Nocturnal Poetry

As we all know, fragrances react to our skin differently...we might experience a totally different scent journey after all and that's totally fine! Nocturnal Poetry is easily THE MOST animalic creations from the house of Prin by Prin Lomros. I saw someone suggested Aranyaka/Aran in the 'reminds me of' section and I would certainly agree, but just for the opening minutes of this fragrance. After 15-30 minutes or so this beast takes another direction of its own and turns into an extremely leathery, moderately floral (champaca is prominent here) and ever so slightly aromatic spicy fragrance on my skin. All the animalic notes (oud included) are present and detectable right off the bat. But it is as if they are all chained and buried in a cage, flooded with flowers and spices...waiting to only be unleashed for the grand opening later on. After 3-4 hours or so, this beast finally reveals its actual self...a very dense and wild animalic scent full of exotic vibes and nuances. What I get at this stage of the journey is the vibe of Dzing/vintage Kouros/vintahe Antaeus on crack. Nocturnal Poetry is simply much stronger and much more animalic compared to those three. **full disclosure I am a fan of animalic fragrances** As further it goes, you start to get a dry pee-like and ambery vibe (in a good warm and cozy way). Hyraceum is the main star of the show at this stage. When combined with civet and castoreum, it is just marvelous...very unique and sophisticated. It’s like all these animalics are amped up beyond their full power. It’s such a ride... This thing lasts 24 hours on my skin. I am not kidding. Prin's works last a very long time on your skin. If you couldn't smell it, it's probably because of an olfactory fatigue. Full bottle-worthy for the fans of animalic fragrances!

Arrhythmic and lavish notes imbricate one upon another like a compost bin whose humus is dependent on visits from the civet cat, beaver, and hyrax venturing out from their dens at various times of the night, shrouded by the safety of darkness. Prin's Nocturnal Poetry even in 2025 holds its ground as being the most animalic of the Thai perfumer's fragrances, particularly due to the almost golden backbone of animal hide that seems to originate from a more restrained selection of complementary ingredients that predate the "kitchen-sink" approach of later compositions. Plotted between an axis of dried buttermilk ("jameed" in Arabic, quintessential to the dish mansef) and another of used undergarments, Nocturnal Poetry nonetheless manages to evade any sense of fixed coordinates with its flowers, coffee, and beeswax that sweeten and pretty things up in an expressive but still aesthetically uncanny way that is not unlike a Francis Bacon painting, say "Head VI." Prin has said this fragrance evokes surrealism and non-narrative poetry and while I agree with the "non-narrative poetry" part I'd actually argue that Nocturnal Poetry doesn't necessarily evoke the landscapes of unconscious objects—the "chance meeting on a dissecting table of a sewing machine and an umbrella"—that's ubiquitous in surrealist painting and poetry. Just look up above at the list of notes for this fragrance and you'll notice that nothing is out of place. Whenever Prin works in such a radically closed way, his artistry is at its most inventive.

Very nice! It opens with a very good balance between the different scent families...I could pick out jasmine, green hints, a good dose of animalic underneath, and a kind of chocolatey leather non-gourmand sweetness underneath. The overall smell reminds me of walking around Little India, Singapore where lots of sidewalk shops sell jasmine garlands, Indian herbs and produce, and incense was burning (I’ve been to India itself as well, but this smell reminds me specifically of Little India because all of those smells are more concentrated in those few blocks in Singapore). Later an apricotish smell comes forward (the champaca I assume). Later I can detect a little oud. There’s also a very nice tobacco in there. The animalics are always present but in good supporting roles only. Update: most of the above is moreso the smell when one sniffs their skin up close. I wore it again in a way that presented me the smell of it in the air more and it was different. It smelled quite similar to Homa actually, minus the goat smell. So kind of a nice citrus and overall non-sweet vibe over nice leathery animalics. Prin Lomros makes good stuff!

