Eshu

I'm mostly getting an incense-heavy Scotch Peat (from the Strangers line) that's less earthy & green. Performance is pretty good. Both are great, but this isn't worth the higher price. Edit: After further testing, I've realized the incense in this reminds me of Amouage Epic Man. I still often get something like Scotch Peat from this though, so it can be thought of as a mix of the two. I'll have to continue to try it to see if it's worth getting.

True to it's Legba namesake, this fragrance is very spicy and mischievous. I get a fair few random compliments when I wear it which doesn't happen a lot with other Prin fragrances I wear frequently. It's mid-range price point in his flagship line makes it a pretty good blind buy. One of the safer Prin frangrances, but no less a masterpiece. Definitely worth a try.

Eshu is another Prin scent that has a subtlety that some will appreciate while others will think it a less than perfectly blend of too many notes. I am in the former camp. I find Prin's scents that I own or have tried all share some common DNA, yet all are different in enough ways it is worth getting samples of as many as you can. This is more heavy on the woody notes than the tobacco so if you are in search a Ford TV don't bother with this one. It isn't timid but it is mild that nevertheless has good longevity. I love being able to pick up hints of the many notes, although a few I have not smelled enough to be able to recognize them. It is also difficult for me to know how much I am primed by reading the notes and then smelling the fragrance. Is there really a cinnamon note I can detect or it it the listing of it that makes me think I can? I think it is mild enough to wear during any season as a daytime scent. I am not swooning over this scent, but it is also far more nuanced than most fragrances on the market today.

Playful, eccentric and quite unique spicy woody scent from this talented young perfumer. The perfume opens with boozy gourmand notes of cinnamon, pepper, nutmeg, and a very prominent tobacco. The heart is a strange concoction of hay, cedar, elemi, ash and copaiba resins. The perfume settles on a bed of synthetic amber, oakmoss, cedar, olibanum and castoreum. The perfume is supposed to invoke a mischevious African spirit god and it actually does quite nicely. It is not for everyone but there is nothing quite like it. The masculine leaning scent has moderate to strong projection and very good longevity. Must try for lovers of tobacco based fragrances and those into unique, exotic woody scents. Enjoy!

Wanted to try the house as it's got a hefty amount of hype in the artisanal niche-sphere. Blind bught this one as it seemed the safest and I was pretty certain it was going to be a fail. Well, I was happy to be wrong. This is nice wearable excentric sort of scent. It's kind of hard to describe but there is nothing off putting or animalic here, and it smells artsy and peculiar in a good way. Now as for the value here that's hard to justify for a 30 ml, this is expensive and pretty much a 0 chance of getting it cheap, which let's face it is a big downside for most people. That being said I like it, i enjoy it and I bust it out more than I thought I would.

Resinous, warm and comforting. Very natural smelling, and the notes are well blended. The pepper is prominent in the opening, but settles after the first hour. Something in this reminds me of the richness of coffee without smelling exactly like coffee.

I will try to explain Eshu's character and overall aura rather than its actual smell. during my travels through northeastern Brasil I had a privilege to spend a lot of time in terreiros, the Candomblé temples, observing the worship rituals. what does it have to do with eshu? in short, Candomblé has an African origin, incorporating many of the indigenous rituals, resin and incense burnings in particular. for this Prin uses the copaiba balm, very distinctive for me in Eshu and quiet popular in Brazil, along with elemi and olibanum. now in Nigeria, copaiba balm was used for centuries in Yoruba culture as a medicine, along with many other resins that this country still supplies us with up to this day. when I first sprayed Eshu I was taken back to those fragrant and mysterious terreiro celebrations in a blink of an eye. surrounded by lush jungle greenery far from the city noise, in a front yard of a simple wooden house, the air is packed with aroma of exotic herbs and flowers that decorate the scene, smell of the red soil dust and sweat from shamanic dances, sweetened by tons of burnt incense and filled with distinctive ash smell after animal sacrifices have been made. 21 century? no, sorry, never heard of. to me this is a very special, spiritual scent, a scent of a farewell complex culture that I don't belong to or fully comprehend, but nevertheless grew to love so much. thank you Prin. well played.

Smells resinous, rich and layered in the vial but on skin, I immediately get burnt rubber, wood alcohol, oud and labdanum resin. Overall it’s a huge no, but with a lovely base. It mellows some, into a rotting forest floor kind of wood, plus that acrid sharp edge of wood alcohol, a weirdly sweaty feeling from the cumin seeds, but not distinct enough to be called sweat, and the burnt elements. The resinous, forest-y elements are subsumed, sadly. This was a major miss on me. It does last ages, though.

A stripped down, friendly version of Aranyaka’s DNA but without any of the defining animalistic character. Instead you trade out goat hair and raw agrestic herbs for a more light hearted, uplifting herbal flair. After about 30 minutes it’s essentially the far drydown of Aranyaka.

I get LIME and I am here for it!! I don’t get a single note on the list, just lime/rose and it is !good! Is my nose broken? Maybe. But this scent is incredible either way!
