline Safrine (nutty saffron leather gourmand). 2.5 out of 5.

A general note on the brand. I received the sample kit of 7 samples (€50) and it contained 1 other sample than expected and I also missed a sample, so what the box tells does not correspond to the content. I was surprised to find the liquids in “natural” colour though the perfumes are advertised each in a distinct colour. I am more a fan of balanced and sophisticated perfume and therefore none of the 7 samples have charmed me. I was not impressed by the advertised “boldness”. What a pity.

Insuline Safrine is the most decorative member of the collection, smooth, creamy, and softly spiced, like satin and gold. For me, it leans a bit too sweet and ornamental, more of a gourmand comfort scent than I tend to wear. Still, I can see its appeal, it’s plush, warm, and undeniably well-built. If Doppel Däncers is the charismatic gentleman, Insuline Safrine is the elegant host, polished, graceful, and always inviting, just not quite my style.

I don't know where the babycat comparisons are coming from. This is not babycat. I hate that scent. This just smells like almonds and vanilla. Very nostalgic but I can't place where from. Its beautiful; can be rather salted almond but the vanilla and praline definitely helps.

Gorgeous delicious decadent scent. I cannot get enough of it ! Oozing sweet pastry in sugar, almost a bit Baklava, ordering a second bottle of this one.
