Krissana (กฤษณา)

This is one of my favourite fragrances that fall within the 'oud' genre of modern perfumery. Note, this does not mean that: - It is best take on aged agarwood at room temperature - It is the most pure take on agarwood resin - It is the smell of agarwood smoke - It has the raw beauty of high quality oud oil Because, it is none of these - there are other perfumes out there which do a better job at each. Hell, there are probably better Oud/Rose fragrances out there. Yet, I feel that it does a good job at representing each and every facet of agarwood. Agarwood is a complete fragrance in and of itself, it can have any number of notes, an almost infinite sense of depth, mind numbing coolness, gourmand notes, etc. etc. It is exactly that which I believe this fragrance excels at, it is a representation of agarwood in all of it's facets. Could it have been more? I guess... I would have no problem paying more for Prin to do a similar fragrance but really only using the highest quality ingredients and blending. On application, Champaca, Slight Rose, Clove, slightly plummy Oudh (smells more like a nice resinous chunk of agarwood at room temperature). As with most Prin fragrances, it can be hard to distinguish one note from another each note tends to blend in with the next - you start to smell champaca and within a few seconds your mind is identifying rose, benzoin, oudh. As it develops on your skin, the Champaca fades, the Rose fades a bit, the Jasmine comes out - and the perfume settles on a bed of Oudh, Benzoin, Amber, and a small hint of the florals. Whilst we may wish that it had been more, I do think that this is one of the best Prin fragrances and one of the most approachable. 8.5/10

Warm and mellow, beautifully rounded and golden oud - just as rugged, authentic and deeply woody as many others of the Prin stable, but all the sharp edges carefully smoothed off and burnished away. No animalic snarl, or blue-cheesiness / barnyard kind of oud, or tannic leather, or surging spices here. Nowhere near as challenging as the downright feral Mriga, Homa, Arsalan or Eshu, for instance. Even Varuek, which has its cuddly side, is more of a rough beast. Instead, here, the almost-waxy sweetness of the champaca and amber and resins just make Krissana curvy and voluptuous, robust without being obnoxious. Hardwood worked by a master craftsman to bring out the grain and the contours, not just whack you in the nose with a giant sour-oud-scented club. The rose is discreet - the way I like it - as a backup player, not a battling soloist. Though tending a little masculine, overall still sweet enough for any bold lady to enjoy as well. It's still not gentle (actually, I'm not sure the word 'gentle' belongs in Mr Lomros's vocabulary, at least not where oud is concerned), but it is most certainly welcoming - it feels as if it's protecting you, like some amazing suit of scented samurai armour, rather than challenging you to a battle of nerves. Lasts absolutely ages (12-18 h at least on skin; days on end on fabric) and the drydown is a thing of true beauty, getting only sweeter and gentler with time. Really very likeable indeed, even for those leery of true-to-life oud. Price is seriously intimidating but arguably "worth it" if you want a serious oud-lovers' oud that is actually wearable for non-aficionados as well.

Stunning champaca/amber/oud! No one does champaca as beautiful as Prin! Sunny, floral, smooth golden amber, with a bit of oud. Mostly in the opening and then in the background. Will try to compare to to some other favorite Prin champaca. Mandarava: Is much more of a animalic floral than this, the same stunning champaca note is even more in center. But also tuberose and civet, missing in Krissana. The amber notes in Mandarava are also lighter and a bit different. Burmite honey: Has much more of the same amber notes, maybe some of that fossil amber are in both? The champaca is not as potent here and the cumin is more amped up. Sarinkarn: While the champaca is very prominent this is more of a rose/oud combo. With a huge smoky note, not present at all in Krissana. The golden ambers are toned down, some cacao added and the oud much more the star of the show. Maybe the closest to Krissana overall, but more edgy, and differnt notes highlighted. I love Krissana, and wearing it today have been golden. But I will not buy a full bottle. The price is simply too high. The other three perfumes listed are equally stunning, all three of them and comes with a more affordable pricetag. Maybe all the different ouds in this makes it expensive to make, but in that case it is a bit sad, for to my nose this is not a "oud" perfume, and those expensive oud oils are fighting to not get drenched in this bowl of fantastic golden champaca amber.

