Saringkarn (ศฤงคาร)

The chameleonic delights of Prin Lomros's artistry are on magnificent but somewhat conservative display with Saringkarn, his indomitable take on the now oft-maligned rose-oud genre. If you thought that you didn't need another rose-oud to add to your collection, Saringkarn might make you reconsider things. The popular fragrance uses smoke, animalics, chocolate, and supporting florals to tweak the genre in a way that evokes incense and musk as much as wood (oud) and rose. I'm of like mind as some below: Saringkarn is perhaps the closest approximation to Middle Eastern bakhoor. It smells remarkably oudy thanks to its rubbery and sugary facets that hint at aroma-chemicals while being shrouded in fruity, resinous smoke. The whole experience veers from smelling like high-class powdery makeup to slightly urinous body odor to dusted, chocolate covered raisins and then back and forth again. Whereas some of Prin's more pricey and experimental works teeter on having one too many ingredients and/or embrace the chaos of working with naturals, animalics included, Saringkarn is a formal endeavor, taking inspiration from Thai poetry and a religious-ritualistic-traditional adherence to classic poetics, which suggests that the rose-oud genre still has plenty to proclaim in its old and beloved form.

Thoughts of a sampling... * This is one of the better Ouds. * Immediately starts out with Rose and some of that fermentation associated with it. * Of course the Oud is front and center. And may or may not own some of that fermentation. * Shortly after I notice the sweetness of a ripened Plum. * After a while it all begins to settle. * Then I sense what seems to most likely be Champaca. * Followed by a mellow Chocolate. * And then a smoky Tobacco. * Finally getting a little amberish at the end. * The blending seems a little strange. * That being said, I have tried this over a half dozen times and the results are not at all consistent. This has been puzzling on a couple of levels. * Lasts a good long time as I get occasional whiffs through out the day. But not consistently, as I can get anywhere from 5 to 10 hours from it. * Sillage stays more personal and can sometimes lean more toward intimate. * At any random moment some of the secondary notes can decide to play hooky. Very strange. ** Final thought... I will continue to try this as I decide whether I can get past its inconsistencies to be ready, willing and able to dish out the nominal fee for a full bottle. *** Finally received my bottle as this scent is just to good to pass on. I am very pleased.

Opens with a sweet blast of rose and chocolate, touched by a medicinal edge and a slight camphorous sheen. It's beautiful and carries a somewhat easygoing glow, suggesting a gourmand direction without ever crossing that threshold. After 30 minutes, the cocoa effect dissipates slightly, leaving room for the oud and smoke to fill the vacuum. At this point, it is essentially the perfect Thai oud scent. The champaca and ylang smooth the entire bouquet with a subtle, narcotic melody. Much further into the drydown, the chypre backbone steps into the spotlight: oakmoss and animalics (likely castoreum) create a divine, leathered accord. At every stage, the rose shifts from jammy to airy depending on its mood. I have yet to smell a dark Prin scent I don't love, but this one is especially clever. Under the guise of an accessible, almost designer rose-oud facade, he hid a complex, layered powerhouse. It has very slight fermented and animalic facets, but they remain subdued and coherent. It's a balance that is difficult to hit alongside such sweetness without creating a rotting accord. At no point does it veer into anything self-indulgent or deliberately shocking. A masterpiece, easily the best I've smelled from Prin.

This fragrances contains so many notes that it is a journey through perfumery with top ingredients that unfold and mix and then becomes something stellar that is greater than all those parts. I do not find silage all that strong, but it is fine for what I am looking for. I can smell the oud in a way that stands out among all but a few of the ouds I have ever tried. It's playfully serious and seriously playful. It isn't like any scents I know of created in the US or Europe. It does have the DNA of a few of Prin's other scents, which to me is always a great thing as he is one of the most innovative Noses working in the field -- so far as I am concerned. You will not smell like those who want to show off THE next big thing-another mark in its favor. It lets you stand apart while keeping others guessing just what notes are floating in the air. I am going to enjoy each wearing as it it will take quite some time to enjoy the full symphony of notes.

