Haxan

Wow! This is my first Prin Lomros fragrance and it wont be my last. (Review here is first impressions from a sample I let rest for a month then atomized.) First spray--it's a blast of bright lichen green (Costus?) intertwined with white fireplace smoke. Haxan is not sharp -- I'm surprised! There's a sweetness here that is soft--maybe it's Jasmine or Laudanum? Or maybe Comarin is the sweetness? It's lovely. Haxan isn't a person. Haxan is untamed Nature. But this is nature that's welcoming and inviting--there's no danger here or dark woods. The experience of Haxan is extremely complex. As I am writing this review, I can't keep up with how quickly it is shifting and developing around me. Haxan is delightful and playful. Impish even--once you've got a hold of it Haxan shifts form. First--Wormwood comes through strong for my nose (one of the ingredients of Absinthe, if you're familiar). Tobacco. Chamomile. Marjoram. I can smell these all at the forefront. About 5 minutes in I'm getting the Cypriot oil coming to the forefront. The white smoke is gone now. Instead the different trees are peaking through--Pine, Balsam, Spruce. It's like I'm walking through a forest and the wind keeps changing direction. Actually--speaking of wind--there's a physical cooling sensation when breathing in Haxan. My guess is that this is the Balsam fir! Or maybe more accurately the camphor notes? About 10 minutes in -- I can smell the animalic notes. It's not barnyard. It's the smell of fresh bedding and a well brushed out coat. This is absolutely a goat but it's the fanciest and cleanest goat I've ever had the pleasure to meet. The dry down is coming in more with toned downed animalic notes with violet leaf. It's not too powdery -- it's a soft and inviting embrace. What a trip! Even at this first pass, I can tell I want a full bottle of Haxan. So many witch-branded perfumes rely too heavily on "hippie" notes in my opinion (ie. patchouli overdose). Haxan actually does smell like VVitch VVoods and not like your local thrift store. :) Bonus: My male partner sniffed me and said, "Wow, I like that!" He said he couldn't tell what the notes were but that I smelled "great" and "familiar and comforting." (Actually, my partner's reaction was wayyy more positive to Haxan than Tihota or BR450--go figure!) I'll take it as a win. Do not blind buy this bottle. Get a sample first and atomize it.

Haxan is another masterpiece by the perfumiers’ perfumer Rajjesh Balrishnan. I would encourage anyone who wants a fragrantory experience of taking of a walk in woods that are “Lovely, dark, and deep” (Robert Frost's famous line) to get a hold of a sample or full bottle before it sells out again. The lavender note is strong during the opening but it’s the cedar, fir, and birch that reach out their needles and bark to envelop us. I thought of the 3 Witches in Macbeth who create a mysterious brew and also foretell the fates that will unfold. There are so many notes here (a “must have” for any of Rajesh’s creations) that only those with exceptional noses will be able to truly smell them all. Nevertheless, just reading the notes helps me search my olfactory memories and in so doing I can slowly recognize some than the most powerful ones. Maybe some day I will be able to identify most. I like the description of this scent as “ebbing and flowing, light and dark shape shifter”. I am reminded a bit of House of Matriarch’s Bonsai with its powerful fir opening. Haxan has many more notes and much greater longevity. It also evolves beautifully over the hours. I am enjoying Haxin as a superior summer scent. It can be described as fougere summer scent; it is a universe apart from the popular beachy or citrusy scents that many turn to in the heat. And it stands apart from most other. well-regarded natural summer scents too. The strong opening is bracing, but it turns much more gourmandy about 3 hours in. There sorcery comes much the way alembics were meant to turn base metals into gold. What I mean is as the fragrance goes through its notes it becomes deeper, darker, and full. I have rarely smelled any fragrances that so utterly transforms itself throughout its journey. At one point the scent quiets down from the tree scent and then a while later it comers on strong again but with a vastly different set of notes. The quality of the ingredients makes this witchcraft possible, but Rajesh is the only I one I know who can do so well. Rajesh’s fragrances are often at the high end of the price scale. Haxan is reasonably priced and still a scent that rises to very lofty heights and down into the mossy ground with the trees forming the conduit for this long-lasting and beautifully metamorphic fragrance.