Oh boy, oh boy, where do i start ? I'm one of those lucky ones to own a full bottle of this I blind bought it, and it was one of my best descions that I did in my life. This stuff is animalic to the maximum level it can't get more animalic than this. Not only animalic, it is also smookyyy and beneth all of it, the smell of the beautiful Jasmine comes through with the beeswax adding sweetness to it. the smoke reminds me of Thailand/Vietnam for some reasons, and I have never been there. lol maybe it is the Prin DNA ? No idea It is very very very Vintagy as well and the quality of this fragrance is something else pure stuff Not only Vintagy it is really really edgy, gothic, dark, weird a scent for outcasts, very hardcore . Be aware that this stuff is very strong and not mass appealing at all, but it is super unique I would say it I'd more challenging than Zoologist Hyrax but now I own both ! 😎 The Performance is just amazing as well. As an animalic scent lover this was my holy grail Nocturnal Poetry from Prin gets a 10/10.

When I first experienced Nocturnal Poetry, a holy grail light went off in my brain. For me, it wears like a dark, floral, almost barber shop fragrance (depending on the day I notice this more or less than other days) underneath a deep, somewhat unsettling cloak of shadowy animalics. There’s nothing barnyard or discordant: just smooth, luxurious, rich, round deep animalic notes woven with leathery resins and a luxurious tobacco and coffee accord wrapped around the aromatic florals, with an unmistakeable pinch of cumin. And I do think this perfume paints the picture of a quietly dark, still night with something unknown lurking, a sensation, waking up after a bad dream. It’s fantastic if you smell it with Prin’s website description in mind. I think this and many of Prin Lomros’ compositions are true works of brilliance (genius). Some of his perfumes have opened my eyes and nose and mind to scent experiences I couldn’t have begun to imagine prior.

Almost all of Prin's scents try to entice and provoke. This one, however has this as a primary goal rather than a part of a whole. It is far more of animalic than some (if not many) might think comes on too strong. I feel like I can pick out the majority of the notres as it unfolds. As always the note list is long and yet each is there. How Prin does this is a mystery. Many might want this to be a night animal that growls and if that is what you are looking for you will find it here. But it is far more subtle and complex than most animalic aphrodisiacs. It's classy, but in a no holds barred kind of way. This may be a scent for those who love wearing something risque and yet anything but dirty. Full bottle worthy.

Incredible! I've never smelled anything like this. It starts out with a blast of animalics, but over the next 30 minutes or so it morphs into an absolutely gorgeous leathery jasmine with tobacco, incense, and oud in the background. I say jasmine because that's what sticks out to me the most, but the other floral elements (champaca at least) are occasionally noticeable too. It's pretty complex, and maybe because of this it took a few wears to fully appreciate. I love it now though - it's perfect for the spring. Spectacular performance with a few sprays.

I just wore this today and was astounded at how truly animalic yet smooth and wearable it is. Uncompromisingly bestial, while still brilliant blended; deprived of sharp, unpleasant edges; and achingly primal, this scent is my favorite animalic fragrance. It's unisex and evolves wonderfully on the skin. As with most fragrances in this genre, give it time to settle before judging it.

I received this as a small sample after buying a bottle of Saringkarn. For something with so many animal notes, this is a beautiful fragrance and not what I expected. It's powerful as I expected but sweet and softened by the honey and Jasmine. Overall, it comes off as a Regal and upscale scent, perfect for a night time special event, and unisex with big sillage.

This starts off animalic, but that doesn't last too much and you are greeted by the most sweet and heady mediteranean jasmine at night. Smoke and a little sweatiness follow. It conveys an image of a mademoiselle singing old tunes in a nightclub at 3 am, her perfume,sweat and smoke fill up the air, all the scents of the night, pure and dirty are there.

Yup, this is great. Best of the new collection and gets better everytime you smell it. A huge castoreum/hyrax floral leather with so much going on and an interesting accord up top that reminds me of Dzing by L’artisan: flowers, cardboard, varnish and leather. Really great. Full Bottle Worthy and my pick for future classic from this collection.

Finally got a full bottle of this and am still in love. The jasmine helps keep the animalics in check before the other florals appears. This name is extremely fitting, it smells like it is made for a night time outing or romantic get together. Sillage and longevity are both very high. A gorgeous scent that is easy to wear.

Yet another fantastic creation from Prin Lomros, my favorite from his new collection. Animalic, floral leathery creation for experienced noses .... Beautifully Brutal Concoction...

