Mandodari

Mandodari’s royal and mythic backstory is decidedly more plot-driven than the evocations that Prin’s odorous adaptation gives off at first spray, filling the nostrils not so much with any sense of context or rising action but with an immediate rush that comes with being in medias res. High, expansive aldehydes and gorgeous white flowers coolly place in relief all the pungency of cumin and coffee that’s mixed with a civet that’s used more judiciously than the perfumer’s newest civet-bomb, Nilubol. Still, the whirlwind of these initial moments are powerful. And while Mandodari surely does “meld the divine with the earthly,” as its ad copy promises, rather than redemption arcs and tragedy, I’m taken to Coleridge’s ending lines of his poem, Kubla Khan: And close your eyes with holy dread, For he on honey-dew hath fed, And drunk the milk of Paradise. My own memories of smoking opium are reignited with this fragrance, and what “the milk of Paradise” might promise to any aficionado of Prin’s work is yet again another opportunity to roll along the waves of pleasure, blissfully huffing a uniquely narcotic offering in Mandodari, which manages to smell both fresh and pungent at the same time—and so utterly sexy. For a fetishist of bandaid ouds, manure-like animalics, and Turkish roses, Mandodari is a delightful departure from the norm, creating a blend of contraries: masculine and feminine, woody and floral, cold and warm, smokey and crisp, stinky and fresh, eastern and western, ad infinitum. That I get to live these dualisms is yet another reason to cherish how this fragrance smells, although I’m increasingly aware that I’m starting to smell more and more like Prin.

Mandorari is a very interesting fragrance. It has for me overall an animalic character but with very pronounced aldehydes which makes It brighter, fresher and gives to It a very soapy vibe. Over this aldehidic-animalic background comes a White flowers bouquet which shine beautiful during most of the time that the perfume lasts. For me It has a very similar vibe to diaghilev by roja dove and It remember me also a bit to kouros by ysl for the way that the animalic notes are treated here. I must say that i havent Heard before about some of the notes It has and this makes the perfume something unexpected and misterious. The performance is good. It has a very good longevity with moderate sillage. Fue yo his deepness and intensity i think is a good option for cold/moderate temperatures and even better for night. In adition It has a very sexy character which make It a bomb for nightout. It is also weareable during the day but probably only in winter/fall. Tropical flowers, but ashy, smoky, and musky in a dirty way. By dirty I mean dirty in every possible way! So wrong yet so right. Among ash, tuberose, frangipani (aka tropical flowers), aldehydes, and smoke I can sense coffee too! Honestly, nothing entertained my olfactory cortex(c) and evoked all sorts of emotions quite like this in a while. This scent is one of those that may not be classed as "work-safe", but you will rush home as soon as you can after a day in the office just to sniff a cap.

Wow! What a beauty! Beautiful white florals with a fizzy amberiness! Definitely reminds me of India! It started off more jasminey and later the champaca comes out more. This one, compared to most of Prin’s stuff I’ve tried thus far at least, is not so animalic on me, but still very exotic due to the flowers. I like this one better than Mandarava, which also had white flowers with fizzy amber, but it was too laundry detergentish for me...whereas this one is not as much.

SO good, truly. Like an old comforting piece of wood that you can spray it’s truly fantastic. Pretty wearable without being too obnoxious. The main notes I get are tobacco, ash, pepper, civet, some sort of lingering sweetness in the back (likely the frangipani or tuberose). Occasion wise - perhaps formal events, cold winter days, pretty versatile (probably not for summer though). I love this so much and will be buying a bottle for sure.

It's beautiful. The florals and aldehydes are balanced by the dark notes of civet and coffee. None of the florals really stick out individually, but together they combine to form a tropical and creamy yellow floral component. The coffee note is wonderfully acidic and deep. The drydown is very classical with its strong, animalic civet.

This one is pretty bonkers. The opening is rough, you have to trust the process but after 5-10 minutes you're left with a crazy, musky, dark, woody, scent that's super unique and interesting. Definitely worth a sample.

Very nice florals with even a slight fruity edge... Prin's signature animalcis are definitely present but also quite rounded and exceptionally well blended Heavily reminds me of bit less fruity, more animalic Diaghilev

Florals, aldehydes, then coffee. Then it collects itself and vibrates pleasantly. Another masterful blend. Very impressive, it starts becoming animalic in the drydown, and very pleasantly so.

What a beautiful fragrance , like its name, the perfume is perfectly like the wife of king ravana, beautiful yet strong fragrance , masterpiece ...