I do not say this lightly: as a devoted admirer of forest fragrances, Haxan is an absolute masterpiece—one of the global pinnacles of green and woodland perfumery. Within this 30 ml bottle resides a true choral symphony, where fauna and flora coexist as facets of a single, living, breathing biome. The pluvial dimension is rendered with extraordinary mastery. This is not an abstract idea of rain, but its physical consequence: everything is soaked with water. The temperature is mild, the air saturated yet still, and a profound, almost sacred calm prevails. The earth responds, alive and reactive—centipedes emerge from the soil to feed, ungulates leave their arboreal shelters, floral effluvia once again spread through the air, small mammals resume their scurrying, and fungi silently release their spores. To my nose, the primary banners are chamomile, beeswax, mushrooms, goat hair, conifers, and wild herbs. Everything is perfectly integrated, without force or hierarchy: nothing stands out, everything cooperates. This is a fragrance that does not depict a detail, but an entire ecosystem, in its organic and natural complexity. It is a profound shame that this creation has been produced intermittently, and that is precisely why I keep two bottles in my collection. Some perfumes are not replaced—they are safeguarded.

A lovely composition from Prin Lomros in collaboration with Rajesh Balkrishnan. An agrestic-fougere with a twist, unlike anything I have smelled. I don't get the whole witchcraft mumbo jumbo. This perfume is rather luminous, like the brightest days spent in the summer fields. A complex composition that plays on the Fougere edge through the use of lavender and several aromatic herbs while also nodding to the countryside by employing grassy, hay-like, and earthy accords, as well as goat hair tincture. The latter is barely detectable, as opposed to other works of his. More than anything, it helps to provide a beautifully warm creaminess to the base. The mushroom is prominent, especially in the early stages, alongside spruce, galbanum, and hay. The lavender is there but kept in check by clever usage of cashmeran and beeswax to caress its potentially abrasive nature. It is well blended and feels like a polished perfume, sophisticated and easy to wear while offering an olfactory journey. "wire blier, limber lock, three geese inna flock... one flew east, one flew west, one flew over the cuckoo's nest" Haxan is the only watery, green perfume I have ever come to love. This perfume brings up a distinct scent memory for me: that of making biodynamic preparations. This scent memory is so strong that I simply cannot judge this as a “perfume” so to speak. This is the smell of stuffing chamomile into cow intestine, drying out yarrow in an old barn, boiling giant vats of bitter mugwort tea, and gathering fresh leaves off of stinging nettle, all while smelling ambient wild lavender growing in the distance. If you work in agriculture, or have ever sat in on a biodynamic farming lesson, you’ll know that these memories are comforting and nostalgic. This is a smell you simply must try in order to understand, and I cannot recommend it enough. If I’m forced to, I’d classify this as a natural, green fougere, with aquatic elements. The longevity is great, and the silliage/projection is personal. If you want to smell like you’ve wandered out of a witch’s lair, you have to try this. Thank you Raj and Prin for creating this art.

I have been excited about this perfume ever since Rajesh first told me about it and sent me a one sheet notice and description. When I received my decant sample, I was anxious to try it on. At first sniff, I almost thought I would be disappointed, it reminded me of Bat (loaded with styrax! But it didn't need to stay on my skin very long before I changed my mind about that. This composition is so complex, and has so many notes, I don't know where to start. For me, the styrax was very strong for the first hour or so, then other notes were showing up. I could smell sandalwood, a scent of pipe tobacco, occasional whiffs of lavender, and castoreum lurking way in the background. This is so far away from typical perfumes, it's very earthy and herbal (as the name would suggest). Through the day, I get whiffs of different notes, with the styrax now taking a back seat. On my skin, this is an ever-changing symphony of fragrances. Masterfully done. This is to me a true work of art. My congrats and thanks to Rajesh and Prin for this wonderful creation. True olfactory homage to the 1922 film, Haxan. Highest possible recommendation.