Best piss I ever smelled in my life <3

Deepest, darkest, sweetest, strangest tropical floral imaginable - a bewitching yet slightly terrifying pad through a pitch-black jungle, smelling traces of exotic beasts and hardwood bark & sap in the truffly soil, as a thick fog of waxy, heady, dizzy blooms puffs out their most pheromone-heavy messages into the night. My goodness, it fulfills the brief. All the complexity and challenge you could ever expect from a Prin, but with such a huge dose of honey, beeswax and floral sweetness that the animalic twinges are pretty far in the background for a Lomros product. Far more floral than feral, without anything bitter or sour from oud / civet / castoreum / coffee - they enrich and round things out, rather than dirty it up - and the spicing far less agrestic or camphoreous (? is this even a word?) here than in his more out-there adventures. It could almost be called 'femme and wearable', if it weren't for the usual pile-on of real complexity - a thick, rich, brilliantly overdone texture, something like a smell equivalent of the encrusted globs and crannies and spatters of oil paint in a deep-dark-shadowy Rembrandt. Masterpiece territory really - only those with true skills would be willing to pile it on this boldly, and still make any kind of sense. But it really does. It's a proper night-drive safari, all right - an absolute thriller. Definitely not for the nervous first-timer and unsuitable for blind buying in any universe - but genuinely rather amazing stuff. As mentioned by others, would be a great entry point for those beginning to dip their toes in Mr Lomros's wild, wild world - it is as close as his label gets to 'accessible'. As I personally prefer things a very little less honeyed, and rather like the other ones with a bit more spice, this isn't a personal Top 5 from Prin for me, but would definitely make a Top 10 list from the house. More than worth the dare for those whose happy place is a humid floral hothouse with a regular cast of snuffling, rootling, visiting creatures who drop in during the dark hours. Wholly impressive.

I have tried a handful of Prin’s work in-store before, but Nocturnal Poetry is my first experience with his house on skin. There’s so much going on in this wondrously complex scent that it’s hard to unpack, it’s like a dazzling cacophony of animal musks, spices, and flowers. Cumin is most prominent to my nose, so powerful it’s like stuffing your nose in a jar of the stuff - made even more piercing with the urinous facet of civet screaming in your face. A soft leathery sweetness through beeswax emerges soon after, elevated and given a much needed delicate brightness by way of jasmine, violet leaf and rose. Despite the busy nature of this scent, cumin prevails above all else which makes it rather polarising. I quite enjoy it to be honest - it’s not something I would own because I simply wouldn’t wear it day to day, for it doesn’t match my personal tastes. But as an artistic creation, it’s fabulous, a scent so rugged and unique it truly makes you feel something, which is rare these days.

Thoughts of a sampling... * It is definitely not the typical "in your face" animalic. * In other words you won't get punched in the face but you will definitely be flogged. * As has been said, the Jasmin compliments the scent very well. * However I believe it also weakens the animalic sillage portion in the long run. * As the Jasmin fades a musk from the Violet leaves begins to take over. * And finally several hours latter at the very end a sweetness from the Beeswax to finish it off. * All the while the animal scent hums along. * This is a superb blend as it takes you on an interesting journey. * It lasts for ever but the sillage drastically weakens after an hour or so. ** Final thoughts... It is a rare occasion when I can read a dozen or so reviews down the page and find I totally agree with everyone. Congratulations we are all on the same page for once. Looks like Prin reached his objective. Quite a difficult feat.

Interesting leathery Floriental from this enfante terrible of niche perfumery. The perfume opens briefly with notes of coffee, violet leaves and turmeric before going to a floral heart of jasmine, rose and champaca flowers. The perfume soon settles into a dense musky powdery base of myrrh, hyrax, castoreum (very strong) and synthetic musk. The bold unisex perfume has strong sillage and enormous projection and longevity. Recommended for those into bold florals and unique exotic animalic scents. This is edgy, eccentric and bold perfumery that does not care about market potential. Enjoy!