This is just the 2nd fragrance that I try from Prin and I am just so impressed. The opening has a tiny bit of animalic which may come from the oud but it's mixed with the rose in such a way that it ends up smelling quite sweet. As the fragrance dried down I started to notice the champaca and the dark chocolate which mixed with the initial sweetness just made this even more delicious. I expected an already seen before rose oud combo but this has such a special feel to it. This is such a beautiful small gem in a sea of fragrances in the same vein. On me this lasts and lasts which makes sense since this is an extrait with a really high % of oil. The projection is also decent and I can still notice it from time to time after 9-10 hours. When I finish my sample I'll be surely purchasing a full bottle of this beauty. Thanks a lot Prin Lomros for creating such delightful fragrances I can't wait to keep exploring all these other little art pieces!

Wow, this is gorgeous. A wonderful dirty rose oud scent that is unisex. Oud and rose are the main players but there's great support from flowers, chocolate, smoke/incense, all blended very well. At the start, there's a definite animalic touch but it's not anything too heavy and it does fade, allowing some of the lighter notes to poke through. This reminds me a lot of Penhaligon's The Uncompromising Sohan. They're both oud rose scents but while Sohan stays very dark and very male to my nose, Saringkarn dries to be a bit softer and more unisex. I will say this is extremely potent, one spray should be all you need for this so even though it's 30ml, it will still last. Overall, this is very good. Perfect for a special occasion or date night scent IMO.

The second buy from this house and it's a winner! Great oud fragrance, I won't bother describing the scent, I think this one is extremely subjective, I find it divine, my SO finds it repulsive, so sample if you can, I got mine from ecuacionnatural (Spain) and they offer free samples. If you dipped your toes in higher end ouds you'll probably like this. I would say it's a step up in terms of quality from bortnikoff. What I will talk about is the performance, this little beast has room filling projection in the first hour, it settles afterwords but in the begging it is loud. I'm not sure about batch variations but the one I have has stupid levels of projection in the opening. Worth the price tag for me.

Very nice! The opening smells exotic-fruity to me (the florals and prune/plum there?) and I also smell maybe some rose and itty-bitty saffron with that. Then, after some moments of swearing I smelled coriander seed in there too, it gets beautifully exotic floral. Underneath all that is a slight hint of cocoa blended with leather, oud, etc, but nothing challenging here. Kind of a light, playful, airy/watery vibe mostly. I also smell something like black tea leaves or davana, and a teensy weensy metallic touch from the flowers I guess. Hours later, it dries down to a powdery musk amber smell.

Beautiful oud-rose dominant scent. The opening brings memories of the animalic facets in Absolue Pour Le Soir, but certainly nothing like it. This is beautifully made complex with fruit and floral notes (many as you may find the in the breakdown above!), with a light coarseness brought by the tobacco. Can't really detect the chocolate in the opening, it could be providing that hint of warmth and sweetness beneath the whole scent bubble. I am glad to have obtained a bottle of Saringkarn and I look forward to wearing it more often in the years to come.

What's special about this is the way Prin blended it. There is no clear top, middle or base notes. When experiencing this beautiful creation while looking at the notes, you can pick up the notes one by one and yet they are infused together like an orchesta playing in complete harmony. Such a wonderful perfume! It's little bit animalic but so wearble even in the office when you control the number of sprays or spritz at your collar bones under the shirt. Wafts of it going on hours and hours.. heavenly

What an absolute beast. I was given a travel size as a gift and when I tell you it fills the room, if not your entire house. I'm curious if all of their perfumes are this strong. Yet for being this strong I'm not offended by it. I think having Zoologist years ago has prepped my senses for these kinds of notes. I think a decade ago I wouldn't have caught anything but oud and smoke. The floral on this is quite pleasant.