It’s a dewy springtime morning, a walk through fields in the countryside followed by a jaunt picking herbs into dark mossy woods, fine weather giving way to dark clouds and drizzling rain. The goat hair lends it a very natural clean animalic scent that anybody familiar with livestock should be able to identify which starts out very strong but slides into a warm background note. Grass, damp woods, mushroom, wormwood, herbs and wet greens all make up the strong base notes, which sit quite intimately against the skin when it’s dried down. Wear this whilst watching The VVitch or going for a long country walk. You can layer with a very light green floral to bring the living woods that Haxan evokes into springtime bloom if you’re feeling like adding a little softness. Prin Lomros is quite possibly the GOAT designer of niche fragrances, this is such an astonishing thing to have bottled. 🐐

Definitely the niche perfume. Like a crazy frag head, I fell in love. Very unique, specific and witchy aroma. I feel a dark mushroom wet basement with light sweet notes. I don’t know if I can use this for the public but for personal use, this is the best. I am feeling: Mushroom, Dirt, Moisture, Cypress Wet and of course some lavender and honey If you wanna find the unique frag for pleasure this one definitely for you My highest recommendations Unique - 10 Longevity -10 Sillage – 7 (a personal perfume that is a big plus for me ) Structure(layers) – changing during the time (A++) OVERALL – 10 If you like these notes – try, and I am sure you will enjoy Personal thank you Rajesh Balkrishnan and his idea and I highly appreciate him for the opportunity to try this masterpiece. So glad I was able to get a sample of Haxan, it’s definitely not suitable for a blind buy. Although hearing that it’s been discontinued has made me more interested in a full bottle. This fragrance is insanely savory and aromatic. It is incredibly strong. I got a drop of the sample on the tip of my finger and every time I put it to my nose i was picking up a different herb. In an attempt to make it more wearable, I mixed my sample with some carrier oil and I’ve been wearing it all week. It warms up beautifully on the skin. I put it in my hair and on my skin before I go to bed. It is verging on aromatherapy. This is a weird and interesting perfume designed for weird and interesting people. 10/10 for execution based on the perfumers intention, it is incredibly witchy. Actual wearability for the average person is more like 6/10.

More knowledgeable reviewers have commented on the technical so I'll just go full metaphor. True to name and inspiration, this is the quintessential folk horror perfume. It's. Beautiful. It's dark and lichen-rich and full of life. Each component noticeable (the goat hair yes!) yet swirling into a mysterious yet primally familiar whole. What's folk horror without a touch of dark humor? That's how it ends for me. Grandma's attic so spot on it's uncanny and so awful I had to laugh. How is it so realistic?? It's sadly unwearable for me at that point but I'll happily reapply and start this journey through the abyssal woods anew! Can someone please make a whole series of folk horror movie and book inspired perfumes??

Haxan open with the scents of walking through a dark forest trail. Wet soil, pine and fir trees, wild mushrooms and some lavender in the background. Once the pine and fir calms down, the cypriol and clary sage become big players for me. These mix with the wet soil to give a very witchy vibe. Fitting, as the name Häxan translates to witch, in Swedish. Once we reach the drydown, the goat hair enters. Goat hair gives off a very furry, almost comforting animalic vibe for me. The drydown is a very unique, very green fougere wrapped in musky goat hair and castoreum. It also lasts forever on my skin. Unfortunately it’s all sold out. however if you have a chance to get your hands on a bottle, I highly recommend it

GOAT. I cannot wait for the winter so I can drench myself in this. If only it were feasible to get a bigger bottle. I wore this having picked up a sample. I spent the day walking in the rain, even in the harsh weather, it stayed and enveloped me. I felt raw and earthy, but like a million pounds at the same time. On me, the initial spray leaned towards the savoury(?)- basil, sage, vetiver, soil, wood. But as it dried, the animalic notes (especially the goat hair! good for me as a cashmere jumper wearer) developed an alluring sweetness that was intensified by the smoke. Wearing this was a real boost, I live in Scotland, so it's perfect for my environment. A love.