This is nice, and a pleasant surprise. Quite strong for a the first 30 minutes, so much so that I was teetering on disliking it and wanting to wash it off, especially as it comes across as extremely masculine. But it begins to settle down and the projection chills out, and it evolves into this warm blanket of fuzzy comfort. A light white floral, a little sweetness, it amplifies the skin and creates a slightly spicy skin scent. It's lovely. 7/10

I love every aspect of this perfume except it kinda smells like vagina after 8 hours

I personally detest reviews where they compare one perfume with others (who cares? who is even familiar with your benchmarking selection?! - that's informative to you only!). However, I need to excuse myself in this case and mention that Prin belongs to one cohort with Sultan Pasha and Russian Adam, all of them being insane fanatics on hunt for animalistic natural scents. Nocturnal Animal is a scent of an elite Arab horse in Dubai stables. The animal is sweaty after the race, and has just been served a portion of hay, while the wind from the open window brings a whiff of jasmine flowers with the sultry desert air. Daily costs here exceed an avarage monthly salary of any Dubai clerk, but if you ever catch a similar fragrance from a clerk - be sure he has just secretly engaged into a million-dollar hustle.

Well I now feel I can write a review of this. I managed to leave it on long enough that I could appreciate some of the artistry that went in to it's creation. Initially I was appalled. Why would someone make a perfume that smelled like a butthole that had been sitting in an ashtray. The animalic aromas overwhelmed everything. I scrubbed it. I tried again, with a more discreet spray on one wrist only. Later I was catching whiffs of something intriguing and rather pleasant, albeit still very smoky. Thankfully no longer attar de butt. I will use the sample I have, but I don't see a full bottle purchase anytime soon.

Nocturnal Poetry starts out floral with animalics. My first thought was it's rather feminine. As it dried down though, the florals pulled back significantly and it became more of a dirty/resin-y type of fragrance. The slider adjusted from feminine to unisex as it dried down. Animalics here are not overly strong. Longevity is quite good - I got about 10 hours out of it and it was still a noticeable skin scent. Projection is more moderate. Scent would be a gentle intro if you want to dip your toes in Prin Perfumes. A bit too tame for me though.

Rereview, 8 months later: A sour beautifully rotten and indolic jasmine opening with supporting aromatics and mild smokiness, all on a base of very thick dry beeswax that gradually goes away. As it dries down, only the strong animalics survive, having a wonderful fecal warmth that stays calm near the base, with a smoothness from its musky quality. Weirdly fitting scent for its name now that I think about it. This gets very fecal in all the best qualities, without any of the bitterness or being overly pissy. I appreciate the use of the beeswax instead of resins here only because it goes away faster, so I can actually enjoy the animalics rather than the wet resins. The fecal nature of it reminds me of cats, but not just in their feces, but weirdly also their puke, yet I don't get any of the unpleasant sides of that for some reason. The only perfume that I love but rarely expect to spray, it's just very intense and unwearable, but I find it fun to spray on some plushies if I don't feel like smelling like ass. Probably the perfect entry point for someone wishing to explore Prin's work, animalic, slightly indolic, crafted with high quality ingredients. On application, the civet and castoreum (both synthetic) leap up off the skin but they still feel slightly held back by the florals (jasmine and champaca). This extreme animalic phase ends fairly quickly as the turmeric, beeswax, oud and hay sort of restrain the animalic portion of the fragrance. For cat owners, if you've ever lifted up your cat and were shocked by them smelling good - this is sort of like that? If your cat was extremely musky and had just returned home from running through a fragrant garden filled with jasmine, champaca, and perhaps walking through a trough of sun-drying coffee beans - I could imagine it smelling like this. A beautiful, animalic, floral, musky perfume that is 100% worthy of a sample at least. I just wish that Prin had used genuine Civet and Castoreum. 8/10

Opens up with a strong musty jasmine, reminiscent of filthy yet not sweaty body odour, that grows more pleasant and musky as it dries down, has a subtle sweet beeswax in the back. While I don't see myself wearing this like most powerful animalics, I appreciate how it uses a unique sort of animalic scent as opposed to the current trend of boring fecal civetone in everything. Simply put this is a pleasant combo of musks. Is other stuff going on sure but its all just in the background. It would be recognized as animalic by even a layman yet I think its about as unoffensive as musk scents come. If you were going to dip your toe into the Prin / Prissina world, I would recommend you start here. If your not put off venture deeper into the collections.

I think this is dead center unisex. There’s a slight sweetness to it that makes it ok for females so ladies if your on the fence and like animalics I’d go for it. It’s lightly animalic in my opinion, leathery but not too much and boozy sweet. Similar to Paloma Picasso but that has more castoreum.

Wow! voluptous, narcotic, animalic. Very old school fragrance. To me it smells a little like taking Chanel no. 5 parfum, and making it more animalic and sultry.