This is a Love. It is like when you search and search and finally found what you are looking for. It is a dense and complex fragrance with notes ranging from florals such as rose and champaca to fruity plum to leather and tobacco and woods and oakmoss. Everything blended to perfection. It is also long-lasting and easy to wear even with oud since it is blended in balanced way.

A magnificent rose-oud-chocolate mixture; with a super skillful blending. To me, this is far better than every oud-rose combination I've ever smelled (around 20+). Also better than Roja amber aoud absolue precieux which insanely cost almost 8 times more expensive compared to Saringkarn. Careful with this beast, this already stained my white shirt and it can’t be washed!!!

A mix of pure bliss. Had a random girl stalk me at the bar and tell me she wanted to eat my arm off. Dark chocolate, rose, champaca & oud dominate the fragrance and last to the base. Tried many from Prin, Pryn, Prissana, & this is the only that had me smitten enough to purchase a full bottle. Divine.

The smoke in this is to my nose exactly the same as the lapsang tea in pineward treacle. But the rest is so much more complex and wearable. The oud is so beautiful and along with the smoke and the florals the main player.

I've found another Prin gem with Saringkarn. It'd be easy to brush it off as just another rose/oud but that's not the case. It's quite enjoyable (except the opening) to experience it as changes occur throughout its life. The opening for me was a bit too sweet and floral. The sweetness was the first to reduce, putting it more in line with my likes. It then turned into a not very pleasant floral/plastic-y scent. That aspect also went away and the generic floral scent reduced into a mild, creamy rose as the oud appeared. Oud was dominant here with the rose more subdued. Also, the oud never had a stinky barnyard smell; only the nice oud/woody scent. The creaminess of the rose also seemed to have a little more, but I'm not exactly sure what. It might have been the chocolate. The weird thing is after about 3 hours (I think; didn't time it exactly) the chocolate became more prominent and very obvious, even to the point of overpowering the rose. The chocolate then started to reduce in strength but it was still an obvious part of the rose at this point, however oud always remained dominant. Finally, as the overall fragrance started to weaken after some hours, the scent became again a somewhat generic floral scent to me with the oud evolving more into a smooth, generic woody fragrance. Sorry about the long winded description. It's just that Saringkarn made an impression on me with this journey. Performance was very good, lasting a good 12 hours. Next morning before showering, the fragrance was reactivated during morning cardio. Projection quite good for about 2 to 3 hours. TL;DR - a Prin winner for sure.

More floral than Oudh Infini (Dusita), less spicy than Oud for love (the different company), Saringkarn is the most wearable rose-oud scent on my skin. Oud is a bit in-your-face in the beginning. It turns smoother as rose and champaca come out, together with dark chocolate and beeswax, they give a subtle yet complex fruity-sweet sensation. Gorgeous creation. A rich liquid which I think my 1 ml sample will last me a couple of good uses.

A nice sweet scent based on flowers-beeswax, with a nice balsamic opening, medicinal, full of saffron, sweet plum, roses, juicy flowers that dry over time among oud, musk and smoky incense sticks. Caloric sweet, and soft, fluffy, powdery thick and warm in the long finish. On my skin I get a languid, dense floral leather and the smoky trail I get is subtle, yet still sweet and laden with beeswax. A well made oriental dessert.

I see some votes associating this to sweet rosy fragrances, but this is not that—to me it doesn't even leave a strong "floral oud" impression past the obvious opening. It has dry smoky incensy leathery facets along with some bitterness & fruitiness. It is a good and reasonably priced fragrance among the artisanal oud circle, but not a masterpiece.

Nice oud, rose and dried fruits. But very animalic as in smells like hot urine at times.