A densely complex green herbal beauty that somehow manages to stay luminous and not muddy. It opens with the forest floor - rich pine, cedar and fir resins sitting on a bed of shrooms and vetiver which give it depth and an almost savoriness. As it dries down it resembles to some degree the best of masculine green fougeres from the 70's. Certainly as complex and well blended as Azzaro Homme and Paco Rabanne, but retaining an urbane polished restraint. Gorgeous. To me if you love and appreciate Biehl Parfumkunstwerke GS03 by Geza Schoen, you will love this. Prissana Haxan is GS03 energized by a lightning flash in the middle of the forest - it's alive and vibrant.

Wow! Häxan is a fragrance full of beauty. It's not only simply beautiful, it's somehow hauntingly beautiful. Smelling Häxan I can evoke all the fantasy novels I've read in my elder childhood, all the enchanted or even haunted woods, where the mighty warriors, crafty wizards or elven archers ever put their steps into, and where they had to face various challenges and encounters with the mystical creatures of the very deep forests. An earthy, mysterious, deep, dark, and yet inviting and irresistible smell, which will embrace you and never again release you. Thanks you Rajesh, I appreciate a lot, that I could buy one of the last bottles from you!

The second collaboration from the olfactive geniuses Prin Lomros and Rajesh Balkrishnan sir and it couldn’t get any better than this. Haxan draws inspiration from the acts of sorcery and witchcraft from back in time. It’s a very difficult perfume to review or breakdown especially for a growing nose like me. But I can clearly say that this is truly a mythical perfume that takes you through the depths of a green, mossy forest with sparks of magic and illusions happening here and there. This is a solid creation and I’m glad to have this in my collection!

I have tried both Aranyaka and Haxan. Both the perfumes are made of high quality ingredients whose fragrance lasts for a really long time. Haxan is a light fragrance that transports you to a forest with dense trees and delicate flowers. It has a right balance of woody and floral tones. 2-3 spritz are enough. Freshness of vetiver, toned down musk, perennial herbs, fragrant sandalwood and saffron = feel good fragrance. Grab a bottle today and experience an enigma that is Haxan.......

Late 2025 Batch (different cap from the photo) I agree with those who say it resembles Zoologist's Sloth. The opening is very aromatic, but in the drydown, my skin amplifies a sweet chamomile note immersed in a 'dirty' forest that feels safe and comforting at the same time. Despite these very peculiar and not typically 'perfumey' notes, it remains a true fragrance to me because it is so pleasant, and I wish it would never fade away. A quiet monster hiding in a forest

Whoever just bought that Mercari listing before I could just know you’ve probably hurt me deeper than anyone has in all the miserable years of my life on this stupid earth like idek what to do with myself right now. I’ve been hunting for this thing for ages and the one day I take a midday nap it gets posted for cheap and bought almost immediately like my whole world is over..... Update: well I have two bottles now so I’m ok now

A symphony of notes blended together to create an aromatic, herbal composition. It's sweetness is not cloying or overbearing. Constantly evolving, this brilliant fragrance puts its spell (pun intended) on those who are fortunate to be around it. Great longevity and sillage, without making you scream for attention. I thank Rajesh for giving me the opportunity to experience another one of his creations!

This continues to morph and develop over the course of a wear, but at every stage, I couldn't stop sniffing myself. I think it achieves what many other "witchy" fragrances fall short of. This is vital, full of life, herbal, and ever-so-slightly off-kilter. Really gorgeous and unique. Heartbroken that it's discontinued. If anyone is selling any size of this, please contact me.

Absolutely desperately hoping they make another batch at some point. I never got ahold of a full bottle and recently smelled my sample again and just obsessed. It's the perfect woodsy witchy fragrance. Kinda medicinal, damp, dark green. Similar to Sloth (which I also adore) but if the sloth in question was a witch's familiar in dark magical PNW/European woods.

Unholy cauldron of smokey, animalic sex... A smooth blend of everything, including the blood of the innocent (and the eye of newt). Natural and complex; earthy wizardry. Outright witchcraft. Smells like a walk around the woodland surrounding Castle Dracula. A concoction worthy of the prince of darkness. The Voivode of Wallachia's signature scent.