Krissana by Prin is gotta be one of the most beautiful Oud based fragrances out there, it's woody, fruity, a bit sweet and heavy on the flowers, the oud is there pretty much the entire time but there is something weird about this one ( in a good way) I'm getting a deer musk accord in the very late dry down, it's definitely some Siberian musk or could be synthetic no idea and it's not mentioned in the notes but it's there in the very late phase maybe is it from the Jasmine Sambac Absolute? I have no idea. Either way this is a very pretty fragrance and one of the more gentle that is done by Prin, like most of his fragrances you get his DNA here as well which is very very well rounded I must say, it's not trying to be edgy and offensive rather more of the smoother side and no I wouldn't say mass appealing either cause the animalics are there as well. Honestly a very well-made fragrance and it's worth the price tag, massive performance, lasts easily 12+ hrs on my skin. Krissana gets a 9.5 out of 10 and I'm glad I have a bottle 😍🥰

The scent that starts my serious fragrance journey. A blend of oud oils from different regions in Thailand. Incredibly well blended. No barnyard quality to it whatsoever. These oud oil combinations add the incense quality to this fragrance. it is mixed with a heavy Champaca to kind of "break" the fragrance not to be too incense-heavy. On my skin, it dries down to a warm spicy from Clove, all the while maintains the incense quality of Oud. My most favourite fragrance to date.

Such a gorgeous and mesmerizing symphony of ashy wood, leathery florals, and juicy resins. I hate sounding this pretentious but the scent is so evocative. Prin at his peak can move like nobody else, this stuff gives me that rare bliss that only the best oudy fragrances can. It's meditative and nearly edible- must be experienced.

Combine the mustiest wooden drawers with the most effervescent champagne colas and you have Prin's latest oud-centric fragrance, Krissana. Literally meaning "agarwood" in Thai, Krissana boasts oud from every region in Thailand, a feat whose gimmick might be likened to taking home a small bottle of mezcal with you made out of all the different cultivars of agave throughout Mexico. But why didn't Prin try to co-distill all these woods or dive head first into the perfume's concept, making a fragrance that would be composed entirely out of oud, with everything carefully proportioned and balanced perfectly right to show off the namesake ingredient? Apart from this question regarding Prin's vision for his fragrance and the missed opportunity of true olfactory exploration, the divine opening that is Krissana, full of sparkle and depth, is nonetheless one of the best oud openings I've smelled, there's no need to wait for it to "settle down." Even so, hours later, I find that the base unfortunately lacks oomph and is muddied by benzoin and amber, two notes that are too brutish for a fragrance that's trying to highlight an entire country's skill and history of distilling a prized note in perfumery, namely agarwood. How tired it seems that we've grown of traditional rose-oud compositions and yet here is one case where I wish Prin would've treated these ingredients a little more traditionally, amping up the rose, adding more funk to the oud, throwing in some saffron—or gone in an experimental direction, loading up on tons of oud and then adding Thai fruits to create jungle-like pungency with durian, mangosteen, tamarind, and mango. For anyone looking for an upgrade to Saringkarn, Prin's other rose-oud, you've found a replacement if you can afford to pay double the price and are hell-bent to smell as natural as possible. In my mind, Saringkarn still manages to be more daring; its "burnt," snuffed-candle opening and rubbery notes that waft in and out of its floral composition far surpass in delight and intrigue the realistic depth of Krissana.

Overstuffed incensy spicy take on the rose Oud formula from the enfante terrible of modern perfumery. The scent opens with a variety of spices including cumin, clove, black pepper and cinnamon. The floral heart has the rose surrounded by champaca, jasmine, patchouli, myrrh and styrax. The perfume settles on a powdery bed of oud, benzoin, amber and sandalwood. The masculine leaning scent has moderate to strong projection and very good longevity. For adventurous perfume lovers and very expensive. Enjoy!

Why is it that every time I blind test a fragrance that I end up loving, that it's always the expensive stuff. This is damn good, and from the notes I wouldn't even think I'd be into it as usually I'm into stuff way more floral or animalic driven, and yet here we are. A beautiful creation.