Prin Mandodari When I first sprayed it on my skin it immediately reminded me of Dior Oud Ispahan. After having Mandodari on my skin for more than an hour I think it’s finally unravelled its notes and settled down. On the initial test spray it’s insanely hysterical. A maniac in a fragrance. Initially, I thought nup not for me but now it’s really lovely. VERY VERY unique and complex. The musk is featuring last and is delicate. Having had it on now for five plus hours it has settled into a lovely perfume. The sillage is very weak, though I have this problem with many fragrances because of the tropical climate I live in and today the humidity is high at 70%. To rectify this problem I need to reapply frequently

Reminds me of a bright red glycerin soap bar in my grandmother’s shower. Sharp and biting but very vintage floral. Very strong. Definitely to be worn by a very classy older woman. Edit: I’m wearing this again a year and 4 months later and starting to love it. I don’t think I have it a chance last time before scrubbing. The opening is sharp but the dry down is lovely. It’s giving more incense/hippie but with beautiful florals. It’s spring and I definitely feel like this is a winter frag but I’m still loving it right now.

Deceived a sample. Decent floral, similar to Morah but not quite as good. I own Morah so no need for me to purchase this one. Performance not too great. A daytime scent. Leans a tad feminine.

This has an interesting way of dancing the line between delicate and robust.

An exotic masculine perfume, a little vintage and a little animalic and sweet. The aldeic and alcoholic opening is beautiful from which I take gardenias, cumin frangipani, a quick coffee and plenty of civet. In the bottom it is pulverized between sandalwood, woods and good doses of oak moss. Always sweet. Feminine on the skin and masculine in the wake. Always soft, balanced. Not bad!

The first time I tried it I got sort of a dark, complex floral vibe that I enjoyed. The second time, the cumin and kind of an ashy funk became very prominent on my skin. I'm not loving it. The cumin is too much for me. I don't get much aldehydes. I'm beginning to think my nose is not very sensitive to them.

mopped lavatory still lingering with bile. aldehydic animalic ardency. mucin and spittle staining a handkerchief. claustrophobic from bumpy backseat asphyxia, smoke curling against rolled-up windows. putrid breath wilting once-resilient flowers, shells of their former selves. warmth which warns of impending nausea. emetic rituals behind locked stall doors, bulimic cheeks sapped of color. oily scalp adorned with white ash. where abject filth and cleanliness meet. at first, nothing but civet, heavy and warm. then, stark-white aldehydes. the tuberose and frangipani are far from manifesting as sweet, only providing a subtle butteriness beside a sour filth accord alongside the bleached aldehydes, civet, moldy oakmoss, and oily cumin notes. public bathroom party time. projected very strong on my skin for an entire day, making my head throb a bit. i felt sickened by how much it smelled like a grimy public bathroom caked in bleaching powder and unwashed animals, but still found myself leaning in to be taken by the smell repeatedly regardless. i am repulsed, but so fascinated by the depth. impenetrable smog.

An arresting composition for which the words "linear fragrance" may as well be Greek (or Thai). An initial salvo of sunny aldehydes greet the wearer like a shot across the bow. These retreat about fifteen minutes in. Then arrive a stupor of narcotic florals accented heavily, but never overwhelmingly, with civet (urine) and cumin (sweat). The core of this fragrance is heady, floral, and animalic. In Mandodari's final act, the composition takes another sharp turn, lending itself to warm ash, mellow sandalwood, and coffee. Assertive performance and great longevity. Both masculine and feminine. An excellent achievement from one of independent perfumery's rising stars. (AOUD below me said it best)

Stopped in my tracks!!! I ordered the sample set of Prin’s collection specifically to sample Mriga, but of the four fragrances in the set, Mandodari takes the cake! This is an incredibly well balanced floral with some spicy/gourmand notes, though I’d be pressed to call it a gourmand perfume. Aldehydes clear the playing field for tuberose and champaca and heady, heady opium. A bit incense-y, sweet, and narcotic. This is the kind of fragrance to pique the interest of anyone who’s lucky enough to wander into the wake of this perfume; it’s both surprising and familiar, delicate, and a touch challenging. Exquisite!

what a refreshingly unique scent this is! revolutionary, even! you have the 'laundry detergent' element from the aldehydes, the stank from the civet and buoyant, floral element from the champaca, and together, as one this really works. i've smelt something similar from january scent project, i can't remember exactly what, though, i do prefer that one over this one. having said ALL of that, it is not my kinda thing, BUT, i heartily recommend this, least of all for a try.