Complex, green, earthy, and transmuting. Starts brightly herbal and green, slowly the dampness of wet soil seeps in, followed by rich woods and animalics. This makes me think of walking through a dense herb garden after heavy rain, with a nearby compost pile, and a campfire far in the distance. It’s wonderful.

I mean this in the best way possible: if Bogue’s Mem and Noun had a baby this fragrance would be it. So much going on here...definitely a “kitchen sink” fragrance that comes together perfectly as a very complex, herbal, floral, incensey, foresty composition. Great stuff...very natural and quality ingredients.

If you love green, this is very green, uniquely green. Only fainted animalic scent in the background. It will gradually unfold layer after layer of green forest. Very niche but wearable. I wish it was more powerful, but its uniqueness can compensate for its limited sillage. Love it so much.

Truly a magical elixer. Mysterious and evolving. A Fougere witch provokes imagination and demands focus. The journey is one of chance ending with an addiction to understand more of the prescription the alchemist so eloquently brewed.

Very nice and well blended. I find myself wanting more classic fragrances these days and this fits the bill perfectly. I somewhat reminded of Amouage's Figment Man but a little more refined and not as loud. Great stuff! 8/10

Haxan is exotic and dark. It feels sensual and gothic. Reminds me of entering an ancient temple of secret ceremonies. The mystery of this fragrance is addictive. Another winner from Rajesh that I highly recommend.

A very special fragrance to me. Reminds me of fond memories inside of my distant aunt's secluded forest farm. It's dense, woodsy, and animalic. All time favorite, a 5/5.

Masterpiece. Everchanging, ever evolving and surprisingly versatile. No doubt 10/10.

When I was a kid, I spent summers volunteering at an organic farm. My favorite animals by far were the goats, so I often came home with a distinctly caprine aroma. This perfume captures that smell exactly. Barn smell, animal sweat and fur and breath. It reminds me of feeding cows their favorite treat, fermented hay. It reminds me of climbing into the hayloft while the scent of manure clung to my boots. It reminds me of walking into the woods to snap pine twigs off to sneak the goats. I was kindly gifted a sample of this by Rajesh Balkrishnan so I could get a better sense of it after originally just trying it on at a store. The initial animal scents do soften, but they remain present for the entire time it's on. I honestly can't put my finger on any of the other individual scents, it all melds together into an herbal background that, combined with the goat smell, truly captures what it's like to be on a working farm. I'm not sure I would ever wear this, but I'm very happy it exists. It takes me back to some of the happiest memories of my childhood. Edit one year later: I dug out this sample to try again now that the warm weather has returned. I've found that a *very* light spray allows the non-caprine scents to come through more clearly, or perhaps the goatiness simply mellows over time. Either way, this more balanced version is a joy to wear. It still reminds me of a day at the barn, but more the lingering sense of peace and joy at spending time amongst animals and nature, rather than the literal scent of the barnyard. The prominent notes now are fir, herbs, and hay, with just enough goat to remain unique. Like smelling the straw a goat has been sleeping in, rather than the animal itself. I've been wearing it to bed, it's that relaxing.

Häxen is the word for witch - I’m not sure which language - perhaps Swedish? , but at least in German ‘Hexen’ means witches. I was lucky to receive a sample of this from Rajesh, but I will still try to be objective in my comments. This scent covers a lot of territory, herbal, green, animalic, powdery, lightly sweet - quite fitting for the name. What should smell more muddy is blended well. Because so much is going on, it’s easy to be confused about what the perfume is trying to say to me. So, I just disregarded trying to make up my own narrative and simply enjoyed the smell. And this smells really good if you are open to this more obscure genre of olfactory art - don’t get me wrong when I say that, Häxan is quite wearable. I get the witchy vibe. There’s a lot of things that smell like they could be dried herbs in old glass bottles next to a cauldron. On my skin these are some of the things that I notice: Cypriol (thanks to the heavy dose in Aranyaka I can pick this out), castoreum, hints of jasmine, chamomile, seaweed, hyrax, and violet leaf which I feel is contributing to the powderiness. Despite there being a blend of 3 lavender oils, lavender doesn’t jump out. The initial burst after spraying is really interesting and delightful to the nose. Häxan settles nicely after 20 minutes. In all honesty the drydown is not greatly remarkable, it's slightly more masculine - but still very pleasant, a more obscure powdery herb scent. Performance is average, noting my skin eats perfumes quickly and I use one spray at a time. Silage is moderate. I’ve never used grading before but I would give 7/10. A lot of thought and creativity has gone into this perfume which is commendable and it has achieved its vision.