A dense gorgeous smoky Floriental Chypre showcasing the beauty of Thailand this is a signature Prin Lomros style scent suffused with so many notes that one just loses track. The perfume opens with notes of saffron, plum, tobacco, incense, slight chocolate, beeswax and fir. The brief floral heart has champaca, ylang and rose. The perfume quickly settles into a very dense base of oakmoss, ambrette, Thai Oud, animal musk, and leathery notes. Very typical of the perfumers dense ‘kitchen sink’ style but nevertheless radiant and beautiful. The unisex scent has strong projection and excellent longevity. Recommended for lovers of bold Orientals and dense animalic chypres. Enjoy!

At this point my nose is ready for more challenging things & I’ve been thinkin Prin is an another good brand to look into. But this doesn’t do anything for me. I don’t mind rose ouds, I don’t mind animalistic touches either, This though just ends up reminding me despite all these notes shown to just be a clean yet sorta sour Noir De Noir minus the chocolate! “Hell” Minus a lot of those notes listed! I have worn my Noir De Noir in the past when I didn’t realize how hot it would get later And the dark chocolate nuances leave my skin after 7 or 8 hours & my skin in left with a rosy perfume smell that I personally can’t stand!... & with notes & blend talk aside, When dumbing down this fragrance I’m afraid it would just remind someone of cheap woman’s perfume with rose soap. Even with the animalics or Supposedly oud used, This just smells of a clean & soapy rose further into the dry down of 2 hours. I must say it’s a bit boring.. I have wanted to like this house and while I realize I have only scratched the surface of this brand alot of them in the end so far are seeming similar even with the tons of notes listed. I will continue to try before speaking to much more about this house too soon...Although this one is an easy pass.

This is one of the better Prin scents. Fans of Amber Oud will find alot to love here. My first impressions are that this is immediately full bottle worthy. It has a different feel than what we’re used to with Prin as in there is no earthy, animalic incense notes but instead you get velvety smooth, musky rose with chewy tobacco, dark chocolate and Oud. It feels decadent and smooth while being ultra rich and dense. The spices are warm and vibrant and I can sense some cumin and saffron cresting a wonderful glow. This whole composition feels warm, comforting and oddly wearable. Easily one of the best Rose compositions I’ve smelled in a long time.

This is some good stuff. I love when prin veers away from his typical earthy dna (aksum, homa, aranyaka, mugarat, ayothaya, haxan, and several others that are all basically the same). He has the ability to create truly gorgeous scents unlike any out there. Like turkish leather and morah. This is like the path he took with those two beauties. Easily the best from the new line. Its incredible. Sweet, floral, slightly animalic. Wonderful. Dont bother with the sample set for $64 for 5 samples. The rest arent worth your time if you have smelled a bunch of prin already. Just blind buy this joint.

.A sultry rose amongst a plump juicy plum how naughty, rich seductive sweetness amongst soft plumes of incense smoke wafting in from behind silk curtains. ...Moving forward rose mingles with champaca and I begin to pick up hints of a spiced Tabac and ambrette-driven muskiness nothing animalic to me personally but that depends on the individual there's an encompassing dark chocolate note in here it's not too sweet and has a hint of cherry to it but maybe that's just me.

what a beauty! so impressed. hands down my favourite Prin. smokey and textured roseoud that balances between the most tender rose petals one can imagine and rough brutal thai oud. although it feels very modern, i see lots of vintage nuances but in a very, very stylish way. i get lots of pine, saffron and smoky plum, some incense whiffs from time to time..very complex and so masterfully blended

A well-blended simple smoky authentic oud that overpowers a still present rose. This is the first "oud" fragrance I've tried that smells like the actual bakhoor (burnt oud chips) we use in the middle east. I do wish the rose was stronger so that it has more depth. Sadly contains the overpowering resins found in most of Prin's perfumes. Good performance

(Skip if too gross of a description, but swear to God, this on me is a humid, marshy outdoor public restroom sprayed down with air freshener/cleaning products. ☹️ Different body chemistries obviously will have different luck.)

Wow this is good! So rich and fruity, floral and woody with a touch of smoke which I usually can’t stand but here it’s done right and just adds to the depth of this fragrance. Full bottle worthy!
