Sailor Star Fighter

Gardenias and strawberries are the standout, then the sandalwood and musk shine through!! It seems like Fighter/Seiya would wear this, and I'm so glad I love it as much as I love the character! I usually can't bear the smell of ANY perfume or strong scent/cleaner/detergent/soap but I had to get this for my Star Fighter collection. And I was PLEASANTLY surprised to find that, not only can I tolerate this scent, but I LOVE IT!!!!! Not too strong or floral, just gardenia which is a wonderful scent, then it relaxes into strawberries (another great smell!) and musk. It's a scent that would be great for men or women, but probably more masculine as it matures. It's just awesome in every way and did I tell you I LOVE IT?!

Primanicas‘ “Sailor Star Fighter” starts off as a slightly citric scent, with gentle bitter notes being cradled by white florals. It reminds me of SJP’s „Covet“, which I like. 15 minutes after application, the sour notes subside, while the bitterness mellows and spreads out. At this stage, I get a mix of hyacinth, galbanum and an unusually green gardenia which just as well might have been a lily of the valley because it is neither heady nor creamy. 30 mins in, the gardenia is bolstered by a transparent heliotrope. At this point the fragrance feels hazy and purple, although without much depth. From here the product feels out of character and I start wondering if this wouldn’t have matched Sailor Star Maker’s profile better. 1h in, the green bitterness remains, whereas the white florals more and more subside. From about 1h30 minutes in, amber notes - a warm, soft, synthetic spiciness - start to break through, while the green notes are practically gone. From here, the fragrance weakens drastically; 2h in, I’m left with a skin scent. At around hour 3, the promised strawberry finally becomes detectable. It is neither big and fragrant as in “Chevaux d'Or” nor is it girly and sweet as in “Daisy Eau So Intense”. Rather, in “Sailor Star Fighter” it reminds me of the dark, jammy, stale strawberries you may find in strawberry yoghurt. While this might sound bad, rest assured that since it’s very faint it doesn’t really matter. At 4h30, the fragrance has turned into a skin scent. At this stage, “Sailor Star Fighter” carries a warm undercurrent that gently fades out about an hour later. To sum the experience up: Primaniacs’ “Sailor Star Fighter” is a soft, unisex green floral. While not being special, it is not unpleasant either. However, like all Primaniacs fragrances, it is hard to obtain outside of Japan and if you can get it, online vendors usually make you pay about three times the original price. Yet, given the quality of the scent, even the original ¥4000.- for 30ml can be considered steep. Therefore, if you want to get an idea of whether or not you want to invest that kind of money, I’d really urge you to take a sniff at SJP’s “Covet” first, because this will give you an idea about the fragrance profile of “Sailor Star Fighter” If asked whether with this product Primaniacs developed an embodiment of Sailor Star Fighter it’s a clear “no”. While the start - a prequel to their feminine side - makes sense, as it progresses, this fragrance does not evolve as it should have. It remains an elegantly laid-back midtone purple / light green combo but never proceeds to Seiya’s signature red and yellow and black. It never gets dynamic and naughty and mischievous and fun. As for a final verdict, just as with the “Sailor Uranus” fragrance, I will refrain from giving a recommendation based on age or gender or even quality. This product clearly targets Sailor Moon fans and as a piece of merchandise, I can still kind of agree that a fragrance, even if it is not that well made, is a creative choice. However, again, if perfumes are a serious hobby of yours be aware that this is not a great stand alone fragrance. TL;DR: “Covet”-dupe with extra gardenia. This is not Seiya.

Haven’t tried this perfume (yet 🙌) but I just wanted to say... Seiya honey, my boo, my dashing knight, I LOVE YOU and I WILL ALWAYS ROOT FOR YOU. Anyways, I stan this queen/king.