This is a really unique scent. The opening is really strong, herbal and grassy- almost like freshly cut grass. Quickly the other layers come through and you get these very aquatic, smokey, musky, peppery (almost sweet notes) coming through. I also believe it has a few notes reminiscent of the smell of cola but very subtly. This scent reminds me of attending a bonfire with the smokiness and musk lingering on your clothing and then going for a walk in a damp thick forest. I keep trying it and wearing it and coming back for more to see if I can discover anything new with it. I've also just noticed it has a very prominent cedar and woody notes too. This gives it this really rich and fragrant resin-like notes. This part reminds me of working in my granddad's workshop with all the wood being used for the buildings and flooring etc. It makes me very sentimental. UPDATE: so I've had it on me all day, and at the moment it's very faint and fully dry but I can still smell it after 10+ hours almost. At this stage it smells very savoury, animalic, and bread-like. I don't think at this stage I enjoy it as it is a bit funky. I still get some of the muskier and grassy notes through it. I think I need to test it more to get some more thoughts on it. This may sound very weird but at this stage it almost smells like Cheetos which is certainly something.

Zoologist Sloth but... feral and down to Earth (both figuratively and literally). A ticket to the Amazonian Rainforest! I sampled this purely because I loved Zoologist's version of this and I've come to love this as well! (Not surprising as they're both incredibly similar) The star here, which immediately hits your nose is this vegetable green note with an animalic sweat note. Both feel incredibly raw and feral. The green note here oscillates between green grass and damp cave moss, while the animalic smells funky (almost like a rotting mushroom!). Surprisingly though, the backing smells almost like a typical designer fragrance? It's this fresh spicy clean almost fougere-like (I find some lavender, basil, saffron and caraway). Moreover in the middle there's some mineral aquatic note. It's almost like you're drinking cool water from a river! There's so many other notes here that make this experience so full and transporting. This perfume is an experience everyone should try at least once. It's both an artistic journey through the jungle as well as a sexy everyday wearable. Thoroughly recommend!

I’ve started wearing Haxan whenever I need to immerse myself in a manuscript I’m writing - a folk-horror set on a remote Island. One spritz transports me to a forested idyll steeped in ancient animism and rituals, where a Forest god lies dormant deep within a grotto, ready to be woken at the Midsummer celebration. Haxan is a mossy, earthy scent that instantly evokes lush, eerie Nordic forest aesthetics. Highly recommended for anyone communing with demonic goats, or perhaps getting up to the sort of Midsummer shenanigans that include toxic boyfriends sewn into bear suits/unwelcome visitors caged in Wicker men. - But In a good way, of course...

From olfactory perspective, this is work of art. So dense and sooooooo complex. From wearability stand point, nothing for me. But I certainly appreciate how different and multidimensional it is. Bold as heck and worth trying even if you just train your nose and want to smell something truly unique.

I see a lot of witchy references, and the mushroom + goat hair sure intimidated me, but once I tried it, all of the imagined darkness was out the window—It's fresh & aromatic like a rainforest after rain!

pure medieval folklore, truly magical. its more art than wearable but i cant seem to forget about the sample i got almost 2 years ago. one of the most atmospheric scents i ever got to smell.

i have a 10ml decant. pleasant enough muddle of herbal/floral. projection and sillage heading toward non-existent. one can safely wear it almost everywhere, few will notice anything more than a muted scent. nose on wrist is where the "action" is. however, stepping into the shower, haxan bloomed. as if one were using the products of a 5star property or resort, wonderful and indescribable exotic flowers and herbs. since i use unscented soap, the fragrance stayed throughout the shower. prissana should consider using the fragrance profile for skin and hair products. simply wow. there is nothing not to like, but there is nothing special for me to like as a personal fragrance either. a moment of luxe, but not my style

Quite a stench. Chemical in its nature, it is a very very close relative, almost a twin to Shiseido Zen for men. It is a soup of ingredients, with something remotely green, cool, oakmoss like, on top of a base simular to ma nishtana, and heavily spiced with some chemical that is headache inducing. Definiyely not for people who appreciate naturals or have issue with heavily chemical compositions. A big no, glad i am quite skeptical when it comes down to reviews here and i got only a free sample. Prins style is not my style. 3 perfumes, and not single one worked

It’s so green and animalic that it’s unwearable for me unfortunately. I usually love Prin’s fragrances but this one was a miss for me. If it were a little less green maybe I would like it more, but I don’t know, that might take away that something special that others love about it.

Strong green, herbal, aromatic notes and I emphasis strong. Hard for me to pick out specific, but I would say pine and eucalyptus and maybe cedar. Can't pick up spice notes. It's interesting, but not for me.

This has a lot going on. The description and style are 100% my thing but unfortunately some of Prin’s favorite synthetics must not be my speed. All his fragrances share certain overpowering synthetic signature notes. This, Ma Nishtana, thichilla and narasimha all share this heavy synthetic note, making me immune to the subtler charms of Prin’s darker scents. Even his Zoologist scents have that steep synthetic kick. Still, I know the perfumer here is quite talented and I LOVE Salted Green Mango, Mohragot and even Wicked John. Aranyaka is wonderful as is Mriga. I keep trying all His work, hoping I get over my own physical/mental aversion to these notes so I can appreciate them like everyone else does.

I thought I liked this, I really did. I had a sample that I literally poured on myself multiple times until it was empty. It was rich, spicy and earthy on my skin, and I was all about it. Then I bought a full bottle. And every time I spray it, I hate it. It smells like damp soil and cucumbers upon first spritz (I think it's the chamomile mixed with herbs I'm disliking so much), and that element never really goes away, even hours later. My guess is that aerosolizing it changes how the notes present themselves, or my sample was old or something, but how I miss that sample. The full bottle can go back underneath the wet, rotting log from which it came.

Not for me. A bit muddled up and too much going on, essentially overpowered by a few notes. Not the best from this house.

An assault on the senses. Strictly for witches.

Haxan is a lesson in aquatic petrichor. It’s the scent of wet stone on a forest floor. A camphorous opening that greets you with the aroma of fresh dirt dug up from the base of a tree in a pine forest. If you can imagine the scent of cold, brisk air, rotting vegetation and damp woods underneath the shadowy canopy of non descript Pacific Northwest forest preserve, you’d perfectly understand what Haxan smells like. From a distance this smells like any other designer ambroxan bomb. The projection is immediately noticeable and it’s rather pleasant. When you dig deeper, closer to the skin that is, a whole slew of earthy notes appear. An ice cold aromatic lavender, mossy woods and geosmin dominate the opening. Soon a melange of spices and herb take shape. It’s as if Prin wants the wearer to embark upon a journey of discovery. Haxan demands your attention. The heart is where Haxan shines. The opening is a bit intense with how earthy and wet the aroma is however the heart shows a fiery warmth of spice laden herbs that seem to glow amongst dreary clouds and cold greys. Rosemary and Thyme are immediately noticeable while the rest of the fresh herbs slowly unfold. Prin’s signature incense accord shows itself but for a moment all the while a persistent aquatic note underlined the composition. Once again from afar this is smooth, fresh and aquatic yet up close you’re literally in a Witches spice cabinet. As Haxan dries down an oakmoss laden woods appear amongst the now subtle hint of ambroxan leftover from the beginning of our journey. This is where the classic, vintage style Prin captures so well in his own way starts to shine. This has all the ingredients of a well done fougere but modernized in a way that allows the natural materials to sing against the more synthetic notes. Truly Haxan is mixed media. Is this for everyone? I don’t think so. Is this for lovers of neo-Fougères and oakmoss junkies who’ve smelled it all? Yep. Prin knows his audience and I love that about his work.
